News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch and his son and News Corp. deputy COO James Murdoch’s appearance today before the Culture Media and Sport Select Committee in Parliament came to a dramatic halt after comedian Jonnie Marbles appeared to toss a pie or shaving cream at Murdoch.
Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, reportedly came to her husband’s defense, striking out at the attacker before being knocked to the ground. According to twitter reports from people in the room, Deng threw the pie right back at him.
Deng reportedly “laughed as she attacked Marbles and was much quicker than security and police in the room.”
Murdoch “sat motionless with flecks of white on his dark suit while news pictures showed animated police officers talking to the handcuffed attacker in the corridors outside the room.”
Marbles has been arrested and taken away. Via The Hollywood Reporter.
News Corp owns FOX, which airs our favorite shows, American Idol, X Factor and Glee.
Murdoch and his son are being investigated in relation to the News of The World phone hacking scandal, which prompted the News Corp chief to close the beleaguered tabloid paper altogether.
