Maks Says the New Direction of Dancing with the Stars is “Not So fun”

I know many peeps out there are fans of Dancing with the Stars dance pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and were really disappointed when his partner, Misty May-Treanor was forced to leave the show due to injury.   I’ve got some interview goodness, and it’s provacative. Just for y’all!

Maks spoke recently with Entertainement Weekly, and he’s none too pleased about the direction the show has taken this year.   He doesn’t approve of the introduction of non-traditional ballroom dances like the four new dances (jitterbug, west coast swing, salsa and hustle) introduced last week.

Check out the videos HERE.

“I think they’re trying to mix it up and I think it’s going to be not so fun because when you get a group of ballroom dancers who did ballroom their entire life and throw them–hey, why don’t you choreograph something you’ve never done before– some people might have issues with that.” Maks believes traditional ballroom is what sets the show apart from that “other show” So You think You Can Dance.

“There’s a bunch of weird things that happened this season, ” says Maks, “And I just hope that the show will look at it and re-evaluate and say ‘You know what? Let’s keep it the way it was.”

About some of the contestants, Maks names Brooke Burke as a front-runner, and accurately predicts an eminent demise for Toni Braxton. He thinks Susan Lucci will go far because of her fan base.

While some contestants appear to resent Cloris Leachman’s presence on the show, Maks is blunt about her dancing skills, but appreciates her other talents. “She brings that comedy to the show, and she needs to continue doing it, ” He says, “Let’s face it, she’s not going to stand up to the dance levels of others, so she has to do that other thing which was her personality.”

Maks says he was in charge of collecting Cloris and putting her on her spot.   Corky’s attitude was “I spend enough time with her!” Ahem!

There was no discussion of either Cheryl Burke’s or Lacey Schwimmer’s weight gain. Thank God.
