On the fifth anniversary of my first post (to the day) of the Monday Morning Mediabase thread (it actually started a week earlier, but MJ posted that one for me), there is a veritable mother load of achievements today. The Monday Morning Mediabase thread got it’s start as a regular post each Monday morning in the headlines thread measuring the state of radio play for Idols at the beginning of the week. Back then, we had full access to the charts, so even one spin could get you mentioned. It was calved off onto it’s own thread because some people wanted to discuss numbers/airplay and others felt it cluttered up headlines. There was also a weekly sales thread introduced at the same time. We now have almost daily numbers threads.
But on to achievements. Usually, I start at the top and make my way down, but there are competing claims for the top with two Idols achieving a top 1. Idol domination! We’ll go alphabetical. But, first, I’d like to mention that this week, we have Idols from 9 out of the 11 seasons charting. Only season 7 and season 11 are absent.
Carrie Underwood from Season 4 has yet another number 1 Country song. Her debut single, “Good Girl”, from “Blown Away” is topping her home chart. But, that’s not all – she also achieved top 20 on HAC with that song. The song is top 40 in 3 formats.
Speaking of dominating a lot of formats, Kelly Clarkson is appearing on 3 charts herself with 3 different songs. Her second single and title track, “Stronger” has topped the AC chart. Her third single, “Dark Side” leaped onto the HAC chart arriving in the top 40.
Carly Rae Jepsen from Canadian Idol went top 5 on Pop and seems poised to capture the top of the chart next week with a massive bullet (and the number 1 song dropping – Carly Rae is at number 2). “Call Me Maybe” also achieved top 10 on HAC and top 30 on AC this week.
Jordin Sparks, from season 6 is appearing in a movie with Whitney Houston this summer. A track from that movie called “Celebrate” and featuring the both of them went top 30 on UAC and top 40 on AC this week.
Kris Allen from Season 8 rounds out our list of Idols with multiple achievements. His debut single, “The Vision of Love”, from his second album achieved top 30 on HAC and top 40 on AC.
Also with achievements on HAC this week are are Season 10’s Haley achieving top 30 with her debut single “Free” and Season 8’s Adam Lambert achieving top 40 with his second single (“Never Close our Eyes”) from his second album.
Idol mints a new Pop star with Season 10’s Stefano getting his first charting single in that format. “I’m on a Roll” went top 50. Season 9’s Michael Lynche makes his first appearance on our charts with a debut in the top 40 of UAC with his “Who’s Gonna Love You”. Scotty McCreery returns to the top 50 with his second/third single from his debut album.
From UK X-Factor, One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” goes top 10 in HAC and their “One Thing” goes top 30 on Pop. Cheryl Lloyd goes top 40 on Pop with “Want U Back”.
