Simon Cowell SEO Strategy? And Jimmy Iovine a Hands-On Kinda Fella

Today’s hilarious report from the NY Daily News suggesting that Simon Cowell might be  using SEO specialists to keep his search results positive has an interesting side story.

The notions in the report certainly came from this blog from Hans Ebert.

Readers may be familiar with Ebert as the former Hong Kong record executive who has had the inside skinny on the progress of Casey James’ label-signing with Sony Nashville.

Ebert suspects that an anti-Simon Cowell rant he posted was the reason wordpress.com disabled his blog (those nefarious SEO specialists!).  The post that supposedly took Ebert’s blog down not only featured a spectacularly cranky anti-Simon rant, but also implied that new Idol music partner, Universal Music Group. would not be sitting back, waiting for Idol winners to be handed over to them at the end of the season.

Sure, one can argue and discredit the judge’s panel, but, at the end of the day, Yes, “American Votes” and, this time around, there will be no one trying to change the goalposts for any ulterior motives. To me, it doesn’t matter if the judges are Jennifer Lopes, Steve Tyler or Randy Jackson and even a fourth judge.

I don’t care as I don’t believe someone like Jimmy Iovine will be standing in the shadows waiting for “America” to give him- and Universal or Interscope or Island Def Jam- a group of mediocre talent and who he is then contracted to record. He must be and, I am certain, will be part of the entire on-air A&R-ing process.

No, in fact, UMG cheif, Jimmy Iovine, will be intimately involved in the A&R of the Idol contestants from the very beginning. It’s been reported that Iovine will be playing a role on Idol next season as some sort of mentor it will be interesting to see how it all sorts out.

Intriguing, no?  Indeed, it will be very interesting to see what sort of role Iovine plays in the shaping of American Idol Season 10.

In the meantime, reading through his blog posts, it turns out this Hans Ebert fellow is very entertaining.  He engages in more Simon Cowell slagging as he makes clear where he stands in the Simon vs. Simon battle (How much is Fuller paying him? j/k), and he discusses Casey James’ future here.

Hm. I’m bookmarking this sucker!
