Four milestones this week and the sales numbers should start leaking out.
Tori Kelly, auditioner for American Idol, continues to make her mark on Pop radio. Her second single, “Should’ve Been Us” from her second album went top 20 on Pop this week. Her song is charting in three formats (Pop, HAC and Rhythmic).
Also on Pop is Little Mix. Little Mix was another one of those “formed bands” from X-Factor, this time in the UK and this time actually winning (to become the first group to win in that franchise). They have done well in the UK and with social media, but haven’t really set up a beach-head in the US. Will “Black Magic” from their upcoming “Get Weird” album do that? Well, it debuted in the top 50 on Pop this week, so that’s a start.
Fifth Harmony is a group formed for the US version of X-Factor. Their latest single went top 20 on Rhythmic this week and returned to the top 5 on Pop. “Worth It” is their first really big hit.
Finally, we have Avery Wilson from the Voice. He was on Season 3 on Cee Lo Green and was pushed out of the competition during the Knock-out rounds. Clive Davis (the crypt-keeper who scared many a small adults (and to be honest, adults too) in the Idol viewing audience for years) signed him to an RCA contract. His “If I Have To” (which he performed on Season 8 of the Voice) went top 40 on UAC.
