So You Think You Can Dance 7 – The Final!

Could it be that  Nigel Lythgoe truly doesn’t care who wins So You Think You Can Dance 7?

The judges did not hand out one negative critique last night. Oh, except to Mandy Moore’s mediocre jazz  routine. But the kids? Lavish praise all around!

And I have to say it was well deserved for a great night of dancing, with all three finalists stepping up to the plate.

I still think Kent Boyd is going to win, but both Robert Roldan and Lauren Froderman had strong performances tonight. An upset would not shock me entirely.

I don’t care who wins either.

Videos and Recap after the JUMP…

It’s the So You Think You Dan Dance final tonight! Kent Boyd, Lauren Froderman and Robert Roldan compete to be America’s Favorite Dancer. Tomorrow night, we find out which dancer takes home the crown.

Spoilers have been few and far between this year, but we do have a little bit of info about tonight’s routine’s and tomorrow’s finale via SYTYCDism.com.

That spoiler about who is rumored to take Alex Wong’s place beside Twitch to perform the epic Nappy-Tabs hip-hop? Do. Not. Want.

Cat introduces the Top 3 finalists. Each contestant will dance 4 routines plus a solo. But, first a video recap of the season.

Kent Boyd and Lauren – Bollywood – Nakul tells Kent to bring on the faces! And he did. This contemporary-tinged routine was very frenetic, and very Kent. Nigel says, “Great fun, great costumes and Great dancing. Great way to start out. It was great fun.” Mia says, “it was the perfect tailored Bollywood piece for you. Hit hit everything perfectly if was very Kentish.” “Waht was so impressive…to have brought that much energy and precision…everything was literally perfect. Like teh feel good dance of the year. Nigel notes the hip-hop and Russian influences. Adam was impressed by Kent’s spins.. 1-888-623-7801 – VIDEO

Lauren Froderman and Twitch – Napoleon and Tabitha – Hip Hop – “Power” by Kanye West – The theme is a presidential debate. They’re actually using “presidential debate” props. Glad they ditched that pretty quickly. Eh. Kind of a corny premise, but Lauren is hitting it pretty hard. Twitch is always a joy to watch. Nigel says, “Nappytabs, you’re just so good. This is anybody’s night to win it. You danced that so strongly…you brought out strength…what you are so good at…transfixing us. Good opening start.” Mia says, “She’s filthy. You’ve hit homerun after homerun. There’s nothing you can’t do. Consistency is key for a choreographer. You haven’t had one bad performance all season. Love the balance of masc/fem.” Adam says, “You’re competing. Ironic and wonderful to say that. You make me proud to be sitting in this chair. You have blown this season out of the water.” 1-888-623-7802 – VIDEO

Robert Roldan and Mark – Tyce Diorio – Jazz – “Whip It” by Devo – This routine is cracking me up. The 80’s are back! Cat thinks they’re so handsome! Nigel says, “Really interesting, I really liked that style, really liked the fun.” Nigel stresses again, how it’s anyone’s game, not just Kent’s to win. He thinks Robert has a shot. Nigel declares that he does not mind who wins. Robert says his growth on the show has been unbelievable. Mia says, “They look like they should be on tour with Adam Ant. I love the aesthetic.” Mia says Robert was wowed in the beginning, but got more and more grounded. “You guys are fab together.” Adam thinks the piece was a testament to the All-star component, because he danced as well as Mark. Adam congratulates him for taking a note by jumping “up”. 1-888-623-7803 – VIDEO

Cat chats with each finalist before their solos.

Kent’s Solo – “The Finish Line” by Train – VIDEO

Robert Roldan and Lauren Froderman – Dee Caspery – Contemporary – “That Home” Cinematic Orchestra – A pillow is used as a prop. That was beautiful. Danced beautifully by both. Nigel compliments Dee on his choreo. (I really liked it too). “One word that sums you both up is strength. I thought that was very beautiful from the pair of you.” Mia says, “Dee you are unreal. The use of the pillow, was never ending. This one by far was the most delicious performance from you. Something’s happening to you. You’re so open and humble. It’s so gorgeous. Keep that quality, it’s so becoming. Lauren, you were perfection. I’m such a proud mama mia right now.” Adam says, “I thought it was great that dee did a number about how tired you all you. I saw how much you love and support each other. That was such an extraordinary piece about action and reaction. One word: Magnificent.” – VIDEO

Kent Boyd and Lauren Froderman – Mandy Moore – Jazz – “Hip to Be Square” by Huey Lewis and the News – Will Kent steal another kiss this week? There’s no kissing in the routine! Whoa, Kent is pulling faces like crazy! I guess the routine, sort of “Footloose-ish” calls for it. Not one of my fav Mandy routines. Where’s Kevin Bacon? eep. Nigel says, “For me, I don’t think you were challenged enough for the finale. You kept the characters well and did what was asked of you.” Mia says, “I’m probably going to go down in flames for this. Was it fun? I enjoyed the quirkiness. Did you dance it well. Did I like it? No. It’s not my cup of tea.” Whoa, 2 disses of the choreo. They are right. It was underwhelming. Adam says, “I love you guys, that was crazy…get out of here!” Adam won’t critique them! lulzy! Poor Mandy. What was she thinking? The routine was so derivative. – VIDEO

Robert’s Solo – “The District Sleeps Alone” by the Postal Service. – VIDEO

Kent Boyd and Allison – Stacey Tookey – Contemporary – “Sundrenched World” by Joshua Radin – The theme of he dance is the perfect couple breaks up. Stacey, like Dee does some pretty awesome work. That was moving. Nigel says, “I think your lines get better and better. Your emotions were real. The chink is in your upper body strength. But it didn’t show here.” Mia says, “You were so invested in that…what did you say.” He said, “Get off of me” Mia is so impressed that he can allow himself to get into the story. “I don’t know how many ways how much I love you.” Adam wonders what’s going on with Kent. Kent says he got so into it, he forgot the steps. Adam tells him very emphatically, that he just became an artist. “You are so far beyond this show….The most beautiful part of that was your stillness. It blew me away.” Kent says you get to the point that it doesn’t matter what other people say. He just wants to dance. – VIDEO

Lauren’s solo – “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige – VIDEO

Robert Roldan and Kathryn – Spencer Liff – Broadway – “Cool” West Side Story – Robert is being “investigated” by Kathryn. I gotta says, Robert is really stepping up tonight, he’s dancing well, with plenty of personality. Ha! Robert’s pants split! And he bends over to show us. Nigel says, “It’s one of my favorite pieces of music.” Nigel and and Adam quarrel about whether “Cool” was in the stage play. “You danced that very very well. You show all the different sides to your dancing technique. I’m so delighted with your journey, ” says Nigel. Mia says, “I was nervous, but when I saw it..I loved he classic feel to it, you put your own story to it, it was genius, but I wanted a little bit more simmer. Other than that, it’s a lovefest.” Adam says, “This is a very special piece to me. I gotta say Spencer, you did a great job. Rob, you did everything he asked. I bet Jerome Robbins would have hired. you.” – VIDEO

Lauren Froderman and Pasha – Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin – Cha cha – “Not Myself Tonight” by Christina Aguilera – Nigel says, “Fabulous routine, the foot action, knee the hips, it looked to me like it was damn near perfect. You’re the best contemporary girl we’ve ever had do a ballroom. You got everything right.” OMG Cat is hilarious. She says Pasha’s shirt buttons are back in her room. Tony and Meredith loved the routine. Mia says, “Who are you? I’m so happy I stood up for your butt this season. If I were still dancing I would want to dance just like you.” Lauren is freaking. “You have so many different qualities about you. As a female dancer, I would absolutely want to be that.” Lauren says, “that means so much to me, thank you.” Adam says, “If music were turned into a person, it would be you. You completely physically embody it. That was like exhibition style perfect. You dance as effortlessly as some breath.” – VIDEO

Kent Boyd and Robert Roldan – Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo – Malevos – “The Chosen/Drum Addict” by Robert Long – Basically? Two dudes do an aggressive Tango, and it’s a fight! Who will win? It’s a draw. Nigel says, “I never heard of this…it’s what the men do to practice their tango. You guys have done more dancing than all of our finalist across the season. You’ve worked so hard. You three have proven how hard you have to work to achieve that. I congratulate each and ever one of you. Please vote tonight!” Mia says, “I love the feel of this piece. There was a debonair quality about it. But you wanted to fight. There was a support factor in there too. I just love you guys. Your legwork could be tighter. Was it perfection? No. But I loved it.” Adam says, “Mia is a thousand percent right. It could have been more precise, but it’s America’s Favorite Dancer. You guys have become my favorite dancers of all seasons across. This is the youngest finale we’ve ever had. You entered as kids and you exit as seasoned artists and professionals. I can’t wait to work with you.” – VIDEO
