Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Feb 29-March 6

X-Factor has 4 milestones this week – two from each franchise. ZAYN continues to disprove the naysayers (including me) by firmly establishing a post One Direction career (seriously, how many people thought when Simon formed One D that not only would the group be extremely successful, so too would one of the individuals after the break up?). He is taking no prisoners on his rise up the charts with “Pillowtalk” going top 10 on Pop and top 40 on HAC.

But Simon wasn’t finished creating bands and created Fifth Harmony on his flop-polishes US franchise. No worries, he’s got the touch and is also wise to pick hard working kids for the slots. Fifth Harmony struggled for a few years, but their “Work from Home” is not slacking. The song is top 30 on Pop (almost top 20) and debuted in the top 40 on Rhythmic. Work it.

Idol racks up 3 milestones this week. Kelly Clarkson wowed the nation with her “Piece by Piece” performance on Idol and got people chatting. That has revived the song which saw her topping the digital chart and getting it back onto radio. On AC, the song halved its ordinal going from 42nd to a new high of 21st. The song also returned to the top 40 on HAC.

Daughtry was also making in-roads on HAC. With the release of their greatest hits album comes a new single. “Torches” enters the top 50. Danny Gokey from Season 8 goes top 10 on CAC with “Tell Your Heart to Beat”. I also feel compelled to mention Carrie who has been stuck at number 2 for the second week. Usually, Country songs wait patiently for their turn at number one and then surge to the top spot for a week. For the past two weeks, songs have leap-frogged Carrie’s song to grab number one. Wait your turn, boys.

Finally, we have The Voice with two milestones. Cassadee Pope won the third season of the show and she’s now got a duet out with Nashville Star winner Chris Young. “Think of You” went top 15 on Country this week. The latest winner and best seller of show tracks is Jordan Smith. He recently released “Stand in the Light” from his upcoming album and it debuted in the top 40 on AC.

BB confirms that Alt band The 1975 has their first number one on the BB200 with 108K in equivalent sales. Right behind them is their fellow UKer Adele whose “25” just keeps selling into its 15th week (74K, -26%). Macklemore and Lewis debut fourth. Bieber is 5th.

Kelly Clarkson makes a huge move from 120th to 6th with 44K equivalent albums (+682%). 19K of those are albums, so she has 25K in streaming/sales.
