So You Think You Can Dance 7 – Top 7 Performance

I’m going to be at the American Idols live concert in New Hampshire tonight, so no SYTYCD live blog tonight…

I’m taping the show, and will add some videos and a quick recap later.

In the meantime, this is your post to discuss the show.

We’ve got a guest recapper today! Mandabutter…I’ll post video later.

The big news last night–Ashley is out with a rib injury. The dancers are dropping like flies. The person who takes the title this season may be the one who manages to stay healthy!

Recap after the JUMP…

Drama on the Dance floor!! ASHLEY is injured and will not compete this week. Something with her ribs forced her to be rushed to the hospital in the last rehearsal. Like the unfortunate situation involving Alex Wong, she will automatically be placed in the BOTTOM 3 in tomorrow night’s results show. If she is saved and can not dance next week she’ll have to withdraw from the competition. And Allison has recovered and is back! Yay!

Tour Announcement: Season 7 Top 11 and the All-Stars will hit over 40 cities. No mention of S.6.

First Up, All Star round. Then contestants pair up with each other.
Video Package Task: Tell us something America does not know about your partner…

Lauren Froderman and All-Star Mark, Tahitian Dance by Tiana Liufau
Mark is Night, Lauren is day. Ridiculous costumes but they make it work. Lots of wiggle and hip action. Judges: Nigel “I don’t know what to say… A whole new look to the show. Technical, I have no idea.” I like what I see, the shaking was fun. Thank you to the choreographer for bringing this style to the show, it was lovely. Mia “Fantastic. Your butt worked well on this one. It was like a duck in heat.” Adam “Lauren I can’t believe you just did that! Great energy.” – VIDEO

Adechike Torbert and All-Star Anya, Salsa by Liz Lira – Nigel says the choreographer really challenged him with a lot of content. “She is crazy” says Nigel. Mia liked the tricks, says some of the partnering could have been cleaned up with a few more hours of practice “There were little bumps, but you got through it!” Adam to Ade, what did you think when you saw the routine? “Bottom 3. Thought it was next to impossible. But that pushed me even harder to step up” says AdeChike. Adam “That was some hard ass choreo.” – VIDEO

Jose Ruiz and All-Star Courtney, Broadway by Joey Dowling (inspired by movie Chicago) – Courtney the showgirl has to ignore Jose the stagehand. Jose is sad and desperate to get her attention. All the judges point out his lack of technique. The fact that he didn’t have a strong character really put the actual steps in the forefront. Nigel says it’s his worst routine, “It was not danced well at all by you Jose.” Mia said he needs training and classes to develop strength and technique. Mia doesn’t want to be negative because of Jose’s ‘heart thing’ and sweet faces. Adam agrees he could get stronger with more time and training. A total slobber fest, “we love you, ” but with just a dash of criticism. – VIDEO

Robert Roldan and All-Star Allison, Contemporary by Travis Wall. Music: Fix You by Coldplay. – Ms. Denise, Travis and Danny’s mother, just had major surgery. It will be an emotional Mother/Son dance. Robert can relate because of his own mother’s health issues. Most of the audience is standing. Judges are standing. Cat jumps in to say we just witnessed a moment. Nigel believes the right dancers, the right music, and the right choreographer came together to create magic. Compares it to impact of Mia’s addiction piece and Tyce’s breast cancer dance. Mia is crying thinking about her mother’s death and how she would have loved to make her pain go away. It’s the best she’s seen Robert dance all season. (Umm, a little over-praise. Am I right?) He let “go and forgot about the competition.” She prays for Denise Wall. Adam says “Robert – brilliant, sweetheart. Travis if you don’t get an Emmy nomination, there is no God.” A little bit of a forced moment if you ask me. Almost 5 hours later and the only thing I remember is the walking under her feet at the end. :( – VIDEO

Billy Bell and All-Star Anya, Jive by Louis Van Amstel – Some sexiness by Billy! Nigel is impressed, “overall happy with what you brought to the dance.” He feels Billy is finally showing off his partnering skills, he is improving in this area. Mia loves his sharpness. His training lends itself to this routine, she says. Mia says Anya can change lives and loves that Billy held his own and got into the part. “Stellar.” Cat calls Anya their “sex bomb.” Billy is confused and laughs nervously, “Huh? Sex bum?” Adam says Billy was in full control. One of Adam’s favorite performances of Billy’s. – VIDEO

Kent Boyd and All-Star Neil, Broadway by Tyce Diorio – Fast baseball routine with LOTS OF TRICKS! Used Damn Yankees music. Fun routine, little cheesy. Exaggerated expressions from Kent. He shines here. Nigel says Kent is the MVP. Nigel says “Neil watch your back, we could have another All Star here.” Nigel says Kent outdanced (!!) Neil. Whoa, watch out, Nigel has a new favorite! Mia loved the routine, “Fabulous, I love strong male dancers, I love boys!” Adam says Kent nailed it and has a future in Broadway if he wants it. – VIDEO

[Contestants Pair Up with Each Other]

Billy & Lauren, Jazz by Mandy Moore – What did we learn… Lauren eats like a squirrel, Billy loves soda. A fun routine about magic shoes. Funky moves, really good energy and partnering. Nigel and Mia grooved to the music in their seats. Called the routine and the pair of them adorable. “Billy, you’re really connecting with your partners tonight.” Nigel says Lauren shouldn’t click her shoes 3 times because she isn’t going home. Mia called it fantastic. Adam says “the boys have something to be afraid of with Lauren.” – VIDEO

Jose & All-Star Dominic [7 remaining contestants picked partners last week and 7 being an odd number, Jose went last. Obviously no one was left, so his card had a mysterious Gold Star meaning he would be paired up with a Sub.]  B-Boy Breaking routine by NappyTabs with assist from S.6 Legacy and Murder Mike (SuperCrew guy from Randy Jackson’s dance show…?)  (how convenient, his own style. SHOCKER!) Dom and Jose share the stage for the first ever B-boy duet. They Battle for the Beat and a sword. Dominic displays more strength and is cleaner in his movements. The producers are forcing Jose on us. He is out of his league, I think. Nigel says he redeemed himself. Mia says all she wants from him is a little more training. Adam says “Way to compete buddy. You’re back!” – VIDEO

Kent & Adechike, Contemporary by Dee Caspary – We learn AdeChike likes to cook and Kent has a secret crush on Season 7’s Lauren. The story is Kent is in a bad relationship and AdeChike is a supportive friend. And there are two chairs involved… Nigel calls it strong and tremendous. “You have a really great chance of winning now that Alex is out of the picture.” Mia prayed this week that AdeChike would have a good week and is glad he did. Nigel says no more hate mail! “Kent, you’re unbelievable.” Adam to both dancers, “You just taught America that a super athlete can also be a super artist…You just taught me so much about dance and performance.” – VIDEO

Robert & All-Star Kathryn (in Ashley’s absence), Season’s first Disco by Doriana Sanchez – What we learn about the partners… Robert laughs really loud. When Ashley said the first week she thought she was in love, she meant with Robert. LOL. Routine wasn’t flawless but partner switching at the last minute had to be hard. Kathryn was awesome. Nigel praises Robert for not stopping. “You gave us lines and strength.” Mia says “it felt thin.” She said it didn’t fall in a masculine way. Nigel doesn’t agree. Adam says he bought what they were selling. – VIDEO
