Kris Allen – Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade – VIDEO

UPDATE: Better quality vid turned up! Check it out.

Super-terrible quality version of Kris Allen performing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” on today’s Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade.

If a better quality vid turns up I will post it! But, in these waning moments of Christmas 2009, I wanted to acknowledge Kris’s performance today in some way…

Hope you all had a great day! I sure did.

  • Check out this post for a vid of Kris and his band taken by a fan who attended the taping.

  1. Thanks for giving Kris a thread, MJ. I hope you’re enjoying the holiday!

This was such a fun performance. I love Kris’ band too.

  2. After hearing that I think Kris could do very well in Country music. I always did hear kind of a whine or twain in his voice. Looked like a fun day.

  3. Awesome performance. Thank you mj for taking time out of your day to post this. :)

  4. Seriously, for all the freaking money Disney has they sure did such a shi**y job with this show. LOL Kris was definitely the highlight. He looked so cute and sounded amazing. His band is so cute, too. I couldn’t believe Celine Dion was just lip synching to her CD. haha It was pretty ridiculous.

    Thanks for posting! (:

  5. Thanks for this thread mj!!! Merry Christmas (15 more min.)!!

I was just on YT right before you posted (or after or during) looking for a link to post in headlines. This was the only one I found as well, and here it is!!

Our family watched this this morning and they (Kris and band) a fabulous job!!

  6. Awww, this was a nice Krismas present this morning. Watched it with my hubby since no one else was up yet. I liked that they got the best of Kris and his smiling face, but I think I prefer the older YT versions (from fans) because they focused totally on Kris! We didn’t watch the entire parade, but from what I saw, he was a definite highlight. Now off to watch the repeat on Letterman.

  7. The repeat on Letterman, just as good as the first! ;) Hee! Wow, I got to see Kris on my TV twice on one waking day….

ETA: Ratna, that coverage of Chick-ful-a was interesting and nice!! Thanks for posting.

  8. Kris and the band did a very good job! I really enjoyed this version of the song. I hope a better video turns up soon! Thanks, mj!!

I think this video of The Christmas Song from Hartford is new, the audio is awesome!!!

    Although it’s been said
    Many times, Many ways
Merry Christmas to (all of) you!!!

^^^I know–what a great day! :-) Happy Holidays everyone (and it finally started snowing so we got a white Christmas afterall–so pretty!)!

  10. Great performance. I still can’t believe he can get me to listen to Christmas music. To quote Steve Agee “it’s like sending your ears to prison.” At least he makes the stay tolerable.

Oh yeah, they are very conservative. I think it’s cool that they honor the Sabath, but I have trouble with a lot of their other policies, and where the CEO puts his $. A little too much for me. I don’t eat there, no matter how good those waffle fries are. I wish that had been a little less of a puff piece. C’mon 60 minutes!

  11. Wow! I am impressed:) He really sounded GREAT! I was bopping along while watching! Kris is such a cool guy, how does anyone find a negative thing to say about him?

  12. Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!
Just my $.02, but if 19 is smart, Kris will put out a jazzy Christmas CD next year, a’ la Archuleta. Kris appears to be a superb arranger, and his holiday music is great. If it is sort of stripped down, just not over-produced, would really stand out among all the others. Please, please, please….
Ratna, thanks for the Chick-Fil-A link. My nieces earned college scholarships by working through high school, and my oldest son bought his first car with his CFA paychecks, even wearing the cow suit in the mall a time or two. A dear friend is an owner-operator upstate. We LOVE CFA in our family. The food is great, too, and the drive-throughs are legendary for swift, polite, excellent service. I totally think Kris and CFA need to get together professionally in some way.

  13. Love Kris’ Christmas songs he’s done! My favorite is The Christmas Song he did on the Bonnie Hunt show, but I’ve enjoyed them all. I, too, wish he would put out a Christmas album or at least a few singles we could get from iTunes.

Looking forward to a great 2010 for Kris! Got the dvr all set for the NYE special!

  14. Great and fun performance!
    Awwww…Kris is so handsome
Andrew did a very fun guitar solo on this. He’s a very skilled guitarist. Him and Ryland were twitting about listening to some Monk recently. I wouldn’t be surprised if his first passion was jazz; jazz guitarists are among the best there is

  15. Just in case anyone didn’t see this really really cute picture posted in the headlines thread http://es.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=vdcswx&s=6

    Thanks, what a great pic.

He’s awesome, I can’t wait to hear more from him.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I give Kris a lot of credit for choosing Andrew as his lead guitarist, I believe he knew just what he was doing. When I heard the first posted version of the Christmas Song, this was brought home to me. I really hope this band stays together for a long, long time. :D

  17. Love this, but I had to laugh, if you watch the video on Youtube taken from someone in the audience, you can see it was dark and overcast the day they taped it. But of course there’s only blue skies in Disney World.

  18. The blue/grey skies thing.

I think it’s cool that they honor the Sabath, but I have trouble with a lot of their other policies, and where the CEO puts his $.

Don’t take this the wrong way because I’m just curious, but how does anybody know this stuff…e.g., where the CEO puts his money? It seems like it would be his prerogative anyway. I love CFA, and I have never gotten anything but great customer service from them. As a Christian it’s pretty cool to me that they honor the Sabbath. And I too think Kris should be their spokesperson.

I was hoping a new video had popped up. I was too busy to record the parade.

And how about those AOL Sessions? Duh.

  19. Hey, I was just checking the live feed on Itunes (for those who get into this…like me!). I just don’t see that the Christmas songs hurt Kris that much, and he isn’t lagging so far behind on his album now. Here’s the scoop:

    POP:
    Single: 14, 172 (AL is 26/44)
    Album: 25/132 (AL is 13/17)

    OVERALL:
    Single: 28 (AL is 105/146)
    Album: 115 (AL is 108/133)

  20. POP:
    Single: 14, 172 (AL is 26/44)
    Album: 25/132 (AL is 13/17)

    OVERALL:
    Single: 28 (AL is 105/146)
    Album: 115 (AL is 108/133)

ok so wait, diane, his single is #14 or 28? and his album #25 or 115? ha sorry i don’t know how to read those. :] and don’t forget everyone to vote for kris’s music video to make it number one!! click the link to vote!

    http://www.vh1.com/shows/series/top_20_countdown/vote.jhtml

  21. payton, his single overall on Itunes is #28. His single on the pop chart of Itunes is #14.

BUT!!!!!!!! I just checked the live feed again, and his overall single went from #28 to #23!

  22. Kris is a nice guy, but I have never found anything that unique or special about his voice.

  23. I really enjoyed this performance. I have it saved on my DVR :) I really like to see and listen to Kris sing. To me his voice is warm, inviting and sexy. Listening to him sing always makes me feel good. I really like to see all the guys in the band having fun performing together.

  24. MissM, I can’t get that video to work. Sadz! I’ll keep trying.

gulfluv, well put. I personally think Kris is just gonna keep getting better and better (if that’s possible).

  25. Thanks for the video! I love his timing in this song. Something I’ve felt since I saw him sing MITM so long ago is that Kris has an unusually good sense of rhythm. Not another singer in the Top 10 last year had that. Few people who comment on AI ever talk about rhythm as it relates to singing. Maybe they don’t notice it.

  26. ross, they don’t notice a lot of things we notice.

    :) :) :)

Seriously, what kind of beat is that (in this number)? Is it a bit funky, or what? Anyhow, I love it.

I like “rhythmic” music like swing or Motwn or r&b or old fashioned Elvis style rock and roll, which is one reason I like Kris. Not that he sings in any one of those styles, but he’s in the tradition of that kind of rhythm, and I just love it. I like tapping my feet. Kris is different from Adam, Allison, Danny, Anoop, etc., in this way. Rhythm. Matt comes closest to Kris in that.

Most people can’t analyze music very well. If someone sings high and then low, they obviously have a big range. But syncopation? Most people don’t get what’s going on.

Kris did great, and I agree that his use of different rhythms and phrasing enhances his performances of covers. The thing about Kris, for me, is that it’s completely about the music. It’s not about camera angles or drama. He’s the front man for the group here, but he defers to others for their riffs because it’s about making a great song, not showing off the singer.

That was another great performance by Kris (et al).

  28. Ross and Suzanne, I so agree! It’s that touch of jazzy syncopation that Kris likes to add to songs that really makes me love him. I was almost swooning at Ryland’s drum solo, not to mention the guitar solo. I agree, it’s not about making himself look good, it’s about making the music fit his vision and making it the best it can be. When can we get these guys to play a whole live set, already?!

  29. Does anyone have any thoughts on why I can’t watch this video?! I can’t view it on Youtube, and I can’t view it here (in case you missed it, MJ put the better quality vid up). I have IE 8 and I’m in the US. I’ve never had this problem before, so I’m baffled!

  30. Glad to hear you had a Happy Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s too!

yes! that’s awesome!!! GO KRIS. now if it will only get out of the 20’s and into the teens hahaha :]

  32. I don’t know Diane. I have IE8 and am in the US as well. It works fine for me. Strange you can’t see it.

  33. To the person that said he found nothing special in Kris’ voice, I appreciate your opinion but I think Kris has an unique voice. My gf has never heard Kris’ album before, I was playing it on the car the other day and she asked if it was Kris and said “He sure has a distinctive voice.”

  34. I would love for Kris to make a Christmas album! But, I’m positive I read somewhere that he didn’t have any interest in doing one. Maybe he’ll change his mind. ;) He has spoiled me with The Christmas Song, I can’t stand listening to anyone else sing it but him. <3

  35. Awww, that makes me sad to think he won’t put out a Christmas CD! :(

Thanks for posting the better version of the X-mas parade performance mj!

One thing I missed on the version that was on TV vs the ones live posted at the beginning of Dec. was the hearing the crowd sing along.

ETA: thanks for the cute interview payton, I remember that from the tour! So adorkable!

  36. payton, someone said the live feed is not accurate, e.g. if you use 200 in the link. I used 199 and LLWD was at 28. Oh well. He’s still hanging in there! His single is at 28 and AL’s are at 103 and 147. Kris’s album is at 175 and AL’s is at 125 and 165. I feel really good about Kris’s numbers right now.

As for the Christmas EP or record, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made one next year. We’ll have to start bugging him in late summer! Gotta love twitter.

Oh, I have to share this (so glad we have a fairly current Kris thread!): I was replaying parts of the AMAs for my kids tonight and finally came to AL’s performance. My son said he didn’t get Adam because he doesn’t have a great voice (that’s what he said!) and that he was basically a performer as opposed to a singer. Green Day was on and he commented that theirs was a classic, solid performance. Then I skipped to the KAB on Letterman, and my son said, yeah, another classic performance. IMO Kris doesn’t need all the theatrics … he’s got it without all that.

  37. The thing about Kris, for me, is that it’s completely about the music. It’s not about camera angles

Kris would do well to worry more about the camera angles. Everything needs to be done in a balance, but self promotion is a necessary evil. If he doesn’t like it he’d best go back to singing in a garage band.

  38. The thing about Kris, for me, is that it’s completely about the music. It’s not about camera angles

Kris would do well to worry more about the camera angles. Everything needs to be done in a balance, but self promotion is a necessary evil. If he doesn’t like it he’d best go back to singing in a garage band

I don’t think Kris needs to worry about camera angles..he just needs to sing like hes been doing, and I think the cameramen have been doing fine with the shots theyve been getting while hes been performing. As for the part I bolded about if he doesn’t like it he better go back to singing in a garage band…where does that come from? No one said he doesn’t like it, I don’t understand why people are always putting words in these idols mouths.

  39. Yikes koshka, “Kris would do well to worry about the camera angles?” He’s got no worries with the camera. They could shoot him upside down and it wouldn’t matter. The camera LOVES him at every freaking angle.

He is so in his element when he is singing and playing. That totally comes across in every performance. I mean even when he’s sitting on a stool while playing, there’s some serious stool humping going on that can’t be helped. OMG, the thought of that is just too much! LOL!

Kris is seriously too hot from his eyelashes to his hairy feet.

  40. I was taking “camera angles” as a metaphor for publicity, which is how I took the OP comments. I didn’t say that he didn’t like the camera, I don’t know Kris. With this in mind, he does need to make the most of his publicity, IF he doesn’t like it, yes, he should go back to a garage band. I use the word ‘I’ literally unlike many others who post. Being on a major label means self publicizing.. actually being on any label means self-publicizing.

  41. Kris has an unusually good sense of rhythm. Not another singer in the Top 10 last year had that. Few people who comment on AI ever talk about rhythm as it relates to singing. Maybe they don’t notice it.

I’ve always noticed that about Kris too, which is one of the many reasons I think he’ll win people over easily as a musician. I think Matt Giraud also had a good sense of rhythm.

  42. I agree with people saying he has an amazing sense of rhythm. It shows in his singing but i first noticed it with his guitar playing. Guitar solo might be more impressive but it does take a lot of skills to play rhythmic guitar. I’ve witnessed a lot in that area – my ex was super skilled with it (start playing with a band at the age of 13 and later on decided he didn’t want to have a life playing in bars and decided to have a different career) and he had a friend who had amazing solo skills. They just couldn’t match each other own skills (hope i make myself understood here).

Yes, Kris has a very distinctive voice. No way i could hear him on the radio and not know it’s him :D

  43. Kris would do well to worry more about the camera angles. Everything needs to be done in a balance, but self promotion is a necessary evil. If he doesn’t like it he’d best go back to singing in a garage band.

Kris was never in a garage band. He was never in a band, as far as I know, other than the orchestra he played viola in for several years.

I also don’t understand why you turned a person’s complimentary words into a criticism of Kris that has absolutlely nothing to do what the original poster was trying to say.

    The original poster wrote:

The thing about Kris, for me, is that it’s completely about the music. It’s not about camera angles or drama. He’s the front man for the group here, but he defers to others for their riffs because it’s about making a great song, not showing off the singer.

You then wrote the “garage band” comment and defended it this way:

I was taking ‘camera angles’ as a metaphor for publicity, which is how I took the OP comments.

The OP was just saying that Kris’s performance style is not about camera angles and drama, i. e., he’s a straightforward performer, and a good frontman in that he doesn’t hog the spotlight and defers gladly the members of his band when they’re performing solos. This is standard operating procedure for a singer with a band, and I can’t see any big deal to be made of it.

It was not, as far as I can tell, a metaphor for publicity. And I really don’t think Kris self-publicizes any less than a lot of other artists. How does David Archuleta self-publicize, or Jordin Sparks, or David Cook, any different from Kris? Kris has been doing tons of promotional appearances, interviews, and performances. That’s about all he can do, and I think he does a good job at it.

  44. Amen Ross I so totally agree with that. I also love how much better Kris sounds with a band with him. They to me seem like they’ve been together along time. I really love the whole band but my personal favorites are Kris of course, Cale and Andrew, even thou I do like Chris and Ryland also but the three that interest me the most are the 3 I mentioned above. Am totally crushing on Andrew even thou Kris is still my favorite. I like how Andrew seems to look like his really impressed with Kris. And I love how much Cale and Kris seem to totally enjoy being in the band together. I think Kris seems like a totally different performer since Idol and Idol tour. I’ve seen alot of growth with him and it makes me so happy. I just wonder when well get are AOL Session, I want to hear Kris sing Red Guitar so bad.

  45. I was replaying parts of the AMAs for my kids tonight and finally came to AL’s performance. IMO Kris doesn’t need all the theatrics ‘ ¦ he’s got it without all that.

Well, it’s been acknowledged by pretty well everyone, including Adam himself, that his singing was off at the AMAs so if that’s the only time your son has heard him sing, I can understand why he doesn’t think Adam has a great voice.

As for the theatrics vs no theatrics issue, I don’t feel it’s necessary to keep rehashing the fact that Kris and Adam are totally different types of singers. Do people complain that Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler and Lady GaGa are overly dramatic and theatrical in their performance styles? Do folks tend to say Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Melissa Etheridge or David Cook don’t need theatrics to give good performances? The answer is no and no because these two groups have inherently different ways of singing that work for them. It isn’t even a matter of “needing theatrics” or “not needing theatrics”. That’s just the way they are; trying to adopt a different style just wouldn’t make sense for them.

Btw, it’s kind of ironic what your son said about Green Day and KAB giving “classic performances” while proclaiming Adam as a performer rather than a singer. Really, neither he nor anyone else needs to justify why they don’t care for someone’s singing. It’d be a really boring world if everyone had exactly the same tastes.

    I’ve noticed that, too!

Funny, when I met these guys (all except Cale) they were all more attractive and charismatic than on TV or YouTube. And really friendly. The good impression they make is worth a lot, I think, career-wise.

I think Kris seems like a totally different performer since Idol and Idol tour. I’ve seen alot of growth with him and it makes me so happy. I just wonder when well get are AOL Session, I want to hear Kris sing Red Guitar so bad.

He seems much more free. I guess he literally is more free, he’s no longer playing his part on a reality TV show, and the AI tour and recording of the album are done. And he must be happy with his band and getting to perform songs from his own album. How awesome that must be.

AOL session — I know, right? Grrr. I want to hear them, too. If they happen in January, though, that will be a plus, because he will get some attention during a fallow period.

  47. Kris was never in a garage band. He was never in a band, as far as I know, other than the orchestra he played viola in for several years.

I also don’t understand why you turned a person’s complimentary words into a criticism of Kris that has absolutlely nothing to do what the original poster was trying to say.

My thoughts…. you can take them or leave them. And for the record, I’m not insulting Kris or criticizing him. I’d say that about anyone that is on AI that wants a contract and gets one. Hell, I’d say the same thing to anyone that wants to have a record. It is all about self promotion. And MY OPINION, which you can also take or leave, is that Kris doesn’t avoid publicity, but is not yet at home with it. He does an adequate job.

    Meh. whatever.

  48. I love how Kris can stand up on stage with just a guitar and sing and sound totally amazing. It’s what I love most about him. <3

He has grown so much. I've never felt he doesn't want publicity. He's just a little shy, but he is getting more and more comfortable as time goes on. He's come a long way, imo.

  49. I don’t think Kris has ever not wanted publicity. He is a little shy, but he has has come a long way, imo. He’s grown so much since AI. He’s been all over here recently doing his best to get himself and his music out there.

  50. My thoughts’ ¦. you can take them or leave them. He does an adequate job.

koshka, we all simply have our different tastes in the styles we are drawn to. To me every time Kris performs he is selling himself by telling me how much he simply loves doing exactly what he’s doing. His blatant love of music and performing it with sincerity is all I need to know. I’m pretty much blown away each time.

My 17 yr. old nephew watched some of his acoustic sets with me this evening and he loved the simplicity of it.

It’s fine to have different tastes, this is a diverse world.

  51. Kris was never in a garage band. He was never in a band, as far as I know, other than the orchestra he played viola in for several years.

I believe Kris did have a band. After all, he WAS playing gigs in local venues in Arkansas and I don’t think he was playing solo. From Wikipedia (not sure how accurate this is): “Kris Allen’s musical career began in 2007, when he wrote and self-produced an album entitled Brand New Shoes with college friends and bandmates Michael Holmes (drums) and Chase Erwin (bass).”

It is all about self promotion.

There’s more than one way to self-promote. Every time Kris does an interview, he’s essentially self-promoting. I don’t think I understand your critic- I mean “comment” about Kris. Has he ever cancelled interviews or gigs for no apparent reason? mjsbigblog has documented a ton of media interviews and appearances by Kris since Idol.

  52. I believe Kris did have a band. After all, he WAS playing gigs in local venues in Arkansas and I don’t think he was playing solo. From Wikipedia (not sure how accurate this is): ‘Kris Allen’s musical career began in 2007, when he wrote and self-produced an album entitled Brand New Shoes with college friends and bandmates Michael Holmes (drums) and Chase Erwin (bass).’

First, yes, he was playing solo sometimes.

And, I see what your’e saying, but, no, I don’t think that’s the definition of a “garage band,” as I understand the term. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t wasn’t a frontman for a band. He appeared as a singer and he had backup, which is different. I think when he appeared, it was as “Kris Allen,” which to me indicates he was the attraction, not a band with a lead singer. His album was “Brand New Shoes — Kris Allen”. No band name mentioned, not even “Kris Allen and band”. So, yeah, singers need backup bands but that doesn’t mean they’re “in” bands.

Anyhow, the poster was saying Kris can go back to being in a garage band and the way I see it he was never in a band. He was a singer.

To me every time Kris performs he is selling himself by telling me how much he simply loves doing exactly what he’s doing. His blatant love of music and performing it with sincerity is all I need to know. I’m pretty much blown away each time.

That was very well put and it’s how I feel.

I’m always curious what people think Kris should do to “promote himself” other than perform well, and do his thing in TV and radio interviews. Any suggestions? I have noticed that those who are indifferent to Kris or who rarely bother to actually listen to any of his interviews seem to be the ones who tend to state he isn’t promoting himself enough.

He’s done many, many in-studio radio interviews, he’s done phone interviews, he’s played Jingle Balls and Christmas concerts, TV shows and whatever. He’s flown back and forth promoting himself and his album for weeks. And in his interviews he almost always charms whoever he’s talking to, and is often funny. He never gives performing or interviewing anything less than a full effort — he works his butt off. When I met him a few weeks ago he was more than willing to spend time talking, and meeting a fan, even though he was probably in a hurry to be somewhere else, and tired. I guess that’s all I can say about it. If you think that an adequate job, koshka, well, I disagree with you, I guess.

  53. I’m always curious what people think Kris should do to ‘promote himself’ other than perform well, and do his thing in TV and radio interviews. Any suggestions?

Show some enthusiasm. That is my suggestion.

Me thinks that we need a new season.

  54. Be more enthusiastic. That is my suggestion.

I guess I don’t see that Kris isn’t enthusiastic. I always laugh at that description of him. He’s not an attention whore. He’s not going to go Hollywood. He’s enthused about performing his music, and music in general. To me that means he’s genuine. If that’s a liability, so be it. I don’t happen to think it is. He can’t be what he isn’t. I like someone who doesn’t bullshit me with a lot of hype, but I know other people have different opinions.

  55. Sorry, I misquoted you — you actually said, “Show some enthusiasm. That is my suggestion.”

  56. He is enthusiastic. He’s just more laid back-just being himself. If he wasn’t enthused about what he was doing he wouldn’t be working so hard at it. You can tell he loves every minute of it when he’s performing.

  57. I think his very enthusiastic, when he did the one show the other night and sang CSA he was getting down and dirty with his bad ass. When he sings you can tell his all into his performance. He came along ways since Idol and the Idol Tour. His gotten alot and I mean alot better in interviews. When Kris sings he pulls me into his music. And makes me have a smile on my face he also makes me feel like his pulling me into the song with him. On the show he sneak up on me and once he did that was it, I was so hooked. Before I started liking Kris I was a big Danny and Adam fan. Then Kris became my favorite and Adam my second. That’s why I was so happy they were the finally two.
