Lady Gaga herself tweeted the news last night:

Living Room Concerts: MEAN GIRLS' Krystina Alabado

See you on American Idol. MAY 5th, Little Monsters.

Lady Gaga performed “Poker Face” on the Season 8 Top 9 results show, and Adam Lambert recorded her song, “Fever” for his post-Idol debut, “For Your Entertainment.”

  1. It’s kinda sad that the only performances we look forward to this year on American Idol are guest performances.

  2. It’s kinda sad that the only performances we look forward to this year on American Idol are guest performances.

Not we, you. I don’t care if Lady Gaga performs or not, but I do care about, and look forward to, what some of the contestants will be performing.

  3. Meh. I didn’t much like her but at least she has a good voice unlike most of their guests this season.

  4. Mateja- i agree. This is the second week in a row I am looking forward to Wednesdays and could give a crap about Tuesday.

I wonder though how people will react toward Alejandro if she sings it. It’s so europop it actually sounds like an ABBA ripoff. Not my favorite song on the album.

  5. Lady Gaga needs to take a break before she gets really sick. She has already passed out at several of her concerts and almost on stage once. You need to REST!!!!!

  6. It’s kinda sad that the only performances we look forward to this year on American Idol are guest performances.

Feel free to count me as part of that we. :-)

  7. Wow, love Gaga! Wonder if she will tone it down at all for idol? She was asked to tone it down for the Queen’s variety performance but she was as outrageous as ever.

  8. I love Gaga, and she will undoubtedly outshine the contestants like Adam did last week. But to be fair to them…I remember seeing Gaga in some of her first live TV, and it was a mess. In seasons past, we expected the performances of the contestants to be rough and to improve over the course of the season. Adam changed that a bit (not that I didn’t enjoy every minute). We’ve been quick to criticize the contestants for not “stepping it up”, but the show is supposed to groom these kids. I just wonder if there’s something missing backstage this year.

  9. Feel free to count me as part of that we.

There is no we, unless you are conducting a private conversation, and if so then please do it privately.

I’m finding it offensive people presuming to speak for others, denigrating the whole season and assume that this is how everyone thinks. In Season 8 there was really only Adam Lambert as the one outstanding contestant. This season to me Casey James is better than Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze better than Danny Gokey, Crystal Bowersox far far better than Alison Iraheta. I’m determined to kill this meme that this is a bad season, so don’t use “we” when there is no “we” by assuming that’s how we all think.

  10. For me, I haven’t looked forward to any of the guest performances so far other than possibly David Cook. Lady Gaga doesn’t change that.

  11. Please give the “we” people a break! It ain’t that deep. Maybe they meant to say “I”. Do I have to say IMO after every post?
    Have a wonderful day!

Well yes, Adam was exceptionally good, but we had some very polished contestants in years before season 8. And I didn’t expect to see on AI this year someone as good as Adam. But I expected better singers than the ones we have. And this show needs a few big personalities every year, but this year all of them are more or less low-key. It’s just dull.

Have to agree. The only performances I’ve cared about, in the past, on Wed.’s were Idols returning. But his year, Wed. has become my favorite night. So, I am also included in your “we.” :)

  14. There is no we, unless you are conducting a private conversation, and if so then please do it privately.

Please don’t lecture me. I believe I was very clear, as your quote of me indicates. I even bolded the me, so I don’t know how much more clearly individualized I could be.

My comment was to confirm the selectivity of “we” and identify myself as a part of that select group. Nothing more and no one else.

I will say that I find it ironic that someone who is adamant about others speaking only their own minds would “determine to kill this meme that this is a bad season” based on her (his?) own opinion that it is not. But, you go, girl (guy?)!

Studio57 – I’m only sorta familiar with ABBA. What song(s) are you referring to? I’m not making a connection, but then I don’t know much about ABBA.

  16. Koshka- mostly Fernando- she even sings the name Fernando in the song. It came on my ipod the other day and I was like WTF? Did I just get transported back to the 70’s? I don’t know- maybe it’s one of those songs I have to get used to.

  17. Koshka- mostly Fernando- she even sings the name Fernando in the song. It came on my ipod the other day and I was like WTF?

FWIW, I got the same vague feeling the first time I heard it too! I thought it was just me. :-) It’s not my fav on the Monster, but I guess it’ll do. I really am looking forward to seeing what she does this week.

  18. Springboard- it’s weird- my teenagers LOVE IIHY. They think it’s a hit and they are usually right about stuff like that. So I asked them what they thought of Bulletproof by LaRoux and Evacuate The Dancefloor by Cascada and they hated both of them!? And they hate Alejandro too! I don’t get it? They are not Adam fanatics at all, but they think Fever, IIHY and Sleepwalker should be singles, ad that IIHY is not at all like Bulletproof.

Sorry to go OT a little there- I just have a hard time telling what is post disco and what is Europop.

We’reallinnocent- I wish she would have went with Speechless- maybe that will be her winter song. That is by far my favorite.

  19. Please don’t lecture me.

Not lecturing you, just that I am precisely aware that you are making what is essentially a private conversation in a public domain for the purpose of excluding other people from that clique of “we”, while at the same time supporting that person use of a more generalised “we”. As I said, if it is private then do it privately, doing it publicly means you are deliberately doing something else, saying something else to other people, and that, I have a right to object.

It’s people who are forming little clique and somehow making the opinion of that group to become those of everyone by keep repeating the memes amongst themselves, so that their “we” becomes “we” of us all. That’s the meme I want to kill, to stop a group of people making their opinion appearing to be everyone else’s.

It’s so europop it actually sounds like an ABBA ripoff.

It’s not an ABBA ripoff, although it is Europop. ABBA has a very different sound. It just that Fernanado is mentioned in the song bringing to mind ABBA’s song Fernando (or perhaps it is a deliberate homage to the song).

  20. I’m looking forward to seeing GaGa, but I’m also looking forward to seeing how the top 7 will do. I think Casey has a chance, if he gets the right song, to really shine. Watching Lee’s progression if interesting as well. I don’t dislike this season, but I find I have to look at it with a different expectation. We had some very polished performers last year which we don’t seem to have this year, so I’m watching more for growth as opposed to be entertained. It’s not bad, it just different.

  21. I do like to Teusdays on Idol or else I wouldn’t record it. I keep hoping for something spectacular. For a moment like Casey had 2 weeks ago. And Big Mike almost had one with In the Ghetto. That is what makes Idol fun. I don’t have the anticipation for a particular singer like I did with Adam last year but that is ok. Waiting for some one to burst threw the pack and then continue to soar and soar is kind of what Idol is all about to me. That being said, I AM looking forward to seeing LG on stage. And though some of this years crop may have better voices than Kris(I am not sure I think that is true, particularly Casey) None of these people seem to know how to use their voice to its advantage like he did. Kris had a definite style. With the exception of Crystal. She knows her instrument.

Oh and personally Gaga’s alejandro song reminds me a lot of Madonna. late 80s-90s Madonna. The song is on the tip of my tongue!

  22. yay, ladygaga is in.i hope she comeup with cool song.im 18,i think IIHY is amazing, cool, fun song.teen would love to hear that, fever, sfw and …

  23. As I said, if it is private then do it privately, doing it publicly means you are deliberately doing something else.

Ok, now please do not assume and project upon me motives that I absolutely do not have. I’m a part of no clique, here or anywhere. I rarely even get by here these days, weeks, months, and when I do I typically fly through, lurk, or throw out a meaningless comment, like my first one above. This a.m., I was relaxing, had a bit more time, and came by. Now, I’m really sorry that I did, as I seem to have hit a sensitive hot button that I had no idea existed. Moving on…

It seems to me that the only private conversation going on here is your calling me out, and my responding, so I will follow your instruction and end it, now. Have a great day.

  24. Koshka- mostly Fernando- she even sings the name Fernando in the song. It came on my ipod the other day and I was like WTF? Did I just get transported back to the 70’s? I don’t know- maybe it’s one of those songs I have to get used to.

I’ll have to play one right after the other and check it out. Well..seriously, you don’t have to like everything she does. ;) At first blush, I didn’t like the song either, but its grown on my… same with telephone.

    I’m just glad she’ll be on. :)

ETA: Studio57.. LOL I listened to Fernando. Don’t get that at all. :) Maybe it is the dancy vibe that makes you think of ABBA. I think I’ll go back and listen to more ABBA music. I’ve heard this more than once, I’m just not hearing it yet. I’m sure there is some connection. Peaceout. ;)

  25. Now this is an Idol night I can skip. I’m glad they gave advance notice. I will check out the results online.

  26. Oh, Gaga. She wasn’t very good last Season. Maybe it was the staging. But the vocals seemed pre-recorded, over-processed and on a par with Paula Abdul’s vocals on her appearance. Adam was a million times better. I love Bad Romance and Speechless. But dial back the weirdness on live TV. It isn’t coming over on live TV. Big production numbers (Hello, just about everybody from the AMA awards, and don’t even talk about the musical numbers at awards shows) don’t work that well on TV. TV is not equal to a music video. Michael Jackson’s most memorable moment on TV was his solo debut of his moonwalk–and not just because it was the first time we saw it. Gotta scale it down.

  27. Hooray! I love Lady Gaga! I don’t listen to much pop music on the radio these days, but I can’t seem to stop listening to her or her Fame Monster album. It’s fantastic!

I wonder though how people will react toward Alejandro if she sings it. It’s so europop it actually sounds like an ABBA ripoff. Not my favorite song on the album.

It always reminded me of Ace of Base, which is more my generation than ABBA ever was. But Ace of Base is always a little like ABBA. So I guess it all works. I love the song however because of the easy Ace of Base comparison for me. Sounded like an awesome throwback.

  28. koshka- maybe I was just thinking Fernando because the name was in the song. It definitely reminds me of an ABBA song but I can’t remember which one. Or maybe I am just making shit up, lol! Now I gotta go play them side by side. Or not. I’d rather leave ABBA back in the 70’s ;)

St. Lucia- I think you might be right, but I don’t want to go listen to Ace Of Base either, hahahaha

    ABBA/AOB/ABBA- it’s all the same

  29. Woo hoo, a sell-out artist who converted rocker Adam Lambert to an electropop singer and is probably indirectly somewhat responsible for the popularity of that dirty skank Ke$ha who wears stupid outfits that drop the IQs of Americans everywhere. Ok, that’s probably way too harsh, I’m making her sound like the Evil Queen of the Universe and probably exaggerating her influences on those two artists (Hell, I hate electropop except when Adam does it).

I don’t give a damn what anyone says, her outfits and antics are stupid, and her electropop is equally bad. She should’ve stuck with her amazing piano stuff with amazing lyrics.

Unless she does Captivated, Electric Kiss, Speechless, or even Telephone, it’s not worth the pain.

Yes, I felt the need to be hateful just now

If anything, I like the respect she gives her fans, and she does have good musical artistry in there SOMEWHERE (sorry, I do not find her idiotic outfits and her mainstream self’s bland lyrics very artistic), but I do like Captivated, Electric Kiss, and Speechless. Telephone’s a’ight, but everything else is dull.

Also she seems like an extremely nice person. I’ve seen her behind the scenes stuff. Like her and David Archuleta. That was cute :3. It’s just too bad I don’t respect most of her music.

  30. But dial back the weirdness on live TV. It isn’t coming over on live TV. Big production numbers (Hello, just about everybody from the AMA awards, and don’t even talk about the musical numbers at awards shows) don’t work that well on TV. TV is not equal to a music video. I disagree. I LOVE performance art and can remember all of Gaga’s performances on TV. She is a great artist/musician and I’m looking forward to seeing her on Idol. If only she was mentoring…I think people would get to see what a great person she is. Many can’t get passed ridiculing her outfits to see what a gentle, unique soul she is. I love Gagita!

  31. I did not get Gaga until I saw her on Idol last year–that was the zipper eye performance right? I needed the whole visual.

  32. It’s kinda sad that the only performances we look forward to this year on American Idol are guest performances

I like a lot of the performers, I look forward to Crystal’s performances more than I have any other performers on this show in at least 4 seasons. I love Gaga too though, and she is the first guest performer this season I am very exited about.

Oh and personally Gaga’s alejandro song reminds me a lot of Madonna. late 80s-90s Madonna. The song is on the tip of my tongue!

Yes! That was the first thing I thought when I heard it. Very reminiscent of Madonna’s song La Isla Bonita

  33. jammasta: I SO agree with you about Gaga. You brought up just about everything I had wanted to express about L. Gaga yesterday, but you said it much better than my attempt in another thread. Thank you.

  34. YAY I luv her!!
her eye zipper last year was so cool

It’s kinda sad that the only performances we look forward to this year on American Idol are guest performances

    so true…

  35. Feel free to count me as part of that we.

Me too! Lady Gaga will be great! :)

I agree with you all that think the Alejandro song is reminiscent of Madonna! I thought I was the only one who was thinking that! :)

  36. Feel free to count me as part of that we.

There is no we, unless you are conducting a private conversation, and if so then please do it privately.

I’m finding it offensive people presuming to speak for others, denigrating the whole season and assume that this is how everyone thinks.

Wow, overreacting much? She was just saying that she too was among the people who don’t like this year’s performers. No need to get defensive.

Anyway, I agree that the guest performers are more interesting than any of the competitors this year, sadly.

  37. Oh and personally Gaga’s alejandro song reminds me a lot of Madonna. late 80s-90s Madonna. The song is on the tip of my tongue!

LOL I thought I was the only one who thought she was trying to project Madonna.

I like the Lady Gaga on stage but I don’t like the fact that she seems to stretch her on stage persona, off stage as well. I am not talking about the dress up, I am fine with what she wears. I just find her hard to connect to on a personal level somehow.. I used to follow her on twitter, but over time I got a bit irritated by her cos I felt her she was always putting up a front (it must be so exhausting… ) and it all felt like an act.

I hated the nickname she gave her fans – ‘Oh my little monsters’…eeekkkkk…. that was the last straw… I unfollowed her after that. I don’t think stars should give nicknames to their fans.

    Hakunamatata (aka LazycOw)

  38. Wow, overreacting much? She was just saying that she too was among the people who don’t like this year’s performers. No need to get defensive.

I wasn’t going to comment any further, because to do so would probably break ten of MJ’s rules, but I wasn’t being defensive, and she wasn’t just saying that. If you haven’t noticed, quite a few people were saying exactly the same thing as she did, doing it the same way, jumping to announce that they are part of the “we”. That’s just part of the group dynamics, and what she (and others) isn’t saying just that, they are saying something more. It’s their way of countering what I said, and supporting the original comment. I have no problem with people wanting to counter what I said, what I did was merely pointing out why it was done. Other people in this thread have said they prefer the guests without deliberately joining into this “we” business, and those I have certainly have no problem with. If people don’t like what they did being pointed out, then don’t do it, and don’t pretend that it wasn’t being done, especially when it is so blatantly obvious it was being done, and by so many.

  39. Hazehel, but really don’t think when the poster first made that comment it was supposed to be that DEEP.

  40. Someone agrees with me! Thank you!

Hakunamatata: Really? I honestly thought that was kinda sweet and pretty cool of her. To me, it showed an endearing respect to her fans >_>, and it was the only good I got out of Lady GaGa performing on Idol.

*insert obligatory rant against GaGa since I just defended her*

  41. Hakunamatata: Really? I honestly thought that was kinda sweet and pretty cool of her. To me, it showed an endearing respect to her fans >_>,

Me too. I guess though that I read the nickname in context with what LG has said in interviews about how she always felt like a freak growing up and she wants to support and empower her younger fans who may be feeling the same way. But, I can see it the other way too. It just doesn’t bother me.

And, thank you Sherena and others. My original, passing comment was, as you point out, not that deep. It boggles my mind that some anonymous someone thinks they know my mind and intent better than I do, and that there would be such sensitivity about alleged “group dynamics” on a Lady Gaga thread of all places. An Adam thread, perhaps, a Kris Allen thread, maybe, a David Cook thread, most definitely, but here? I don’t get it.

FWIW, I also don’t get the apparent need to control others in conversation. I’ve never seen MJ’s as that kind of place at all. Like I say, I assume I’ve missed something major here in recent past. Or else, I’ve unwittingly offended someone in the past, and if so, I apologize for whatever that was…

Sorry for the meta discussion, mj, and feel free to delete. It really did bother me yesterday to be jumped on for no apparent reason, to be lectured, and for motives (that I don’t have) to be assumed and then judged and condemned. Guess it’s a great lesson in why you have the rules that you do.

    With that, I’m outta here.
