Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Feb 22-28

X-Factor’s Fifth Harmony explodes onto the chart with “Work From Home”. Social Media went wild for it and so did the Pop programming directors. The song debuts in the top 40 on Pop and at 31st, almost top 30. The song goes for adds this week. Goodness knows I’m not Simon Cowell’s biggest fans, but I have to give him credit for sticking with this group who didn’t have massive success out of the gate. That’s paying off now. Full credit to the women too who have worked diligently for their achievements.

ZAYN, who is also from X-Factor and who Simon also drafted into a group, is sailing high himself. His debut song “Pillowtalk” is poised to enter the top 10 on Pop while debuting in the top 50 on HAC. Radio programmers are definitely warming to ZAYN as an individual much faster than they did to One Direction. Great sales and streaming can help to grease those wheels. This release can be considered nothing less than a HUGE success.

Tessane Chin won The Voice, but has launched off onto her own label and is having success on UAC. This week, “Love Suicide” motors into the top 40 in that format.

Haley Reinhart was on Idol a few weeks and got a chance to feature her latest single “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The song achieves a top 30 on HAC this week. Kelly Clarkson performed on Idol last week and “Piece by Piece” returns to the AC chart. It spent the entire weekend at number 1 and now they are releasing a more acoustic version of the song today.

Lauren Daigle auditioned for Idol before becoming a CAC success story. “Trust in You” goes top 10.

Billboard confirms that Adele’s 25 spent its 10th non-consecutive week at the top of the BB200 chart with 100K in equivalent sales. “25” is just the fifth album released in this century to spend 10 weeks on the top of the chart (“1989”, “Frozen”, “21” and “Fearless” are the other 4. Adele and Swift have done it twice and “Frozen” was all about the female singers). Yo Gotti has the highest debut.
