Sales News – Week Ending 02/18/16

The Grammys floated a lot of boats this week and leading the flotilla is the HMS Adele. Adele may have gotten ensnared by piano wires, but there is no stopping her trajectory. Chris Stapleton thrives on live performances rising from 8th to 2nd. Justin Bieber got caught in a hurricane of mixed reviews (he was on many best and worst lists), but increased his buyers. Taylor Swift speeds into the top 10 at 7th, The Weeknd parties to 9th, Sam Hunt motored all the way from 29th to 10th and Kendrick Lamar was almost out of the top 50 last week and raised sails with his critically acclaimed performance to get to 11th this week.

The top debut of the week is Joey and Rory. They are a Country wife and husband duo who released this album on their own label. They appeared on the CMT competition singing show “Can You Duet” back in 2008 and finished 3rd (Rory also wrote one of Blake Shelton’s number one hits). This album will top the Christian music chart and come in second on Country which is a nice present for the couple. Joey has terminal cancer and is in hospice. They have a two year old daughter.

Daughter’s Greatest Hits album is also debuting this week and is at 22nd. Carrie Underwood gets a Grammy boost to 22nd with Storyteller and also appears on the Grammy compilation album which is 6th. Tori Kelly’s performance on the Grammys was well received and she moves back into the top 50 at 35th. One Direction is 42nd. Last year’s Idol Winner Nick Fradiani is on the Now 56 album which is 43rd.
