Billboard reports that Adele has already sold 5M copies of “25”. “25” becomes just the 11th album released in the last 10 years to sell 5M and she did it in three weeks. The last album to sell 5M in one year was Adele’s “21”. She’s the JK Rowling’s of music.
Two of those 11 albums came from Idol. Daughtry’s “Daughtry” sold 5.04M (released in 2006) and Carrie Underwood’s “Some Hearts” sold 7.54M (released in 2005).
Carrie is on the chart again this week and is currently sitting at 19. She was at 6th last week, but her album was also part of the Black Friday sales that week. One Direction has fallen just outside the top 10 for now, but should continue to be a popular stocking stuffer for the season. Another popular stocking stuffer are the NOW albums and recent Idol winner Nick Fradiani has a track on the recent NOW 56 which is at 9th.
Pentatonix has the Christmas album of the season with their “That’s Christmas to Me” continuing to have strong sales and currently sitting at 4th. This exposure is also helping their non-Holiday album, “Pentatonix”, which continues steady sales at 22.
Adele, of course, tops the chart with Coldplay having the debut of the week. Also debuting this week are G-Eazy (hip-hop), Troye Sivan (Dream Pop/Youtube personality/One of Time’s Most Influential Teens for 2014) and Rick Ross (rapper). Chris Stapleton is still in the top 10 (some performances really do make a career) and so is Taylor Swift (who rarely likes leaving the top 10 and has three 5M+ sellers to prove it).
