Ha Ha, Brooke White says, “I’m going to have to say Jason Castro now.”, Carly Smithson says Annie Lennox, Chikezie says John Legend, Ramiele Malubay says Mariah Carey, Kristy Lee Cook says Jason Aldean and Michael Johns says Annie Lennox.

Game of Thrones Episode 2: The Lost Lords Review

Funniest Line: Question to David Archuleta, “Did you read the article in Newsweek about how Mormons win all the reality shows?” Archie deadpans, “Not this one.”

The contestants understand the dynamic between the voting public and Simon Cowell really well. They know that sharp criticism from Simon can get voters running to the phones to save them.

The contestants insist that the vocal coaches and producers don’t suggest songs. That’s not what I heard…

Michael Johns is obviously the class clown.

Jason Castro says assuming he smokes pot is “an ignorant assumption.” He says he’s laid back, because most of the time, he’s just woken up.

Larry gives David Cook his suspenders. David pretends to be thrilled.

  1. I must have replayed that last one half a dozen times and I still can’t make out what Johns is saying about Carly at one point. When LK asks them if they read online reviews about their performances and everyone says no, but Cook says he’s broken down a few times and has. Johns is in the background saying something and all I made out was “Carly” and several of the contestants were looking her way.

  2. Okay, I officially love these guys. Even KLC! Who’da thunk it? Chikeze is adorable, Michael Johns is funny as hell.
David Archuleta is sweet, precious and his ‘dry wit’ has me lol. I heart Carly, I am sorry. She seems so sweet.

  3. Carly must be an internet and AI forum junky. That’s whta MJ was referring to

  4. Larry King is a TV icon (for forever lol) and I have rarely seen him give away his suspenders. I did see him give Ryan a funky pair of shoes once. they were quite blinged out.

  5. those r prehistoric suspenders DC has got there…i’m gunna go with Mesozoic era.

  6. Wow. Jason gets a lot of plus points in my book for choosing Brooke as his duet partner when the other finalists were dropping big names.

  7. Jason Castro says assuming he smokes pot is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“an ignorant assumption.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ He says heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s laid back, because most of the time, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just woken up.

Amen! I’m glad he stepped out and said that. LOL, do we detect a sense of impatience with the (sheesh, not this one again) allegation? Maybe people will stop that silly speculation now. I’m sure they all needed more sleep with the whacky schedule they were on.

  8. You know, I also got the impression that David C. was pleased about getting the suspenders. It just seems that way after seeing the show a second time.

A lot of people want Jason and Brooke to do a duet on the tour. Maybe that was a hint from Jason. I hope so!

I love Jason even more after seeing the show. I respect David Cook as a leader as well as a very talented singer. The interviews went really well tonight. Michael Johns certainly seems well-liked by everyone!

  9. i used to like michael johns before this interview. sadly, he comes off as a complete asshat

  10. I want to know the back story on the “Jason picking the key” snark from David Cook. Whatever it is, they all crack up about it… Cook’s comment about “anyone but Jason” on the duet thing must be related.

I do love them all – Johns was a bit over the top with the silliness, but he must have been feeling a tad left out being in Vegas. Not that that wasn’t a great opportunity for him, but you guys know the summer camp analogy — he was gone from the group, then back with everyone, then gone again — I think he was missing them and tried a little to hard to make an impact.

Larry’s pretty creaky — time to retire!

  11. I cracked up when Jason said that he’s so laid back because most of the time, he’s just woken up! I wish I could sleep like that!

I thought all of the contestants came off very well. It was a little awkward with Michael Johns in Las Vegas – it made his interaction a little strained. You could tell they all get along well.

I definitely think that DC’s comment about Jason not picking the key on Friday night and his saying he doesn’t want to duet with Jason was an inside joke. It all seemed very good natured.

I also loved that Jason picked Brooke as the person he would like to duet with. I’m guessing that was a tour spoiler!

  12. Ok, I am at work and cannot watch these vid’s but I shall be doing so tonight! I imagine with Jason’s voice they’ve either been forced into a key that works for him on an occassion or Jason’s ended up in his own key during the group numbers. The guys honestly never really sounded great together for me…. their voices don’t blend well.

Is it sad that I am little more interested now that it’s over and the kids are all together again? Kicking myself in the ass for not getting tickets for the Manchester show…. screw the family reunion!!

On a side note, there’s a clip of Amanda Overmeyer on my local radio station that they keep playing as an intro to one of the DJ’s where she says “Imagine people care (want to hear) what I have to say”…. I can’t remember the exact words.

  13. I watched last night and was more impressed with DA than I thought I would be. Loved Jason! I’m sure I will get raked over the coals for saying this but DC is a little too smooth in his interviews for me. I know he has occassionally been described as coming across as smug and he kind of did a little for me last night. OK, start shooting.

  14. Wasn’t it during the Neil Diamond week after Jason had discovered his fabulous lower register that he started the group song and no one could cope after that? They all sounded like they were singing from their toes they were sooo low! I’m sure they were remembering that.

  15. Regardless of when CNN said this was being shot, it looks like it was probably shot on Friday, at the same time that they shot the Friday episode. So, my guess is that David C. was probably running on very little sleep, which can lead to talking too much. Plus, I think that the whole group likes each other and has a lot of inside jokes. So, try not to be too hard on Cookie or any of the others.

  16. As usual, I am in complete agreement with Jersey. I think it’s pretty obvious that there’s some kind of inside joke going on with regard to Cookie’s comment about Jason. And, whatever it is, apparently Jason finds it hilarious.

I almost did a fangirl squeal when Jason said he’d want to duet with Brooke. First of all, it was a really cool thing to say, and Brooke looked really flattered. Plus, a few of us have this at the top of our Tour Wish List, so I’m hoping that was a spoiler.

I know some people feel differently, but the more I see Michael, the more I like him. I find him quite charming and funny. When he said that if he had a body like David Hernandez, he would strip too – I cracked up, out loud.

Just like on the show, I find KLC & Rami completely pointless and useless, although they both seem nice enough. And, Syesha shouldn’t offer to answer a question when her answer is going to roam all over the place, make no sense and use the phrase “it depends” six times.

  17. I haven’t watched all of the show yet but did enjoy the bits I did see. Too bad Michael wasn’t able to be there because it must be hard to fit into the conversation smoothly when you’re on a video feed. Loved the “sexy dance”, lol. I thought for sure he’d be able to say where he was but obviously wasn’t allowed. Loved the video of him from the concert, Skylight.

I liked David Cook and think he does well in interviews. I don’t think he’s perfect and have heard a few comments that shows he’s human. I find the hoopla over the KC date funny and almost makes me hope that they become an item. :wink1_tb:

  18. Carly says the oddest things sometimes. She claimed that they didn’t find out about the mentors until they were announced on screen. That they found out when everybody else did. First of all, she should try reading at MJs because we knew about the mentors LONG before they were announced by Seacrest. Second, contestants/producers/etc have all said that they give the kids a CD of songs at least a week before the theme week so that they can start listening to the songs and picking them.

She also claimed earlier in the year that there were no song lists for the semis when Nigel and others had said there were.

She must live in her own bizarro cocoon.

Here are the rush transcripts for the two shows:

    Larry King Friday

    Larry King Monday

  19. The gift of the suspenders cracked me up. Were they even attached to his pants before he took them off?

I must have replayed that last one half a dozen times and I still canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make out what Johns is saying about Carly at one point. When LK asks them if they read online reviews about their performances and everyone says no, but Cook says heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s broken down a few times and has. Johns is in the background saying something and all I made out was à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Carlyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and several of the contestants were looking her way.

I thought my boyfriend caught Michael saying, “Carly’s silent…” regarding reading the Internet sites… meaning she probably does read them.

I think DC’s “smoothness” or “talking too much” was probably his way of trying to corral the group when things got too out of hand, everyone was talking simultaneously, etc. It was sort of cute to me. It was like he was being the dad of the group (since apparently Michael wouldn’t be, Mr. “57 going on 12”!).

  21. Also, what was up with two of the top 10 wanting to duet with Annie Lennox? That seemed a little strange… but who knows…

  22. Annie Lennox? Didn’t they meet her at the AI Gives Back show? Maybe she was especially gracious or something with the kids — I was majorly impressed with her myself. Her song was all sorts of awesome.

  23. Annie Lennox has quite the reputation as a great singer (she trained in opera, I believe), so I can see Carly and Johns wanting to sing with her. They are singers more than musicians, so… The fact that Ramiele wanted to sing with Mariah just highlighted her problem on the show- no real musical identity!

I also found it odd that Syesha said people keep asking her if she wants to do Broadway and she says “no, I want to be normal.” Wtf? Why did it seem like she was always auditioning for Broadway casting directors then? Fever anyone?

  24. Interesting when Archie explained his vocal chord paralysis and how it had taken away much of his upper register.
Amazing that he had built the fanbase he has solely on the strength and tone of his voice.
Of course, if his handler(s) had waited a couple of years until his voice was fully restored, he would have won this competition “By A Country Mile,’ which could have been the title of his coronation song.

  25. I just re-watched Neil Diamond group performance and if David Cook was referring to this when he said “no duet with Castro” or “Castro, don’t start the key”, I absolutely get this inside joke. It’s Jason who started the key of the group song and everybody was singing like a sinking cow. I laughed all the way when watching the group performance and thinking DC’s remarks on Jason.

Afterall, I think the guys are apparently much funnier / watch-worthy than the girls. MJ is always making jokes, Jason is sweet and dreamy, DC (oh, DC, you broke my heart) always gives interesting remarks, DA is cute and cuddly and he sure has dry wit (if we filtered out the “Awesome, wonderful, gosh, can’t believe it”, the few words remaining are always funny), even Chikizie is interesting to watch.

  26. Thank you, mj! Don’t know what I’d do without you!

Amanda said that at the Top 12 party interviews. It was cute.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Who woulda thought all these people would wanna hear what I got to say?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYZTcqncIxM
    Amandaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s exit
She says it about 2 min 54 sec into this video.

Watching this reminded me how many times Amanda rescued me from the absolute torture of watching the other women this season. She was definitely entertaining.

  27. I did like that David A. suggested that he would have liked to have dueted with Eva Cassidy. She was a brilliant vocalist who did some truly wonderful readings of songs. Sting publicly praised her version of Fields of Gold, and I’d say that his lute version of it was based on her version. Kat McPhee’s Over the Rainbow and David A’s Imagine are strongly related to her versions of those songs.

  28. Well, Pinoy_penoy2, obviously you’re talking to me. It’s difficult for me to respond, since I’m fairly certain that mj is probably going to delete your post. So, just 2 things:

I take offense to the implication that my disinterest in Kristy Lee and Rami is somehow related to an alleged prejudice or lack of tolerance on my part. What am I biased against exactly? Tall girls, short girls? Blond girls? Brunettes? These are two vastly different people so surely it can’t just be one prejudice that I have against both of them, can it?

And secondly – let me go ahead and clarify my statement. I have no interest in hearing either of those girls sing ever again because to me – they’re pretty weak. And, certainly not talented enough to be in the AI top ten. I don’t find their performances engaging at all. And, when they’re talking on tv, I find them pretty much dullsville. That’s all there is to it – nothing sinister going on here.

  29. I almost did a fangirl squeal when Jason said heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d want to duet with Brooke. First of all, it was a really cool thing to say, and Brooke looked really flattered. Plus, a few of us have this at the top of our Tour Wish List, so Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hoping that was a spoiler.

Yes I’ve been wishing for that since they both made it into the top 10. I really hope it materializes! And Brooke’s flattered “oh my gosh” after Jason said her name is just one of the reasons I totally love this girl, genuine all the way.

  30. Spence, I agree with you on RM and KLK. You are a smart person.

The interview with Larry King was really strange in that LK had no clue about these people. He never watched Idol or even looked a a video highlights dvd. He just read off of his sheet.

DC was very sweet rescuing people who were floundering on questions. I would love to see two hours of interviews with an interviewer who knew what questions to ask!

  31. Amanda said that at the Top 12 party interviews. It was cute.

Maybe you’ve already seen this, sciencefan, but here’s Amanda singing an original song at the Whisky A GoGo… :)

    Play On

  32. I just re-watched Neil Diamond group performance and if David Cook was referring to this when he said à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“no duet with Castroà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ or à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Castro, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t start the keyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , I absolutely get this inside joke. I laughed all the way when watching the group performance and thinking DCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s remarks on Jason.

I just watched it again, too. If Jason had started a capella, that may have been the case but the band came in first so it was the band that set the key. But you are right that the key was WAAAY too low.

  33. With Jason having the first solo, it was imperative that the band start in a key he was comfortable in. And yeah, it was super-low.

  34. purplesmile – Oh REAL-ly! Thanks!

I really LIKE Amanda! She’s fun.

Great song, but I think I need subtitles!

  35. Papa Johns is a Star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A Sexy , funny amazing Talent. ::smirk2_ee:

  36. My observations:

The kids all seem to like each, and they get along well.

They get a share of the iTunes revenue. (Yay!)

Jason, who so jealously has protected his dreds, when asked if he would consider selling them for charity, says, “Sure”, “Maybe,” “Depends on the charity,” or something to that effect, and then … “I’m not married to them.” What a doll. I love him.

ETA: I also would LOVE to hear a Jason and Brooke duet. I think their voices might blend very well together. Since the tour is coming nowhere near me this year (or for five other of the past six years) I’ll have to hope I can catch it on YouTube, or here, or somewhere else.

  37. I forgive Micheal for talking about him being the shock elimination on fridays episode. He was really funny in this one. I also love the way he reacted to the tired “girls had it harder” routine.

  38. i think he said that carly seemed very silent, when asked about the checking the boards. carly looked pissed after too

  39. “Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Jason who started the key of the group song and everybody was singing like a sinking cow. I laughed all the way when watching the group performance”

Thanks DDawn I needed a laugh this morning – sinking cow

” did like that David A. suggested that he would have liked to have dueted with Eva Cassidy. She was a brilliant vocalist who did some truly wonderful ”

Now I am laughing at myself, I thought he said he wanted to sing with David Cassidy last night and I thought – really? that is weird! – ok – now thats a better choice

  40. I noticed something funny about the suspenders contest bit and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been cracking me up all day. Go to part 7 to see it, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s close to the beginning, right before the JC weed exchange. LK mentions the suspender contest and explains the rules. When the shot goes back to the group, Carly and Brooke are whispering like schoolgirls. Carly points down to her leg, and then Brooke kind of shakes her head and motions with her hands up and down her shoulders-like where one would wear suspenders.

In Ireland, the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“suspendersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ means what we in the US call garter belts-the ones that go around your waist and actually hold up stockings. So Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m thinking that for a panicked few seconds Carly thought that A) LK wears ladies undergarments and B) The idols were all going to have to put their signatures on them!

This is my first time posting here but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been lurking for weeks. Thanks MJ and everyone, for helping me remain sane during my dark (but fun) journey into obsessive fandom!

*giggles maniacally* That’s hysterical–and true. But there are also men’s garters for socks–they go around the knee and keep the men’s socks from falling down or getting wrinkled, and I believe they are also called suspenders in Ireland (and England). They are NOT sexy. Nor are they something you’d want to sign.

  42. I noticed something that made me think there might be tension between Syesha and KLC. Maybe it’s nothing. But, when LK read the email from Sarasota, Syesha said she would take that one since she’s from Sarasota. I couldn’t hear what was said, but KLC, who was right behind Syesha, put her hands up and sat back like she was trying to distance herself from Syesha. I don’t know if Syesha said something under her breath or if KLC whispered something, but KLC acted like, “Hey, go ahead”. I wonder how many will actually stay friends or just put up with each other until the end of the tour….

  43. When they were talking about checking online MJ says “Ive noticed you’re very silent Carly..”

Carly occasionally chats with us on her fansite.. Shes amazing!

  44. Cool. If you’re out there Carly I love ya. You have a great voice and hope you do great things.
As far as Larry King is concerned , is there anyone on this planet who is more clueless than he is ? Geesh , do your homework lizardboy.

  45. Oh yeah, and on Friday night there was that reaction when KLC said she was going to do the Lee Greenwood song on tour.

  46. Hmm, I’ve found a couple errors in the LKL transcript.

LK asks where they are all from. Carly I believe said Dublin, Ireland, but they show her as saying “earth”. LOLOL, how could they make such a goof?

And they show David A replying that he’d like to sing with David Cassidy when he said Eve Cassidy.

  47. GIRL POWER…

I loved the girls this season especially the SINGLE girls in the group. They represent their age group really really well – single, successful, sexy, fun and loaded with talents.

I think Syesha’s vocal range is amazing and her voice is real rich in texture that she can do any song with equal poise and power. And she has the ability to bring forth colorful personalities and create certain moods in her performances which is a credit too to her acting skills. YESSS to Syesha!

Kristy would make a great country singer and I know a lot of people will like her and her songs because she excels in one of two true American musical forms – country music – the other one being rock n roll. She also has that all American girl look which is a tremendous plus. YEEHAW to Kristy Lee!

Ramiele would make a great rhythm and blues singer and she’s got the spunk and the sass to go with it. What this girl lacks in vertical height, she sure makes up for it in energy and just pure pluckiness in taking on seasoned performers and standing tall (in her heels) as the rest of them. WOOHOO Ramiele!

Amanda, despite being called a one trick pony will make her own mark in an industry which is not as limited as some of us think. She clearly excels in a musical form that is quite different from the popular genres a lot of people have become too accustomed to. She is a rocker through and through and the fact that she will never compromise her rocker image is something that has earned a lot of people’s respect. GOOO Amanda!

And now the married ones who seem to have time and experience behind them and, because of which, have earned a slight advantage over their single counterparts. I’m talking about previous record deals and actual cd releases. That is not to say of course, they are as less talented than the less-experienced girls.

Carly, the resident belter, has an intense look that is well matched by her big brilliant vocals and a strong passion to see her dreams come true no matter what. It must be the fighting Irish in her or that she just believes persistence and hard work always pay off in the end. And the future seems to be looking real bright for this bright-eyed Irish girl.

Finally, Brooke who is just an old sweet soul that you cannot help but like and has a voice, though limited in range, that is unique and appeals to a set of senses other than your hearing. Brooke’s appeal lies in the fact that she is a great story teller in her songs and she tells each song’s story with enough amount of honesty. That, I think, is in itself a gift.

    GIRL POWER……

  48. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m talking about previous record deals and actual cd releases

KLC also had a record deal and a cd out before AI.

  49. KLC also had a record deal and a cd out before AI.

Good for her! And Pinoy Penoy …. thanks!
