Scotty McCreery recently revealed he’d be recording a Keith Urban tune, for his upcoming album, Clear as Day, set to be released on October 4.
Now, Scotty reveals to Country Weekly the name of the tune!
“Walkin’ the Country” was released by Keith in 1997 when he was a member of the trio The Ranch. It reached #50 on the Billboard Country singles chart.
About the song, Scotty says that Keith, “sent it over really early in the process. He said, ‘I think this would be great for Scotty, ’ so we took a listen to it.”
There was a possibility that Keith would play on the cut, but unfortunately, it looks like that’s not going to happen. “We didn’t [record ‘Walkin’ the Country’] during the first five [songs] we cut in Nashville, ” says Scotty, ” I think if we would have, maybe Keith might have been able to play guitar on the track, but now he’s on tour, kind of like we are. It’s tough for me to stop and catch my breath on tour, so I’m sure it would be really tough for him to do that.”
“It’s a really cool song, It’s easy to relate to. That was the big song from The Ranch, so it’s really cool that he threw it over to me. Hopefully I can do it justice and hopefully Keith likes it. It was a lot of fun recording that song.”
Keith played the tune with John Fogerty once, on CMT Crossroads in February 2005. What do you think? A good fit for Scotty? It’s upbeat! I like it.
