The singer, who performed in a traditional nuns habit, beat out rocker Giacomo Voli and drew more than 62% of the audience vote. She was coached by J-Ax, an Italian rapper, whom she chose after all four coaches turned their chairs.
The prize, a recording contract with Universal Music, was won after a performance of “Flashdance…What a Feeling” helped her seal the deal against 4 other competitors during the 4 hour finale.
After her win, she recited “The Lord’s Prayer,” inviting the audience and coaches to join her.
‘‘It all started as a game,’’ Scuccia said after winning. ‘‘But then, playing the character, every evening I realized my life was changing.’’
There were those who scoffed at her performing in full habit, accusing Cristina of using a gimmick to advance in the competition. The sister insisted that her participation in the contest was about “sharing her gift.”
