Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Dec 14-20

Danny Gokey, 3rd on the 8th Season of Idol, achieves two milestones this week to impressively put two songs in the top 10 in his format. “Lift Up Your Eyes” goest top 5 and “Mary, Did You Know?” goes top 10 to sit right behind it at 6th on the CAC chart. Both songs are from his recently released Christmas Album “Christmas is Here”. He certainly delivered the right album for his genre.

Lauren Daigle who auditioned for Idol also achieves a milestone on CAC. Her “Light of the World” goes top 5 hitting 3rd on the chart right behind her collaboration with Chris Tomlin at 2. That means 4 of the top 6 songs on CAC feature an Idol. Here them roar.

Tori Kelly, another Idol auditioner, achieves two milestones herself. Her latest single “Hollow” enters the top 40 on Rhythmic while her Christmas collaboration with India.Arie and Joe Sample (“Perfect Time”) enters the UAC chart in the top 50.

Rounding out our Idols is Ruben Studdard who is featured on Alvin Garrett’s “By Myself”. This song has been kicking around for a while, but I believe this is the first time the song has entered the top 40 on UAC.

Now, we move over to X-Factor. One Direction, from the UK franchise, moves their latest single into the top 40 on HAC. “Perfect” is their second single from their 5th album that was recently released (“Made in the A.M.”). Meanwhile, Camila Cabello from the US franchise is collaborating with teen Vine sensation, Shawn Mendes. Their “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is already in the top 20 on Pop and now the song hits the HAC chart entering in the top 50.

Billboard reports that Adele sold another gazillion records this week (actual numbers are 825K combined, 790K in straight sales (up 13% and 14% respectively)) to top the BB chart for a 4th week. Everybody else please sit down. She is sitting at 5.98M copies sold and by the time of this writing, I feel confident in predicting she has crossed over the 6M mark. She has the biggest selling album since herself (“21” sold 11.37M to date). She has the best selling and second best selling albums since 2009 and “25” is the best-selling album within a single year since 2004 (and we aren’t finished yet). “21” also returns to the top 10 (49K, 40K).

Bieber holds the number 2 spot with “Purpose” selling 166K (+10%) while Pentatonix moves up to third with “That’s Christmas to Me” (141K, +1%). X-Factor’s One Direction sees a surge in sales to 4th with “Made in the A.M.” selling 67K (+11%).

Jordan Smith who won The Voice last week sits just outside the top 10 at 11th for his compilation album. His Season 9 collection is credited with 48K in sales, 8K in pure album sales. He achieves the highest TEA on the chart with 40K and “Mary, Did You Know” sold 161K. Jordan managed 4 songs in the top 20 of the Digital Songs chart.
