Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Jan 4-10

Fantasia released a new single from a TBA album and it leaped onto the charts. “No Time” will be going for adds this week, but it’s already made its debut in the top 50 on UAC. Fantasia won the third season of Idol and with her addition to the charts this week, that means that all four of the first four winners of idol (Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia and Carrie) are all on the chart. Considering that they all won the show more than ten years ago, those are pretty long careers in the industry let alone for winners of television singing show.

The original winner of Idol, Kelly Clarkson, also racks up another milestone as her latest single “Piece by Piece” debuts on the AC chart. This is her third single from her seventh album. From the Voice, Avery Wilson’s “If I Have To” returns to a previous milestone of top 30

On CAC, we get double Idol milestones as Lauren Daigle (auditioneer) and Danny Gokey (third place in Season 8) both achieve top 30. For Lauren, it is “Trust In You” while Danny has success with “Tell Your Heart to Beat”.

Finally, we have Camila Cabello from the US franchise of X-Factor. She was put into a group (Fifth Harmony) which has had some successes, but this duet with the Vine Sensation Shawn Mendes is flying up the chart. His previous single “Stitches” slowly ground it’s way up the chart, but “I Know What You Did Last Summer” wasted no time in getting to top 15.

Billboard makes it official. Adele is number one again with 194K/164K (-47%). She becomes the first female artist to have a debut album spend its first 7 weeks at the top of the chart since 1987 (Whitney Houston did it with her second album). Bieber’s “Purpose” continues at 2 with 124K /54K (-43%/-47%). X-Factor’s One Direction’s “Made in the A.M.” slips to 6th with 44K in equivalent sales (-41%)
