Phillip Phillips Covers Sam Hunt’s ‘Body Like a Back Road’ CMT Artist of the Year (VIDEO)

Phillip Phillips CMT Artist of the Year 2017 Performance

Watch American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips perform a sly cover of Sam Hunt’s massive country hit “Body Like A Backroad” on the 2017 CMT Artists of the Year awards show. Sam was awarded the Ram Truck Song of the Year for the song, which broke chart records in 2017.

Sam couldn’t be in attendance to sing the song himself–he was performing the last show of his tour in Hawaii. It’s OK. Not a fan of the original, I rather enjoyed Phillip’s soulful interpretation of the song. Did you catch American Idol judge Luke Bryan standing for his boy after the performance? They both hail from Leesburg, Georgia. Sam Hunt is from the red clay state as well…

Fellow American Idol judge Lionel Richie was on hand to introduce Bryan, who was an Artist of the Year, along with Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean and Keith Urban. The 2017 CMT Artists of the Year special aired live on CMT from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Oct 18.

Here’s Phillip with his wife Hannah on the red carpet.
