Friday is the new Monday. With the change to a global release day, sales charts now run Friday to Thursday. This is still being shaken out, but I think we will get final HDD estimates today and perhaps BB will release numbers too. HDD has been updating estimates all week which makes me a little suspicious of their Monday/Tuesday gradual release of reports. Whatever, they provide a service and like to get a few hits for their trouble. Plus, it made it fun.
Anyway, they are predicting Tyrese will top the album/combined chart this week. This will be Tyrese’s first number one, but he’s had two albums in the top 10 previously. Tyrese is a bit of an everyman. He’s a singer, songwriter, actor, author television producer, former fashion model and MTV VJ (how old is this guy? When was the last time MTV had VJs?). He’s been nominated for a Grammy and now he has a number one album. What did you do this morning? Guys like this make me feel lazy. He is Roman Pearce in the Fast and Furious series (the recent sequel (7) just made $1.5B worldwide – seriously, this guy needs to stop making us all look bad).
Meek Mill who topped the last two charts (the 7 day followed by the 11 day) has slipped to second, but he has an outside chance of holding number 1. The Kidz are back for number 29 (they just released an album in Feb), bopping another set of pop songs into submission. They’ve left reality singers alone this time, but Maroon 5’s “Sugar” gets their attention. BB always runs down the funniest lyric changes. Apparently, spazzing, looking good and whispering in people’s ears is too much for the youth of today. They also haven’t gotten the memo on enlightenment with regards to acceptance because “Your girl just kissed a girl/I do bi chicks” becomes “Your girl just danced a twirl, I do high kicks.” Meanwhile, they have just created a lot of potential arguments by changing Meghan Trainor’s lyrics to “After every fight/Just apologize/And maybe then I’ll let you try and prove that you were right.”. Who doesn’t like having a fight, having the other person apologize and then starting the argument all over again?
R5 (Pop) is heading for 4th and Taylor Swift continues to inhabit the top 10. Owl City is back and opening around 6th and Ed Sheeran, Sam Hunt, Breaking Bad and the Magic Mike Sound track are rounding out the top 10.
