Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Feb 27-Mar 4

Like most weeks lately, the big news in the radio milestone department is from Kelly Clarkson. This amazing Season 1 Idol winner hit 2 milestones this week. “Stronger” went to number one on HAC and given its commanding lead there, it is likely to top that chart for quite some time (the four songs below it are dropping and the nearest song with a bullet is almost 1800 spins behind). It’s conceivable that she could top both the Top 40 and HAC charts next week. The song also eachived top 15 on AC.

Also amazing? Carrie Underwood. Her debut single from her 4th studio album has been available for 10 days and it is already in the top 20 on Country. That is traditionally a very slow moving chart so it’s rare to see a song like “Good Girl” moving so quickly. This song also seems destined to hit number one.

Also over on Country is our latest winner, Scotty McCreery. The debut single, “The Trouble With Girls”, from his debut album has hit top 15 in the format. There are 5 quick moving songs behind it. Will his label try to stick it out for the slow grind to top 10 or will it release an uptempo single in the near future?

Besides Kelly, there were two other Idol Milestones on AC this week. Elliott Yamin’s debut single from his third album (not including his Christmas EPs) has achieved top 30 while Adam Lambert’s debut single from his second album is now top 40.

Jennifer Hudson’s “Think Like a Man” from the movie of the same name achived top 30 on UAC (giving her two songs in the top 30 of that format and the song itself is top 40 in two formats). Mandisa also has two songs on one chart with her “Good Morning” achieving top 40 on CAC.

Finally, we have some UK X-Factor news with One Direction achieving a top 40 on Pop. This was a made up boy-band that Simon is having luck marketing all over the world. It’s made from a bunch of young males who tried out as soloists, but got combined into a group. Worked out well for them.

Kelly’s “Mr. Know It All” and Daughtry’s “Crawling Back to You” both went recurrent on HAC today.
