Sierra Deaton (Essy) – Don’t Hurt – Single
Sierra Deaton has released her first solo project under the name Essy. As one half of the musical and romantic duo, Alex & Sierra, she won the third season of X Factor USA in 2013. The duo broke up last September due mostly to her split from Alex Kinsey the year prior. “For a long time there was hope we could fix things and we’d get back together,” Sierra told Billboard magazine. “But then it was done.”
“I had only done music with someone else, so it took me a while to not be so afraid of making music on my own,” Sierra said about her first single “Don’t Hurt.” “But I think it’s what I was always meant to be doing.”
As far as the song’s message, Sierra said: “I hope people can take away the idea that sometimes it is best for a relationship to be over. If someone isn’t meant to be your best friend anymore that’s fine.”

David Hernandez – Shield (Coat of Armour) – Single
American Idol season 7 alum David Hernandez has released a new single “Shield (Coat of Armor).” The singer told Billboard magazine that the tune was inspired by a USO tour he took in the Middle East, where he was humbled to meet servicemen and women.
“I thought it was so incredible to shake hands with the people that make everything possible for us,” David said. “It got me thinking about all of the ways we as a human race should stand by each other and raise one another up.”
He added, “We all go through tough times and need someone to be our ‘shield’ to protect us or a shoulder to lean on, no matter what kind of dark place we might be in.”
