NBC Renews The Sing-Off For a Fifth Season

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that NBC has renewed a cappella singing competition,  The Sing-Off, for a fifth season.

The a cappella competition show from Sony Pictures Television and Mark Burnett’s One Three Media will return as a holiday event. It’s unclear how many episodes or what the airdate pattern will be. Casting for season five is currently under way.

It’s unclear which, if any, of season four’s judges and hosts will be back. Season four featured the returns of Nick Lachey, Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds with Jewel replacing Sara Bareilles.

Oh. NBC BETTAH bring back singer/songwriter, Ben Folds. He’s one of the best singing competition judges out there. Where would the a cappella singing show be without his humorous and erudite commentary?

The Sing-Off was cancelled after a low rated fall edition in 2011. Ironically, that 3rd season produced the show’s most successful winners to date–the wildly popular YouTube sensations, Pentatonix. The quintet’s latest record, PTX: Vol. III bowed this week on the Billboard 200 at at No. 5 with 46,000 in sales.

The combination of Pentatonix’s initial success and the box office success of the college a cappella competition movie, Pitch Perfect, likely prompted NBC to bring back The Sing-Off for another season, in 2013.

I’m really happy to see that it’s coming back for yet another season! The show is the perfect holiday time mini-series.

Are you looking forward to the return of The Sing-Off?
