When Fantasia performed “Collard Greens & Cornbread”, I thought it would be one of those “Idol is having us on, let’s just say this is the new single, but we don’t expect it to go anywhere” singles. Near the end of an album’s life on a chart, the cost trade-offs don’t always mean that a new single should be released. Plus, the song seems a little old fashioned. But, it looks like UAC is embracing it. The song has flown up the chart from 68 last week to an impressive 28 this week with a strong bullet.
Also making inroads on UAC is Jennifer Hudson’s “Don’t Look Down”. I haven’t seen an official released date for this song, but it is already in the top 40. Given her “Where You At” has lost its bullet on UAC and Urban, the label may start pushing DLD harder. But UAC/Urban can be weird and it is not unusual to regain a bullet so WYA may still have life in it.
Another significant gainer is Kelly Clarkson’s duet with Jason Alden, “Don’t You Wanna Stay”. This song had just reached top 50 on HAC last week and now it has reached top 40. Also on HAC, Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” has appeared on the chart in the otp 50.
