There is just one milestone this week and the only surprise is that there is one. Christmas was on Thursday and that wreaks havoc on the charts. For formats that have been playing Christmas songs for a while, there are lots of bullets for non-Christmas songs that reclaim the chart the next day (Colton Dixon and Danny Gokey both return to the top 10 on CAC). Meanwhile, on formats that didn’t switch to an all Christmas song format, Christmas chews a day or two out of airplay producing a lot of bullet losses (on Country, only 2 singers (Dierks Bentley and Billy Currington) maintained bullets and that by the skin of their teeth (with spincreases of 11 and 9 respectively)).
Our soul Milestone is from Ella Henderson whose debut single “Ghost” moves into the top 20 on Pop.
I’m not sure if we will get numbers from HDD today (perhaps just the top 15 like last week). It will likely be a down week for albums despite albums being Stocking Stuffers. There were only 3 shopping days prior to Christmas last week and a great deal of those stuffers would have been purchased the previous weekend (ballooning last week’s numbers). People would have started redeeming their gift cards on Christmas day, so iTunes week will be in full effect (though, with everybody seeming to own a device these days, that effect becomes diminished each year – not so many people filling up their brand new devices for the first time).
