Serena Williams won her golden slam this afternoon by beating Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1 in the Olympic women’ singles tennis final. She thoroughly dominated the competition, only losing 17 games in 6 matches!
To cap off the unusual day, as Serena was standing atop the podium while the Star Spangled Banner was played, a wind gust blew the American flag off of its pole to rest in front of the Royal box.
A jubilant Serena told reporters, “It was probably flying to come hug me because the flag was so happy.”
