  1. I’m so happy for Lee! I hope he has the time of his life tonight, and I know he will!

  2. Reminder:

Please don’t use this thread as another opportunity to fight the Season 9 fan wars. If you aren’t following the concert? This thread is not for you.

Please stay on topic, and the Topic is Lee and tonight’s concert at the racetrack.

Discussing other Idols, other threads on the blog or meta discussions about posters is absolutely off topic.

    Thanks.

  3. mj, thanks for opening this thread :D We really appreciate it. Yes, tonight is all about LEE and his AP show. Nothing else.

  4. Thanks MJ! :) Much appreciated!

(Alright, i just posted this in the other thread & totally copy-pasting)
    Hey guys!

Thanks again to everyone for helping out by following the list and RT-ing those tweets. I’m hoping for some new Lee fans to join us at MJs but the registration thing might seem bothersome. We did get our list and thread info around to some pretty big tweeters like LeeDeWyzeIntl, WyzeGuysandGals and ainow who linked their followers.

Enjoy the concert..this is super exciting. wish i could chat with u guys while its happening but i gotta leave 30 mins b4 it starts.
Hope you guys enjoy our first collaborative initiative as Lee fans on MJs in the form of Lee’s first post-Idol concert thread!

BTW…no big deal but for all that dont know- there is another list we’re following on twitter:

ETA. Lee will make you feel better :)

  10. I wonder if anyone said anything about crowd size yet? I know there are lots of tweeters and everyone seems excited. I just want this to be perfect for Lee.

  11. Who else is REALLY excited????

  12. Can’t wait to see and hear Lee. Glameritis, I recognize your name as a Lee fan on MJ’s. You have to join our Lee Dewyze cozy corner.
When you get a chance go over to the thread of Lee’s ANS at the Village Underground and see all the Lee love!

  13. Thanks Mj we really appreciate both your posting this and your guidelines.

glamertitis No harm in posting it – its the same as the one in the header!

  14. I’m here! My seat is TO DIE FOR.

Crowd is pumped. Lee keeps peeking over the rail at the back of the grandstand and everyone loses their minds.

  15. I just want to make sure of something. There is no live broadcast being shown on UStream right now is there?

  16. wjmtv, any idea how many people are there? What’s your best guest?

  17. Andrew twitted that he was about to take the stage with lee? not sure what that means tho.

andrewagarcia Miss these guys!!!!:) RT @BassickBrandon: Hanging with my homies @andrewagarcia and @timstewart1. About to hit the stage with @LeeDeWyze
    9 minutes ago via Echofon

  18. Landmda, maybe Andrew’s backing Lee up? It’s entirely possible and would explain (besides his close friendship with lee) why he’s there.

  19. I’m in a box and can only see a quarter of GA but it’s lookin’ gooood. They’re playing “Fighter”

  20. Ladies, I guess we are going to make this our new thread to post on because the ANS thread has over 700 responses.

  21. Brandon and Tim are the bass and lead guitar from idol Live, wonder who the pianist will be? and drums too perhaps? is Andrew good on any of those?

  22. LOL-all those red beanies waiting to get in. I’m so excited! Glad it didn’t rain.

  23. kvwicks13:

thanks – I am going to go figure that out right now! wow! I had no idea people were posting there! Thank you for letting me know where the Lee fans were here! :)

  24. I stand corrected girls, guys, ladies, gents, young and old! The one thing we all have in common is our love for Lee!

  25. Anybody else hear any number updates? I heard 7000 tickets sold, but don’t know if it’s accurate.

  26. I was wondering if wjmtv was going to make it there tonight! Lucky you – enjoy!

  27. Kristen8108

Front row for Lee’s show. Should get some great HD videos!!

    great!!!!

  28. Kristen, as we know, has an amazing HD video camera so I’m super excited to see her video!

Hope you all at home are wearing your hoodies and/or beanies. I’m wearing my pink hoodie right now!

  29. I have 911 punched into the phone so all I have to do is press ‘talk’ in case I need resuscitation! :)

  30. kvwicks. I just changed from beanie to my hoodie jacket.
Hubby came in the room saw me with beanie and 2 laptops – I think I am freaking him out :)

  31. My hubby is not home yet, thank goodness. I have windows 7 on my computer so I have about 5 different windows open between twitter, upstream, mj’s etc.

  32. I have 911 punched into the phone so all I have to do is press ‘talk’ in case I need resuscitation!

that would be fantastic if he sang Never There

    That would be EPIC!

  37. Not really a Lee fan, but I wish him luck and hope that all of you that are his loyal fans really enjoy the concert tonight. I will take a look at the videos if he indeed plays some new music, because I am curious to hear what his album may end up sounding like.

  38. It would’ve been nice if they played lee’s music while they’re waiting.

  39. It would’ve been nice if they played lee’s music while they’re waiting.

    agree!

  40. How long does a battery last for ustream? I thought it drained the battery pretty fast.

  41. I’m on an iPod itouch which has to be on charger already. I don’t think I can get the ustream.. I couldn’t with the live interviews they gave. So my thumb is very busy and I pop back and forth! I’m having a supreme-Lee good time though!!

  42. FanofLee4life said her battery won’t die, it’s fully charged. I’m confident she tested it out alot this week lol.

Ok, strap yourselves in guys! I’m literally shaking haha. Cheers :)

  43. She is a riot! Quote “You’re never too old to have an obsession for Lee”!

  44. Maybe that boy who won the lookalike contest can open for Lee!

  45. girlygirl, thanks for stopping by and wishing the best for Lee :D That’s really nice of you.

  46. Aprilfoolish, I thought the little boy singing the Boxer was so cute!

  47. He’s now singing “So What Now” first cut off Slumberland album

  48. Couldn’t hear him but it was so fun to hear all the people singing along. The crowd looks quite far away from the stage. Hope the videos will turn out good.

  49. Is he singing it like he did on tour? Or more mellow? I see he is using mike, not head set.

  50. Think its the local reporter!

And he’s changing things up again!

  51. aprilfoolish , this Rocket Man is a mellower version ( almost the same version he did on Leno) which I absolutely love.

  52. Lee once said he likes to get into the music and build on a set, seems like the songs he’s choosing fit together even though some he did at tour but more rocker fashion, now doing them more mellow? I can’t wait to hear them!0

  53. Ok Lee Adam has given me the night off. I´ll give you one more chance to win me over! Work it out!

  54. New song gives me chills. I am almost speechless!! This is sooo beautiful!!!

  55. I loved that new song. And now he’s doing Hallelujah. This concert is unbelievable!

  56. I don’t believe this my computer choose to act up during the new song. I missed it. (Thumping the table)

  57. Did the crowd seem to love it? Is hallelujah the Ellen version?

  58. I really like the new song. So good to see a lot of Lee love here tonight.

  59. Kristen tweeted she got the new song but some girls were talking and screaming. Not sure how it turned out.

  60. What’s nice is that the new song sounded like him and something he would have written!

  61. I love the new song. Had to laugh at the funny tweets about it being another sleeping song.

  62. Well it was fun while it lasted. Any other live streams out there anybody know about?

  63. Is it me or did the live stream vid just went dead in the middle of DMB?
Nooooooo. (I so hope it comes back up)

  64. So isn’t it ironic that the stream crashed during the song Crash? LOL

  65. Now it’s saying it’s off the air completely. Looks like that might be it for us guys. :(

  66. After Crash, he said “technically” he’s done, but then he sang “Stay”.

  67. I just tweeted @run_katya_run at the concert and asked her to let us know if he sings anything after Stay or if he’s done.

  68. renataamelo : I liked the new song…

I saw your earlier post of giving Lee a chance to win you over…..so glad you like his new song.

ETA : I am loving the melody of the new song and I agree that it’s got the Lee vibe written all over it.

  70. Oh no! Kristen just tweeted that her 2nd memory card isn’t working!

  71. I cant wait to hear a clear copy of the new song. I really liked the vibe of it!

  72. so did the new song sound like something they could release as his single?

  73. LeeDeWyzeQuotes RT @JessieXO So I’m told. He almost left then sat back down lmaooo this guy

  74. Imkhemari

Thanks for the link!. Its got the new song on it and I love love love it. I can’t wait for his album now. I’m even more excited than ever.

Oops. So excited until I keep messing up the b-quote thingy

  75. Finished

    TribLocalHLesz

Tells everyone to say hi as he films the crowd. Says he loves everyone and leaves the stage. #leedewyze #TribLocal

  76. Anyone who goes to his concerts will get more for their money. The dude won’t stop singing. Love it!

  77. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Kristen got a good video of the new song! I want to hear it again!

  78. Concert’s too short. Haha. I can sit and listen to him the whole day.

  79. Did anyone else get a real DMB vibe watching the live stream tonight? I surely did. I love Lee and his whole vibe.

  80. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Kristen got a good video of the new song! I want to hear it again!

She tweeted video was good, but loud girls were next to her. :(

  81. Well, all the twitterers loved the show! So many great compliments for Lee – I am very happy for him tonight. I heard his unique voice a few times tonight on the live feed and he sounded great. The ending of Only Dreaming is so pretty :)

  82. LOL the screams were reminiscent of what the AI audience and the tour audience always sounded like! Hes really such a sweetheart. I’ve never seen anyone so grateful and always saying thank you so much.

  83. I love love love (x infinity) the rocker Lee but I love this Lee even more. :)

  84. Imkhemari, I went back to the feed as you suggested and listened to Only Dreaming again. It’s really a beautiful song. And that’s listening to it with static and screamers. I can only imagine how it will sound as a studio recording!

  85. This was really fun! Thank you, MJ!

Yes, it does sound like everyone loved it. I really love the new song.

  86. As much as I loved it, not sure “Only Dreaming” should be the first single. Something upbeat might be his best chance at getting a hit single and radio play and as gorgeous as it is, OD may not do the trick.

It sucks, but that’s the reality of the music biz these days.

  87. I love how the crowd kept singing along-not just to the well known covers, but also to the songs he wrote before Idol.

  88. I agree that his first single should be an upbeat song! He said his album is made up of folk rock, pop, rock and alternative so I’m sure we will hear many sides of Lee on this album.

  89. There’s a twitterer (besides Kristen) that has a video, sounds less HD than kristen’s so may be up very quickly. I guess we better keep a look out – it may not stay up long – labels pull them because of piracy issues!

    garpods22

Took vid of the new song and anabelle

  90. I love how the crowd kept singing along-not just to the well known covers, but also to the songs he wrote before Idol.

artemis, I think they sang louder for his songs! You could barely hear him during So What Now!

  91. Kvwicks, all I can say is that if the other new songs on his album are even half as good as “Only Dreaming,” then he’s going to put out one hell of a good album!

I am so impressed by that song.

  92. Powter48, I have a feeling this was the song Lee wanted to be his single early on. Since then he has said they haven’t decided. I’d be surprised if his new single isn’t something more uptempo.

BUT (and it’s a big but) I love Only Dreaming and I can’t wait to hear a clearer version of it…maybe later tonight?

  93. Imkhemari, oh, you’re right. I forgot about that. RCA pulled one of Cook’s new songs within a few hours.

Okaaaaay, so now I’m never going to be able to get up from this computer!

  94. As much as I loved it, not sure “Only Dreaming” should be the first single. Something upbeat might be his best chance at getting a hit single and radio play and as gorgeous as it is, OD may not do the trick.

It sucks, but that’s the reality of the music biz these days.

Yes, as gorgeous as the new song is I hope it is not his first single.

  95. Well we can probably ask kristen and garpods directly if we can’t get it any other way. So long as everyone promises to buy the single!

    Also Kristen8108

Look what @marydmbcook scored! @leedewyze’s setlist. Woo!! http://twitpic.com/2rnn48

  96. Dlynne , what do you mean by “RCA pulled one of Cook’s new songs within a few hours.” ( sending this while listening to Lee’s OD for the nth time now)

  97. Yep I was just going to say better keep an eye out for video early because, um, well RCA sucks.

JMO but I dont think he would have played his first potential single tonight. I think he just put a song he really likes out there to gauge some reaction. Not only do I think the single will be more upbeat but I think we’ll hear it closer to when its decided on.

  98. Lee’s been sitting for the last 2 shows. Ford day and tonight he didn’t have a strap on his guitar – I wonder if that’s his preference? It’s certainly looks more laidback, more like a jam session. New image?

  99. rivermaya, Cook and Co. played a new song during soundcheck for a recent concert and the videos were pulled off of youtube very quickly.

  100. I guess Andrew wasn’t on stage. Can’t wait til wmjtv gets home!

  101. Only Dreaming may be a single at some point, I just don’t think it will be the first one released. If that first single is a hit and helps sell the album, then maybe OD will be released as one of the follow up singles.

All speculation of course, I have no idea what RCA is planning to do, wish I did.

  102. There’s an mp3 of Only Dreaming on twitter already.

You can hear the screaming in the background, but it will have to do until we get a better version elsewhere. It’s so beautiful!

  103. Dlynne. Thanks.

mp3 of OD. I want a copy of that song badly but isn’t it a crime? Ugggghhhh.

  104. Didn’t catch the live stream so thanks, Imkhemari for that tip on where we can hear the new song (and thanks to you and everyone who helped put this together! And of course to mj!)

Only Dreaming sounded beautiful. I agree, Powter48, if this is an indication of how good his album will be, I’m happy. :-)

  105. Imkhemari : It’s certainly looks more laidback, more like a jam session. New image?

I liked this laid back style but rocking out to a “few” songs to get audiences on their feet would add more fun IMO. Maybe he can mix and match in his future concerts?

  106. The sound wasn’t good on that usstream, but from what I could tell, while the new song is pretty, it likely won’t have much chance of being played on Pop radio, which means I don’t know if RCA would want to release it as a single. Might just end up being an album track.

It was very mellow. I thought it was pretty (although it was hard to hear any lyrics with the crowd screaming) but I hope his whole album isn’t that mellow and laid back, because I think that would bore me to tears. Hopefully he’ll have some rockier, uptempo stuff on there as well.

  107. mp3 of OD. I want a copy of that song badly but isn’t it a crime? Ugggghhhh.

LOL! I just said there’s one on twitter not that I downloaded it. It can’t sound good anyway with all the screaming on it.

    Thanks for the thread mj!

  108. Listening to Only Dreaming again. Artemis, you are right. It was so tender. My heart just stopped and melted.

  109. Well I did get to hear OD and it’s a lovely song. The screaming girls? Lovely too, since they were screaming for Lee, but I will be happy to hear video with them a little more muted. Did anyone hear a piano? I think Lee knows how to make his set flow. He said the show would be more intimate. Like on his pre idol cd (and try to imagine trying to pick single from them!!’) the songs seem to flow. I think I read somewhere that it was Lee’s intention to remix those songs with a more rocker edge for another album, like he started to do with Princess. I didn’t get to listen but from the tweets and having heard Lee sing some of these songs all different, I can almost imagine them. And everyone said he sounded awesome!

  110. AIaddict :LOL! I just said there’s one on twitter not that I downloaded it.

Oh, AIaddict. Believe me, I didn’t mean it that way.
I was really so thinking of downloading it and compensate by pre-ordering 3 more of his album to make up :)

  111. So who was it that accompanied him? Tim Stewart and someone else from Idol? That makes me really curious about what he is going to do for a band when he does a solo tour. What do you guys think?

  112. The Twitter feed is still going strong. I followed the girl from paper, she said she was going to write something later and tweet it. I’m surprised Lee didn’t meet with fans after show. He must be exhausted. So….What now? Sigh more waiting….this really is like childbirth! But it’s worth waiting for!!

  113. Well, his old band members are all so um, less young than he is, so maybe he will hold auditions for new ones. Adam did that last year.

  114. So who was it that accompanied him? Tim Stewart and someone else from Idol? That makes me really curious about what he is going to do for a band when he does a solo tour. What do you guys think?

In the past, the winners have auditioned new band members after the album drops and before a tour is started. There’s just no extra time right now. I think the guys sounded good tonight and they didn’t overpower his voice, which I’m sure is very tired.

  115. So…What now? Sigh more waiting….this really is like childbirth! But it’s worth waiting for!!

Sounds remarkably like a song or two Lee wrote!

  116. Aprilfoolish, next we will find out what the first single will be from the new album. that should be exciting too.

  117. Thanks Mj for setting this up – it was so good to have somewhere to follow the concert and talk!

  118. Yes, thanks again MJ for setting this up for us. It was very much appreciated.

  119. “All that I can see is you til the sun goes down, and til it is, close your eyes an promise me Ill be a secret only you can keep.”
    The lyric are so beautiful!

  120. rivermaya
Oh, AIaddict. Believe me, I didn’t mean it that way.
I was really so thinking of downloading it and compensate by pre-ordering 3 more of his album to make up

No problem, just clarifying what I said. You know my Lee luv runs deep. I’ve already preodered 3 copies of the cd and plan on buying atleast two more.

  121. “All that I can see is you til the sun goes down, and til it is, close your eyes an promise me Ill be a secret only you can keep.” The lyric are so beautiful!

Is there more? It’s really gorgeous!

  122. You know my Lee luv runs deep.

    Ditto. Same here.
Sometimes I wonder how I can be so affected by Lee and his music – but it is what it is.
Just can’t get enough of either him or his music.

  123. In the past, the winners have auditioned new band members after the album drops and before a tour is started. There’s just no extra time right now. I think the guys sounded good tonight and they didn’t overpower his voice, which I’m sure is very tired.

Yeah I know both David Cook and Kris Allen have old friends/bandmates in their bands and they auditioned other members. I wondered about Lee’s old band since they are much older than him. I don’t really remember when he started putting his band together but I know David had his band in place by the cd release party and his appearance on SNL in November ’08. Not sure about Kris. Anyway I am just curious and hope he gets some good backing musicians.

I did like OD too but I agree with others I wouldn’t go with it as the first single. I would pick something more uptempo. Beautiful song though. And lol at the sleeping theme he has going on.

  124. Yeah. there’s more and several versions of the lyrics on tweeter.LOL

  125. Damn that photo just shows once again how Lee has really great hair. That’s the first thing that popped into my head. And yes Powter48 he does look really happy. I wish I could have been at that concert.

  126. I just caught up on everything, watched the ustream and read your comments. Sounded like such a great show and Lee’s voice was incredible tonight. I really like the new song too, can’t wait to hear a cleaner version of it. Good reminder about RCA taking down David Cook’s new song, so my reccomendation is to get an mp3 or download the video ASAP because RCA could start deleting youtubes of it. Also, if anyone here is reading and has a video of it, upload it as unlisted without any tags or revealing title and just give the link out. I’m so happy for Lee and all the fans, the first of many great nights to come.

  127. There’s a very short (less than a minute) Youtube video of Lee singing “Use Somebody” at tonight’s concert. Much clearer video and much better sound than the stream.

It’s not the whole song but it’s better than nothing for now.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UneAcJ337QA

Maybe he/she managed to record “Only Dreaming” too?

  128. In terms of putting together a band, Kris had his together well before his album dropped — their first gig together was the Miami Dolphins tailgate party in October 2009. So I would think that Lee and RCA have probably already started the process for auditioning guys for his band.

  129. Dang that was like a snack size snicker bar…it was so good tho

It’s not the whole song but it’s better than nothing for now.

  130. Thanks girlygirl. I knew Kris had his band together for that event but I couldn’t remember when it was.

  131. In the words of OK Go, “Here it goes again.” :)

As I already said on Mpi (My Pathetic iTouch) my seat was amazing. Granted, I was about ¾ of the way up the grandstand but….if I could have walked on air in a straight line down to the stage, I would have ended up on Lee’s lap. Where it would have been very crowded, because he already had a guitar there. But, for anniem, I thought about it.

As I said from the venue, I couldn’t see all of GA, and I’m a terrible judge of crowd size, but if they didn’t sell at least 20K tickets, I’ll be surprised. The place was teeming with people. Two groups in particular were predominant: women over 40, and women under 20. Especially women *well* under 20. The two sitting in front of me listened excitedly to about three songs, then started playing that weird clapping game we all played back in the Pleistocene when I was nine, then they spun in their chairs for a while.

That’s right. Spun in their chairs. Apparently, the box seats are where the SERIOUS horserace people sit, because not only was I in a comfy leather office spinny chair, but I had a computer screen at my right elbow, AND A DESK. So I took good notes. So as I said, this will be my Best Recap Ever. ;)

While we were waiting, and intermittently shrieking every time Lee stuck his head out over the railing (I swear, he was messing with us—I could just hear him saying to Andrew, “Hey, watch this!”) they played the Black-Eyed Peas’ “Tonight’s Gonna Be a Good Night,” which I can’t stand, but this time I may have grooved a little.

I learned something tonight. When you’re in a racetrack grandstand after dark, that’s only a couple of miles from one of the world’s busiest airports, you get quite a light show. It looked like Christmas out there. Fun fact #1: planes come in over Lake Michigan in groups of three. Who knew?

Fun fact #2: shrieking 9-year-old girls have voices that drill into your head like a brand-new Mikita.

They had fireworks! It was pretty cool. The fireworks went off and suddenly there was a limo on the track, and suddenly Lee was onstage. He said hi, then promptly turned his back on us and fussed with his guitar for about 30 seconds. That was funny. Low-key Lee is alive and well, despite the pyrotechnics.

The backdrop of the stage was a huge black cloth covering the entire space, with his name in gigantic letters stretching across the top. If I could ask him just one question, it would be, “So. Just how surreal is all of this, really?” He’s probably still pinching himself on a regular basis.

The sound mix sucked for the first three songs, then got marginally better. Throughout the night, I only heard about 1/16 of his banter. Caught a few “love you guys,” but that’s only because I was reading his lips on the monitor. I guess with the races going on, they didn’t get to do a full sound check. :( Oh well. Fortunately, I knew every song he did except the new one, so I don’t guess I really missed much, what with my active imagination and all.

    On to the show….

“So What Now” was very good. I really liked this version. Tim was doing some gorgeous work on the guitar. Why isn’t this guy a star in his own right? I haven’t seen him up close, but I was close enough at the Idols Chicago concert, and he didn’t look too bad. WTH?

I should add here something I already said back in May. Lee’s no slouch on the guitar either. I would love for him to really cut loose some day.

He blew a string on “Rocket Man,” and then forgot a verse and had to do the “keep it going, guys” hand gesture while he geared up to sing the right one. Cute. Then he had to vamp while they changed his string. I don’t know if he was nervous or what, but the Chatty Cathy we’ve all come to know and love didn’t appear to be there. He seemed to be trying to think of things to say. Then I think Tim and BtHB (Brandon the Hot Bassist) decided to save his ass and started playing an intro to something. He seemed to say, “Ok, yeah, I can do this” stepped up to the mike and….

The place went apeshit. They love “Use Somebody.” Probably because he really throws his heart into that one. The opening line induces chills. It was wonderful, and not just because we got, about 1 minute in, the first heart-stopping smile of the night. I’m old enough to be his mother and therefore resolutely refuse to view him as dreamy but damn, he’s got a beautiful smile. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard him sing this song (let’s say “more than five”) but this was my favorite version.

What’s next? Oh dear. Oh my goodness. I saw the multipostings (of which I was one) when he started singing “Annabelle.” Guess I’m not the only one who loves it! Tim was making some serious magic back there and all right, so I may have gotten a little quivery even though it was a live version. Sue me. ;)

No, seriously, it was awesome. The audience got kinda quiet. And I noticed something.

I remember how blown away I was when I saw Casey’s homecoming vids shot in the dive bar where he let it all hang out and played what he was born to. It was a completely different person from the one I’d seen on the show. Well, Lee is starting to do the same thing, only he’s taking it slower. He’s morphing. And based on what I’ve seen of his pre-Idol work, he’s morphing into something he’s never been before. The soul we saw in ANS may be a new angle for him. From what I’ve heard so far, I sure hope so! But tonight I got the first niggling feeling that Lee fans who haven’t checked out his pre-Idol stuff, may be in for a surprise when they buy his album, because the real Lee is very different from the one we saw in TV between January and May. And speaking of his album….

“Only Dreaming” was just lovely. The chorus is gorgeous. I agree with those who don’t think it would be the best choice for a first single, but if he didn’t have a (major) hand in writing it, I’ll eat my red beanie. And from what I could make out of the words (lip-reading again) he wasn’t kidding when he called himself a romantic. I can’t wait to hear the full studio version.

“Hallelujah” made me smile, as did “Beautiful Day.” (Oh, when he was squeezing “Free Falling” in there, he got quite an audience reaction on the line “I’m a bad boy,” which seemed to tickle him.) If he were an old cynical bastard like me, I might think he was still doing those two songs as sort of a middle finger pointed in certain directions. But he’s too sweet for that, so I guess he’s singing them because he genuinely loves them. I know *I* genuinely love it when he sings them.

Wheee! I get to hear “Crash Into Me” again! I gotta say, that’s the weirdest version of that very weird song, that I’ve ever heard. I loved it.

Judging from the audience reaction, if he can get another “Stay” as that debut single, he’s going to have a monster hit on his hands. That one is golden, especially the way he sells it live.

Didn’t expect “The Boxer.” I think he may have almost gotten a little misty at the very end. Probably cuz dad was there (sniff). “So I’m Told” is another great song, and it was a beautiful closer. Given all that’s happened since he wrote it, I wonder if he’s psychic.

As “So I’m Told” tells us, I think he said (again, trying to lip read here) that he leaves tomorrow (no Bears vs. Packers on Monday night, I guess :( :( ) and that he’s flying to LA. I think that’s what he said, but don’t quote me.

He did that I love you thing, sort of hanging over the mic because he’d set his guitar on the stool, then he said, “I’m sorry but I have to do this,” and he pulled out his cellphone and cued it up to film everybody. So they all yelled and screamed as he panned back & forth a couple of times. Then he left. More fireworks!!! Wheee!!!

So that makes four times in four months that I’ve seen Lee DeWyze do his thing. In case you aren’t sure, he’s very good at doing his thing. I look forward to his concert tour, because he’s going to grow and get even better. It will be fun to watch.

  132. This was just posted on Twitter:
    (From arlingtonpark.com)
An enthusiastic throng of 20,339 was on hand at Arlington Park Racecourse to greet season 9 “American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze as he performed his first solo concert since being crowned Idol champion last May. On a cool but comfortable autumn evening, the Mount Prospect native performed for nearly an hour…

    20,339! Wow!

  133. Wow! Loved this newest version of beautiful day! “I’m a baaaaad boy…..” lol……

  134. 20,339????? OMG! I new it was packed but I couldn’t see the whole place. THAT IS WAY BEYOND WHAT WE WERE EVEN HOPING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to Lee!

  135. Wjmtv thank you for your recap! It was awesome. You have a way with words especially in your paragraph about Lee morphing. I’m glad you got to go and I so wish I could have!

Judging from the audience reaction, if he can get another “Stay” as that debut single, he’s going to have a monster hit on his hands. That one is golden, especially the way he sells it live.

Stay is my favorite off Slumberland and I love love love the live version from his AP concert in May. I have a mp3 of it and I listen to that version more than I do the album version. I just love the emotion he put into the line “I haven’t slept yet.” Gives me chills. I so hope there is video of that song from tonight.

Interesting that you say he wasn’t very Chatty Cathy. Maybe he’s tired? But sounds like typical Lee with the I love yous. :)
Thanks again for giving us a recap!

  136. Does anyone know if- Only Dreaming was co- written by the dudes from Espionage(Hey Soul Sister,Come Back To Me)?-those are the best writers Lee was given-wayyyy better than Kara D.(hurl).If its the best single-I SAY PUT IT OUT FIRST-the moronic, tasteless American public needs their ASSES KICKED,and Lee,and RCA should put it out there FIRST!!!!!!!…

  137. wjmtv, wonderful recap. I was waiting for it. So much details. Thank you so much.

  138. I’m really liking Only Dreaming, I think it could become a classic. I can imagine it being sung by every young man to his sweetheart. It feels like a summer song – long romantic twilights.

jaybee are you asking or saying that Espionage are the cowriters?

  139. Sorry, I just had to get that squealing out of the way first.

wjmtv, oh my gosh, you had a desk??? And a comfy leather chair? That’s too funny!

Loved your recap, as always. Yes, I think you’re right about people being surprised with the music on his album. He’s been saying that over and over again in interviews, too. I’m glad I’m familiar with his previous work and know what to expect.

ETA: Oh, and can you imagine how tired he must be? Maybe a little overwhelmed as well. It was a great idea to have his first solo concert at home in front of adoring fans so he can get over the nerves. I bet he’ll be better at talking to the crowd now that he’s got the first one out of the way.

  140. 20k. Wow. Like I said on Twitter that’s more people than I could have ever hoped for. I’m so happy that the fans came out tonight to see Lee at his first solo concert. Many more to come, and next time, I WILL BE THERE!!! LOL

  141. Obviously people are going to say I’m only saying this because I’m not a fan, and also I’ll preface up front by saying a lot of people wish they could get a crowd that size, but if Lee had 40,000 at the same venue for his homecoming, the fact that he had half that tonight for this concert doesn’t look like a good sign for him to me. *shrugs*

  142. I’m very curious to hear who helped with “Only Dreaming,” because it sounded like pure Lee.

  143. wjmtv thanks for the recap!

and holy cow 20k people there? another amazing turn out!

Thanks to everyone for posting the pic snd you tube links.

  144. For someone who sings a lot about sleep, he sure is good about depriving me of it! I have to work tomorrow! I just love Dreaming Alone. I could here it on radio! Would this be considered a ballad?
    Loved your recap wjmtv!
Thank you for this threadj mj! This has beenost fun I’ve had all summer!!
    And 20,339!! Amazing!!!

  145. wjmtv – what a great recap. I was there too but honestly I was so darn excited I can barely remember it all. Didn’t he open with Walk Away, the Ben Harper song? From where I was (elevated center stage) I thought the acoustics were great. I couldn’t understand him well when he was talking but during the songs his voice was clear and loud, not overpowered by too loud bass or drums like at the United Center. I thought his voice was unbelievably good. Stay for example was so much better that when he did it in May. It was so fun when all the fans joined in to sing “Haven’t Slept Yet”. How good that must make him feel that so many of us new the words to a Slumberland song! I loved all the songs though. The new one gave me chills. Very much a Lee song from the poetic lyrics to the way his voice makes you feel the emotion to the dreaming theme (again!). Didn’t he say it was his favorite song he ever wrote?

The difference is of course that tonight they all paid for their tickets.

Imagine that. 20,339 people PAID to see Lee DeWyze tonight.

Sounds pretty impressive to me. :)

  147. First of all the Homecoming Concert was advertised on the most popular show on TV. 2nd the tickets were free. I am very impressed that 20,000 PAID to see Lee this time after maybe just seeing him in May. Plus I live in Mt. Prospect and this concert was NOT well publicized by Arlington Park. I kept running into people the last couple weeks who still hadn’t heard about it. I never saw any press or ads in the 2 big Chicago papers and no big signs in town. Lee should be very, very happy that he got such a huge crowd!

  148. *shrugs*

Well considering that 40K came for free and 20K paid for the pleasure *shrugs*!

    :)

  149. The difference is of course that tonight they all paid for their tickets.

I bet Crystal wishes she could get a crowd that size. I know her fans do.

As I recall most of the people at his homecoming paid as well, to ensure they could get in – they paid for admission to the races that day.

And did I mention Crystal? No. Not at all, so thank you very much. Of course, I could say she played for 50,000 people a couple weeks ago, but they weren’t all there just because of her, it was a festival. Kinda like how the 40,000 that were at Lee’s homecoming weren’t probably all there to see just him – some of them came for the races and probably figured they’d just stick around and make a day of it. Nothing wrong with that either.

  150. I’ll be honest. I expected that “paying for tickets” thing to mean we’d be lucky if we got 7000 there tonight. Clearly, Chicago loves the homeboy. And he loves them back.

As always, it’s a pleasure to be the eyes & ears of those here, as much as I can be. It helps me to remember everything too!

P.S. idjfan, yes, he did Harper first. I overlooked it in my notes, probably in part because the only other time I’ve ever heard that song, was when Lee sang it. :#

You were right up front? How awesome was it?

The difference is of course that tonight they all paid for their tickets.

That’s what I was about to say, Powter. The first one was free so naturally you would expect more people to be there.

I also wouldn’t write him off just because a smaller crowd showed up. 20K is still a great crowd.

  152. And I tried to listen to some of the videos – but I couldn’t hear anything over his screaming teenage power text voting fanbase. Good way to cover up any out of tune-ness ;-) From what I could hear though, it’s pretty obvious that he’s got co-writers for Only Dreaming. The chordal structure is much more complex than his own songs from pre-Idol – instrumentally it’s a pretty decent song. That said I don’t know how well it’d do on radio, because it’s just too slow, quiet, and boring, isn’t it?

  153. He’s not the first person to cowrite, nor will he be the last. If it helps him get on the radio and reach new fans, I’m all for it! I want people to actually hear his music. If they don’t like it, fine. But at least the music would be out there.

More importantly, I am so proud of him and the fans. I can only imagine how awesome it felt for him to be singing his PRE-IDOL songs and have people sing along. I think he’ll be on cloud 9 for awhile :)

  154. wjmtv Thanks for your recap!! Morphing.. a good word to describe Lee’s progress. He sure is maturing as an artist and I think we will see better and better as he learning his way around the music industry.

I’m old enough to be his mother and therefore resolutely refuse to view him as dreamy but damn, he’s got a beautiful smile.

:) I’m right there with you! But dang that kid’s voice just sings straight to the soul.

  155. I think over 20,000 is impressive. Isn’t that a bigger crowd than any of the idol live shows? I really am not sure about those facts. And from what I understand, Lee is first to actually have an event like this before he even released his single or album. And everyone was excited, and seemed to have a great time.

  156. wjmtv, love your recap! :D I was laughing so hard about your comment about the shrieking 9 year olds.

  157. I think over 20,000 is impressive. Isn’t that a bigger crowd than any of the idol live shows?

I’m pretty sure that’s bigger than any of those shows were, yeah. I don’t know if they made it much over 10,000 on any of those shows in fact – I think all 3 of the top 3 had better crowds at some point on their homecomings than they were getting on the tour.

As I said earlier, a lot of people would love to get 20,000 for a show. Adam Lambert isn’t getting that (he might if he was in bigger venues). There’s nothing wrong with such a crowd. I just honestly did expect to see that he’d get 40,000 again if that’s what he got before. Chicago is after all the 3rd most populated metropolitan area in the country isn’t it (over 3 million in the area)? I’m not positive, it might be #4 or #5 or something, but it’s right up there. If he drew that before, I just expected he would again. No snark intended by that – I really am surprised, and I really do think it’s not a good sign for him.

  158. Most of the other Idols would have given their eye teeth to have a crowd that big go see them this early in their career.

  159. I am thrilled with that number!20,339! OMG-all that and a gorgeous new song and a happy face tweet from Lee-so much goodness in one evening. And no rain.

  160. mozart4898 Yes, 20,000 is a smaller number than 40,000. What’s the fun in being a fantard if you can’t focus on the brightside? Especially considering this is his first solo concert. It’s kind of a big deal to us :)

  161. I’m very curious to hear who helped with “Only Dreaming,” because it sounded like pure Lee.

wjmtv, it sounds like pure Lee to me as well. He may have had some help with the arrangement but the lyrics sound just like him.

  162. Really, I shouldn’t have lost it and the Crystal comment was a low blow, so I removed it and I apologize, but you have to realize that this is just more of the same ole, same ole and it really does get frustrating after awhile.

But again, I’m sorry to everybody for helping to taint the thread.

  163. mozart4898 Yes, 20,000 is a smaller number than 40,000. What’s the fun in being a fantard if you can’t focus on the brightside? Especially considering this is his first solo concert. It’s kind of a big deal to us

I was expressing my surprise that he didn’t actually have more honestly. You’re right, it is a big deal and as I’ll say again a lot of people would love to have 20,000 for a show. Heck, Lee is probably still at the stage of just being glad that people showed up. It’s a good thing for any of them to remember playing to empty clubs and to realize just how lucky they are to be where they are.

What I heard of the new song? Like I said, it sounds interesting. Yeah I was being kinda snarky by saying that it was too quiet, subdued, and boring to be on the radio, but then I looked back and saw that others had said the same thing. However, it is more in the vein that I think Lee is best at – and personally I like songs that are along those lines. I remember having a discussion back around the AGT finale about how people don’t generally seem as excited by slow, quiet songs. I’d have to hear a better version of Only Dreaming – it might end up one of my more favorite songs that I’ve heard him do. I just simply couldn’t hear it that well in the recording.

  164. 20,339 is more than anyone could have imagined for a first solo concert. Fans are happy, Lee is happy. All ends well.

  165. OK. I need to take a deep breath! I need to chill! Don’t respond, don’t respond, don’t respond! Just breathe in, exhale, breathe in, exhale!
    OK, better now! :)

  166. Great crowd for his first post-idol concert. I am very impressed by Lee. He needs to release his album like now to rack up all the sales he can get. I wonder how much tickets were? Being from a major city does have it’s benefits. If his album is good he will do really well in the sales and he is the kind of artist that I think will cross over beyond the idol crowd with the right songs.

  167. Powter48 I didn’t even respond when you said about reading the guidelines because I didn’t intend to bring her into it at all. I didn’t come into the thread with the intent of talking about anyone else other than Lee – and I didn’t come here just to pile on about how awful he is. I know a lot of people won’t really believe it but I don’t want to hate Lee – at the same time I do have opinions and I come here to share them. As I’ve said, I do actually like some artists like him and if he made the right kind of music I could see liking some of it. Plus, the better he does, the better it makes that person that this thread isn’t about look. His failure doesn’t help anyone else from the season or any season honestly.

Yes, 20,000 is great, all things considered. The largest crowd I’ve ever sang for was…um I believe none, because I don’t really sing. Lol. And yes, they were all paying this time. Maybe he would have had more had it been better promoted. I don’t know.

  168. @lmkhemari-I’m asking,and Hoping-those are about my favorite writers,lately…

  169. I guess people expect artists to come out with a big bang. I love Only Dreaming but it’s not a big bang type of song that would get played on Top 40 without some adjustments. And I’m assuming he would like to be on Top 40 because he’s said he wants his music everywhere. We’ll see in a few weeks I’m sure :)

  170. Pre-concert, I was thinking 10,000 would be great, 15,000 would be amazing. So more than 20,000? I’m just so happy for Lee!

Thanks to all those who linked to vids, and thanks, wjmtv, for a very entertaining (and fast!) recap. I was particularly taken by the paragraph on “morphing”. I must admit that Lee initially became my favorite on Idol only because, well, I liked the others less. But the more I heard and hear(pre-Idol stuff, post-Idol, even the impromptu performances, and Only Dreaming as a taste of the album), the more I’m loving Lee music. (Actually odd because most of his stuff, esp. on the pre-Idol albums, is not the kind of music I normally like.) I’m not a music expert and I haven’t really analyzed why I like his music or voice, all I know is that I want to listen to him for a long, long time. I also think that he’s capable of great growth and that the best is yet to come! (So I really hope that the music market will give him a chance….)

  171. I guess people expect artists to come out with a big bang. I love Only Dreaming but it’s not a big bang type of song that would get played on Top 40 without some adjustments.

I’ll have to hear it when it’s actually in a studio version. It’s hard to say just off a live recording how it’ll end up. It does sound like the sort of song that if it was the first of someone I’d heard, I’d probably be intrigued. (That’s a good thing, by the way.) What works for me isn’t really what always works for most people though – so just because it might get my attention if I heard it on the radio doesn’t mean that many people would necessarily like it.

  172. Anyway, Mozart, a lot of us Lee fans like Crystal, too, and I have good wishes for all the singers from Season 9. They’ve received so much undeserved criticism, and I want them all to succeed.
Chicago has a huge music and theatre scene and people- the ones who can afford to spend money on tickets is this bad economy- have many other entertainment choices besides tonight’s concert. I’m amazed at this turnout.

  173. I had a friend at both the Homecoming show and tonight’s show. She told me that the setup was different and she doubted if 40,000 people would’ve even fit in the place tonight. Not necessarily saying that 40k would’ve gone if the setup was the same, but I do know that they opened up more seats than previously available within the last 10 days….. I’m guessing that’s because the demand was higher than expected.

But I’m pretty sure all those people there tonight were only there for the fireworks too huh? ;)

  174. Thank you all for posting all of the links to article and videos, I’m going to enjoy going through all of them.

I don’t really think there can be much conjecture made either way about the attendance. I do know that 20,000 is certainly one of the larger audiences for any solo headlining show from any Idol, regardless of market, venue or circumstance. I know it was a special case here but it still is what it is and I’m happy that many people were able to enjoy the show.

  175. jaybee we know that Espionage were involved, along with Cjaaude Kelly in a writing session a couple of weeks ago now, but no-one knows whether it was in a writing or producing capacity. And there have been lots of other writers!

So no-one knows as yet who the writers are on Only Dreaming. Pity!

  176. Only Dreaming

It’s really good to see your face
    It’s been too long
I count the hours every day
    Waiting for the nightfall
All that I can see is you and me
    Til the sun comes up
    And until it does
Close your eyes and fall asleep
I’ll be a secret only you can keep
Every time I see your smile
And I hold you once again

    By the way…
    I’m only dreaming
    I’m only dreaming

Remember when the sun would shine
    It’ll shine just for you
And now I have to close my eyes
    Always running from truth
And the reality’s catching up with me
And til it does try to wake you up
So close your eyes and fall asleep
And I’ll be, oh I’ll be, a secret ony you can keep
Every night I see your face
And I hold you once again

    By the way…
    I’m only dreaming
    Oh I’m only dreaming
    And I’m only dreaming

So close your eyes and fall asleep
I’ll be a secret only you can keep
Every night I see your smile
And I hold you once again

    By the way…
    I’m only dreaming

    Beautiful lyrics. :)

  177. I know Lee said it was one of his favorite songs they’ve done so far, I don’t remember if he said he wrote/cowrote. I’m kind of excited if it’s not the first single, because then we get more new songs before the album release :)

  178. The tour ended not even a month ago. The concert announced after that. Considering the lack of buzz, or advertising like you would get when top three were announced, ( Lee’s hometown really got behind him for that, and 30,000 tickets were given away in less than 15 minutes. Races over by 4 ish and concert at 7:30, so all were there for Lee.) This concert was fans and word of mouth mostly so 20,339 is a great crowd. Lee sounded great. We loved the new song. Most here would say that his pre-idol albums have no throw away songs, that when you listen, you like them all. Maybe Only Dreaming won’t get played on the radio, but it will get played on my iPod.

  179. Grrr I gotta get some sleep!! Thank you powter48, lovely lyrics.
Love you all, be back soon!

  180. Powter48, you nailed it. I can’t get enough of it already.

LOL Wish I could take the credit for it, but honestly, I got the lyrics from somebody else’s tweet. They did all the hard work.

    So impressed with this song.

  181. This concert is only 4 weeks after the Idol Tour concert in Chicago, anyone who wanted to see Lee would have already gone then. And although the tour tickets were high in price there were plenty of discounted tickets also. Attendance figures for the Chicago concert aren’t yet available but its likely this concert is double that.

Arlington Park was announced after the tour ended. As a repeat concert within a month even 5000 would have been great.

  182. I’m impressed with this song as well. And you get a high-five for posting it anyway!

  183. I have to go too. Thanks for everything. Its been a blast. See you guys.

  184. Imagine that. 20,339 people PAID to see Lee DeWyze tonight.

    So happy for him :)
And I really dig Only Dreaming, although I agree with those who don’t think that it is a good fit for POP or even HAC radio that play more upbeat songs. Excellent album track though that bodes well for the new album.

I am amazed that he was allowed to play songs from Sumberland and So I am Told, not that I am complaining…

OK. I need to take a deep breath! I need to chill! Don’t respond, don’t respond, don’t respond! Just breathe in, exhale, breathe in, exhale!
    OK, better now!

    Well done! LOL

Lee nailed it tonight and as his fan, I am so happy he showed the naysayers and negative nellies that he can bring it and be successful – 20k plus for his first official concert!!!! I am impressed and so pleased for Lee, but I always knew he was destined to be a successful artist. WOOHOO!
That someone would scoff at 20k attendance for any performer is just sour grapes! That’s why I use my scroller ;)

  186. Much as i really enjoyed Only Dreaming I also was really impressed with the Slumberland songs in concert – they sounded so so professional!!

I noticed one of the tweeting reporters wondering whose song So I’m Told was – she couldn’t remember who it was by! It just seemed as though she should know it!

  187. Imkhemari, I was impressed that so many people seemed to know his pre-idol songs well enough to sing along! His first concert draws 20,000 fans, that is beyond awesome!

  188. I know, me too! I’m so proud of him!

ETA, I bet RCA is pretty darn happy, too! CA-CHING!

  189. The singalongs to his Slumberland music really surprised me! In a good way!

I can’t quite make out all of what he says before he sings Only Dreaming but from what I can make out, he says that it’s his favorite song that he wrote on the album. I’m looking forward to seeing the writing credits.

  190. Dlynne, I hope you are right. If he wrote that song (or part of it), that will give him a lot of industry credibility.

  191. It is late and I can’t wait to find all the links and such tomorrow. One last thought, the design of the backdrop, perhaps a nod to the style of the album cover? I recall similar type cohesion with some other Idols. Just worth pondering… I do like how he took LJD and made it into a logo, very cool.

  192. I do like how he took LJD and made it into a logo, very cool.

tigervixxxen, thank you for telling me what that is. I’ve been wondering all night! lol I have no idea why I didn’t get it.

  193. I think Lee says before Only Dreaming “It’s one of my favorites that I’ve written actually ever” That doesn’t sound like he co-wrote.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43yT79ITvsE
Oh and to give proper credit, @leedewyzeintl tweeted those lyrics after she spent a lot of time working on them. So thanks to her!

  194. It was really nice to follow this show with you guys :D Thanks for posting all the links to the videos, pics and articles…I can see them easier here because my twitter feed has just been crazy today and I can’t keep up.

  195. 20k!! I am so happy for him :) That was more than double the amount I was expecting, so this is incredible! Not many performers can say that they had a 20k turnout for their first solo concert. Love love the new song, the lyrics are beautiful

  196. Just watching Kristen’s Only Dreaming – much the best version for audio and vid (see end of last page).

At the beginning what I’m hearing Lee saying is, indicating the band

“And these guys helped me make what it sounds like tonight … its one of my favorites that I’ve written, actually I’ve written a couple of songs…, so I hope you guys like it … its called Only Dreaming”.

    You might hear differently!

    At the end:

“That’s the first time I’ve played this song, ever … thanks for listening”

I wonder if Tim and Brandon are working on the album with him? Or perhaps they worked together on tour? Purely speculating!!

  197. Woke up to take a brief peek at what’s latest for the AP concert …
And boy am I really awake now!
First the 20K+ in attendance ( more than we could ever ever hope for)!!!
What a way for our boy to start his very first solo career. So proud and so very happy for him.

Wjmtv. Thank you for your recap.
Loved the way you walked us through the whole show through your detailed description and personal perspective of the songs. venue, set, musician…everything!

And to Kristen, thanks for sharing the HD versions or both Only Dreaming and Stay.
Not only is the video so clear but the sound quality is so clear too.
Damn, Lee sounded SO SOOO GOOD!!!!!!!

  198. If Lee DeWyze wrote Only Dreaming, then there is a bright future for him, if only simply as a song-writer. He might become the best song-writer to come out of Idol, it’s better than a lot of the album tracks I’ve heard from many established singer-songwriters.

It’s a good song, but as other said, not an obvious radio song, and I don’t see it as a big hit, so perhaps not as a first single, but possible as a later release only if he can get a couple of big hits first. I think the song might be a better fit for someone with a quieter voice.

Have to say it’s kinda amusing for anyone to disparage a 20K turn-out – the screwy perspective that is Idol fandom. Also have to say he should leave Beautiful Day out in the future. It’s not his kind of song, doesn’t really suit him.

  199. Just watched Stay again.
Thought this was his best live version of this song yet.
Loved that smile from @0.09 and loving the fans’ sing-a-long specially @ I HAVEN’T SLEPT YET!

  200. rivermaya, Yep, bad head all day but much better now, thank you. Actually its almost time for me to go to bed its 10pm here!

Hope by the time I come back we’ll have more of Kristen’s HD – she seems to be getting them up quicker this time! They’re wonderful quality.

Hazehel he’s a songwriter but I think there’s some things going to happen that might surprise people – there’s another Lee emerging – he just keeps growing in so many ways!

The night watch is retiring, catch you all in 8 hours or so!

  201. Alright, i know i’m SUPER LATE but i think im ready to post now. Just finished watching tonnes of videos and read all the comments here…and O M G, i’m beyond amazed. How does he keep getting better?!!

Lee was brilliant today/last night, he definitely brought his A-game b/c to me he sounded better than usual…and that is saying A LOT! Everything was so good- covers, pre-idol AND Only Dreaming!!

Nothing im gonna say is gonna be new or articulate but just need to get some thoughts out.
    – Walk Away was beautiful
    – SWN sounded so good (better than other live versions)
    – Rocketman sounds just as good mellow as it does rockin’
    – Use Somebody- i think this may be one of my favourite versions ever(and he sure has plenty)
    – Annabelle was just… wjmtv described it perfectly; there was something srsly magic going on when he sang that. His voice sounded incredible on it.
    – BD/FF- i love Lee’s ‘mashups’! this was genius..i lovvved. Officially one of my fav versions of BD he’s sung as well (and there’s plenty of those too) I think it may have surpassed the AccessHollywood one for me. On a sidenote- i too loved the “im a baaad boy”. Man, crowd went insane after that line!
    – Only Dreaming was gorgeous! the lyrics are srsly to die for and heart-melting worthy. It does sound like a solo-write and very ‘Lee’; tender, acoustic Lee. I have yet to check out Kristen’s HD video of it b/c i kinda just jumped over here to post after watching her Stay video which left me misty-eyed. Although, i do think a more upbeat song as the 1st single would be a better move, sales wise.
-Hallelujah- well when Lee sings this, it’s basically always epic
    – CIM- loved it although i only caught a small portion
    – STAY was incredible! I think Kristen’s HD video killed me. I loved his crowd interaction the whole night and how they all sang along even to his pre-idol songs. That had to be an uber surreal feeling- he just points at the crowd and they sings the lyrics that HE wrote! Esp when he says “this one” and everyone yelled “i havent slep yet” And, he got emotional here too which i love seeing!
    – The Boxer and SIT- havent seen a decent quality versions yet but heard he broke down a little! awww

He was so immersed in the music…..i’m not sure he’ll ever cease to amaze me!
Also, that backdrop was super cool..LJD logo- it looks so pro; hoping its on the album cover!
Oh yeh, and how awesome was the bass player behind him (i think Brandon?), he looked soooo happy. that made me smile!

Huge thnx to wjmtv for your recap, ldjfan for your tweets, MJ for the thread and everyone else here for posting- your comments were a super enjoyable read (well MOST of them…haha. i’ll refrain, although i must say it did take a lot of effort to do so)!

    oh and HOLY COW! 20,000+!!!
so i guess we’re migrating to this thread now?! also, do i spot new-comers?! I’ve been seeing some unfamiliar names- WELCOME GUYS!

    – there’s another Lee emerging – he just keeps growing in so many ways!

–he’s morphing into something he’s never been before.

    aaand, im done for now.

  202. Imkhemari::he’s a songwriter but I think there’s some things going to happen that might surprise people – there’s another Lee emerging – he just keeps growing in so many ways!

Lee’s growth as an artist and song-writer from So I’m Told to Slumberland is already tremendous. . Really tremendous.
He grew more as a performer throughout AI and the AI tour. If anything, that experience grew his confidence on a national scale.
I could not even begin to imagine what his forthcoming album will be like. But if his recent performance and his new song is any indication, I daresay it’s going to be even better.
Hell, I’ll even say it’s scary to think about how really good it’s gonna be.
WJMTV said it best that Lee is “morphing”.
And Yes I agree, we are all in for a surprise.

  203. Wow, I had to catch up on 2 pages of reading here. I’m headed to soccer game so I just read them briefly. I will come back later and check out videos. Hopefully only the Lee fans will continue to post here (you all know what I mean). Talk to you all later!

  204. Wow! just wow! the videos, the songs, Lee’s whole vibe here is great. I just watched Stay and Only Dreaming. He is so back in his element sitting on a stool with guitar in hand singing his own songs, songs he chooses to cover, people singing along to HIS songs. I thought the base, guitars and keyboard were perfect and really show cased his voice.

Thanks for the video links. Can’t wait to hear/see the Annabelle video.

20k at his first paid solo show post idol is beyond amazing. Lee has been back in the chicago area to perform three times in the past what, 4 months? Say what you will but Lee’s got tons of fans man and many hard core fans at that.

  205. It’s a good song, but as other said, not an obvious radio song, and I don’t see it as a big hit, so perhaps not as a first single,

I’d be shocked if “Only Dreaming” were his first single. It’s beautifuly, but too ballady without an obvious hook.

  206. I just watched Kristen’s video of Stay. Great work girl, thank you so much. That song was the highlight of my night. It made me so happy to hear all the fans singing along with Lee. You can see how much he is savoring the moment himself and he looks so happy. Did you notice all the shouts of “Love you Lee” towards the end? I was there and I honestly felt the admiration and love for this guy in the air. It was so touching. And his voice, I don’t have the right words. Great, fantastic, just don’t cover it. Love the way he sang the last “dear” at the end. I was crying during this last night and now, I’m am again. Lee is going to be, dare I say, a superstar. Or at least he deserves to be. Gotta go find a tissue!

  207. 20,339? Take that Ken Warwick! A lot of goodness can come out of “hiding behind a guitar.”
I loved the expressions on the faces of all three guys during “Stay.” So happy for Lee.

  208. Imkhemari:

Just watching Kristen’s Only Dreaming – much the best version for audio and vid (see end of last page).

    At the end:

“That’s the first time I’ve played this song, ever … thanks for listening.”

I’m probably reading too much into this, but that last line really squeezes my heart. “Thanks for listening.” 20,000 people actually paid to come and see him perform, they knew the lyrics to the songs he wrote years ago for a little indie label, and he says, “Thanks for listening.” No wonder people love him.

And I can’t believe I forgot to mention this last night–it was one of my favorite moments. Right before he pulled out his cellphone at the end, when he was talking to the crowd (I haven’t watched the vids yet so I don’t know if it was caught on camera) he was sort of leaning over the stool to talk into the microphone, saying his last goodbye. Then he stepped in front of the mic a little and the crowd went nuts, and he almost sorta bowed. Not exactly. More like a little bob. Like he felt he should, but hadn’t yet earned the right.

Again, probably reading too much into it, but it said a lot to me about the sort of person he is.

  209. Disclaimer: I wasn’t a Lee fan on AI but I’m always interested in the new music from people coming out of AI.

I just watched a video of the new song Only Dreaming. It’s got a pretty melody but the lyrics seem pretty cliche to me. It’s not a terrible song, just not a very good or a very original one. The whole dream/sun rising up/night falling stuff is stuff you’ve heard a million times before and I’ve definitely heard a lot of “missing you” type road songs that moved me more. BUT on the bright side it’s the right style for Lee and he sang it pretty well. It’d be a good interlude on his album maybe.

  210. I just watched the vid for Stay and cried. I’m so happy for him. He is truly a special person.

  211. It’s funny because the audience sang the most to his Slumberland songs rather than the covers. Just shows you that alot of people bought his pre-idol music.

  212. “Only Dreaming” is truly a beautiful song! Glad I got a chance to hear it. If nothing else, it has me looking forward to his album.

  213. Beautiful Day just killed me. I have no words to describe how talented Lee really is. Isn’t that to die for the way he sings the line “I’m a baaaad boy~”? so dang sexy! I love this chill relaxed yet almost heart-aching version so much. This version is the best for me.

  214. I’m loving Beautiful Day/ Free Falling- I always thought that he should cover Free Falling.
I love Only Dreaming so much-his lyrics are gorgeous and so him-if I heard someone else singing it I would still know who wrote it, because I’ve listened to his pre-Idol music so often.

  215. Thank you’s too Mj for the concert thread, WJmtv for the wonderful recap, Nabs and Imkhemar for helping getting this thread going!

THank you Lee for an amazing concert! Only dreaming is beautiful, Nov cant get here soon enough!!

20,000+ amazing crowd for first solo outing! Looking forward to solo tour!

ETA: Thank you kristen8110 and others for all the videos!

  216. I actually wish he sang more of his pre-idol songs. I would have loved to hear Flower Child and also Never There.

  217. Yet another video of “Only Dreaming”. This one is from the meet and greet that occurred before the concert. Fan made this from her mobile phone. Good picture but the sound is somewhat distorted. The interesting thing about this version is that it is completely acoustic, no backup, just Lee and his guitar.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJqimUdHvqk

  218. Watched the video of Beautiful because of all the fan raves here (not a Lee fan or too much of a fan of anyone from S9- probably Casey the most I guess). Was interested to see what his original stuff would sound like.

It wasn’t bad, but the lyrics were clique and music so so, not enough to make me curious about the rest of the album. Pretty much what I expected from him, just ok dawg.

He had a good turnout from his hometown, great to see that support.

It will be very interesting to see what kind of sales he has come November.

  219. I actually wish he sang more of his pre-idol songs. I would have loved to hear Flower Child and also Never There.

kvwicks ITA. I would have killed to hear “Never There.”

    Oh well maybe next time.

  220. Did anyone get video of Annabelle? I looked back through this thread but I didn’t see anyting.

  221. It wasn’t bad, but the lyrics were clique and music so so, not enough to make me curious about the rest of the album. Pretty much what I expected from him, just ok dawg.

Music is subjective. You either like certain things or you don’t. I loved his new song and I think the lyrics are wonderful. You don’t. I’m sure there’s plenty of songs by your favorite artists that I wouldn’t care for. It’s purely subjective and all good.

    Have a nice day. :)

  222. I thought maybe I would be more articulate after getting some sleep, but that didn’t happen lol. I guess the only thing I can say coherently is that I am so ecstatic and proud to be a fan for many years to come.

  223. I’d be shocked if “Only Dreaming” were his first single. It’s beautifuly, but too ballady without an obvious hook.

It’d be nice if we lived in a world where a song like “Only Dreaming” could be played on the radio and become a big hit. But we don’t, not anymore anyway. We once did though, if this were the 1970’s it would be a different story, radio was riddled with songs like OD back then. But alas, it’s 2010 and radio has changed so much in the last 30 to 40 years, and not IMO, for the better.

Still a beautiful song in any case.

  224. Thanks Jennyl, you weren’t exaggerating, the audio was pretty bad. Hopefully Kristen or someone else caught it on video.

I’m pretty sure Lee’s first single will be more upbeat and catchy.
He said in some of his interviews that the album will be a mix of alot of different kinds of music. That’s what makes an album interesting, you want to hear different things, slow, fast, soulful, rock etc.

  225. Just finished reading all 382 responses and agree with most everything everyone has said…..WOW to over 20,000K….WOW to “Only Dreaming”…..Lee must be on Cloud 9 still! Off to watch some vids that you’ve all posted:)

  226. I just put mp4 of only dreaming and BD/FF into my ipod. I know I’ll be watching and listening this over and over until I get the new Lee music.

  227. You know what’s really cool? Lee has told us a number of times that he has written on every song on his album to date. So that means that regardless of whichever single is picked to be his first one, he will have played a hand in writing it. And that’s more than some Idols have been able to say. :)

  228. You know what else is really cool? There was something sublte going on last night, and if you look closely and listen closely you will see it, too. Last night we saw a “STAR” being born.

  229. Been waiting for this and finally…..
    ANNABELLE !!!!
I think I held my breath throughout the whole song.
Lee did great great great on this song. He is soooo into it.
Chills and goosebumps aren’t enough to describe how I felt while listening.
I swear I heard him sing ” …if you talk to me, I SWEAR TO GOD, I’ll talk to you….” at around 2:59
ETA: Kristen – thank you thank you thank you.

  230. If Lee does get a cowrite for his first single I predict there will be major fanwar eruption heh.

  231. so any previous AI contestants had first solo concert at this kind of scale before even the first single came out? It seems they’re doing something different with Lee. If the song is good enough to serve it’s purpose they’re going to choose it as the first single, based on quality of the song NOT based on how big fanbases or buzz.

  232. I think I held my breath throughout the whole song.
Lee did great great great on this song. He is soooo into it.

Same here and yes, he does sing that line! OMG, really, I’m almost speechless! I have always loved that song, but that was absolutely STUNNING!

  233. I think that RCA is in a position to do something different for Lee and Crystal since they will be the last AI contestants that they will be representing. So you never know. Plus Lee is a great song writer.

  234. Been waiting for this and finally…..

    ETA: nevermind, found one.

Will be? I think it’s already started. ;)

  236. Powter48 thanks for finding Kristen’s Annabelle video. Her video camera takes amazing video so crystal clear. Annabelle is probably my favorite Lee song. Lee sounded very soulful! Loved it!

  237. Kvwicks, you’re welcome, glad I could help. Lee sounds amazing on this version of Annebelle. Everytime I think he’s done impressing me, he goes and does it again. I literally can’t get enough of him.

Has anybody found a link to the “The Boxer” and “So I’m Told” performances from last night yet? I think those are the only ones we still haven’t gotten yet.

  238. Congrats Lee and his fans. The first post idol concert is so special. I think fans (and nonfans) worry far too much about singles that idols cowrite. Just hope that the single gets radio play, whomever has written it. Everything depends on radio play. And generally the people who download iTunes could care less about who wrote the song.

  239. And…de-lurking. Thanks MJ for putting this thread up for Lee’s first concert! 20k is an incredible turnout for 45 min of a one guy singing, and I’m really happy Lee could feel the love from his hometown(s) for his first concert.

Regarding co-writes on the first single, I agree it’s too soon to say for sure what will happen, but at least things look promising. Both Kris and David’s singles dropped right around now, so I would think if RCA/19 had a pre-written single in the can for Lee, it would be a finished product and ready to be pushed to radio. He did state in an interview (yesterday, I believe) that he had written on everything. I agree that the lack of buzz, which will likely translate to low short-term album sales, and the terminated relationship between 19 and RCA for future contestants, make predicting how exactly they’re going to go about selling Lee a little murky. Still, the fact that he had top-notch musicians from the tour backing him up last night suggests that he still had 19’s support.

  240. I’m surprised that Lee’s concert is getting as many comments as Adam’s concerts (on this blog). Plus 20K is a nice sized crowd. Hopefully that means that Lee actually has a decent sized fanbase and can sell some albums.

  241. That version of Use Somebody was amazing! I know I keep saying this but Kristen’s videos are so clear. Kristen thanks again!

  242. Annabelle is fabulous! Thank you for posting and filming all the songs – I appreciate everyone’s efforts to provide for us Lee fans. What a great, great night for Lee! :)

  243. I’m still in shock to see so many Lee fans. ;)

I thought his first single was dropping in September? That looks like it’s not happening. Anyone know what the new date is?

  244. From Lee on Twitter – his vid:
Thank you guys so much!!! http://yfrog.us/nd92rz
41 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone

And last night was awesome, thank you again. Back to the studio!! :)
35 minutes ago via mobile web

Vid is blurred but shows the love!!!

  245. I thought his first single was dropping in September? That looks like it’s not happening. Anyone know what the new date is?

Lee doesn’t even seem to know yet. Last time somebody asked him, he said they were still deciding.

  246. Well, jpfan, someone (not a Lee fan) mentioned in a post a few days ago that Adam and Lee were rated the two most polarizing idols. I guess polarizing Idols have passionate fans. They sure seemed passionate at AP last night.

  247. and Kristen8108

So glad my Lee videos uploaded quickly. I have 3 more I’ll set to upload overnight once I’m back at my laptop.

That will make 9 HD videos out of the 12? Kristen you spoil us!

  248. Well, jpfan, someone (not a Lee fan) mentioned in a post a few days ago that Adam and Lee were rated the two most polarizing idols.

Maybe they’re the most polarizing of the past two years, but I’ve been here to see plenty of polarizing Idols. ;) Obviously, Lee has plenty of fans or he wouldn’t have won. It’s just that the S9 Idol tour didn’t seem to generate much buzz. I hope 19 gives Lee some decent pomotion because the fact that he’s with RCA and the franchise has moved to Universal kinda complicates things.

  249. We don’t know anything about what the move from Sony to Universal is going to mean, if anything, for anyone signed to a Sony label. The fact is though that 19 is still involved and they are all still signed to 19 Recordings as well. 19 may also still manage Lee, we have not heard anything on the contrary.

The HD videos are lovely, I’m enjoying them all!

  250. I wonder with the tour – the numbers attending may have been down but I had the impression that the focus of a lot of those attending was Lee, also though there weren’t many tweeters here on the liveblog most of them were Lee supporters. It’s only an impression, but it might mean we have no real idea how big the fanbase is. Things are very odd this year!

So far 19 seem to be doing all right with promotion, this concert being an example. They do seem to be taking a different track than usual. Let’s hope it continues.

Regarding the single there’s rumors there may be a major name co-write still to come, and they would be waiting on that. 10 days ago RCA said the decision on the single was a few weeks off, so things could be happening very soon!

We can only wait and see! In the meantime let’s enjoy the buzz of the first solo concert! Good omens for things to come.

  251. I’d be shocked if “Only Dreaming” were his first single. It’s beautifuly, but too ballady without an obvious hook.

MJ, but it’s an earworm! I can’t get it out of my head! Not that I really want to…

That said, I do agree. I want his first single to be commercially successful and it needs to be uptempo with a great hook.

I feel like Only Dreaming is a gift to us…his fans.

  252. kvwicks13 Kristen said she would be filming all the pre idol songs so I’m hoping So I’m Told will be in the 3 that she’s uploading tonight!

  253. Commenting on the number of Lee fans in this thread? Not the topic.

Peeps wandering in here for the first time might want to refer to my post on the first page.

  254. I’m looking forward to the ArlingtonLive videos – with the audio from the mike they should be so much clearer – not so much crowd noise.

It might be days – or weeks! – or months!! – before they emerge, though.

  255. I’m looking forward to the ArlingtonLive videos – with the audio from the mike they should be so much clearer – not so much crowd noise.

It might be days – or weeks! – or months!! – before they emerge, though.

    Looking forward to those aswell!

  256. I’m looking forward to the ArlingtonLive videos – with the audio from the mike they should be so much clearer – not so much crowd noise.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Arlington released a CD of this concert? Or made a DVD available like they did for his homecoming one? I know I’d buy it.

Still can’t get enough of “Only Dreaming.”

  257. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Arlington released a CD of this concert? Or made a DVD available like they did for his homecoming one? I know I’d buy it

Can you post a link where to get the May homecoming DVD? Is it from the Arlingtonlive site where they had all those photos of the May homecoming?

I’ll probably just keep an eye on Youtube, its harder to get DVD’s etc overseas, but I can at least watch the videos!

ETA Just realised you’re talking about the DVD of the whole homecoming, not just the Arlington concert!

  258. I’ve been thinking about Only Dreaming for a while now, doesn’t hurt that it is stuck in my head! The lyrics remind me a bit of Dreaming Alone, which is one of my favorites from So I’m Told. The style and vibe of the song reminds be a bit of Walk Away. I’m usually pretty bad at deconstructing/discussing songs but that is where my thoughts on it now are. Still loving the song, I’m so glad that Lee shared it with us.

  259. I finally got to watch the video of “Only Dreaming.” I didn’t know he had a little trouble announcing the title of the song. I guess it really was a big deal for him. :)

(That one lady on the audio who kept harping about somebody pushing her was hilarious. If you don’t want your space invaded, get a seat up in the nosebleeds where you can sit in a comfy chair! ;) )

  260. I loved his smile after he announced the title. Maybe the little critic inside him was expecting people to boo or something :)

I have a few thoughts on Only Dreaming. For me anyway, I focus on the melody and the instrumentation. It’s so beautiful to my ears. The lyrics by themselves are pretty but they really don’t come to life without Lee performing them. He just closes his eyes and sings from his soul. I love the idea of this song being a gift for the fans, Dlynne. He’ll be our secret lol :)

  261. I watched several of the videos and I still don’t get what Lee’s hard-core fans see in him. I can handle his performances for about 10 minutes before I get bored (my 12-year old and 20-year old daughters felt the same way during his set at the Minneapolis AI concert. They felt that Siobhan and Aaron were far more entertaining). I wish him luck, though.

  262. Lee’s already back in the studio in LA. Maybe that’s why he writes so many yearning songs about sleeping and dreaming-he never has time to do either.

  263. Me too, cristististi. Of the music trifecta: lyrics, melody and performance, lyrics are the least important to me. As an English major, I’ll probably get my degree taken away for saying that, but there it is. Inane lyrics make for great songs all the time. Rolling Stone’s list of the greatest rock songs has “Satisfaction” at #2:

    I can’t get no satisfaction.
Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
    I can’t get no
    I can’t get no…

Yeah. That’s some real poetry. But put some driving guitars behind it and get Mick to sing, and yowza. Pretty awesome.

chili1000 It’s probably the singer-songwriter thing. The folks who pursue that genre aren’t known for swinging trapeezes and fire & brimestone. They’re a bit on the mellow side. And a lot of people like that. One man’s boring is another man’s cool.

  264. I still don’t get what Lee’s hard-core fans see in him

    .

Well, the Lee fans on this thread do get him. We see a talented guy who is a passionate, soulful and emotional singer. He also has written some amazing songs. We are die-hard Lee fans!

  265. I loved his smile after he announced the title. Maybe the little critic inside him was expecting people to boo or something :)

Or he was waiting for the laughter when people heard it was another dreaming/sleep song! :) I too think the song was a gift to his fans. Maybe his way of saying thanks for the support of the pre-Idol stuff.

chilli1000, It’s all good if people don’t get Lee. I don’t get artists that do bigger stage productions. I don’t like loud all over the place entertainment. I don’t care for most of Top 40 pop stuff. My taste run toward more intimate settings, softer music and vocals.

  266. There are a lot of artists I don’t “get” so there is always something out there for everyone. For me it starts with Lee’s voice. I love distinctive gravelly voices and my musical favorites are littered with them. I’m also not a lyrics first person, my brain just doesn’t focus on that on first or tenth listen. However, I enjoy everyone’s interpretation of songs and I enjoy exploring lyrics in a discussion and many times it helps me appreciate a song more. For me it is the mix of a vocal and a beat/vibe to the song that hooks me.

  267. I don’t get artists that do bigger stage productions. I don’t like loud all over the place entertainment. I don’t care for most of Top 40 pop stuff. My taste run toward more intimate settings, softer music and vocals.

Totally agree, bigger is not always better. Just Lee and a guitar is also I need.

  268. kvwicks13 :We are die-hard Lee fans!

We are die-hard fans because Lee is absolutely to die for !

  269. My taste in music is eclectic. I love a big, over the top stage show; I also love an intimate concert, just a guy or girl (any color!) with a guitar.I love many music genres. What my favorite singers have in common, besides gorgeous voices, is passion and intensity.Lee’s voice is just so rough and sexy and I’m going to stop now and keep this comment family friendly.

  270. I’ve been switching between the Annabelle and Only Dreaming video every chance I get.
Annabelle is still my favorite from his performance last night.
Only Dreaming does have a very soothing & almost emotion-wrenching feel to it.
Just random thoughts : It might not be a “big” song for a first single but it definitely can be the Perfect Soundtrack for the Perfect love-story movie.
ETA : I am digging the guy behind him on Only Dreaming. Anyone know who he is?
(just watch him get into the music with Lee at about 1:26, 2:00 & 3:26)
    * sorry I got a bit off-topic from your music discussion :)

  271. Just random thoughts : It might not be a “big” song for his first single but it definitely can be the Perfect Soundtrack for the Perfect love-story movie.
ETA : I am digging the guy behind him on Only Dreaming. Anyone know who he is?

The bassist is Brandon Brown, he is the one right behind Lee.

I had the same thoughts about Only Dreaming, man that would be a good song for love-story soundtrack!

  272. artemis:

Same here. Even though I have more jazz than anything on my iPod, I’ve worn out Adam’s “Fever.” That song is all kinds of awesome. What I listen to depends on my mood and/or what I’m doing.

And I hear ya on the “intensity” bit. In the spirit of *continuing* to keep things family-friendly, I will also stop while I’m ahead.

    rivermaya:

ETA : I am digging the guy behind him on Only Dreaming. Anyone know who he is?

Do you mean BtHB? He’s pretty smokin’. :)

  273. rivermaya That’s Brendon the bassist from the Tour band! He and Tim Stewart are pretty good musicians, i wonder if they’re playing on Lee’s album?

I think Lee is used to playing with top class musicians, what with Louis Svitek in his original band!

Wonder too, with Lee’s ability to interact/collaborate with people that a looser sort of band might be better – musicians that could have input – a kind of a jam band rather than a backing band? (Hope I’ve got my terms correct, I’m a bit new to this!)

ETA I can imagine Only Dreaming becoming a classic – it speaks of long summer twilights, a boy, a girl – a soundtrack sounds a good way for it to be known – rather like Falling Slowly?

  274. Thanks . BTW , pardon for my ignorance, but what does BtHB stand for?

  275. jennyl:

I think Brandon the Hot Bassist:)

    TM: Me. ;)

If you don’t believe me, find the Late Night Sandwich from St Louis (Part I, if memory serves). He’s sitting next to Andrew, and looks even yummier than all that amazing food.

  276. Thanks jennyl. learning the linggo here.
BtHB playing for Lee the WGWG :)

Seriously, I hope Lee finds a good band – one that dig his music and is in sync with his style.
So much fun to watch when they all jam/perform cohesively ( is this the right word? )

  277. Yes, rivermaya. There was definitely some jamming going on last night. Especially in the first few bars of Annabelle, while Lee was hitting the bottle and getting ready to sit down. Too, too cool.

  278. Is that the one where the band all talk about what they’re doing after the idol tour? I vaguely remember Brendon doing some teaching?

  279. kvwicks13 :We are die-hard Lee fans!

    Whoo! :D

My favorite’s still BD/FF. His intensity in that song makes me really happy. Crash Into Me surprised me because of how different it sounded. The only word I can think of is mellow, and maybe quirky? I don’t know. Very DMB, which makes sense since it’s a DMB song and Lee’s influenced by them. Maybe someone else can describe it better than me :)

  280. So does Tim and BtHB work for RCA or 19?
Or are they both independent musicians?

  281. wjmtv :There was definitely some jamming going on last night.

    My kind of concert!

  282. I think they’re probably session musicians, which means they freelance. But that’s just a guess, based on my vast knowledge of the music industry (yeah, right).

  283. If the money’s good enough, I don’t think there’s any reason why they couldn’t. I certainly wouldn’t complain.

  284. Just random thoughts : It might not be a “big” song for a first single but it definitely can be the Perfect Soundtrack for the Perfect love-story movie.

I thought the very same thing!

  285. I noticed the twitter growth accelerating, too- maybe people who were at the concert? Just wait until he has a song on the radio!

OK-I just looked at some of his new followers-people from all over the country and from the Phillipines and Malaysia-word really must be spreading!

  286. Yes. I notice each time he makes a public appearance his twitter followers will grow. Wonder when the next one will be.

  287. Just wait until he has a song on the radio!

That’s all it takes. A really good , strong and ear-catching single.

Lee might not get a lot of buzz off the internet or celebrity news, etc.
But his fanbase is growing through twitter, facebook and even youtube.
Watch the Crash Into Me youtube by Kristen – there was this gal that just accidentally searched for CIM and saw Lee’s performance and boy does her comments scare me ( you’ve got to read it to know what I mean).

  288. It’s more than the Teen Choice Awards jump, but less than the week he was on the View and the early Twitter parties! This might keep going for a few days as word spreads!

    ETA Worldwide? – great!!!!
Also wonder if its a reaction to Only Dreaming as a taste of the new album!

  289. Watch the Crash Into Me youtube by Kristen – there was this gal just accidentally searched for CIM and saw Lee’s performance and boy does her comments scare me ( you’ve got to read it to know what I mean).

Oh wow that was interesting lol!

  290. Content to lurk most of the time, but just have to share my thoughts on a couple of songs (well, must admit I’ve been peeking at this thread every few minutes since yesterday, lol).

On Only Dreaming – music and lyrics are both important to me, so I’m one of those who think that the lyrics border on trite. What I like about this song though is the lovely melody that got me on the first line. Even with the simple words, the melody and Lee’s way of singing make for a poignant song that I can imagine singing in times of heartbreak (way past those times, but still. :-)). Like a sibling to Dreaming Alone as someone mentioned. And yes, can definitely imagine it in a soundtrack. Whether or not it will do well on radio is of course something else. I’m just happy because as a first glimpse of what’s going to be on the album, it’s good! Just hoping it won’t fall victim to over-production…

Still on lyrics, I may be in the minority of Lee fans in that I like a greater number of songs from So I’m Told (compared to Slumberland), because the lyrics on several of his songs there are brilliant, IMO.

Though I’ve recently come to appreciate the lyrics of Annabelle. Speaking of which! Annabelle is my favorite of his pre-Idol songs, vocals-wise. And he kicks it up several notches in this performance, nice! I’ve long wondered about why I like his singing so much, and I guess I’ll just have to admit, as others have said, that it’s simply because it’s sexy, :-), and it’s best shown in performances like this one.

  291. That comment on the Crash vid warmed my heart! New fans are created every day in the craziest ways! :)

  292. Love the comment…excellent find.

almitra, thanks for delurking and sharing your thoughts. I’m the one who mentioned Dreaming Alone, I’m glad I wasn’t alone in making that association. Lee’s voice is sexy ;) but also very versatile. I love how he always changes up his performances. I don’t think he’s ever done Anabelle in the same way twice.

  293. Hi, tigervixxxen! yes, though a lot of his songs are actually in this vein, those two really seem to have the same vibe, it’s just that Dreaming Alone is sadder..

Speaking of sexy, I just watched Crash into You – that too, lol!

Haven’t seen a lot of Annabelle vids, will have to look those up..

  294. Found this just now

    deWyze_beLEEver

guys..lee deWyze is on the top tweet today..WOW!!..spread the news!!!
about 1 hour ago via web

ETA Not quite sure what this means but it sounds impressive!

  295. I may be in the minority of Lee fans in that I like a greater number of songs from So I’m Told (compared to Slumberland), because the lyrics on several of his songs there are brilliant, IMO.

Almitra, I would agree with you that the lyrics on So I’m Told are overall superior to those on Slumberland. I think that Lee was much more rushed during the recording of Slumberland (he was about to leave for LA to do Idol) and therefore, he simply didn’t have the same amount of time to compose the same level of lyrics for the songs on that album, which I still love regardless.

BTW, as a lover of the So I’m Told album, what do think of the song and the lyrics to “The Problem Is You?” I personally feel it’s one of Lee’s most underrated songs on either one of his albums. I love the melody and the lyrics to that one.

    Welcome by the way!

  296. Wonder too, with Lee’s ability to interact/collaborate with people that a looser sort of band might be better – musicians that could have input – a kind of a jam band rather than a backing band? (Hope I’ve got my terms correct, I’m a bit new to this!)

You’ve got it right. I think they almost have to be a jam band, maybe in addition to being a backing band, because Lee never sings a song the same way twice. I bet they got used to him on the tour. They sure sounded great last night.

  297. Thanks, Powter48.! I agree, “The Problem is You” is so pretty, and it’s among my 4 – 5 favorite songs on SIT. (Imagination is my absolute favorite.)

BTW, while I like more songs on SIT, I love Slumberland too, esp. the idea of a concept album. Or I guess I just like everything he sings, lol!

  298. Almitra, Imagination is also my favorite song from SIT. It’s funny because I don’t hear many people mention it but I absolutely love it. I also really like Predicament, and I don’t hear much mention of that song.

  299. Here is a link to a twitlonger that DweezySignal put together of Lee’s ENTIRE set list from Friday night’s show, and links to the videos for all of them, including “The Boxer” and “So I’m Told,” although the sound on the former is very low and the sound on the latter is not very good and is hard to hear. Nevertheless, these are the only two videos of these last 2 songs I”ve been able to find so far.

    Anyway, here’s the link:

    http://www.twitlonger.com/show/674t3q

  300. I really like predicament too, I loved the video of it. When I first heard it I was thinking he sounded like John Mayer and “Waiting on the World to Change”. Message songs. Like Calling All Angels, by Train, which I think Lee would sound great singing.

  301. Yes, the video for Predicament is cool. He looks so different with the short buzzed hair. He still looks cute! And yes, he sometimes reminds me of John Mayer and also Dave Matthews.

  302. My favorites from SIT include Imagination, Love and Misery, The Problem is You, and Predicament, but my absolute favorite is So I’m Told. Whenever I play it, I play it again.
He does look cute in that video, but I like his hair better the way it is now.

  303. Artemis, I also really like Love and Misery. I like when he sings SO I’m Told live better than on the CD. Hearing it on the CD doesn’t do it justice to seeing him perform it live. He puts so much emotion into it.

  304. Powter48. Thanks for the links. Downloading the vids now. Its late. Will look at them tommorrow.

  305. Finally caught up! Love everyone’s comments about the concert. My brain doesn’t process as fast as the rest of you, I guess. I’m still finding myself a bit speechless. I’m just so proud of him. I loved every second of it.

  306. I searched for everything-Lee when he got me in hollywood weeks’ You Found Me then Chasing Cars. The Predicament video was the one that led me to all his pre-idol work.
Lee has that “bad-ass” look in predicament and here you go week by week watching the almost naive- nerve-looking kid on TV……..
I do like his hair now BTW.
Does anyone know who the gal is singing in the background of The Problem Is You?

almitra…here is the version of Annabelle that I really like on youtube.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRnYGJm8NJk

  307. I love all the different versions Lee does of his pre-idol songs but the ones he did at Arlington are my favorites. I guess it’s because the backing music brought an interesting, exotic flavor.

I love his hair! Heh. It’s pretty and poofy.

And to the person who uploaded all the HD vids, thank you so much! :)

  308. Annabelle is my very favorite original he does and AP my favorite performance of it-he is so bluesey and rough-I love the way he is always changing it up.

  309. Thanks, rivermaya! And powter48 for the link to the list of concert vids.

kvwicks13, aprilfoolish, artemis…from SIT, I also really like Love and Misery and Predicament. I think Predicament was also my first exposure to Lee’s pre-Idol work.

Like kvwicks13, I prefer the song So I’m Told live (more because of the tempo; there’s a Huddle version, IIRC, that has a faster tempo than the recorded version). But just before I logged on here, So I’m Told album version came on in my playlist, and it just sounded so poignant…I guess I’m still feeling for Lee on this homecoming.

  310. Does anyone know who the gal is

singing in the background of The Problem Is You

rivermaya….her name is Julie Frost according to Ryan. My favorite from So I’m Told is Dreaming Alone which probably explains why I really love Only Dreaming. Honestly, I love everything Lee sings because I’m in love with his voice…plain and simple :)

Thanks to everyone for all the great video links to the AP concert!

  311. I love all the songs everyone is mentioning from So I’m Told, as well. Imagination and Love and Misery are my favorites! I love All Right and Red Rover, too.

  312. My favorites from SIT are Red Rover, So I’m Told, and A Song I Wrote for You. But they change everytime. Sometimes I go back and listen to a song and I get something new out of it. I feel that his songs can keep reinventing themselves, there’s just so much to them.

  313. That’s all it takes. A really good , strong and ear-catching single.

Lee might not get a lot of buzz off the internet or celebrity news, etc.
But his fanbase is growing through twitter, facebook and even youtube.
Watch the Crash Into Me youtube by Kristen – there was this gal that just accidentally searched for CIM and saw Lee’s performance and boy does her comments scare me ( you’ve got to read it to know what I mean).

okay….if that’s the reaction of a non-AI viewer then I would say…did she like his voice?? LOL!

  314. I’d say so, she said he was like John Mayer but better. lol

My favorites from SIT are Dreaming Alone and Predicament but they are all very good. I love listening to DA on headphones, it really sets the mood somehow.

  315. I found an acoustic live version of Another Sleep Song somewhere which someone downloaded into an MP3 from an older thread. It is really good. I have his album version also but somehow the live version just sounds so much better!

  316. rivermaya:

Lee has that “bad-ass” look in predicament and here you go week by week watching the almost naive- nerve-looking kid on TV……..
I do like his hair now BTW.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who got a “bad-ass” vibe off of him at that time in his life. I found a vid of his band performing “Simple Man” at a festival somewhere, and he did *not* look like anyone I’d want to meet in a dark alley. :) Which is pretty funny, when you consider his real personality.

It took some digging (I don’t speak YouTube very fluently) but I finally found “that” comment on the Crash vid. Hee. And I’m listening to it now, and still marveling that he was allowed to sing that song at the homecoming. I’m going to guess he pulled it out at the last minute and since he was already up on the stage singing it, WTH could they do? The “I love you too”s crack me up.

  317. Just got done watching all the videos (great job, everyone!)and I am so impressed. Lee did so well- I couldn’t be happier for him. You can really feel his emotion when he sings. Lee had said the Arlington concert was going to be a more intimate setting, and I have to say I like this so much better. Don’t get me wrong, I loved seeing him on tour when he was rocking it out, but these performances at Arlington were really moving and in my opinion really showcased his talent.

Oh, and one more thing, the new song, Only Dreaming — absolutely loved it!

  318. Hello everyone! Hope yall are doing well. I keep listening to the performances and the one thing that makes me beam with pride the most is the people singing along.

I loved this concert more than the AI tour. This was Lee to a T (haha… :)) and it was his vibe. I remember the interview where someone asked if his tour setlist represented his album and he said no. I love that he knows who he is, and what kind of music he wants to make. AI may have screwed with his confidence, but it didn’t screw with his sense of self or identity.

  319. I loved this concert more than the AI tour

Me too! The AI concert was a very long 3 hrs. I went, of course, to see Lee and had to wait til the end to hear him. I would have preferred to be at his AP concert. Next year I hope to get to at least one of his concerts on his solo tour!

  320. Hi y’all! I think I said somewhere that we all agree that none of the songs on his two albums are throwaways, you know….the ones you skip over. I really think Only Dreaming might be one of those on the album that is mostly or maybe ALL Lee and since it most likely won’t be the single, it was Lee’s gift to us. Oh I so hope they release the single next week!! I’m so happy more Lee fans are posting here, welcome everyone!
And I just wanna say…… Crash into Me was “get the hose” hot!!!! Wow!

  321. Morning everyone!

Just put all the videos on a playlist and am giving myself a concert from beginning to end – after playing my favorites several times. A grand way to spend a Monday morning when I should be doing all sorts of other things! The feast seems to have gone on non-stop since the concert.

Loving the sense that this is the real Lee, the one he wants to show the world. Hope this is the album Lee too, in that intro to Only Dreaming I finally worked out that he says “actually, I’ve written on all of the songs”.

Can’t wait! And if Only Dreaming is a secret gift, then Crash into Me is a secret pleasure!

  322. Hello all! Lee was just plain HOT for the whole concert!
His style, voice and his stage presence were near perfect!
I’ve been humming and thinking about Only Dreaming all day. Not bad for a song that supposedly doesn’t have a hook! :)

  323. anniem47:

Not bad for a song that supposedly doesn’t have a hook!

Oh, it has a hook all right. It’s just not on the sheet music. ;)

  324. Only dreaming has been stuck in my head all day-and that’s fine with me!

  325. It’s too bad there is so much screaming and yelling in the background of Only Dreaming. I want to be able to enjoy the song without all the background noise.

I forgot about the pre-show version but the sound is not that clear.

  326. Oh, it has a hook all right. It’s just not on the sheet music.

    Love that hook!

But don’t you think it has a subtle hook? You know, a little tiny one? It’s definitely an earworm. I still can’t get it out of my head.

I’ve watched the videos over and over. He sang each song with so much emotion. I love them all. It makes me giggle that he described his set as intimate, even though it is…it’s just that a crowd of 20,000 isn’t exactly intimate!

  327. New who’s-Lee-working-with info! Michelle Lewis and Mitch Allan. Don’t know anything about them. Maybe someone can do the research lol.

    @mlewey:
Off to record with the hardest working dude ever, @LeeDeWyze
    and also:
And I know a real shot at a single should be enough of a reward for working today

@MitchAllan: Working on songs today for Lee DeWyze, Delta Goodrem, Sofi Bonde, and Every Avenue. I’m all over the place!

I want to be able to enjoy the song without all the background noise.

That’s what the album is for ;)

  328. I wonder what Only Dreaming will sound like on the album, what instruments, etc. and how it will sound without girls screaming “I love you Lee” in the background.
Two things I can predict about his future concerts- girls will continue messing up our videos screaming “I love you Lee” and Lee will break a guitar string every time, because he does everything with passion.
OK, here I am trying to remain family friendly and I land at the top of a new comment page.

  329. That’s what the album is for

I know but it seems so far away. Now that I heard a new song, I need some new Lee music, now!!!!!!!.

  330. girls will continue messing up our videos screaming “I love you Lee”

Just a warning, I will be one of those people shamelessly screaming at Lee to take his shirt off :D Lol at being family friendly…. twitter is for the more daring comments ;) I guess I’m not in Lee withdrawal because we keep getting little bits and pieces. It’s awesome.

  331. Some info on Mitch Allan from wiki:

    Sounds interesting.

  332. I screamed and yelled for Lee at the AI concert in July. My sons were embarrassed. For his solo tour, I will leave them and my husband home!

  333. Michelle Lewis….here is what her twitter page said about her

Cynical NY detective undercover as SoCal mom who writes pop songs for a living

Now Mitch Allan says he is a rockstar, and I checked out his
myspace page and he has a new band called Satellite, and their logo freaked me out…check it out and you’ll see what I mean. It looked a little like Lee’s so I thought maybe this was new band member….um…nope.

    Who is MitchAllan?
    Location: Los Angeles, CA

    Bio: I’m a mutherfucking Rockstar!

    Web: http://www.myspace.com/mitchallan

  334. wjmtv :I found a vid of his band performing “Simple Man” at a festival somewhere, and he did *not* look like anyone I’d want to meet in a dark alley.

LOL. I finally found the video.
I think it’s a case of simple haircut gone wrong.
I thought about your comment the whole time I was watching and couldn’t stop laughing:)

Lee’s still working on song writing? You’d think with so much writing sessions since the beginning of the AI tour, he’d have more than enough materials?! On second thoughts, I hope he releases his first album with at least 20 songs or more ( wishful thinking of course)

  335. Yeah I saw, the logo is kinda boxy like Lee’s. As far as Mitch, I can’t respect a guy that sings a song about Superman whilst sounding like a girl. Lol. The lyrics are pretty lame too. I don’t know. I trust Lee though.

  336. Googled “michelle lewis music” and this was interesting if it’s the same person:

f you meet Michelle before you hear her music, you might be surprised to find out she plays folk. She doesn’t fit the profile. She quotes Homer Simpson before Paul Simon. She prefers Mardi Gras to Earth Day. She drives fast. She throws snowballs. She talks loud, she eats meat, and if you leave the mayonnaise off her sandwich she might try to fight you.
If you hear Michelle’s music before you meet her, you might be surprised at her exuberance. Her songs throw you against a wall. They kick you out of the house and walk around naked. They call up to heaven. They crumble at your feet.

  337. Wow… that quote about Michelle sounds VERY interesting lol. As far as why he’s still working, I don’t know how that stuff works. Quite frankly, I don’t want the first album to have 20 songs because then Lee may die of exhaustion. Ok, I kid. But still that would be so much work! :)

ETA: Someone will know this; Didn’t David Cook write tons of songs that didn’t make the first album? And he’s still working on the second one. I assumed writing a ton of songs was the norm for musicians that insist on having a hand in whatever makes the album.

  338. Did you notice on Mitch’s MySpace page that he is “grammy-nominated”?

Did you see his video on his myspace??? OMG You have to scroll down. It’s on the right. It’s called “Say the Words”.

Honestly, after seeing that, I have no words.

  341. Oh, I screamed at the Glamnation Tour and the Idol Tour this summer-they both came to my town in July. I felt so lucky-I’d have driven for hours for either one. So much Idol hotness in the same month! I’m usually pretty reserved in public, but for these epic events, I had no shame. My husband did, but so what-at least he got to see DiDi.Anyway, I had lots of company screaming for Lee.

  342. I didn’t watch the video! Once I heard the song, I figured this was a guy I couldn’t get on board with. Is it OMG awful, OMG confusing, or OMG amazing?

ETA: OMG I watched it!!! Aaaaahhh it’s awful! Sweet Jesus! *Runs to itunes to play a Lee vid and not feel so violated

  343. They always write and record a lot more songs than they will use on the album and then they choose the best ones that fit the album. Some of the others become bonus tracks.

  344. ETA: OMG I watched it!!! Aaaaahhh it’s awful! Sweet Jesus! *Runs to itunes to play a Lee vid and not feel so violated

    I told you!!!

ETA: I’m laughing so hard, I’m crying. I need to wash my eyes out!

  345. cristististi : Is it OMG awful, OMG confusing, or OMG amazing?

My first reaction was OMG awful but since he is working with Lee, it became OMG confusing. WHY???
Is it me or does he have a girly voice?! ( probably just me).

  346. My first reaction would be OMG awful but since he is working with Lee, it became OMG confusing. WHY???
Is it me or does he have a girly voice?! ( probably just me).

It is all of the above. What really got me, however, is the “come hither” look on his face. ewwwww

On a serious note, good songwriters do not always make good singers. Lee will be fine, I have no doubt.

  347. If you’re making a music vid, why would you want to creep out the viewer like that? Holy crap. And that dude’s voice is so… blah for lack of a better word.

Ok, maybe he has the engineer, mixer, sound design part…..who knows.

Dang I read the warnings here and I listened anyway, why did I do that? :( AWFUL!!

WARNING!!! DO NOT WATCH THE SAY THE WORDS VIDEO!!! lol You WILL regret it!!!!

  352. Hopefully, Lee is too busy to surf the internet. I’d have a hard time sitting in a studio with him after seeing that.

  353. After all your comments I had to go out and watch the video and listen to his voice. His voice is definitely, shall I say “feminine”. He was really creepy looking in the video!

  354. WARNING!!! DO NOT WATCH THE SAY THE WORDS VIDEO!!! lol You WILL regret it!!!!

I just did (again) ….just to get another really good laugh.

Seriously, I think we should tweet the video to LEE with cristististi”s warnings.

  355. Eh, his voice is ok, but I don’t think he has an acting career ahead of him. I don’t blame those other people in the video for blacking out their faces-this could come back to haunt them. He better stick to songwriting- I see he helped Kara write No Boundaries.
Er-didn’t that look like David Cook in the background with the flaming thingie?

  356. If Lee can make magic with bagpipes, he can do anything.

    So true.

you guys know I am only kidding about tweeting the video right?

    Yes. But still funny.

  357. Well Mitch A tweeted about four or five names so maybe he’s more in the technical part. It would seem that the album, or parts of it, would be at that stage.
Oh and funny, when told to watch that video my first thought was “uh uh, my itouch only plays Lee!” glad I didn’t!

  358. rivermaya:

you guys know I am only kidding about tweeting the video right?

    Uh-oh.

  359. KVWicks13-I got that from ClickOnLee-it didn’t do anything weird when I voted.

  360. yay more songwriter news! LOL..i love your guys’ reaction to that dude’s voice. do it! TWEET IT to Lee! :P
Youve probably seen this by now but here’s a new set of HD videos in order: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=9E21F9105BE7551A
The person is a little further back so doesnt get as much of that ‘base buzz’ but has excellent zoom so it’s still close up.

Also, the IdolWild2010 blog just posted a concert review, she wasnt there so i’m gonna assume she didnt get the full power of Lee’s magic. You mightve read her Idol tour concert review here on MJs (@mythsofsisyphus)- http://idolwild2010.wordpress.com/2010/09/26/concert-review-lee-dewyze-at-arlington-park/
I’ve read her older entries (she’s been blogging/reviewing every week of AI) and she’s been a big Lee fan since the start. I dont agree with everything she says in this review but its an interesting, not totally bias review by a Lee fan! I like it, dont think i love it, but definitely dont hate it ;)

ETA: you might wanna check out her other stuff too like ‘Top 10 lists’..theyre a cool read. Lee makes it on quite a few of them!

  361. I got that from ClickOnLee-it didn’t do anything weird when I voted.

Thanks, my screen froze. I got nervous after I heard there was a virus out on twitter so I just exited out and quit for the night.
I wanted to vote more for Lee because he was 18th, but I was afraid I would run into problems with my twitter account.

Also I’m not sure its a good idea to follow all these people, sometimes you get weird stuff. I may try to limit my following to our group.

  362. Wow, you guys have been busy today. Can’t wait to catch up. A few things now…

Didn’t David Cook write tons of songs that didn’t make the first album? And he’s still working on the second one. I assumed writing a ton of songs was the norm for musicians that insist on having a hand in whatever makes the album.

David said he wrote about 50 songs for his first record and they recorded about 20-25. His album had 16 songs total if you count both bonus songs, the hidden song and the coronation song. That figure seems about typical because there are cuts made at every stage, not all songs written become demos, not all demos get studio quality recorded and not all recorded songs make the album. I’d expect about the same for Lee. The left over songs could be in consideration for future albums but usually the newer material wins out in that scenario. Sometimes they shop some of the songs that didn’t make the cut to other artists. I’m hoping we will hear about 15 or so total songs considering there will probably be a few bonus versions of the album.

I’m glad to see some discussion about Crash Into Me. My thoughts on his performance the other night are not family friendly. And funny because I didn’t consider CIM one of my favorites from the homecoming but I really love how he slowed it down here and lingered on every single phrase. Even the “I love yous” seemed appropriately placed.

I’ll have to check out the two songwriters mentioned today. Curious that the lady mentioned possibly getting the single. I hope they are close to deciding on it.

  363. Idolwild’s review is interesting – positive but critical – but more interesting when I clicked on the link at the end to more about the concert I ended up back on this page!

Wonder if people will get as far down the page as these comments?

  364. tigervixxxen:

but I really love how he slowed it down here and lingered on every single phrase. Even the “I love yous” seemed appropriately placed.

    WORD!

  365. I read the review as well. I didn’t think it was that bad and I think the positives outweighed the negatives. I still don’t get the deer in headlights reference that she made and I’ve heard others say.

  366. Thanks tigervixxxen! I knew I wasn’t imagining things!

I actually liked the review. I disagree with some of it, but it doesn’t take away my enjoyment from reading it. I love that picture from during Annabelle ;)

I dont get that either, did not see that at all in any of the video’s.

  368. Everyone was really feeling Annabelle!

ETA: i gotta agree with u guys on that deer reference thing too. i seriously dont understand it. Even with her graphical explanation using that screencap from Hallelujah..?

  369. What did she mean by this??

While I don’t think this concert “changed the game” in any way, I do believe that Lee is setting himself up to be a very relevant touring artist and a solid recording voice.

    “change the game”?
Also top of her blog says word press, which is our sign in sheet here, so must be connected somehow.

  370. I think during the time on Idol they tried to make him conform to their standard of “the performer/entertainer” It wasn’t his preferred performing style and he’s chosen to present himself differently! – and he seemed comfortable in that.

It seems a matter of choice and confidence, not of reverting to old patterns out of nervousness.

Actually i wondered when this criticism would arise – people are still expecting the Idol image!

ETA aprilfoolish: WordPress is a blogging system that websites can install. Her site isn’t part of Mjs, I was just intrigued that she linked to this page as her source of info, and it also means anyone who follows that link will end up here – ie this is still an active thread with new interest possible!

  371. aprilfoolish:

Also top of her blog says word press, which is our sign in sheet here, so must be connected somehow

WordPress is just a blog server type thing. I was gonna comment and thought that maybe u could login there using the same name & password as here but it doesnt work. Cbb registering over there

  372. I’m just gonna quote b/c some of u just say exactly what im thinking but i cant get it down as well.
    Imkhemari:

It seems a matter of choice and confidence, not of reverting to old patterns out of nervousness.

agreeeeed! He definitely didnt seem nervous to me; i actually thought he was totally in element that night.

Actually i wondered when this criticism would arise – people are still expecting the Idol image!

I love that he’s trying to shed his AI image and just be himself…aaand im reminded of CIM again

  373. performances of his other pre-Idol songs like Walk Away, Stay, and So What Now

LOL That’s a Ben Harper song i thought?

  374. Wish Lee had a new/?his own? song on the album that could show that side of him. it was quite special and powerful.

    Also ANS.

  375. Oh ok I didn’t know what word press was.
. A question to those there… Did the sitting on the stool thing work for you?? (it worked for us YouTube viewers!). And did the stage really lend itself to wandering? Lee wanted intimate, and I think his set list and the way he sang it made it feel that way. Also the banter thing…IMO he does that better with someone else there to play off of, his humor is rife with witty comebacks. And this night was very very important to him, so if he was a tad nervous, so be it, but it didn’t show in his singing. Of course, I wasn’t there between songs.

  376. So true about his “witty comebacks” Im really hoping his new band is great and the type of people he’d be friends with and can share his sense of humour.
Kinda like the Kris Allen/Cale Mills bromance.

Just pulled this from IdolWild’s profile (is it Kristen/Kirsten or Dana- thats the name on her twitter bio but idk if thats a ref to someone else?)

My opinions, like my hair color, change and fluctuate. I’ll always have my favorites (Lee DeWyze and David Cook are clearly at the top of that particular list), but I’m not afraid of calling even my favorites out for their flaws. Everyone is human, and there’s nothing wrong with celebrating the failures alongside the triumphs.

  377. I also enjoyed reading the review. I have looked back at her other entries and she is definitely a fan but her style of writing is very snarky. The only part I thought was a little unfair to judge how the performance style worked in connection to the large audience because she wasn’t there and it really isn’t for us at home watching youtubes to determine. Even though Lee was finally able to really immerse in his own style in this show we still don’t know what the whole album will consist of and how shows where he’s doing mostly material from it will be like.

I looked up the songwriters from today. Looks like as you all have said Mitch Allan has worked with many artists. One of the more recent ones is Daughtry, which is cool. Michelle Lewis is much more of a mystery, there isn’t much of a songwriters bio and history I can find on her other than what is on her website. It is interesting though to mix more seasoned writers with others who are a little less experienced. I wonder how they ended up working together. Anyhow, it is great to keep getting into!

  378. Another thing…emotional singers get into their songs, like when he sang Hallelujah on idol he looked totally spent after. When he sang cim he seemed ?? Kind of pensive?? Not sure (runs to view cim for 1,000th time)! But he did seem like it was hard to shift gears after that sexy song into lite banter. I only saw a few seconds after though.

  379. LOLs! haha
hey there mythofsisyphus! this is what we do when we find anything related to Lee. Deconstruct everything :)

thnx again for the blog post. (this is xForget_Me_Not)

  380. I went back to read some of her previous articles. She wrote an article where she rated Lee’s first 3 weeks as the winner. She rated him positive on singing, public image, priorities, and No Drama. She rated him negatively on fashion. She said the blazers have to die.

She’s also not a fan of Slezak at EW. She made reference in another article of Slezak’s bias towards Crystal, and that it was wrong that Lee’s idolatry was shorter than Crystal’s. You go girl!
    That annoyed me as well.

  381. The reviewer wasn’t there-I don’t think she got the full picture any more than we did. I think he planned it to be just like this-intimate. He’s been performing in front of thousands of people this summer, rocking out and roaming all over the stage, so we know he is perfectly capable of that.
Also a consideration-he’s in the middle of a series of recording sessions for his album-maybe he didn’t want to risk blowing a vocal cord during a more rowdy performance.
Overall I thought the review was fairly positive.

  382. mythofsisyphus – and Inkhemari. Yes! LOL

This exchange feels like one of those reflecting to infinity mirrors!

  383. I HATE SLEZAK!

Wow! All this time, I thought I was the only one!! :)

  384. I screamed and yelled for Lee at the AI concert in July. My sons were embarrassed. For his solo tour, I will leave them and my husband home!

    Sounds like a plan! LOL

  385. haha definitely not. he’s way too bias and hypocritical..just loves fanboy-ing over his favs who he OVER praises wayyy too much!

lol, itd be too funny if he found himself over here as well just as we’re talking about him, like IdolWild/mythofsisyphus

  386. if i havent said this before- I HATE SLEZAK

Nabs, me too! He’s very biased and Lee never stood a chance with him. I generally liked his idolatry interviews, but Lee’s was 5 parts and Crystals was 8 parts. And when he reviewed the Newark concert he dissed everyone but Crystal. This was the first year I tuned into his column and it will probably be the last.

  387. wow! lots of catching up to do here since i have not been here since yesterday.

    I HATE SLEZAK!

What i am so glad about is that when Slezak asked Lee what the other songs were that were on the table instead of BD Lee just told him it didn’t matter. I was happy to hear Lee say that because Sleak did not deserve to know.

  388. agreed AIaddict! he pretended to be all interested in Lee’s choices when he really doesnt care

  389. umm…just precautionary- are we allowed to diss him here?

I think we can diss him as long as he is not another poster on this site.

  390. She’s also not a fan of Slezak at EW. She made reference in another article of Slezak’s bias towards Crystal, and that it was wrong that Lee’s idolatry was shorter than Crystal’s. You go girl!

Ok, for this reason alone I think I love her.

  391. umm…just precautionary- are we allowed to diss him here?

I think we can diss him as long as he is not another poster on this site.

Not sure but we have gotten a little bit off topic :(

That link to the mini AP concert is good, I like that we get some of the banter between songs!

  392. haha definitely not. he’s way too bias and hypocritical..just loves fanboy-ing over his favs who he OVER praises wayyy too much!

EXACTLY how I feel about the jerk.

lol, itd be too funny if he found himself over here as well just as we’re talking about him, like IdolWild/mythofsisyphus

Never happen, he’s too busy drooling over one of his faves on one of their blogs somewhere.

  393. Maybe we can only talk about Lee’s idolatry interview. Lee is the topic afterall, just no complaining and comparing it to Crystal’s.

I thought maybe Lee just wasn’t comfortable with that interview. I remember hearing somewhere that he and Andrew checked out a couple of the episodes, so he would have known he was sort of on enemy turf. Either way it was still a treat to see Lee all dressed up and being able to talk about the entire AI experience. It wasn’t just a “How did it feel to win?” kind of interview.

LOL nabs, I don’t think so either!

  394. Nabs, I don’t think they do. It’s kinda funny though. Glad we were on our best behavior.

  395. *waives to mythofsisyphus* :)

There are parts of Slezak’s Idol beat that I enjoy. I like how he is very detailed and through, he’s usually a great interviewer too. I like some snarky commentary on the show too. But his love affair with certain contestants really turn me off to the whole thing. The Allison obsession drove me insane and I honestly think his over the top commentary about Crystal made me a bit closed minded to her at one point. It is harder when he doesn’t like your favorites either. I thought what they did to Danny was pretty bad too. I think a lot of Idol fans look up to him and the Idolatry crew for their opinions. So I really do have mixed feelings on it all. And I agree, they didn’t nearly put in enough effort on their interview with Lee, it was disappointing.

  396. he pretended to be all interested in Lee’s choices when he really doesnt care

Oh, I think he cared allright. He wanted the exclusive, be the first to get the scoop and Lee would not give it to him.

  397. Slezak didn’t nearly put in enough effort on the interview with Lee, it was disappointing.

Totally agree. I’ve watched the interview many times. I think he introduced the video saying “Idolatry is happy to welcomes Lee Dewyze”. But I don’t think anywhere in the interview does he congratulate him!

  398. I think he introduced the video saying “Idolatry is happy to welcomes Lee Dewyze”. But I don’t think anywhere in the interview does he congratulate him!

Of course not, he didn’t want Lee to win. ;)

  399. lols yeh. Cant believe we havent vented about Slezak before haha.

oh and yes kvwicks13, u are correct ;)

  400. I don’t know if Slezak ever lurks at MJ’s, but Jim C. does. He’ll pop up suddenly and post an answer to a question or give an opinion.

  401. idolwild, if you’re here, thank you for calling out “Annabelle” in your review. That song is smokin’.

And in answer to a question asked a bit up the thread, Lee sitting on a stool for 60 minutes was just fine with me. He appeared to be quite comfortable there, which I think says a lot about his confidence.

A big xoxo to whomever noticed he keeps blowing strings, and your theory of why. I’ll drink to that!

  402. Artemis, I actually like Jim C. from MTV. He was at the same Newark concert as Slezak and pointed out something good in everyone.
I thought his review was very fair. He may have made a few criticisms but his overall review was very positive.

  403. Hi! Back after a power outage! Grrrr…we are so dependant on Internet… Um I mean power.

  404. mythsofsisyphus latest tweet
new followers: just to be clear, I am a total dewyze fangirl. I just play quasi-serious critic to make sure his head doesn’t get too big :)

Thanks mythsofsisyphus! Good meeting you! And I enjoy your writing!

  405. idolwild, if you’re here, thank you for calling out “Annabelle” in your review. That song is smokin’.

Hey, you’re totally welcome. He rocked that song out hardcore, and I adored every second of it.

I am beginning to think that my belief that Lee looks uncomfortable on stage is perhaps incorrect, and what I perceive to be discomfort is actually just how he looks when he performs. I don’t suppose I can personally fault him for that, though I worry that casual-to- non-fans might make the same mistake in perception that I have.

  406. If Lee wants to sit on a stool with guitar in hand for a whole show it would not bother any of us in the least would it? I don’t think so. He was so in his element Friday night it was incredible. I can’t wait for the next show but in the mean time I am thoroughly enjoying the videos posted from Friday. Everything from that concert screamed,– this is the real Lee!!!–, to me.

  407. I like Jim C., too. Even when he mocks, he isn’t mean. I’m an Adam fan and I thought his Glambert6969 character was hilarious. Hi, Jim C. (waves-in case you are lurking).
Back on topic-Lee sure looks great in that photo shoot- I mean at AP!

  408. lols yeh i dont mind Jim C. his reviews are much less one-sided than Slezak’s.
He did an interview with ainow recently (it isnt up yet) and people tweeted in qs. There was an interesting one where someone asked the interviewer to ask Jim about his super ‘awkward’ interview with Lee at the Dream house (it wasnt aired)! i’m really hoping we get his answer or at least this Lee interview.

  409. If Lee wants to sit on a stool with guitar in hand for a whole show it would not bother any of us in the least would it?

No ma’am, it would not. For that matter, if Lee wants to sit on a stool with his hands on his crotch for the whole show it would not bother me either. Just keep singing and I’m happy.

  410. Mythsofsisyphus I think there were times when he was inarticulate – or flustered eg with the broken guitar string. I think he’s extremely tired at present, which makes him inarticulate with words but that music and voice just pours out – no nerves there.

And did you see the newcomer comment on the CIM video? – there’s more than one way to interpret his face!

  411. mythsofsisyphus, your review was great, lots of things to consider from a fan and non fan perspective. I had fun reading a lot of your blogs a while back :)

  412. if Lee wants to sit on a stool with his hands on his crotch for the whole show it would not bother me either.

LOL! Are you referring to the US performance minus the guitar?

there’s more than one way to interpret his face!

    There sure is.

Lee will get better with the banter in between songs with time.

  413. Lee will get better with the banter in between songs with time.

yes our boy will get better and better…..then watch the masses melt!

  414. LOL! Are you referring to the US performance minus the guitar?

    Yep! :)

  415. BTW guys, kinda totally unrelated but Imkhemari and I wanted to make sure u guys know of the easy way to keep track of this group’s tweets-
there are a few lists made of Lee’s fans on MJs, just follow one of any:
    > twitter.com/xForget_Me_Not/leedewyzemjers
    > twitter.com/Landmda/leefansmjs
    > twitter.com/Musicme1/mjers

its an easy way to track back on convos too :)

  416. if Lee wants to sit on a stool with his hands on his crotch for the whole show it would not bother me either.

LOL. ;) I actually liked US because of his ability to focus on his voice. Even if he looked visibly awkward (there was a little bit of awkward left hand action going on) I liked that he was willing to put the guitar down.

  417. there was a little bit of awkward left hand action going on

lols yeh i noticed that too! it’s prob one of my fave versions of US though.

  418. Once again, thank you Nabs and Imkhemari. You guys do so much for all of us!

    ETA:Roll Tide!! AIaddict! :)

  419. I liked that he was willing to put the guitar down.

I thought he broke a string so it was not by choice that he did not have the guitar.

stay4awhile just have to say ROLL TIDE!

I think it is a misconception, although I understand why some think he’s uncomfortable.

Here’s my theory on it: Most of the time, when Lee is performing, he is in the moment – so much so, he vanishes. It’s all about the music for him and he completely lets himself vanish into the music. He has often said that he is an emotional performer. He connects to the music with his whole mind and body. And on those occasions, it’s magic.

ETA: Forgot to say that because he is so immersed in the music, he has to force himself to talk to the crowd. I get the impression he would rather just sit on that stool, sing and play the guitar. I’m totally okay with that. I know that as time goes on, he’ll get better at it. But some people may not connect with him for that reason. Maybe they feel left out. And it probably makes him look nervous and awkward.
    mythofsisyphus Thanks for popping in!

  421. My bad, I worded it wrong. I meant that Lee didn’t freak out about the broken guitar string. He was willing to sing without the guitar. He doesn’t use it like a crutch :)

  422. LOL, Lee’s been looking at the videos! Wonder if he read that comment?

  423. LOL, Lee’s been looking at the videos! Wonder if he read that comment?

    How do you know?

  424. Lee just tweeted:
To all my fans anywhere in the world, thank you. I just watched some videos from Friday, you all kick ass. Studio today :)… Nov 16. Love u
9 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone

  425. I would bet tons of monopoly money that he checked out (or at least got a friend to check out) the comments on the Only Dreaming videos to find out what fans were saying about it.

Makes me wonder if he reads here?:)

  428. artemis:

Wonder if he read that comment?

haha omg yeh! someone should tweet it to him and point it out!

  429. Let’s hope he skipped Mitch Allen’s video.

you guys are making me laugh again.

  430. Landmd:

Makes me wonder if he reads here?:)

It’d be awesome if he read here! well theres ups and downs of course (not everyone here is as cool as us ;) )

btw, i have to ask about this “roll tide” thing..b/c i think i missed it. i remember you guys kept saying it earlier.
and youre welcome, stay4awhile, it really isnt anything :)

    ETA:
    just saw this- Dlynne:

Let’s hope he skipped Mitch Allen’s video.

LOL. just realised..we have inside jokes!

  431. Makes me wonder if he reads here?:)

I sure hope not! Unless he looks in the right places, he’s going to think this isn’t a Lee-friendly blog!

  432. LOL, Lee’s been looking at the videos! Wonder if he read that comment?

r u guys referring to the gal in CIM that wanted to get in his pants?

  433. Nabs, we had the same thought at the same time.

Roll Tide is just a football cheer for University of Alabama (AIaddict and my team). Sorry to confuse you. :)

  434. wjmtv:
    09/26/2010 at 11:35 pm
    Dlynne, I like your theory.

    I’m liking it too:)

  435. ahh thnx for that stay4awhile! My American football viewing doesnt extend any further than watching NFL Films Presents. love that show!

And yes i did just say ‘American football’ like a complete noob but thats b/c im an Aussie who watches NRL, AFL as well as European soccer/football leagues; all of which are referred to as ‘football’ :)

  436. exactly! although i hate rugby union. NRL is also rugby but for some reason we all call it football/footy?!

  437. @mlewey, the songwriter just tweeted again:

@LeeDeWyze Fun with you in this stupid hot LA heat. Lets hope by the finish our song we can wear hoodies and eat soup (like, next week)

looks like she shares Lee’s love for hoodies :)

ETA: he seems to be getting along so well with these songwriters! theyve all seemed pretty happy about working with him in their tweets

  438. If Lee visited Kristen’s CIB video he certainly saw that comment – its now at the top of the list as the highest rated!

  439. yeh we definitely scared everyone else away with our talk about foreign sports. I sure know how to clear a room ;)

  440. coools! yeh i posted that playlist this morning. i like how theres a lot of the banter included in between songs :)

Btw, hi LeeDeWyzeIntl if youre still lurking around! ;)

  441. Thanks for the links Imkhemari. :) I’ve downloaded more than 40 vids of the concerts and still have more than 10 to go. Haven’t watch alilbutterfly’s yet. I also prefer Kristen’s cause Lee is so up close and you can see all the emotion he pours into each song. Love all the convo from last night’s posting. Took me a while to read them all. Like the idolwild review. Since the setting was suppose to be intimate, sitting down was the right choice to me. Don’t mind where his hands were.

  442. As much as I don’t care for “you know who”….I did love part 3 when Lee said, “I’m just a poor boy…..” that was so funny! It’s been a lot of fun catching up on everyone’s comments and all the vids of the AP show…Thanks for all the links!

rivermaya….I messed up a post answering your question about the singer on The Problem is You….it’s Julie Frost.

  443. I’m glad everyone enjoyed the videos. It was nice that I had a flower pot to rest my elbow on to keep the camera steady. I counted wrong. Walk Away was the last one I had. So everything is posted now. It was a great concert. Lee sounded amazing but he did look nervous in between songs. I’m sure he’ll get over that in time. I felt so bad when his guitar string broke. The week before at Ford Day he said that’s the worst thing that can happen during a show but he handled it well. I really liked “Only Dreaming” and I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. I love the tone of his voice.

The only downside of the concert were all the screaming girls. There’s normal cheering and then there’s screeching bloody murder at the top of your lungs. I wanted to turn around and tell them to shut the hell up! I also had elbows in my back the entire time but it was worth it for a front row spot.

  444. Thank you so much once again for sharing your HD videos with all of us Kristen. We really love and appreciate them. :)

  445. Kristen, thanks so much for the videos. I really really enjoyed them. They are my favs in my Lee vid collection now. If Lee was nervous, I could not tell from the vids. He acted like a pro when the string broke and also when he missed the verse on Rocket Man. Love it when girls scream before and after the performance but not during. On the upside, I’m sure Lee got the message loud and clear. LOL.

ETA: I love your video on Stay. It made me cry :)

  446. Lee said, “I’m just a poor boy…..” that was so funny

    !

heat914, that’s my favorite part as well, Lee was like “Hey, I”m just a poor boy”. They were referrring to Kara’s comment that he should be more flirty on A Little Less Conversation.

  447. Kristen, thanks for those amazing videos.

Lee’s bandmembers said he used to throw up before every show! Maybe that’s a ritual for him!

  448. He’s a sensitive guy; no wonder he can channel his emotions into writing such beautiful songs.

  449. Kristen, thanks for all your videos (from the AP show and Ford Day)! I really enjoyed watching them. The quality is amazing!

  450. How can Lee’s vomiting make me love him even more?!

Kristen, thanks so much for the videos!

  451. Kristen, Thank you immensely for the wonderful videos. Absolutely beautiful considering you were getting elbowed the whole time, lol. I wanted to ask you to consider removing your comment about why the show was delayed. I never like to see anything negative about Lee and since this was just a rumor, I’d hate to see it spread everywhere on the web. Lee said in a radio interview I heard on Friday that the show was going to start at 7:45. I don’t think it was much later that that was it? Please don’t take this the wrong way, it’s just I want the wonderful performance Lee gave to be the big news, not some rumor.
Thank you for considering my request. Can you follow me? I’m @Magical_Lee. Then we could discuss thru DM’s if you want to.

  452. I have two actors in my family, one of them in musical theatre, so I know a lot of performers. They tend to be either complete extroverts or else very tightly wound and extremely sensitive- they are not your average bears. At least not the talented ones.

  453. stay4awhile:

How can Lee’s vomiting make me love him even more?!

lols i know, me too! cant explain it but if true, there’s something so endearing about that.

  454. Lee’s bandmembers said he used to throw up before every show! Maybe that’s a ritual for him!

Non other than John Lennon threw up before he took the stage at the Live Peace in Toronto festival in 1969, so I would say Lee’s in pretty good company. ;)

  455. How can Lee’s vomiting make me love him even more?!

Idjfan, I hope you didn’t take my comment the wrong way. I find it endearing. I love that he can be that nervous one minute, and then sing his ass off the next!(if it’s true)

  456. No, I understand what your saying. But I’m just afraid it will get into the press, blogs etc. and become part of the story of the concert. The story should be that 20,000 people came to see him perform, he was at his best ever and the new song was beautiful!

  457. ldjfan I see what you are saying about her saying that knowing it could be a rumor but isn’t it ok to be nervous for any performer that wants their show to go well. Seems to me if any singer can go out and perform without being nervous something is wrong. Really though the show went amazingly well from the videos and if he was nervous he didn’t show it at all. He does need to get better with the banter between songs and he will in time.

Kristen Thanks so much for the wonderful videos.

nabs LOL! at the foreign football talk. Sorry I got things off track last night with the team shout out. Also thanks for the link to the videos from further back by alibutterfly.

  458. Morning all! I had the misfortune of forgetting my earphones today, but had the fortune of still being able to watch the videos on my ipod from the concert (albeit, without sound) and something hit me! Lee’s getting better at being present. By that, I mean he was looking at everybody on stage. Whether Tim was being awesome on guitar or the piano dude was playing something pretty at the beginning of Stay, Lee was acknowledging them. He kind of gave them all looks of approval like “Wow, this is awesome guys!”

Even if he was uncomfortable performing in front of 20,000 people, he was comfortable performing with those guys. And they seemed to enjoy it too. It was awesome to notice that. :D

  459. Lee was acknowledging them. He kind of gave them all looks of approval like “Wow, this is awesome guys!”

Yes, he does give them looks of approval occasionally I noticed that too. I wish these guys could stay with him they worked really well together. Maybe they could add a drummer and a couple of other interesting instruments to the band.

I’m watching some of the videos now.

  460. Imkhemari, (finally, I can spell your name without looking at your previous post!) :) Thanks for the link above to the AP entire set. The audio is very good. I noticed he’s doing a little snippet of DMB’s What Would You Say on guitar before Walk Away. Cute!

  461. Thanx!! That’s me on bass!! We had a? BLAST!!

    NewGenesisband 2 days ago

The bass player from the AP concert posted this on the BD/FF You Tube video.

  462. Can’t get anything done today! I’ve been diagnosed with CDABWLJDCV, otherwise known as “Can’t Do Anything But Watch LJD Concert Videos”. It’s a serious affliction, and in it’s mildest form it causes heart palpitations. Sadly, I suffer from the more deadly form that can literally stop your heart. Luckily, there is cure, a daily dose of Amazingness Sauce!!! :)

I just droped off my kid to school, It’s all for me to enjoy LJD videos for 2 1/2 hours..hehe.. Daily dose of Amazingness sauce FTW!

  465. I have 1 more hr til my sons get home from school so I will be having my dose of Amazingness sauce for the next hour!

  466. You ladies are way behind! I’ve been hittin’ the sauce all day long–and I don’t care who knows it!!

    “suffering” the same affliction :)

  468. LOL! you guys are killing me.

Pass the Amazingness Sauce please. :)

  469. I knew I had to check into this thread to assure myself I am not going insane thinking Lee, watching Lee and listening Lee all the time.

Kristen, really Thank You for the amazing videos. Better yet, it’s in HD and so up close.
I can only guess how hard it was for you to take the video at the same time watching Lee.
If I were at the concert, I wouldn’t be able to do both (watch and take video) as I know I will tune out everything and give Lee my undivided attention. So thank you again.

Nabs. just read the article at idolwind.
I actually like the review .I like that it really showcased and talked about Lee’s musical strength as an artist. Anyways, thanks for sharing the link.

Ldjfan – I believe you were at the concert. I am sure women/girls are the majority but I would like to know your impression of male attendees at the concert as well. ( I really want Lee to grow his male fanbase over time as well……thinking Dave Matthews here ).

  470. rivermaya – I was at the concert but I don’t remember there being any guys at all in my section. Just asked my daughter and she doesn’t remember any either! Haha! I did see some Dads with their daughters but I estimate the male audience at a lowly 15%. I guess that’s why Lee thought he should sing Crash Into Me again! I must go now and watch more videos – I have CDABWLJDCV and I am going thru horrible withdrawl symptoms since I had to go to work! Next time I go to a Lee concert, I’ll schedule a week’s vacation after so I can hit the sauce for days after!

  471. rivermaya – I think they all went to watch more LJD concert videos!

  472. Kristin, thanks so much for the wonderful videos! And thank you especially for not screaming while you were recording!! The vids are great, and they mean so much to the people who couldn’t go.

  473. Yes, thank you so very much Kristin; the videos are so good I feel like I was there. I can’t stop watching.

  474. Pass the sauce! That’s hilarious.

Kristen, I know how much time it takes to upload the videos and I can’t thank you enough. Like it was said above, it really does feel like you’re there!

  475. I can’t get over how cool Lee was when he broke the string….he just kind of pushed it out of the way and kept playing :) I wonder if he’ll have a back-up guitar next to him for future concerts?

  476. Hi, everyone! CDABWLJDCV is in temporary remission, so I thought I’d see what was going on.

ETA I can already tell what will happen tonight when my husband comes home. He’ll walk through the door, smile, and say “Hi, how was your day?” and I’ll say, “WHAT? GIVE ME A BREAK! Can’t you see I have a condition?” And he’ll say “What condition?” I’ll explain CDABWLJDCV to him… he will look puzzled. Then I say “So you see, nothing got done because I’m SICK!” and he will respond “You’ve got that right!”

  477. anniem47….you’re too funny!

I’m keeping my condition secret….maybe I need LDA (lee dewyze anonymous) to admit I “have” a problem??

  478. hey all!
    LOL..you guys are killing me!

btw, have u all seen the article about Lee and Fox Chicago that MJ linked in the headlines thread?

  479. ok..never mind. i just signed into twitter and i can see that u guys are tlking about it!

  480. Hi. I’d like to introduce myself. I suffer from two distinct maladies, OCDCD (Obsessive Compulsive David Cook Disorder) and CDABWLJDCV. They have very similar symptoms. The only way you can really tell them apart is by going directly to the source of the affliction. The good news is that they are seasonal. Right now, CDABWLJDCV is in full bloom while OCDCD is in remission. From what I understand, though, OCDCD is very likely to flare up again in the spring, which is also about the time CDABWLJDCV is scheduled to hit pandemic proportions. It’s good to know there’s a support group here ;)

  481. ItsMyT1me, I feel your pain. Oh, do I. I’ve heard if you pour amazingness sauce on a crossword puzzle, you’ll feel better.

  487. NEW songwriter info (i think)-

    @EKiddBoggart:

@LeeDeWyze is hilarious! I think I’m officially not the funniest guy today.

    here’s the actual tweet: https://twitter.com/EKiddBogart/status/25735946802

    Name- Evan “Kidd” Bogart

Twitter bio: Brainchild Of Virtuous Expulsion, Co-Founder of The Writing Camp, Executive Producer of HITMAKERS, Mentor, Wizard, Sushcianado etc.

    Website: http://www.thewritingcamp.net/about/evankiddbogart.html

ETA: Just pulled this from the site:

Evan “Kidd” Bogart breathes life into the souls of songs. A roster of platinum artists including Adam Lambert, Pussycat Dolls, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Natasha Bedingfield, Jason Derülo, Ke$ha, Sean Kingston, Rihanna and Beyoncé — whose “Halo,” co-written by Bogart and Ryan Tedder, became a Grammy-winning smash — bears witness to the power of this authenticity.

  488. See, AIaddict, I’m back :) (is that AI or Al?) – Ha the letters looks the same. Okay, is that A followed by I as in idol or l as in lamb? Thanks!

  489. New tweet about Lee (oops someone beat me to it)eta

    here
    Love it!! Welcome:)

  491. Lee seems to be writing with different songwriters almost every day. All this tib bits is really driving me crazy. I want Nov 16 to be here! ItsMyFirstTime, welcome

  492. Hopefully his new single will be released shortly!

ItsMyFirstTime, welcome to our cozy corner!

  493. Hopefully his new single will be released shortly!

My fingers are crossed for that!

  494. Okay. I want the album to be really good. I will be patient. I will be patient. I will be patient. Crossing fingers for new single too.

  495. Jennyl, it has to come out in the next week. October 5th will be 6 weeks from his cd release. I think we will see something possible next week.

  496. Does any one know how his pre- order album stands? Numbers-wise, I mean.

  497. Does any one know how his pre- order album stands? Numbers-wise, I mean.

I would like to know that, too. I wonder if the concert made any difference in sales.

  498. ItsMyTime, I love your post :D Welcome to this cozy corner. I’m also new here, just signed up last week. I do remember you from leedewyzeofficial.com and I think I’ve seen you on twitter. I’m @run_katya_run on LDO and twitter.

Nice to hear more songwriting news…our boy really is the hardest working dude. Evan Bogart seems impressive, and I’m glad he likes Lee.

  499. ItsMyT1me-glad you are here. I love David Cook, too, and Adam and Lee. Kinda glad they are not all releasing albums at the same time-all the hotness would cause a meltdown. So much great music!
I’m really excited that Lee is writing with Evan Bogart. All those people who tried to imply RCA wouldn’t care about Lee because AI switched to Universal were clearly wrong.

  500. ItsMyT1me:
(is that AI or Al?) – Ha the letters looks the same. Okay, is that A followed by I as in idol or l as in lamb? Thanks!

    I as in Idol. :)

  501. I think RCA knows exactly what a goldmine they have in Lee. But if they did have any doubt before 9-24-10, I’m sure 20,339 tickets changed their minds!

  502. alright, this comment was posted in the headlines thread and its just TOO funny not to share with everyone else who might not have seen it! ;)

    gangreen29:

None of the top two placing male contestants on idol are conventionally attractive. There isn’t a Carrie or McPhee in the bunch. Justin looks like Sideshow Bob. Clay and Ruben go without saying. Bo looks homeless. Taylor looks like a senior citizen. Daughtry is bald and creepy looking. Blake is chubby and looks like a rodent. Cook is balding and chubby. Archie’s testicles haven’t descended. Adam is chubby and greasy looking. Kris is balding and a borderline little person. Lee is chubby and his beard is gross.

But it’s nice that people can look past all of that and find their favorites so attractive because they enjoy their music so much.

Of course i dont agree with it all but u gotta admit its pretty dang hilarious! ;)
How can ya not find Lee & Kris adorable though? ;)

    Powter48:

Gangreen’s comment was classic and should be required reading to ALL Idol fans who take their Idols too seriously. Even Lee fans

  503. Does any one know how his pre- order album stands? Numbers-wise, I mean.

There is no real way to know. The only indicator is to watch the preorder rankings on Amazon or itunes. From what I can tell at least that it is still higher than before the album spike day but Amazon is only a small fraction of the market. You can’t see itunes rankings below 200. They do have a preorder tab in the drop down menu under music that shows Lee is one of the recent preorder bestsellers but it is hard to gauge any of that into real numbers.

ItsMyT1me, I’m so happy to see you over here :)

Thanks for the info on Evan Bogart, I’ll have to look him up. Glad to see some news start coming in on who Lee is working with. He must be hitting the studio pretty hard. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a single announcement next week.

  504. Don’t you think they might have to finish the songwriting and recording before they decide on the single? He might be writing something pretty hot with Evan Bogart as we speak! I’m impatient, too, but I want it to be great.
