Melanie Martinez has come a long way from when she was a 16 year old member of Team Adam on The Voice in 2012. She’s come out with a well-received major label studio album, Cry Baby, and is in the midst of a sold out club tour.
Melanie’s quirky storytelling has impressed fans and critics alike. Now, she’s been invited to join American Idol alum, Adam Lambert, to open on his Australian/New Zealand concert dates in January! The new tour dates offer the newbie artist the opportunity to play some larger venues as well as to be introduced to an international audience.
Their musical styles are different–Adam is an electronic pop guy, while Melanie is a brooding, off-center singer songwriter. Both are iconoclasts, however, with a love of fashion and the visual arts which they use to push their musical and artistic boundaries. In short. The pair are a good fit!
Melanie announced on twitter that she’s joining the tour.

“Working on this album has been very emotional and super personal, and creating this character Cry Baby helped me deal with my own insecurities,” Melanie said recently about her album to Billboard magazine. “I was able to throw it all onto Cry Baby instead of myself, which really helped me. It’s definitely been a process.”
Billboard has posted a couple of acoustic performances from Melanie.
