The Masked Dancer is coming, set to premiere after the FOX NFL football game on Sunday December 27. The new series, inspired by a bit on the Ellen Degeneres Show, will move to its regular Wednesday timeslot beginning on Wednesday January 6.
The Masked Dancer will feature 10 celebrities, in specially designed costumes, who will be joined on stage by masked partners and back-up dancers, as they perform a series of dances together. The routines will span from hip-hop to salsa, jazz to tap dancing and more.
The new characters are: Cotton Candy, Cricket, Disco Ball, Exotic Bird, Hammerhead, Ice Cube, Moth, Sloth, Tulip, Zebra.
Check out Instagram gifs of each character below. One big difference between the costumes on The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer is that the latter have to be moveable and breathable. There are costumed celebrities on The Masked Singer who can barely move around the stage, depending on the design of the costume.
In a NEW The Masked Dancer preview, judges Ken Jeong, former American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance judge Paula Abdul, former “Giraffe” Mask on The Masked Singer Brian Austin Green and actress and singer Ashley Tisdale try to guess the contestant’s identities through a series of clues. Comedian Craig Robinson hosts.
On The Masked Singer, a celebrities singing voice can be the biggest clue of all. But absent that, judges will have to ask each celebrity pointed questions. The preview clip promises NO STUNT DOUBLES as a contestant falls off an acrobatic loop suspended in the air. OOPS.
