Songland Season 2 Premiere Features Lady Antebellum, Familiar Faces

Songland season 2 managed to finish production before coronavirus concerns shut down TV and movie production across the country. The 10 episode series premieres on NBC Monday, April 13 at 10 pm ET/PT right after The Voice.The season kicks off with country group, Lady Antebellum, who with help of returning cast members including Ryan Tedder, Shane McAnally and Ester Dean will be looking for their next great song from four undiscovered songwriters. Through the episode, the team will help the fledgeling tunesmiths shape and produce their songs for a final performance in front of the artists, who will choose the winning song to record.   

Upcoming artists featured in season 2 include: Boyz II MenFlorida Georgia Line, Luis Fonsi, H.E.R., Martina McBride, Julia Michaels, Ben Platt, Bebe Rexha and Usher.

American Idol fans should recognize Tim Halperin. The singer/songwriter competed as a Top 24 semifinalist on Season 10 in 2011! Good luck to Tim. And Ryan Innes got a four chair turn and a spot on Team Usher when he auditioned for The Voice season 4 in 2013.

  • Tim Halperin – Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Tim competed on American Idol in 2011 as a Top 24 contestant. He performed an original “The Last Song” as his final solo in Hollywood. After his  surprising elimination in the first week of semifinals, he released the album Rise and Fall, an album he had been working on prior to Idol. He released his sophomore album, Heart Teall Your Head in 2014.  He continues to write songs and tour.
  • Steven Battey – This Savannah, Georgia native is already writing songs for country artists. His tune “One Number Away” was recorded by Luke Combs a No 1 hit. He also wrote Grammy nominated songs for Justin Bieber, Madonna and Bruno Mars. Not exactly an up and comer! He currently lives in Nashville, and hopes to continue a career as a country music songwriter.
  • Madeline Merlo – Madeline is grew up in Maple Ridge Canada, but currently lives in Nashville.  She is a CCMA Award and two-time BCCMA Award winning artist, with five Canadian Top 15 singles under her belt. Her latest single is titled, “Dear Me.” She’s had quite a bit of success in her native Canada. Check out her Youtube channel.
  • Ryan Innes – Thatcher AZ – Ryan moved to Provo, Utah to study music at Brigham Young University. There, he sang with the a cappella group Vocal Point. He recorded a self-titled EP of covers in 2010. Eventually, he landed a residency at The Montage in Park City, Utah. Next, he auditioned for The Voice season 4, nabbed a four chair turn and a spot on Team Usher. He let the competition at the The Knockouts. He released his debut album, The Inbetween in April 2018.
