Last week, Lee told the Morning Call that he has yet to see any money from his pre-Idol releases.

However, label co-founder, Ryan McGuire says Lee will see payment–after costs of making 2007’s So I’m Told and the recent Slumberland are recovered–a standard for most recording contracts.

“I haven’t made a dime off it, either, ” McGuire says.

McGuire puts the recording and manufacturing costs of both albums at $55, 000 to $60, 000. 5, 500 copies of a disc have to be sold to break even, he says.

Nielsen Soundscan reports Slumberland has sold a total of 11K copies, as of two weeks ago.

“He’s obviously going to make money off this, ” McGuire said. “I look forward to paying Lee. That was always the intention.”

In the meantime, before Lee was released from his contract with Wuli to participate in American Idol, he had a 3-record deal with the label.  There are more than a dozen songs in the can, which McGuire plans to release as a third disc.

But he promised Lee he would hold off on the release until after the Idol winner’s major label debut with Sony this fall.

McGuire said he and Lee “are leaving the option open” for the singer to consider using some of the unreleased songs for that album.
