Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Jan 2-8

The charts are really hopping this week. With the Christmas songs banished and new songs getting a chance, we’ve got a lot of songs debuting. Season 1, Season 5 and Season 10 are all making waves.

First up is Kelly Clarkson. Fresh off of SNL, she’s flexing her radio muscle. Her “Mr. Know It All” goes top 10 on AC while her new song debuts on two charts. “Stronger” is her 2nd single off of her 5th album and it is off to a strong start. It won’t go for adds until the 16th/17th, but it has already achieved top 40 on HAC and top 50 on Pop. Speaking of HAC, Kelly is still topping the HAC chart with nobody threatening to topple her for a while. She’s got two songs on each of the Pop, HAC and AC charts.

Next up is Mandisa. She’s also working her second single and it has recovered nicely from the Christmas freeze. Last week, “Waiting for Tomorrow” hit top 10 on CAC and this week, it moved into the top 5. The song also appeared in the top 50 on AC. Usually, we don’t even see top 50 on that chart, but maybe this is a sign that she might have some cross-over success.

“Stronger” was not the only song to debut on the HAC chart. Season 10s fourth place finisher, James Durbin, also racked up a debut on that chart. He’s working two singles on different formats (mainstream vs rock) and his mainstream song “Love Me Bad” achieved top 50 on HAC. That means he has two songs in the top 50 on two different formats which isn’t bad for an Idol on an indie (especially given how hard rock has turned out to be for Idols).

Ruben’s new single goes for adds this week. He’s pretty reliable on the UAC charts.
