Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Oct 14-20

There are 5 milestones this week, all from famous non-winners.

Let’s start with Season 5 fourth place finisher, Chris Daughtry. He dusted himself off and recruited a band going on to great success. The band, named after its lead singer, is getting set to release it’s fourth studio in November. The debut single from that album achieved two milestones this week. “Waiting for Superman” went top 20 on HAC and debuted in the top 50 on AC.

Season-mate Mandisa who finished in 9th may not be famous with the general public, but she is definitely famous within the CAC genre where she has become a staple. She frequently sends songs to the top of that chart and her debut single from her fourth studio album continues the success. “Overcomer” is spending its fifth week topping the CAC chart. It has lost its bullet, but its several bullets away from the next gaining single.

Jennifer Hudson, the contestant who has Simon doing more history re-writing than any either (yes, like Simon would have saved her…excuse me, my eyes just rolled under the table), has a new single out. She’s been working with a host of big names (RedOne, Timbaland and Pharrell Williams) and “I Can’t Describe” debuted in the top 40 (nearly top 30) on UAC.

Finally, we have Olly Murs, runner-up on the sixth season of UK X-Factor. He’s not as well known in the US, but he has had a very successful career in the UK. His “Dance with Me Tonight” goes top 50 on HAC.
