The moment Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez realized that Steve Harvey mistakenly crowning her Miss Universe was the best thing that could have possibly happened to her, is probably the moment she forgave him.
The beauty pageant queen spent 4 minutes believing she was the new Miss Universe, only to be humiliated on stage when Harvey realized his mistake, and the crown was literally snatched off her head and given to the rightful winner, Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach.
Now, Miss Columbia is stateside doing the media rounds. First stop, The Steve Harvey Show. After a super-awkward hug, the two sat down to discuss the gaffe in detail. She forgave him, but not without a lot of ribbing and joking around.
“You have to learn how to read cards,” Gutierrez joked when Harvey asked about her honest reaction to his mistake. “It was on the card!”
“I thought you were about to make a joke,” she explained her own reaction at the time. “You know, like Oprah: ‘You’re Miss Universe, You’re Miss Universe – Everyone is Miss Universe!’”
Still, when the apology came, Harvey was choking up. Gutierrez assured him that she forgave him fully.
The Today Show covered the interview. Natalie Morales, who has hosted the Miss Universe pageant on many occasions, predicts the two will co-host the show next year.
