Kris Allen: Ready to Name His Album

Photo: From the photo shoot for Kris Allen’s upcoming album

Brand-spanking new interviews with Kris Allen, just for you!   Kris’s album drops   on November 17.

Kris interviewed with 104.3 Valentine in the morning today:

Kris Allen – Valentine

  • The name of Kris’s upcoming album will be decided in the next couple of days.   Oh, watch, it’ll be self-titled!
  • Kris was NOT invited to Simon Cowell’s birthday party, even though he was in London last week recording tunes for his album.   He did have dinner with 19 chief, Simon Fuller.
  • The album photo shoot is done.

Plus, Michael Slezak of Entertainment Weekly did a phone interview with Kris (accidentally hanging up on him at one point!)

  • The video for “Live Like We’re Dying” may be shot this weekend, directed by Marco Puig.

  • On working with Chris Daughtry, “Chris is great. He reached out to me early on, during the show, I think during top-4 week. He gave me his number and was telling me if I needed anything to just give him a call. He was a really, really nice guy, and he kind of knew what I was going through, and was just kind of rooting for me. And now we have the same manager, so that makes it easy.”
  • Kris mentions working with Kevin Rudolph recently, and that he and Joe King from the Fray will be going back into the studio to work on tracks they’ve already written.
  • He’s pushing for a song he wrote pre-Idol called “Red Guitar”.   He’s working on that track with producer, Mike Flynn. “It was fun to be in the studio and working with a producer who sees your vision for a song you wrote, ” says Kris.
  • Kris wrote a couple of songs with Eg White while he was in London, one he thinks is really really good. He also wrote with Andrew Frampton, who co-wrote “Live Like We’re Dying”.

  1. Ugh, debut albums from talent show stars are almost always self-titled (except for Blake, I think). Then they get this generic cover with just a very serious picture and their name with a big font that they feel expresses the genre. It’s just life-less.

I know it might be for marketing reasons, but to me, it makes them even less authentic, few solo artist use their name for their debut albums.

However, that’s a nice pic. Kris could have easily been a model.

  2. So much Kris news! So exciting and with that picture which is pretty darn hot, and pretty darned pretty and should (probably will, right?) be his album cover.

As to the album title, anything, but Kris Allen and I’ll be fine. So tired of the self-titled post AI albums. I know I know, capitalize on the AI name recognition thing, but c’mon, some semblence of originality. In any event guess we’ll know in a few days.

Not sure how I feel about the Red Guitar thing, not a huge fan of Brand New Shoes, but I’m heartened that Kris isn’t either, and this seems like it was after that. So I expect it would be pretty good, cool he got to record it.

And good news about the music video!

    So much info.

  3. ok that is THE best Kris pic ever!!!!!

yep I’m expecting Kris Allen as the album title

although if he use his name he should use Kristopher….lol…and yes I just like typing kristipher as much as possible;)

  4. Can you talk about some of your favorites that you’ve recorded so far?
Probably, but they’re not on the album for sure.

Argh! This is a drag. Purty photo, though. Really well done.

  5. Sucks for Kris that the label/management has so much control. I hope he is at least enjoying the attention for now. Hopefully he can release the music he wants to on his second album.

  6. As to the album title, anything, but Kris Allen and I’ll be fine. So tired of the self-titled post AI albums. I know I know, capitalize on the AI name recognition thing, but c’mon, some semblence of originality. In any event guess we’ll know in a few days.

I predict “Kris Allen,” “Adam Lambert,” and, for a big change, “Allison” and “Danny.”

  7. PLAID!!! What an awesome name for an album. Of course, only Idolholics will get the joke..

I guess it will be called KRIS ALLEN. Love the yellow. What a beautiful man.

  8. I love that picture of Kris.

Anyway, I also expect the album will be self-titled, but I REALLY hope it isn’t!

  9. Here’s some suggestions for Kris’ album name from MTV.com’s Jim Cantiello:

Kris Allen’s Album Doesn’t Have A Title Yet, But MTV News Can Help!

Since I’ve got the Kris Allen beat covered here at MTV News (perhaps too covered, my therapist says) I thought it’d be fun to make a list of five potential album Titles Kris Allen should avoid at all costs.

    1. Little Rock

    2. Allentown

    3. Kris Allen Sings Ryan Tedder Songs That All Sound Vaguely Similar And Familiar

    4. Not Adam Lambert

    5. Jim Cantiello’s Sneakers Rule

  10. Can you talk about some of your favorites that you’ve recorded so far?

Probably, but they’re not on the album for sure.

The kid is a natural-born salesman.

  11. Titles for the album from Cantiello:

    3. Awesome.

    4. Not Adam Lambert

OH, JIM. SNARK SNARK SNARK (yep, there is a tweet from me a comin’).

That interview was GREAT. Best moment:

Suggestion for a song title: ME.

    LOL

Kris sounds better and better with each interview. KRIS FTW!

  12. Now that I’m done flailing, Kris’s tendency to use “me and XX” when speaking, kind of annoys me. I know it’s just me, but sigh, I wish he’d stop it.

  13. Oo well isn’t that bout the prettiest picture you ever did see!

  14. Such a beautiful photo of Kris!
I don’t care what the album’s called – “Kris Allen” works for me. I just want to hear it :-)

  15. Now THIS is what a bathroom photo should look like!

    Watch and learn- Adomofficial crew!

  16. Such a beautiful photo of Kris!

I think that’s a really great photo. Not just in that Kris looks quite good in it, but that I think it’s actually a really good picture. Very nicely done.

  17. In a few recent photos Kris looks like more like David Archuleta than he does himself. Could be just me. Ha! ha! P.s. that’s a compliment

  18. The kid is a natural-born salesman.

I think he’s very friendly with Slezak, but he should watch what he says (and I’m a fan). Slezak is a reporter first and foremost. Kris needs a crash course in bullshitting.

  19. is that part of the album cover shoot?. did it leak?. it’s really nice.

  20. HWC

If you bothered to read the whole interview, you’d see that Kris actually went into a fair amount of detail. He mentioned a new song that he wrote “Red Guitar” that he is pushing to make the album. He again brought up “I Need to Know” as one of his favorite songs that he is hoping will make the album. He talked about writing with Daughtry, Joe King, Eg White and Andrew Frampton.

The album tracks haven’t been finalized yet — that’s why he is saying he can’t really talk about what’s going to be on the album — he might end up talkign about some song that then doesn’t make the cut.

Sometimes your snark is funny, but not today…today — on a day we are getting actual legitimate news about Kris’ album and his music video shoot — the snark is just tired…

  21. “And now we have the same manager (as Chris Daughtry), so that makes it easy.’

So Kris is being managed by Fuller?

    Interesting.

  22. Chjris Daughtry is listed on Simon Fuller’s roster, but he also has a different manager who handles the day-to-day stuff. Thanks likely the case with Kris (and Adam)n as well — technically they are managed by Fuller, but someone else actually does the day-to-day hands-on stuff.

  23. Over in the other thread the discussion points to Kris (and Daughtry) being directly managed by someone who reports to Fuller.

I have a little crush on that picture, so thanks for using it MJ. LOL

I’ll be impressed if they manage to think outside the box (in AI terms anyway) and give Kris’ album a title OTHER than his name :)

  24. Can you talk about some of your favorites that you’ve recorded so far?

Probably, but they’re not on the album for sure.

The kid is a natural-born salesman.

geez, hwc, you gave me a laughter fit. By chance i wasn’t driking anything hot at that moment so i didn’t hurt myself.

Laughing aside, eewww… i wonder if he’s not been misquoted. If not, oh my, there is a lot to say about this..

  25. I am so happy with all these news!
I like a lot that the album is “very guitar-driven and very piano-driven”
I like that his collaboration with Joe King continues (we haven’t heard a lot about it lately since it happened early in the summer). That means that is going well.
I am a fun of BNS. But since Kris isn’t and he really likes “Red Guitar” that means that this is an even better song which makes me even more excited (lol, i hope i made my point clear). Some fans speculate that the song might be about the guitar he gave away on one of his mision trips. I will be very excited if that is true.
The photo is amazing. However, since it was posted on his facebook I don’t think it can be the album’s cover, right? (unfortunatelly)

    Jim Cantiello is hilarious

  26. IIRC, there was much discussion of Fuller “personally” managing Adam as he manages Carrie, Daughtry and David Cook. Cook and Daughtry both have ‘day to day’ managers, too. Kellie Pickler and Ruben are also managed by 19M and are not considered part of the Fuller 3 — as it’s a different type of management situation. So if Kris is part of that group, good for him.

We know that all 3: Allison, Kris and Adam are will 19M – which rolls into 19E which is run by Simon Fuller.

  27. Title: Man in the Mirror. I know that was taken but for a song, not an album. ;-)

  28. Laughing aside, eewww’ ¦ i wonder if he’s not been misquoted. If not, oh my, there is a lot to say about this..

It reads oddly in print, but I think he meant his faves are not on the album for certain. Not that they are definitely not on the album (if that’s what you read it as…and I did at first glance!)

  29. “Kellie Pickler and Ruben are also managed by 19M and are not considered part of the Fuller 3 ‘” as it’s a different type of management situation.”

Kellie Pickler has never been managed by 19M – well not since her season’s AI tour. When she started she was managed by Hoffman Entertainment. She eventually changed management and is now managed by Fitzgerald Hartley.

As far as Kris and Chris I believe they’re both managed by Stirling McIlwaine of 19 who reports directly to Simon Fuller. McIlwaine was Chris’s manager right out of AI.

Carrie’s day to day 19 person is Ann Edelblute and that’s been the case since her season of AI.

  30. Very excited and I hope we get to hear all the songs Kris wants on his album. I have never been this enthused about a cd in awhile. I absolutely love this interview and Slezaks. They are all sorts of awesome! I am all giddy yay! Ok now back to work.

  31. Some fans speculate that the song might be about the guitar he gave away on one of his mision trips. I will be very excited if that is true.

His guitar he gave away wasn’t red. But as a hint…in his apartment you would probably find a red guitar right now, but it isn’t Kris’. Although you could say partly owns it.

  32. Chris tweeted about the collaboration:

@CHRIS_Daughtry So as you know…the rumor about me writing with Kris Allen for his record is true! Fingers crossed it makes the record:) It’s a good one!!

  33. This Slezak interview is great, he always gets so much information out of Kris. I am so excited to hear the songs that he’s worked on with Joe King and with Chris Daughtry/Mike Elizondo. I love it that Kris has formed such a good relationship with Joe King, I wonder if he can turn that into a possible opportunity to tour with The Fray.

Even in print, it’s clear that Kris is very excited about this album, and I can’t wait until it is released.

  34. His guitar he gave away wasn’t red. But as a hint’ ¦in his apartment you would probably find a red guitar right now, but it isn’t Kris’. Although you could say partly owns it.

Hmm, who are you, stirling? ;) (Don’t answer that) I love Kris riddles, anyone got an insight here?

  35. Title: Man in the Mirror. I know that was taken but for a song, not an album.

That’s what I was thinking. He can include his cover of “Man in the Mirror” on the album and make it all (including that lovely picture) fit perfectly.

Very interesting news that he is being managed by Simon Fuller. Yeah, I don’t care about who his day-to-day manager is, because there’s been tons of speculation that Adam alone from this year’s crop would be a Simon Fuller managee, just like Carrie, Chris and Cook, and just as SashaB has noted. If Kris fits in that category, too, I consider that very good news. Simon Fuller’s group seems to get the best attention. And that would be great for Kris.

  36. It reads oddly in print, but I think he meant his faves are not on the album for certain. Not that they are definitely not on the album (if that’s what you read it as’ ¦and I did at first glance!)

i guess you’re right Michelle, at the moment they are not on the record for certain.. I wish he will have his say about this. I love his musical tastes and for me he could do no wrong so I hope that 19 will give him a lot of loose.

    sterling,
what do you mean by “in his apartment you would probably find a red guitar right now, but it isn’t Kris’ exactly”??

    ..geez i gotta work..

  37. Kris’s tendency to use ‘me and XX’ when speaking, kind of annoys me.

It’s funny, but it annoys me way more when people over-correct and use “XX and I” when it should really be “XX and me” (i.e. “He gave XX and I a ride” when it should be, “He gave XX and me a ride”)

Can you talk about some of your favorites that you’ve recorded so far?

Probably, but they’re not on the album for sure.

The kid is a natural-born salesman.

It reads oddly in print, but I think he meant his faves are not on the album for certain. Not that they are definitely not on the album (if that’s what you read it as’ ¦and I did at first glance!)

I understood it the same way Michelle did. That said, terrible phrasing, Kris. “Eats, Shoots, and Leaves”. Go read it :)

  38. A conjugal property red guitar? Anyway, the photo is great, very natural.

  39. sterling,

    OK, now i’m curious

how do you know what color his quitar was, any photo you would like to share? I’ ll be very interested!

and as many before me have already asked what about the red guitar that is now in his appatment, which appartment in LA or in Arkansas and since the “Red guitar” is pre-Idol written this new guitar can’t be the subject of this song, right?

  40. As far as Kris and Chris I believe they’re both managed by Stirling McIlwaine of 19 who reports directly to Simon Fuller.

Well, at least McIlwaine won’t have to learn a new name. When he pitches, all he has to say is “Ch(K)ris will be great for this!” and he’ll have all his bases covered.

  41. that is THE best Kris pic ever!!!!!

    I’ll second that emotion!

    more fun title options:

    Take That, Simon!

    Tender Dog

    Pocket Idol

  42. sterling,

    OK, now i’m curious

how do you know what color his quitar was, any photo you would like to share? I’ ll be very interested!

and as many before me have already asked what about the red guitar that is now in his appatment, which appartment in LA or in Arkansas and since the ‘Red guitar’ is pre-Idol written this new guitar can’t be the subject of this song, right?

Who said this was a new guitar?

I don’t have photos, but I have seen his guitar before he gave it away.

I’m also not sure which apartment, but since they were reported to be sub-leasing their Conway apartment I doubt it’s in there. I’ve never heard “Red Guitar” but I would bet he wrote it about the same subject most of BNS was about. Especially considering the Red Guitar I referred to earlier.

  43. Ah, I stand corrected about Pickler. Her management is doing a great job.

Let’s just hope that Kris’s management can get him some good exposure.

  44. sterling,

I think i got it and i really like the subject!!!Thank you very much for the informations or should i say the hints better?

  45. sterling,

I think i got it and i really like the subject!!!Thank you very much for the informations or should i say the hints better?

mmk8, I’m still guessing, but imo BNS is all about Katy, lol. Is that the right track?

Looks like Kris has a blurb in US Weekly where he mentions he will be playing guitar on his album:
    http://www.krisallenofficial.com/news/kris-us-weekly-0

  46. I’m excited that he’s probably not going the self-titled route (or else why would he be so coy about the title. Archie and Cook both admitted early on that they would be self-titled) Judging from this one photo, I’m having an inkling that his cover will be one of the better ones (why does Jive suck at covers? Do they control it or is it management?). Of course, I shouldn’t hold my breath.

  47. Sterling

Color me confused. BNS was mainly about Katy. But why would she have a red guitar? — she’s not a musician. Unless “red guitar” isn’t actually a guitar at all. I guess I’m being dense here…

  48. Hmm. Red guitar. If it isn’t conjugal, then is it a legacy from his dad?

  49. Maybe “Red Guitar” is about wanting to be where the red guitar — and Katy, and the comforts of home — are. If he pushed the home part, he might just score that Idol buh-bye song, which would mean some major coin. (Just kidding. But Cantiello has been telling him for some time to write a song about going home for that very reason.)

  50. Michelle,

i think we are on the right track , but since i am not the source i guess we have to wait until Nov.17th in order to find out, dammit

    girlygirl,

i would say Katy is a musician since she played violin, maybe she wasn’t a great violinist (according to Kris and Katy, i guess) but still… Anyway, we will see who is the “Red Guitar”, whose is it etc., at least i hope so. I really want this song to make the cut.

  51. It may be the expensive guitar he got from his parents and that he brought on a mission trip. I read that he then gave this guitar to someone who badly needed it for church ministry

  52. Maybe he named Red Guitar after the guitar of the Jammin’ Ninja from the Phoenix Wright video game!

Well, I doubt it, but I kinda was hoping Kris is somewhat of a video game nerd like me :P.

Didn’t Kelly Clarkson write Because of You when her parents got divorced or something? Was that on her first album? Maybe something like that will happen for Kris.

  53. another album title:hot pocket lol

    I’m expecting KRIS ALLEN,ADAM LAMBERT,and ALLISON IRAHETA.and then yknow there’s gokey….;)

bot that it matters but I enjo hwc’s snark lol

  54. How about “Waiting for the Toilet to Flush” — kind of a play on Mayer’s “Waiting for the World to Change” ???

  55. He has seemed fixated on pee in the past, lol :D

But wow, I’d think that’d be an awkward photography situation, to say the least!

  56. I’m glad to hear his grammar grates other folks too, as I thought it was me just being grumpy. Other than the “me” problem he has I think his interviews are sounding better and more positive. I really hope his album turns out to be good.

  57. I hope the albums aren’t self titled! How boring. So I hope there’s a chance that Kris’ won’t be, and Adam’s won’t be. I’m resigned to Allison’s being self titled already though.

  58. Such a lovely picture but i wouldn’t use it for an album cover,.. not a bathroom picture!

I would like a similar one in an other environment.

  59. Well I am going to shoot for “Reflections” as the title… I know too easy..lol

  60. If it’s for the album cover, it wouldn’t be here for us to view. It might be from the album photoshoot and I would think they would never use a picture that he’s looking downwards. They would at least show the whole face.
This was posted on his facebook page, so no, it’s not the album cover.

  61. I think it would be cool if “Red Guitar” was the title track. It’s a snappy title, and the song has deep personal meaning for Kris (from what I gather).

  62. agree with vanjess38. It can’t be his album cover.
Beside the bathroom thing, it’s too chill for a title like ‘Live like we’re dying”..

  63. Is it too late to say that I generally like Cantiello and didn’t at all think he was dissing either Kris or Adam? Do think he and Slezak are getting a bit much with their Kris Allen stuff. Their latest Tweets about it, like with the cat fight YouTube link? It’s almost getting like AI this year in that it’s becoming too much about them. YMMV, of course and that doesn’t mean I don’t still mostly really like Cantiello and Slezak.

  64. “Can you talk about some of your favorites that you’ve recorded so far?”
Probably, but they’re not on the album for sure. — EW interview

This is Kris speak for he’s not sure they will be on the album. NOT that his favorites won’t be on the album.

The most interesting thing I got from this interview is that Chris Daughtry and Kris Allen have the same manager. On Daughtry’s CD lists Simon Fuller and Sterling Mcillwaine — 19 Entertainment.

    Very nice!

LLWD is listed as such: 19Recordings Ltd., under exclusive license to RCA/Jive Label Group, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment.

  65. CAN’T WAIT FOR KRIS ALLEN’S ALBUM. SERIOUSLY.

hey guys, i have a very off-topic question. sorry, just had to ask.
how do you put an audio clip (in the format as above) to a particular website? i have blogspot & i wonder how i can put audio clips like this Kris Allen interview (which is by the way, soooo full of win! yay!) to my page.

this is cool because the link is protected and all & people can’t easily copy paste the audio clip just like that. i’d like to know how it’s done. i’d appreciate anyone who could help.

    thanks a lot!

    GO BENCHES! :)

  66. hmm…hopefully all the deliberation means they’re deciding not to go with a self-titled album, lol. but whatever, no biggie.

  67. Red Guitar???? My guess is it’s about his Dad’s guitar from when he was making a living as a musician, what he gave up when Kris came into the picture, and what it all means to him. If that’s the case, I’m even more excited.

I really hope we get to hear Kris originals in addition to the collaborations. I’m very impressed with Marco Puig’s videography. The only thing I’m iffy about is Kevin Rudolf. Not a fan. But Kris has surprised me in what he’s done on other choices (Heartless, She Works Hard For The Money, Falling Slowly) that I’m hoping to be happily surprised again.

Soooo much new info today. The earlier radio interview and now Slezak’s just make me feel good for Kris. Everything is coming together.

I can’t say I liked the Valentine in the morning interview. Those people seemed rather rude. But Kris handled it well.

  68. Chris Daughtry and Kris Allen have the same manager. On Daughtry’s CD lists Simon Fuller and Sterling Mcillwaine ‘” 19 Entertainment.

So does Kris know two people named Sterling? In this thread, I saw that Sterling posted “inside” information about Red Guitar and then Sterling Mcillwaine being mentioned as manager under Simon Fuller.

Maybe Kris should name his album Sterling if it is good luck?

  69. Oh yes, the photo is gorgeous! I love sepia tones and introspective moods in photos.

  70. I can’t say I liked the Valentine in the morning interview. Those people seemed rather rude. But Kris handled it well.

I liked Kris in the interview and I agree with you that they were pulling his leg allright.. but as you said he handled all very well. He impressed me,.. on the Simon bash non-invitation, he could have said that no idols except the ones from the UK show were invited but nope he wasn’t defensive at all. He just simply doesn’t bite into controversy

Oh yes, the photo is gorgeous! I love sepia tones and introspective moods in photos.

I like the picture as well, I like it’s use of light and it’s composition, however “sepia tones”? Not seeing that in this picture at all. Unless you’re making a general statement about liking sepia tones, in which case I wholeheartedly agree!

  72. Love love love this picture! I don’t think it’s the album cover, but I hope the cover comes from this same photographer/shoot. And I don’t care what the name of it is – doesn’t affect my purchase decision one bit. Do album names really affect the casual shopper perusing the racks? I don’t think so.

  73. Hey, Truthiness!

    You said:

I like the picture as well, I like it’s use of light and it’s composition, however ‘sepia tones’ ? Not seeing that in this picture at all. Unless you’re making a general statement about liking sepia tones, in which case I wholeheartedly agree!

Maybe it’s because I’m viewing it on my laptop and the angle I’m seeing. But yes, very strong sepia tones (not the overall photo) are there. How about a touch monochromatic? I’ve seen others describing it as ‘yellow’ and I’m not seeing that so much.

    Great pic.

  74. Red Guitar???? My guess is it’s about his Dad’s guitar from when he was making a living as a musician, what he gave up when Kris came into the picture, and what it all means to him. If that’s the case, I’m even more excited.

This is actually what I was thinking as well TwigLA! I would love to hear a song about that!

I thought both of the interviews were great! I’m glad some of you cleared up the “for sure” answer. Yeah, his grammar isn’t the greatest, but I’m okay with that. :) I almost think if I heard him use ‘xx and I…’ I’d start saying where did Kris go? But that’s just me, I, me. Hee. I correct my kids all the time btw.

  75. Maybe it’s because I’m viewing it on my laptop and the angle I’m seeing. But yes, very strong sepia tones (not the overall photo) are there. How about a touch monochromatic? I’ve seen others describing it as ‘yellow’ and I’m not seeing that so much.

    Great pic.

I agree about the yellow tones. It has some washed out colour thang happening. But sepia tones are very specifically brown and monochromatic and this picture isn’t brown. Though I agree about it being kind of monochromatic-ish because the colours are so washed out, there sharpness of them is gone. Hence that more “yellow tones,” thing, which again, I agree with. The cream of the shirt, the warm brown of Kris’s skin tones, his light brown hair, the tiles are again, more of the beige-ish hues. The only real colour is a sage green for the drapes, walls and picture frame, green of course being a colour that even has yellow in it. Even the small amounts of black are out of focus and not sharp/definining. Creating a dreamlike, soft-focus feel to the picture.

At least that was my off the cuff critique. But as with all art, MMV. Though it doesn’t vary about actual sepia tones because it’s pretty specific Wiki on sepia tones.

  76. Love this picture — it is absolutely the best shot of Kris I have ever seen.

    Sepia tone — no.

    Great photo – yes.

These are a sepia tone portrait photos:

    Contemporary sepia tone

    19th century sepia tone

The photo of Kris is a partial duo-tone — meaning that a section of the photo was manupulated to be in two colors — a yellow-gold color and black.

  77. Though it doesn’t vary about actual sepia tones because it’s pretty specific Wiki on sepia tones. —Truthiness

WOW!! You guys make me laugh and laugh. Thanks!! LOL

  78. I can’t wait for the 17th. Very exciting. I hope he doesn’t simply call his debut album Kris Allen. I was a little disappointed when David Cook’s was self titled, too. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but i consider both of them among the most creative artists on Idol so I was/am expecting something a bit more creative in the title.

  79. WOW!! You guys make me laugh and laugh. Thanks!! LOL

I’m confused at to what part of that was so LOL to you. Was it knowing what sepia tones were? Or the taking someone’s opinion seriously and wanting to discuss parts of it? Were those the funny parts? Did I get it? Or perhaps you can enlighten me so I can share in the joke. I love laughing! Laughing is fun! I don’t know if it’s the best medicine, but given the state of health care reform these days, it might be the only medicine available soon.

  80. How about ‘Waiting for the Toilet to Flush’ ‘” kind of a play on Mayer’s ‘Waiting for the World to Change’ ???

hahaha! you guys have ruined a perfectly good morning for me. but kris is looking darn cute even while at the……

  81. The bathroom comments are funny. But I really only noticed Kris in the pic. He looks very handsome.

  82. iluvai: The bathroom comments are funny. But I really only noticed Kris in the pic. He looks very handsome.

    Me, too.

And, if the album is call “Kris Allen” I will be seriously annoyed that there was any discussion about “The name of Kris’s upcoming album will be decided in the next couple of days.” Oh, I have a great idea — and it is supported by years of market research about consumer acceptance in the popular music market — the best title for the album is “Kris Allen”. Kaching — charge to Kris Allen for market research expense to use his own name for album title.

This will be Jive’s 3rd Idol album, so let me predict:

    1. Jordin’s album = “Jordin Sparks”
    2. Archie’s album = “David Archuleta” + IMO not the best Archie photo on cover.
    3. Kris’ album = “Kris Allen”

Bonus round: #4 Allison’s album = “Allison Iraheta”

  83. Didn’t mean to confuse. Just found it funny. We all don’t have the same sense of humor. Case in point. I’m sure many people are now much more informed about sepia.

    The picture is lovely.

As far as a bathroom picture, it’s been done before with other artists and I don’t have a problem with it. Usually a mirror isn’t positioned over the toilet.

  84. This will be Jive’s 3rd Idol album, so let me predict:

Piffle, why limit oneself to just Jive, look at the overall number of self-titled AI records and REALLY marvel at the creativity of the marketing geniuses at 19Evol.

    Didn’t mean to confuse.

    Oh that’s okay, because I wasn’t really confused :)

  85. With Kris’ talk of the songs being “guitar driven” and “piano driven”, and Mat Kearney saying the song they wrote together has a driving kind of beat, and Kris saying they’ll be surprises…I’m really hoping TPTB don’t forget to include a ballad or two, ala “Falling Slowly” or “To Make You Feel My Love” so we can just hear his voice in a beautiful arrangement (especially the lower register). Maybe “Red Guitar” would fit that requirement or the other one Kris wrote (“I Need to Know?). I like upbeat tempos, but an entire album of “driving” beats will give me a headache!

And add me to the list of folks loving that photo…

Oh, and I meant to say that I really liked how Slezak asked Kris about the Rickey blog “mess” and gave him a chance to address that. Kris always takes the high road, but methinks I detect a slight raising of his voice in that paragraph! Good interview.

  86. I hope they will release the video sooner than the album… would lilke to see it by the end of next week! The theme of the song opens up infinite possibilites for this shooting and i’m curious to see how it will be done. What would be a blast would be to see Kris skydiving… omg, that would be so terrific for the video (and for Kris)

  87. For the most part, yes, the album is very guitar-driven and very piano-driven, but you throw in a little sound or effect, and it [enhances everything].

very excited that its guitar driven and piano driven! hopefully there’ll be a mix of songs in the album…both ballads and the more upbeat stuff…

so how days more for nov 17th yet?

  88. They always seem to stuff Idol cd’s full of ballads, especially the guys. Hopefully for Kris it’s more Falling Slowly/To Make You Feel My Love than some cheesy bombastic Diane Warren song.

  89. from KrisAllen4Real

Just finished singing 2 songs for the record. They sound great! So much work to still be done in the next couple weeks.

  90. I believe it is a requirement for the idol winner to have a Diane Warren penned song on their album. (I don’t really know that, but evidence supports this, LOL).

  91. The photo of Kris is a partial duo-tone ‘” meaning that a section of the photo was manupulated to be in two colors ‘” a yellow-gold color and black.

The two colors of the “Potty Theme”

    Just saying

  92. Kris was interviewed by phone on Valentine radio show 93.9 in
Chicago area around 8:20 am. He was asked about his album title and not being invited to Simon Cowell’s party. He said he had some ideas for the album title, but wasn’t going to discuss them.

  93. My guess is that the picture was taken in the late afternoon during the “magic hour”. That’s when the light is most flattering.

  94. Kris’s album really should be called Pocket Idol. ;)

I did not mind the morning interview at all! I guess because I’ve heard too many interviews where they were so snarly. I thought it was pretty amusing, actually, and Kris was so good at all (but stop asking him about Simon’s birthday bash, ppl!). I, too, did not understand what Kris meant about his favorites *not* being on the album. I get it now, but it was confusing for me.

    Names of albums:

    Kris: KRIS ALLEN
    Allison: ALLISON IRAHETA
    Adam: ADAM
Danny: HEART(with him giving us the heart sign)

  95. A first album is like an introduction to a new artist, so I have no problem with first albums being self-titled.

  96. A first album is like an introduction to a new artist, so I have no problem with first albums being self-titled.

yeah, i don’t have a problem with this too. But it would be nice to still have a little title like ‘red guitar’ …maybe!! :)

  97. Danny: HEART(with him giving us the heart sign)

LOL! That’s good – I can SO see that album cover right now :-)

  98. Personally I think albums should have a title, especially if we are hoping for long time success for an artist. Besides, some album titles become as famous as the band or singer and if someone says the title you know who the artist is, what songs are played, its ranking, its success, etc. etc. Self-titled albums tend to get lost in the shuffle.

  99. Self-titled albums tend to get lost in the shuffle.

I personally never understood the concept of self-titled albums. It seemed completely redundant and a waste of a good extra marketing hook to tie the album to a concept or phrase. After all, we already have the artist’s name associated with it by default – what’s the point of having it there twice? What does that do for anything?

Yeah, dumbfounded about the whole self-titled thing.

  100. Kris Allen Fans Weigh In With More Bad Album Title Ideas

    Glass Chicken was my fave.

  101. Ditto on ‘Glass Chicken’ … a definite keeper.

One big problem Kris will have naming an album ‘Kris Allen’ is that there is another ‘Kris Allen’ out there. This has been a long frustration of mine in trying to google or even check Billboard charts. He needs to something to set himself apart.
