Official Statement from the Family of Billy Bell

Via SYTYCDism:

Billy’s family would like to thank all of the fans that came out to show their support for Billy this season. It has been an amazing experience for all of us and has really meant a lot to Billy. We feel like Billy made it through all of the tough auditions and now that the fun was beginning, he has to leave the show. We were all very disappointed when we heard the news and Billy was devastated when his doctors told the show that if he continued to dance on the show before he recovered, he could possibly die. It will take several weeks for him to recover and as a result, he will be unable to return to Juilliard as of right now. We are hoping he will be able to return in the Spring. Billy is still quite ill but was released from the hospital today. He’s feeling better but still needs to rest.

As of right now, Billy is hoping to re-audition for Season 7. He really enjoyed working with the show and had a lot of fun. Although he is sad that he will not be a part of Season 6, he hopes that the producers will allow him to return for the next season. If you would like to wish Billy a speedy recovery, I’m sure he would appreciate it. You can do so by posting on the facebook fan page or his facebook.

Thank you so much for sharing your love and support with our family.
The Bell Family

Get well soon, Billy.

  1. Oh my, this sounds a lot more serious than just H1N1. I know Mono can be really bad; however, I am sure someone will be telling us what he has. I know TPTB will allow him to be in the TOP 20 next season. He has proven to be a popular contestant. May God provide for a speedy recovery for Billy.

  2. Wow. This doesn’t sound good. I hope he comes back. He is adorable and super talented.

  3. Yikes! Well hope he gets better soon and hope he can be on next season.

  4. This is just awful! I feel so bad for Billy. He is an incredibly talented guy. I hope he will have a speedy recovery and can come back next year.

  5. I haven’t been following the show. I only saw a few auditions and some videos. He looked to be quite amazing and promising.

Very nice of his family to issue that statement to inform fans. THough I know it’s none of the public’s business, I wish they would have said what the illness is. I can just imagine the sort of speculation and arm chair diagnosis by people. And sadly, people have a tendency to be mean.

Best wishes to Billy for a speedy and full recovery.

  6. Oh my, this sounds a lot more serious than just H1N1.

LOL. H1N1 is no joke. It’s the worst viral epidemic the world has seen in decades, and is very deadly. The plain old flu is still one of the world’s number one causes of death.

I’m not saying that’s what he has. I’m just saying, don’t dismiss it so quickly.

Whatever it is, I hope he gets better soon.

  7. I’m so sad!!! Billy is one of my favorites. Every time I see him dance, I get goose bumps. He dances like an angel…so pure and moving. I hope he comes back next season.

    Speedy recovery Billy!!!

  8. oh wow. i haven’t caught up with my sytycd eps yet, but this is a sad story. hope he gets better.

  9. How sad is it that you work your entire life for this one chance…then to see it slip out between your fingers and nothing you can do about it. I hope he gets better. I hope he “lives” to dance another day. He’s gotta be devastated.

  10. Whether he’s ever on the show again or not, I hope for a full recovery. Sounds like he was in a dire state.

  11. From NAPPYTABS @Twitter: RT @vicktorvondoom iS it true billy bell is out due to illness? Yep he ended up having mono!

I have absolutely no idea what it is, so I look it up and it’s pretty serious. Apparently, Billy can’t dance for like a month.

  12. Mononucleosis is very common among students. It’s caused by the Epstein-Barr virus.

Get better soon, Billy. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of him in the future.

H1N1 is no joke. It’s the worst viral epidemic the world has seen in decades, and is very deadly. The plain old flu is still one of the world’s number one causes of death.

This is very true, and both my kids are home sick with swine flu. It’s an epidemic right now, and young people are the most vulnerable to the disease because they have no prior immunity. I’ve been wondering how it would affect shows like SYTYCD.

  13. Mono can zap you for weeks. You can’t mess around with it.
I guess I’ll have to pick a new guy favorite. I’m glad he is taking care of himself. Health first!

  14. I had mono a few years ago. Was out of work for about 3-4 weeks and it took a few months afterwards to get my endurance back. I was told to avoid any type of contact sport because mono can cause an enlargement of the spleen – so rupture was a danger. With the vigorous dances they do on this show, the doctors are very smart to tell him to pull out.

It’s also rather contageous, so I hope nobody else in the top-20 gets sick. Do they room together like the Idol contestants?

  15. Good call, Grammie Karl.

Epstein-Barr is no joke either, for sure. This will take a while. I hope he comes back better than ever!
