Here is a roundup of ratings for American Idol and The Voice for Sunday May 2 and Monday May 3. And the big news is…American Idol beat The Voice in the ratings! But there is a huge caveat. While American Idol aired the popular live Disney night in real time across all time zones, The Voice ran a pre-taped clip show. A new and live American Idol episode SHOULD have higher ratings that a clip show that’s just recap of stuff that’s already happened.
American Idol nabbed 0.83 in the key 18-49 demo on Sunday night, winning the ratings race for ABC. However, it had 6 million overall viewers less the 60 minutes (0.59/7.6 mil) and Equalizer (0.66/7.2 mil) on CBS. The numbers are up from two weeks ago when it last aired. Before the week-long Oscar break, American Idol earned a 0.76 in the demo and 5.4 million overall viewers. That week, American Idol aired against the ACM Awards on CBS. Sunday’s numbers were in line with the Paula Abdul guest judge episode that Aired on April 11.
Meanwhile, over on NBC on Monday night, The Voice 10th anniversary themed season recap show garnered a 0.78 in the key demo and 5.9 million overall viewers. Next week, The Voice kicks off three weeks of live shows to end the season. And that’s when the real ratings race between American Idol and The Voice will begin!
American Idol Sunday May 2: 0.83 key 18-49 demo, 6 million overall viewers
