American Idol Winner performs possible new single, “Hands on Me,” for Las Vegas audience.

Now that the summer tour with his fellow Top 5 is over, American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani can concentrate on recording his debut album for label Big Machine Records.

On Saturday, Nick performed a new song at Bit of Las Vegas, sponsored by radio station, MIX 94.1. The new tune, “Hands on Me” is a co-write with Matchbox 20 guitar player, Paul Doucette. Although the new song is still in a demo stage, Nick has said in recent interviews that he’s already recorded songs for the album. due out early next year. I wouldn’t count on that timeline just yet, though. There is no reason to believe that Idol mentor and BMR label chief, Scott Borchetta, will rush out a record before it’s ready.

Nick trying out “Hands on Me,” live at a radio event, could mean the song is a candidate for the singer’s next single. That, and his dad, Nick Sr, flat out telling a Connecticut audience (after covering Nick Jr.’s “Beautiful Life”) that “Hands on Me” is the next single. We shall see.

The funky, beat driven “Hands on Me” is more pop than rock, and would be perfectly at home in rotation at hot adult contemporary radio such as the MIX station that sponsored the concert. But the song also has potential to crossover to pop. With the American Idol Live tour behind him, we should be getting more album progress reports from Nick–and maybe more new music–throughout the fall.
