And we’re off! Our opening video reminds us of films of the past year. Not just nominated films. I saw Daddy’s Home, Ted 2, Jurassic World, Beasts Of No Nation, Fifty Shades Of Grey, Mission Impossible, Kingsman, Trainwreck, Pitch Perfect 2, Peanuts, Minions, Concussion, and most of the major nominees.

Chris Rock’s opening monologue! “I counted at least 15 black people in that montage.” “The white people’s choice awards.” “If they nominated hosts, I wouldn’t have gotten this job.” “The last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart.” “Porno stars don’t make movies that fast.” His monologue is killer. Chris really throws Jada Pinkett Smith under the bus, suggesting she wasn’t even invited. “In Memoriam is just going to be black people who were shot by cops on the way to the movies.” I’m wondering how the world will react to his monologue. He’s coming out swinging. “We want black actors to get the same opportunities.” I loved his monologue.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY- Presented By Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron
WINNER: Spotlight
Yay! My first one! The thank yous are scrolling really fast at the bottom of the screen. Regardless of how Best Director goes Tom McCarthy walks away an Oscar Winner.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY- Presented by Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe
WINNER: The Big Short
Adam McKay wins an Oscar too, no matter what. And Ryan Gosling is presenting him with that award. That’s cool. I’m 2/2.

A really funny montage about the black performances yo might not have seen this year. Chris Rock plays “black astronaut” in The Martian. LOL.

HOLY WTF STACEY DASH IS ON THE OSCARS. WHAT? WHAT!? So bizarre.

Sarah Silverman introduces The Writing’s On The Wall from Spectre. She makes a little joke about Idris Elba. Sam Smith sings.

The Martian and The Big Short- Presented by Kerry Washington and Henry Cavill
This was my favorite film last year, by the way.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS- Presented by JK Simmons
WINNER: Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl)
I’m now 3/3. Having a great night. She was fantastic. Being in Ex Machina probably helped her win here.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN- Presented By Cate Blanchett
Cate is actually in two of the nominees in this category, interestingly.
WINNER: Mad Max Fury Road
Aww. My first miss. I loved Mad Max though, so I’m super happy. She gets played off a bit at the end while making comments about how Mad Max could come true.

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN: Tina fey and Steve Carell
LOL. “Tina has been drinking.”
WINNER: Mad Max Fury Road
Another one for me. I’m now 4/5. How are your predictions faring so far?

WINNER: Mad Max Fury Road
That’s the third win tonight for Mad Max. I’m now 5/6.

Third consecutive win. Won for Gravity and Birdman. That’s amazing. I’m also now 6/7.

BEST FILM EDITING- Presented By Priyanka Chopra and Liev Schreiber
WINNER: Mad Max Fury Road
I’m 7/8. Mad Max has now won four Oscars. Have you seen it? It’s fantastic.

Black History Month Minute with Angela Bassett. It almost looks like a Will Smith joke, but then it’s Jack Black. Well played. Well played indeed.

BEST SOUND EDITING: Presented By Chadwick Boseman and Chris Evans
WINNER: Mad Max Fury Road.
I’m now 8/9. Fifth win for Mad Max.

BEST SOUND MIXING: Presented By Chadwick Boseman and Chris Evans (still)
WINNER: Mad Max Fury Road
And that’s 9/10 for me, and sixth win for Mad Max.

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Presented By Andy Serkis
WINNER: Ex Machina
WOW! That’s a surprise! WOW. I’m betting NO ONE saw that coming. The small film wins the Oscar for Visual Effects? That’s never happened. I’m now 8/10.

SCI TECH AWARDS SEGMENT: Presented By Jason Segal and Olivia Munn
Jason an Olivia hosted.

C3PO, R2D2, and BB8 come out on stage. It’s a cool bit. They recognize John Williams.

Wow Disney lost. I’m now 8/11. I was doing so good.

Buzz and Woody have been best friends for 20 years now. God I feel old.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE- Presented By Buzz and Woody
WINNER: Inside Out
How appropriate that the first Pixar film presents to Inside Out.

Earned It from Fifty Shades Of Grey- Presented By Kevin Hart
Kevin gives props to all the black actors working in Hollywood. He gets bleeped a lot. He thought he’d be the token black guy in the front row. LOL. The Weeknd performs his hit song.

Bridge of Spies and Spotlight- Presented By Kate Winslet and Reese Witherspoon

Chris Rock interviews black people in Compton about the Oscars. They haven’t even heard of most of the movies that were nominated. They all saw Straight Outta Compton. Favorite white movie of the year? By The Sea. LOL.

WOW. He beat Stallone. Now I’m 9/13. He’s playing The BFG this summer.

Yay! I got it! That puts me at 10/14.

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE: Presented By Daisy Ridley and Dev Patel
WINNER: Amy
Another one! Amy wins! 11/15. I’m doing pretty good.

The people who tallied the votes are three small Asian children. LOL. Chris Rock says “If you’re mad about it, tweet about it on your phone… also made by these kids.” He is not holding back tonight.

Chris Rock sold $65,243 worth of Girl Scout Cookies. LOL.

Honorary Oscars- Presented By Whoopi Goldberg
25 years ago she won for Ghost. I feel really old now. Gena Rowlands, Spike Lee, and Debbie Reynolds won honorary Oscars at the Governor’s Awards.

President of the Academy- Cheryl Boone Issacs.
She gives a speech that lightly addresses the diversity issue.

In Memoriam- Presented By Louis Gossett Jr
Dave Grohl performs Blackbird by The Beatles. RIP Wes Craven, Christopher Lee, Robert Loggia, Maureen O’Hara, Omar Sharif, Dean Jones, Alan Rickman, James Horner, David Bowie, Leonard Nimoy.

I’m up to 12/17.

Til it Happens To You (from The Hunting Ground)- Presented By Vice President Joe Biden

Best Original Score- Presented By Pharrell and Quincy Jones
WINNER: The Hateful Eight
Ennio Morricone won his first Oscar! He’s already won an Honorary Oscar, technically. He gets a standing ovation. Enniio looks like he’s crying a bit. He has to have a translator.

Best Original Song- Presented By Common and John Legend
Are we not hearing all five nominees? LOL. what? We didn’t hear Manta Ray performed or Simple Song #3. They get a bit longer in this segment, but not the whole song.
WINNER: Writings On The Wall (Spectre)
Really bro? Really? This freaking song? I’m now 12/18. Sam Smith says Ian McKellan said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar before, and he says if that’s true, it’s not anymore.

Room and Brooklyn- Presented By Olivia Wilde and Sacha Baron Cohen
Sacha Baron Cohen shows up as Ali G to present Room. He’s funny. It’s a good bit.

A little commercial break shows Brie Larson hugging the rape survivors from The Hunting Ground. Good for her. She’s still crying.

Best Director- Presented By JJ Abrams
WINNER: Alejandro Innaritu (The Revenant)
His fourth Oscar, second for directing. I thought Miller would edge him out. Back to back Oscars. He talked through his entire song playoff. Wow. Important words, but, a long speech. I’m 12/19. Not having a great night predicting.

Chris Rock “Wow. It is late. It is infomercial late.”

Best Actress- Presented By Eddie Redmayne
WINNER: Brie Larson (Room)
No thank you feed for Brie Larson? That makes me 13/20

Best Actor- Presented By Julianne Moore
WINNER: Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant)
DiCaprio wins! Sixth time is the charm! Standing ovation from the crowd. Even his fellow nominees seem genuinely happy for him. He talks about climate change. It was a great speech. No attempt at a playoff. He went on longer than Innaritu, and no one was going to stop him.

Best Picture- Presented By Morgan Freeman
WINNER: Spotlight WOW. Spotlight beat The Revenant.
I loved Spotlight. I’m happy it won.
