New American Idol 10 Songwriting Contest

The American Idol coronation song contest is back…but with a twist. In Season 6 and 7, aspiring songwriters could submit their songs to be voted on by Idol fans. That’s how “Here Is My Now” and “Time Of My Life” became the Idol coronation songs, respectively.

This year,   the public is invited to help singer/songwriter, Taio Cruz write a song to be sung by Taio on the finale. Yahoo’s Reality Rocks reports exclusively:

Starting this Wednesday night (March 30) through May 13, aspiring “Idol” songsmiths can go to www.americanidol.com to hear the opening bit of an unfinished Taio tune, and then add lyrics to it to help complete each verse. There will be four submission phases, after which fans will vote among the top three finalists. Then the winning version of the song will be the one that Taio performs on the “Idol” finale!

“Songwriting can be an individual journey or a cooperative effort, and I’ve done it both ways, ” says Taio. “But creating a new song, with the input of music fans…now that takes the experience to a completely new place, and I’m ready to get it started.”

OK, for a minute I thought the winning song would be the boot song. But it’s just a tune Taio will sing on the finale. Not sure what the point of that is.

Will you be submitting your lyrics to the Idol songwriting contest?
