Exclusive: Watch Highlights from No...
Exclusive: Watch Highlights from Norm Lewis' AMERICAN SONGBOOK Concert!

Can I hear a hallelujah?

Richard Rushfield of the LA Times breaks the happy, happy news! Kris Allen will not have to spend the rest of the American Idols Live! tour slogging through that trainwreck of a song, “No Boundaries”

The tour’s producers have been listening to the sound of few hands clapping. Starting tonight in Sacramento, “No Boundaries” will be disappear from Allen’s set, according to sources with the production.

A new song will take its place in Allen’s set down the road later this week.

Anyone care to do the happy dance with me?

I don’t even care which song takes its place. Anything has to be better than “No Melody”. Good Riddance!

ETA: It’s true, fans are going to get less Kris for the next couple of days…   They should let him work up an extra acoustic number in the meantime, maybe.

  1. If I were going to tonight’s show, I would be p***ed. While I like all of the top 10, Kris is the reason I bought a ticket to the show near me.

So, for me, Kris singing the Magna Carta would be preferable to him only having 4 songs.

  2. Yeah I kinda like Kris and would be upset if I paid for tonights show and it was a song short! Hope they fix this soon, but YIPEEEEE for someone with the brains and guts to finally stand up against that sucky song!!!

  3. There is a God and he is good! Hallelujah is right!

Maybe Kris can sing the phone book? Just sayin…

  4. WooHoo…maybe he’ll replace with a song he’s already sung on the show tonight and replace with a new one in a couple of days. Maybe a MJ song since he already knew all the guitar parts for the songs, Man in the Mirror or Remember the Time. I doubt they’d have him only sing 4.

  5. Each year we say this is the worst coronation song ever, but the next year always tops it. Poor season 9 winner LOL. The winners songs Ive enjoyed were from Kelly, Fantasia, and Carrie.

  6. If I were going to tonight’s show, I would be p***ed. While I like all of the top 10, Kris is the reason I bought a ticket to the show near me.

So, for me, Kris singing the Magna Carta would be preferable to him only having 4 songs.

I’m going to tonight’s show, so I’m a little miffed because Kris is why I bought the ticket, too. Not that I’m not excited for anyone else, but he was my #1. I’m just a bit worried about how it’ll all play out tonight. Will he get BOO’d for having to ditch that song suddenly? He’s gotta play it off somehow.

I think he should do that song until his new song is ready, but that kinda leaves him with a worse workload, I wouldn’t want him to get stressed over it.

Either way, I really hope Kara takes the hint and feels owned for that crappy song :D. Way to give a deserved diss the songwriters!

But I’m sure Kris will do something good.

  7. The thing I’ll miss about No Boundaries is every time Kris would sing “you can go higher” I’d think “no you really can’t.” (No slam on Kris; the song is high for too darned long.)

Happy for Kris–his vocal chords can start mending now.

Oh–I’ll also miss that “boundry” is not a word. (what’s up with Kara and company?)

  8. Surprised TPTB moved so quickly to make this change.

Guess the reception to that song was
    really negative.

Lucky Kris not to be saddled w/ it any longer.

  9. omg! don’t take it away yet! I want to see! haha.. I’m like the one person who was anticipating it! =)
I’m going to see them this weekend so is hoping that he have a new song by then asking too much??? i’m just confused though- does that mean he’ll only do 4 songs tonight or will he already replace it? okay, easiest thing will be to sing Falling Slowly with just his guitar in the mean time- anyone with me?

  10. Is this the first time the winner didn’t perform the coronation song on tour? Even Jordin performed hers, although it was an even bigger flop, IIRC.

But yeah, I would have waited with the scrapping until they’re ready with a replacement. It’s not fair that Kris will have one less song, even if it’s just a few shows.

  11. On second thought, yeah, I would be ticked if I were going to the concert tonight and only got Kris for four songs. He should sing something else from the show – She Works Hard? That’s one the folks could clap along to until he prepares something else.

  12. There is a God and he is good! Hallelujah is right!

Maybe Kris can sing the phone book? Just sayin’ ¦

LOL. I hope he brings out something totally new, not from the show. Or if not that, one of the songs he did in Hollywood that we didn’t get to see, Everything or For Once In My Life. I’d REALLY like to see him do the second one.

  13. Wow, is this a first? This is the first year I’ve followed AI so closely, all because of ADAM. I’m happy for Kris, but kind of feel sorry for Kara. I hope they replace it quickly. Those who participate in fanwarring, won’t be happy that Adam gets one more song than Kris.

  14. Fortunately for me the new song will be in the set by the time the tour hits Memphis. But be prepared for the onslaught who will point out that this actually gives Kris FEWER songs than Adam temporarily. Any word on when they’ll pull the single outright? The only thing I worry about is the media spinning the story to appear that the failure was not in the song but in Kris.

I really wish that they would just pick the top-rated cover from the season and make THAT the winner’s single. Can you imagine hearing on the radio Kris’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” David’s “Billie Jean,” Carrie’s “Alone,” or Kelly’s “Natural Woman”?

  15. Ahaha, that’s awesome. He must really hate that song, in addition to everyone else ragging on it, to get it removed from the set list. I am really going to miss not seeing him sing live, but there’s always his solo tour! :D

Of course, now there may be another kick ass performance in the works, like his choice with “Bright Lights”…I reeaally like that one, from the YouTube videos.

  16. Kris must REALLY hate singing that crap song to cut it out BEFORE they’ve found a replacement one. Just saying.

  17. think he should do that song until his new song is ready

Kris is losing his voice. He can’t keep singing that thing.

Maybe he’ll be able to surprise you and do Man in the Mirror or She Works Hard or Come Together just on guitar?

  18. Most of the fans who buy tickets and don’t read any of the pre-stuff on the internet probably won’t even notice how many songs he does or does not sing.

Those that are aware will probably understand. The online fans have been screaming for this song to be removed from his set. And, now it is. I don’t think it’s too much to ask to give him a couple of days to prepare the replacement.

If the choice is either 2 tour dates with only 4 songs, or Kris having to sing No Melody 45 more times, that seems like a fair trade-off to me.

  19. if its NoBo no more, it shud definitely be a new song which he hasn’t sung before. and since there is this element of surprise, i’m psyched already

    :jittery_tb:

  20. Guess the reception to that song was
    really negative.

Yeah. It must have been. lol The sad thing is that song will still be on his dubet CD.

  21. The thing I’ll miss about No Boundaries is every time Kris would sing ‘you can go higher’ I’d think ‘no you really can’t.’ (No slam on Kris; the song is high for too darned long.)

Huge Kris fan here, but hey that’s tooo funny!!

YESSS i’m doing the happy dance mj

I got to say that I love the studio version of it and live is good too but it’s not his style and kind of stick out not nicely in his set

  22. I’m so flippin’ happy!!!!! Now I’m happy that I have to wait til Sept. Yeah for Kris!!!!

  23. I love She Works Hard for the Money. A MJ will be appropriate too. I know I’m dreaming, but think about duet We’re the champions w/ Adam :clap_tb:

As mentioned by some posters, maybe Kris won’t need to include NoBo in his first album. That would be a relief.

  24. It’s official: worst coronation song ever. Maybe next year, it’ll be so bad that they’ll axe it right before the top 2 elimination night.

  25. I think the replacement should be something similar to the rock out style of Bright Lights. I honestly can’t think of anything from the show though.

  26. If the choice is either 2 tour dates with only 4 songs, or Kris having to sing No Melody 45 more times, that seems like a fair trade-off to me.

Seems totally fair to me too and I would think that if my concert was tonight. That song just doesn’t work for Kris, IMO.

Hopefully, no “NoBo” on Conan either.

  27. does that mean he’ll only do 4 songs tonight or will he already replace it? okay, easiest thing will be to sing Falling Slowly with just his guitar in the mean time- anyone with me?

It would be very unfair to Kris and to his followers to be shorted a song during any of the concerts. I don’t see why he couldn’t sing a song that he’s done on the show in the meantime. I think that either Falling Slowly or To Make You Feel My Love would be good choices to fill the spot temporarily. :)

  28. Couple of extra twitters from Richard:

@terra_zephead I think kris will be very happy tonight
39 minutes ago from TweetDeck in reply to terra_zephead

Replacement song to be added, i’m told,in the coming days. No word yet what it will be. My guess, not a song he did on the show #idoltour09

  29. my guess is that he be ready tonight with the new song but if it’s not the case, Kris will replace it with some stripped acoustic performance (works hard for the money or Falling slowly?). I really don’t think he will sing only 4 songs… that wouldn’t be fair for the fans.
I can’t wait to see the new song

  30. Yeah…this will make Kris’ life so much easier and his sound so much better, haha.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he drops a “Falling Slowly” or something in the meanwhile. To short the winner a song is pretty lame. You can imagine if Adam was shorted a song, people would be burning things.

  31. Wow, I wasn’t expecting that at all. I love it, but why? Coronation song has always been a set killer, but never before had they cancelled the song this early on tour. What’s different this year?
Well, whatever. We get to hear a new song from Kris, so yeah!!!!

  32. how about Come Together? i feel he didn’t deserve enough credit for that song and he was really really under-rated that week. so maybe he can redeem it by rocking out Come Together during the tour!!!

oh wait, i forgot he’s already doing a Beatles song…..hmmmmm

  33. Does that song still have to waste space on Kris’ debut album?? I hope not. I also hope he doesnt sing it when he goes on Conan.

  34. i’m listening to Rehab by Rihanna right now, and thinking “now how would it sound if Kris was singing it????”

will be kick-awesome i bet :smile1_tb: wishful thinking that he sings Rehab during the tour.

  35. Hee hee, what if he sang Renegade and rocked it? That would be funny.

  36. The sad thing is that song will still be on his dubet CD.

I think the odds of that are slim now. “NoBo” has already been included on the compilation CD (I don’t recall that ever happening before) and Taylor did not include his coronation song on his debut, so there is a precedence.

“NoBo” is unlikely to be like anything else on his debut. I can see Jive being smart enough to just say “No” to “NoBo”.

  37. Maybe he’ll do something acoustic the next couple tour dates to fill in until he and the band and up to speed on whatever the new song is.

Of course, it’s possible that this news was a long time coming and Kris and the band already had a backup song ready in case the producers gave in and let him drop “NoBo”. (ohpleasepleaseplease)

Now I’ll have to listen to tonight’s underwater cell cast and see what happens!

  38. It’s been pulled from the tour now can’t the people protest enough to get it pulled from his debut cd????? I hope so, this is the worst song ever.

  39. If he does have a substitute for tonight, my guess is FS – it’s a simple arrangement and just needs the female backup vocalist, who was pretty good. He said in an interview he wanted to do FS on tour but “they” wouldn’t let him. Maybe “they” will now.

  40. It really is a terrible song. Kris doesn’t have the vocal range for it. I’m sure he really strains to reach those notes, and that’s not good. The tour just started. His voice can’t give out already. It really has to be the worst coronation song ever.

  41. If Kris’ voice is hurting, maybe a shorter set for a couple of days would help, especially considering the demands of that “song” which doesn’t suit his style anyway. Would love to hear a Kradam duet, tho!

  42. I’m kinda worried as to why kris removed it from his set.Was it ruining his voice? Anyway I think kris will sing NB until the new song is put. They cant have
him sing four songs that would mean his voice is straining and need a few days.I HOPE kris isnt pulling a Kat Mcphee and his voice is going :(

Also This might might mean less Kris.i think thats wrong. Some people are going to see kris and know will see less kris. Also i bet this also means
more adam for a few days. :(

  43. Hee hee, what if he sang Renegade and rocked it? That would be funny.

    definitely without danny this time…

  44. but I’m seeing him twice this weekend.. mainly for Kris so I think I’m hoping too much that he has something worked out in a day! i was excited but now I’m kinda sad y’all. ahh.. what has idol done to me to make me so crazy? haha

and i doubt no boundaries will be on the album. i think the only reason it made it onto Cook’s album is because it did super well but I think originally they were going to keep it out.

  45. TPTB used their brains, I’m shocked!

Not only it’s a good decision because people don’t care about the song, it’s also good to save Kris voice. I think the song was always out of his range. Maybe it’s just impression, but the few times I’ve seen him singing it (3 times I think) it looked liked his voice was going to break at some point.
I hope he finds one that suits him better. And maybe 4 songs for a few shows is good so he can rest that voice a bit.

  46. Oh, yay, good for Kris! That song is not only terrible but I think would’ve blown his poor vocal cords by the end of the tour.

  47. I know he most likely doesn’t have anything ready yet, but wouldn’t it be cool if he were able to sing his first real single from his debut cd on this tour?

  48. But be prepared for the onslaught who will point out that this actually gives Kris FEWER songs than Adam temporarily.

I didn’t know they were doing the same number of songs. Wow, TPTB aren’t very subtle. Sorry, I know this is old news for everyone else.

Kris is losing his voice. He can’t keep singing that thing.

Seriously? In that case, getting a few days with less songs is probably not a bad idea, even if it sucks for the fans.

  49. Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance!

TPTB used their brains, I’m shocked!

Well said! That song was clearly ripping up Kris’ voice. Anything he picks will be better than NoBo!!

    It’s official. Worst song ever!

  50. I had another idea…. maybe he could do ‘My everything’ of Micheal Bubble. According to Kara, it was an ‘idol’ moment for him in Hollywood and it got him in the top 36

  51. Kris’ voice was not made for this song and he can’t keep on singing it or his voice will be shot from trying to force something that just isn’t there. He does not have the range to pull it off and stay in top vocal form. Pulling the song from his setlist is the best thing for him.

  52. hallelujah sister. that ‘s good news for kris. his voice wasn’t going to handle that high song for 50 more dates. poor kara , I wonder what she thinks abt this. shame or anger?.

  53. Since one of the main knocks against No Boundaries was that it dragged down the pace of the show, I can’t imagine replacing it with the even slower, even more low key, Falling Slowly.

If the producers really listened to the complaints, I expect another uptempo song.

  54. Would love to hear a Kradam duet, tho!

OMG, I hope not. Kris’ fans would go nuts if Adam interrupts Kris’ set. Pitchforks will be flying.

I guess they thought this was a pretty bad situation since this seems like the first time they’ve unburdened the winner from singing the piece of crap known as the winner’s single.

  55. Hee hee, what if he sang Renegade and rocked it? That would be funny.

That’s a thought he did great on that song.

  56. “Hee hee, what if he sang Renegade and rocked it? That would be funny.

That’s a thought he did great on that song.”

Damn straight he rocked on that song – thinking about Simon’s reaction to that just pisses me off all over again.

  57. Yessss!!! One tiny defeat for Crap Hollywood Songwriters, one big relief for Pocket Idol.

Falling Slowly would be awesome now!!! But pretty much anything else will be fine.

  58. If NB isnt on tour anymore i doubt its on his album.

Kris could be a MJ melody kinda what adam and what he is doing with the david bowie melody. He could also do Falling Slowly,Everything or for once in my life.

  59. I’m an Adam fan first but I do like Kris as well and personally, I would love it if Kris did the Keith Urban song they did on the finale. Kris was amazing on that song!! I was so bummed when he said he wasn’t going the country route cuz it would have been awesome.

  60. Would love to hear a Kradam duet, tho!

OMG, I hope not. Kris’ fans would go nuts if Adam interrupts Kris’ set. Pitchforks will be flying.

as much as i love kradam, and as a kris fan, i’d say NO WAY!!! once again there’ll be comparisons and adam gets the gold medal for the vocal olympics. i’d rather kris sing NoBo than get overshadowed or criticised during a Kradam duet.

  61. uhh, as a Kris fan, I would not mind at all if Adam had to come out and duet with him as long as that mean for Kris on stage! no pitchforks from me! but I’m also a fan of Kradam haha..

I think the prob with No Boundaries was that he had to keep it as the cd version and could not change it up because it’s supposed to promote the “single”. In general I don’t think that the song was really hurting his voice that much- more that he didn’t like to do it and none of the reviews have liked that song either so it’s good to take it out.

  62. It would be very unfair to Kris and to his followers to be shorted a song during any of the concerts. I don’t see why he couldn’t sing a song that he’s done on the show in the meantime.

I would guess that this news probably came as a relief to Kris. I doubt he’s feeling that it’s unfair. Preparing a new song, and getting the band, back-up singers, lighting, blocking, etc. ready is not an instant transaction. It’s going to take a couple of days.

OMG, I hope not. Kris’ fans would go nuts if Adam interrupts Kris’ set. Pitchforks will be flying.

There’s no “interrupting” on a group concert. This was billed as American Idols Live. How they put it together, and who sings with who is totally up to them. No one was promised anything other than seeing the Top 10 sing live. Would it be better if the strain of this song put Kris on complete vocal rest for a number of dates so he didn’t sing at all?

That’s happened before – and there are no refunds. I’m sure Kris and the tour producers are making the best possible decisions they can.

I just think it’s better to let Kris take a couple of days to pick something he really wants to sing and spend some rehearsal time making sure it’s ready for the big arenas.

  63. I think both the poor reception of NoBo and Kris’ voice tiring by sing it contribute to the pull-off of the song.

Although it’s not fair for people who come to the following several shows if Kris doesn’t have a sub immediately, it’s a good idea in general. It expands the collection of Kris’ performance and keep people curious. Good PR for the show (not so much for Kara tho).

I wish Adam could have some new song maybe midway or 1/3 of the tour. hmm…but I don’t know song to trade.

  64. tammieinohio, I would LOVE “Kiss a Girl” too. But since it is a current radio hit for Keith Urban, I don’t think they would allow Kris to do it on tour.

It is really tough to get clearance for a song that is a current hit.

  65. Hopefully, no ‘NoBo’ on Conan either.

Kirsten, I didn’t even think of that, but that’s actually important. Any time he gets a spot on TV between now and the fall, he doesn’t have to waste it on that piece of drek. He can either do “Heartless,” which has always gone over well live–that time on Jimmy Fallon was great–or prep another piece . . . something that showcases him in his best light to casual viewers, which is in his AND Jive’s best interest.

  66. Would love to hear a Kradam duet, tho!

No this would not be cool. And their voices are not that complementary.

Hee hee, what if he sang Renegade and rocked it? That would be funny.

    :clap_tb:

  67. oh yeah, no live duet with Adam, it’s Kris set after all ….. but i can see them recording some well tought of song together though

  68. Over on ontd_ai, the excitement about this news is through the roof. And they are coming up with tons of great song suggestions for Kris. A wide range of stuff, too — some suggestions being a MJ medley, anacoustic cover of “Circus,” to Matt Nathanson, Ray Lamontagne and Damien Rice songs. Lots of hopes he’ll do Falling Slowly (I doubt that, since it would precede ANS — I’m thinking he’ll do something more upbeat) and some people even hope he’ll do somethign off his pre-Idol BNS album!

Kris has always come across as someone who really knows current music. I bet he comes up with something fantastic.

  69. Now can Kris finally come out and say that the song sucks? Or at least wink when he says how much he loves it? lol

  70. Everyone hates this song that much, huh? Wow…gah, wonder how Kara must feel.

  71. If Adam trades, he should trade Starlight.

The only real thing I’m miffed about tonight is how Kris will have less songs than Adam. I don’t mind Kris having fewer songs if it’s better for him, but I know a few
Glamberts who’d probably gloat about it and it’ll piss me off.

Would love to hear a Kradam duet, tho!

OMG, I hope not. Kris’ fans would go nuts if Adam interrupts Kris’ set. Pitchforks will be flying.

Oh goodness, somehow it would end up all Adam’s fault too.
The fact that the TPTB pulled this song proved that Adam was correct in saying they are being very open to letting the idols find their way and make decisions. I have a feeling that for the first time the 19E managed debut albums will be fitting to the idol releasing it. I can’t wait for 08/18 especially now that I don’t have to sit through NB.
Now I’m going to play the bad guy, what if it wasn’t NB that was causing people to fade out in Kris’ set? What if the new song chosen still don’t hold the audience captivated? That would suck.

  73. I bet all the previous Idols are steamed right now, LOL

    Somewhere David Cook is pissed.

I would love to hear Kris do “Man in the Mirror” and make it a tribute to MJ. They could even do a slide show in the background about MJ. The crowd would love it and it’s nice, that as the winner, he could do the tribute on his own. (And I’m an Adam fan).

Kara must be embarassed. I think they need to go back to the songwriting contest. I also think they should let the top three pick one of the entered songs as their coronation song and let them change it up as much as they want.

It seems to me that Kris and Adam are being treated very well by TPTB. In fact, the top 4 do. I wonder if this is a new crew in charge? We have all read the reviews that this show just seems alot cooler than AI concerts in the past.

  74. I would love it if Kris did the Keith Urban song they did on the finale. Kris was amazing on that song!!

I agree — the Kris-Keith duet was my absolute fav Kris performance. But I expect that Kris will stay far away from anything that is ‘country”.

    Here’s my suggestion:

    Jason Mraz – I’m Yours

Kris would knock this out of the park!!!

  75. It is really tough to get clearance for a song that is a current hit.

Getting clearance to sing a song live is easy. Allison is singing “So What”–a fairly new song.

I don’t think, however, Kris will choose a country song for his set.

  76. Kris is a huuuge Kings of Leon fan. Maybe he could sing ‘Sex on Fire’. That ought to spice things up.

    LOL

  77. I wish Adam could have some new song maybe midway or 1/3 of the tour. hmm’ ¦but I don’t know song to trade.

I want see a new outfit, maybe blue leather to bring out the JACKET more. A new song would be sublime, but I know that won’t happen so a new outfit would suffice me.

  78. I thought ‘So What’ had gone recurrent, but I have been wrong before, and will be in the future, I am sure.

  79. Somewhere Michael Slezak and Kristen Baldwin are giving each other a high five.

  80. Re a Kris & Adam duet: if they did go that way, the general audience would love it, because they’d have a ton of fun up there! The main audience doesn’t care about fanwars or even the vocal differences, they’d just see two hot “characters” from a show they liked enjoying themselves! Together, like peanut butter and chocolate.

Which is why corny duets between two pop singers with mismatched voices happen all they time. It’s “OMG, A B, I looovve them!!!”

But I don’t imagine they will because of already having the Adam/Allison duet.

The song replacement isn’t going to be very difficult, so it doesn’t seem like folks should assume they’ll be short a song. Dude has something like twenty songs that were done for the show he could pull from while they work out anything new.

  81. Wow!

Been under it all day and I fly by and see this. That’s great news for everyone except maybe concertgoers over the next few shows who get less Kris… and, well, Kara. :-) And, ok, maybe Kris’ income takes a little hit from NoBo sales dropping from non-promotion. Small price to pay, I guess, for both audience satisfaction and his voice. That song is a killer for his voice, imo.

    All in all, GREAT NEWS!

  82. Just a dream…but I’d like for Kris to grab the mike and say the words that most artists use during their concerts…

And now I’d like to sing a little song from my upcoming album…

    (sigh)

  83. Here’s my suggestion:

    Jason Mraz – I’m Yours

    That would be great!!!

  84. Hey Kirsten, why do you say ‘Hopefully, ‘ ¦. no Conan either’ ?

Here is what I said: Hopefully, no ‘NoBo’ on Conan either.

Kris is going to appear on Conan on Wednesday. I’m just hoping that he gets to sing something other than “No Boundaries” on the show because I don’t really see the song as a good representation of him (it’s not in his wheelhouse, it’s not even in the same town as his wheelhouse).

  85. Man, I’m glad that I don’t have to hear this song when I go to the show. Although people will complain about him having less song for the next few day I don’t know that Kris would just throw something in unless he is really comfortable with it. Everyone needs to let him take the time to do what needs to be done to get something ready that he will feel good about. I would rather see one less song than see him do something he does not feel ready to do.

BTW, all the whining about it not being fair brings out the mom in me. I’ll tell you what I tell my 9 year old, “life isn’t always fair, deal with it”.

Just a dream’ ¦but I’d like for Kris to grab the mike and say the words that most artists use during their concerts’ ¦

And now I’d like to sing a little song from my upcoming album’ ¦

    (sigh)

In my opinion, best suggestion yet! I wonder if he has anything ready?

I know it would be a stretch but I too can dream, can’t I?

  87. If Adam trades, he should trade Starlight.

Why should Adam trade any of his songs, especially Starlight? His set is perfect just as it is.

  88. Kris is a huuuge Kings of Leon fan. Maybe he could sing ‘Sex on Fire’. That ought to spice things up.

Actually, anything from that album would be great. All the songs are ssssexay.

  89. “Now I’m going to play the bad guy, what if it wasn’t NB that was causing people to fade out in Kris’ set? What if the new song chosen still don’t hold the audience captivated? That would suck.”

OOOOOH NOOOOO! That would be awful. We will see soon enough.

  90. Finally, Kris gets some love from the production! I think it would be awesome for him to do a song from the new album that can actually get some mainstream airplay- something that was never achieved with, “Nobo”. He deserves it.

  91. For all of you going yeah! Think on this:

    1. This is Kris Allen’s first single – when the footnote is written it may well say “Kris Allen’s First Single was a BOMB”!

    2. If every singer threw out every song the fans didn’t like it gets expensive TTPB.

    3. It says the fans will only support Kris Allen’s music if they like it – not a good thing in the financial business world!

    4. It does a disservice to the fans who DO LIKE the song and wanted and were entitled to hear it on the tour! Creates PO’d people as well!

    5. How do you think Kris Allen feels? Having a song pulled from his set and having to work to put something else in – ALOT of work when they’re already pressed to the max. I’m watching videos from just 3 shows and I’m exhausted!

  92. There are currently seven very pissed off American Idol winners. Well, except maybe Jordin, who seemed to like her butterflies and rainbows song alright.

Anyways, thank goodness. TPTB saw reason, I’m shocked. I hope Kris puts Falling Slowly in, but honestly, ANYTHING would be good compared to NB.

  93. I can’t remember most of kris’s songs on the show but if there was any that got him away from the piano and guitar , that wld be a welcome change. move around on the stage a bit and maybe dance? if he can do that. in his set he is mostly in one place.

  94. Why should Adam trade any of his songs, especially Starlight? His set is perfect just as it is.

I disagree, the non-idol songs suck to me. Personally I’d trade both of them for any other song(s), then again I’m not a fan of his.

  95. ‘Now I’m going to play the bad guy, what if it wasn’t NB that was causing people to fade out in Kris’ set?”

From most of the reviews, it seems like that’s the only song people ‘fade out’ in, but get back into in after the song is over so that’s why people are saying it is just the song.

anyways, his new song is most likely going to be something on his guitar I’m thinking..

  96. 5. How do you think Kris Allen feels? Having a song pulled from his set and having to work to put something else in – ALOT of work when they’re already pressed to the max. I’m watching videos from just 3 shows and I’m exhausted!

I doubt they would have pulled it without Kris’ agreement. He is probably happy it is gone.

  97. I can’t understand fans pushing for ‘Falling Slowly’. Good grief. I love that song, but the Adam fans would be late for the exits, if that one were put in.

Their big complaint was that they had to stop dancing and sit back down.
Falling Slowly is not the song to change that aspect.

  98. There seems to be a definite changing of the guard with AI and TPTB seem to be listening to the fans and the audiences. Best thing that ever happened to AI was the bye-bye to Clive Davis and his very old-fashioned ways..maybe the Idols can move forward not backwards.

I think singers like Kris and Adam and Allison that know themselves are starting to have a little more control over their own careers…especially with the music industry in the throes of a depression.

I could give a damn if Kris sings 4 songs to Adams 4 and a duet the next few nights….nobody now has to listen to the worst coronation song in the history of time, and Kris no longer has to take a “beating” for being the “winner”.

I would hope that he gets rid of the guitar and the piano and tries something a bit more uptempo and uses the stage. He had some good moves in some of the show group numbers and we know he has stage presence….so lets force him to use it.

The band and the support personel have been doing this together for awhile so I bet by the time the show heads down the coast an overhauled set will be in place. It’s a good thing the only traveling for the next 3 days is from the hotel to the venue…..more time to rehearse and get things set up.

    Great call…AI. And kudos, everyone.

  99. The main audience doesn’t care about fanwars or even the vocal differences, they’d just see two hot ‘characters’ from a show they liked enjoying themselves!

This is interesting to me. I’ve watched the show all 8 seasons and have never been tempted to go see the tour. I always thought only really invested fans would pay the money to sit through such a show.

  100. 3. It says the fans will only support Kris Allen’s music if they like it – not a good thing in the financial business world!

    ^^
Um, isn’t that the case for all musicians and artists? You generally have to like the music to buy it,no? Unless you’re just about the personality or the character.

Hopefully, Kris will produce and drop an album that his fans will want to buy this fall. Because it’s all about the music. If it sucks, then people won’t buy it outside of his hardcore fanbase. He’ll need more than that to succeed post-Idol.

  101. It’s not his fault that he was contractually bound to sing a god awful song

  102. I think not having a Kradam moment in this concert is a miss, it does not belong in Kris’ set.

Kings of Leon would be so cool!!

Kings of Leon would be cool.

The song replacement isn’t going to be very difficult, so it doesn’t seem like folks should assume they’ll be short a song. Dude has something like twenty songs that were done for the show he could pull from while they work out anything new.

Danny’s already doing PYT. So I don’t think they’ll put in Man in the Mirror.

The only really good, upbeat performance that Kris has left is “She Works Hard for the Money”. Not my fav.

    Still hoping for something new!!

  103. Hallelujah!!!!

I wonder what he’s gonna sing. If he does one on the show, I’m hoping for Falling Slowly or Come Together.

But Kris is awesome at picking songs. I’m sure it’ll be great.

  104. 4. It does a disservice to the fans who DO LIKE the song and wanted and were entitled to hear it on the tour! Creates PO’d people as well!

That would be me, but I really only like Adam’s version.

The more I think on this the more I’m leaning toward them taking it away because it may be straining Kris’ vocals. To take it away because people don’t like it at this point in time just seems too nice for normally not so flexible people – especially when most of the venue tickets have been sold. It’s not like people can get a refund because one song is bad.

  105. “Oh goodness, somehow it would end up all Adam’s fault too.” LOL Squirrely – my thoughts exactly!

I’m a total glambert but c’mon…Kris is all kinds of WIN. He must be giddy to be free of that atrocity. And i’m fairly certain he had an option of singing NoBo until a replacement could be found or singing a shorter set for a few tour stops. His decision speaks volumes about how much that song sucks. Poor Kara. I can’t wait to dole out the Kradam love (twice!!) when they get to my neck of the woods later this month and in August!

  106. You can imagine if Adam was shorted a song, people would be burning things

    LOL.

I can imagine the fans: :furious_tb:

  107. I hear Kris has been changing the lyrics lately anyway:

    Seconds, hours, so many nights
It’s ruining my set, so now long can I fight?!?!
    Every bad note lasts forever
    When a song f*cktastically bites.

It’s presence, on radio, is already nil.
Each evening I feel like it’s making me ill!
Please just give me one good reason
    Why I shouldn’t Kara kill.

With every note, I’m feeling people shudder.
Every time, it’s harder to believe
That you got paid to write, something so lame and trite!
    This travesty still stings!

Just when I think the road is going nowhere
Just when I almost gave up on my dreams
They canned that shitty song, and righted Kara’s wrong
    No more No Boundaries!
    No more No Boundaries!

  108. Can’t see Kris doing 2 Beattle songs in one 5-song set. Plus, “Come Together” was not really one of his better performance IMO.

  109. I love Come Together, too. I think Simon was going to diss anything Kris did that week, because he wanted his Danny/Adam finale.

That would make two Beatles songs though, which might be overkill.

  110. Wow, Kris is sure getting the diva treatment compared to the previous idol winners, with not having to sing the coronation song. He didn’t sound that bad singing it. It might not be the song he sings best, but I would think the song would be meaningful to him since it was meant to celebrate his idol win.

  111. Squirrely Jul 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pm

    4. It does a disservice to the fans who DO LIKE the song and wanted and were entitled to hear it on the tour! Creates PO’d people as well!

That would be me, but I really only like Adam’s version.

You must have some serious love for that song if you are PO’d that Kris is not playing the song when you only like Adam’s craptastic (is there any other kind?) version.

  112. Is this for real? No more freakin’ hurricanes? :shock_tb:

Ah, all is right in the world.

  113. I may be in the minority, but I don’t think “No Boundaries” is the worst coronation song ever. I think Jordin’s and Taylor’s were worse. I think Kris’s recorded version of the song was good, kinda catchy even. His voice sounded fine on it, unless it was autotuned, I’m not sure. Maybe it was the delivery or the arrangement in concert? From items posted ( I haven’t seen videos, I’m saving myself for my concert), was the arrangement all that different than the recorded version?? Could the arrangement have been changed to make it a bit more uptempo or more suitable to Kris’s voice??

Oh well, doesn’t matter. I just think it creates a moment when the winner sings the winner’s single. Brings back memories of the big moment, the confetti falling, the awesome hug he had with his wife. A touching moment, ya know?

  114. I think the main thing is that Kris himself did not like the song and that’s why it’s being removed. (For ex., people have said that Matt’s You Found Me needs to be changed but Matt himself loves the song so that wouldn’t happen.. this is just an example and I do like you found me so this is not a diss or anything)

okay, so the song I would want is Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody!

  115. Happy for Kris Allen!

and I don’t think David Cook was that disappointed with “Magic Rainbow” – it was his first platinum record after all.

  116. Kris is a big boy with a bright future….I think he made good choices with the rest of his set and he is already singing two “idol” related songs. I’m super glad HE GETS TO CHOOSE what he wants to sing!!

  117. I always thought only really invested fans would pay the money to sit through such a show.

Well, but there’s different types of invested fans. It seems like a lot of the reviews, the people are pretty much fans of the show, or at least the season, and liked at least half the contestants–cause it’s a lot to spend money on and sit through if you hate everyone but one favorite. Even of those with a huge fave, the number who would see a duet between the runner-up and winner and resent it for fanwar reasons I think is small.

  118. Tweeters out there, let’s start a campaign to replace NB with “Falling Slowly.” Here’s what I put on mine (because I saw it on KrisAllenation first)

RT @KAnationUpdates No More No Boundaries: http://bit.ly/n2X5q. Let’s start a tweet campaign for #FallingSlowly!

  119. They should make Adam drop one of his songs temporarily but I know his fans would foam at their mouths.

Since they both released it make Adam sing “No Boundaries” instead of “Whole Lotta Love” or something. LOL.

  120. Use Somebody would be great, but I am still hoping for Sex on Fire. LOL.

  121. i’m not hot at seeing him sing a 3rd song from the show. Heartless and ANS are more than enough.
He’s been singing in bars in Little Rock so I guess he has some choices availaible, i’m not worry for him. I would prefer something up tempo though

LOL – No I’m not really PO’d – but I do like the song and would not have minded to hear Kris sing it. I really don’t think it’s the worst song in history.

  123. Everyone hates this song that much, huh? Wow’ ¦gah, wonder how Kara must feel.

Eh, she can take it. It’s a tough business and this stuff goes with the territory. Sometimes you write a hit; sometimes you write a clunker. If you want the glory that comes with the hits, you’ve got to take the shit that comes with the clunker.

If every singer threw out every song the fans didn’t like it gets expensive TTPB.

Singers don’t have to throw them out. The fans do that for them. That’s the nature of the free market. Why keep trying to make something happen, that’s just not going to happen. Is that not the very definition of insanity?

I think it says a lot about Kris and the tour producers that they’re able to recognize that this song is clearly not working for him. And, they’re looking to improve his set. I think he deserves that respect and I’m glad he’s getting it.

You can imagine if Adam was shorted a song, people would be burning things

I think that would be ridiculous too. Part of buying a concert ticket is your implicit agreement that you want to see what the artist wants to show you. It’s not like we get to approve the set lists for other artists we see. They sing what they want to.

All of this tit for tat bullshit and counting the number of seconds in everyone’s set? That’s just so self-involved, to me. I prefer to respect the artists and trust that they know how to put on the best show for me. If they’re fine with it, I’m fine with. And nothing about the entertainment business has ever been remotely fair. So, if Kris and Adam are sitting around waiting for “fairness”, they are definitely in the wrong line of work.

(which of course I do not think they are. I don’t believe they consider this who has more stage time crap for a second. I think they’re both just incredibly happy to be there).

  124. I hear Kris has been changing the lyrics lately anyway:…………

    Maturin ….. LOL

  125. I’m just going to say something from my own selfish point of view- the only reason I’m saying for him to do Falling Slowly for now is because I am going to be seeing him Sat and Sun and that would probably be the easiest thing for him to do instead of dropping a song in its entirety. I’m just having flashbacks of his hometown visit where he did that song with just him and his guitar. Yes, it’s slow but it really is a beautiful song.

That, or maybe my original dream of a Kris/Matt duet is not totally gone? haha..

  126. No, no, no. Not Falling Slowly. You don’t remove one tempo killer and replace it with a slower, softer tempo killer.

Think about it please. Falling Slowly is best saved for Kris’ solo tour, IMO.

  127. Taking an illogical idea to its totally illogical conclusion….

Since Kris is minus a song for a couple of nights…lets make all of the idols drop a song until Kris picks up a new one. I think that is a great idea and ultimately fair for everyone. :annoyed_tb: :doh_tb: :tongue2_tb:

  128. There seems to be a definite changing of the guard with AI and TPTB seem to be listening to the fans and the audiences.

Not during the actual show they weren’t. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been those horrible, slapdash semis, a fourth judge, less songs sung, lip-synching, more judge talk, horsing around, and focus, more “novelty” contestants, less opportunities to get to know the Idols…. The list goes on.

  129. *doing the happy dance*

this is definitely a mercy on kris, even if he is one song short for awhile.

  130. Think about it please. Falling Slowly is best saved for Kris’ solo tour, IMO.

    I agree

  131. For season 9 I volunteer MJ and her peeps for focus group testing of the next coronation song. If they had done that for Season 8, NoBo would have been killed in a nanosecond.

I would vote for “Man In the Mirror” for the replacement song. It was the song that was charting the highest number of downloads following Michael’s death. Also, it’s an uptempo number with a great message.

  132. “Man in the Mirror” would be awesome if they could get it cleared. Anything…

  133. Can’t see Kris doing 2 Beattle songs in one 5-song set. Plus, ‘Come Together’ was not really one of his better performance IMO.

You didn’t see his acoustic version did you?

  134. They should make Adam drop one of his songs temporarily but I know his fans would foam at their mouths.

    Huh?

Why would just Adam need to drop a song? Then Danny would have the same number as Adam, so Danny would need to srop a song….

Why wouldn’t all the idols drop one song? :lol_tb:

Oh, wait, you were joking. Right ?

  135. I think “Falling Slowly” would be a disaster for Kris to sing. I hate that song so I’m biased, but even if I didn’t hate it, I would still think it’s way to slow and boring to sing in his set. Kris is not a dynamic performer and it could be that it’s not just the coronation song itself that’s causing him to lose the audience. If he throws in another song that doesn’t hold the audience’s attention, this will look very bad for him.

  136. ‘Man in the Mirror’ would be awesome if they could get it cleared. Anything’ ¦

I suspect that the initial clearance for an on-air performance includes the subsequent tour. They have no way of knowing which will be the most popular, and I’m sure they want to ensure that they can use whatever songs the audience responds to. So, if this is the one Kris wants to do, I’d bet that issue is already taken care of.

  137. I understand what y’all are saying about an up tempo song, but the reason NB stinks is not it’s tempo…it’s just BAD. LOL I wouldn’t object to Man in the Mirror, but who knows if that would get approved.

    Just loved FS. Pure genius.

  138. there are basically no clearance issues to perform a song on tour.. it’s only when it’s televised.

and I don’t see a problem if he uses Falling Slowly as a filler for now right? yes, that is me being selfish because at this point, I wouldn’t even mind if he does a duet with Sarver! (remember- this is me desperate because I am seeing him this weekend!) haha

  139. I am pretty happy about this news. I’ll admit, I actually liked Kris’s studio version of “No Boundries,” but I really LOVE his “Falling Slowly” and pray that that is the replacement song. I don’t care if anyone says that “Falling Slowly” is not a good song to sing in concert and that people will be bored with it; I want to hear him perform this live so badly! I don’t care…when he sings it, I’ll stand up!

  140. ….but wouldn’t it be cool if he were able to sing his first real single from his debut cd on this tour?

Maybe they’re going to bump up his single.

To have both Adam and Kris on GMA with no product on iTunes for people to download seems like missed sales. (Not that singing No Boundaries would produce any.)

Axeing No Boundaries from Conan could easily be a long-range career move. As in a lot of people watching Conan might not have seen much of American Idol. And hearing Kris strain his way through that dross is not a good introduction to any aspect of his considerable talents, or the kind of artist he’ll be. Plus it could wipe out millions from ever wanting to hear another thing he sings. Better to cover anything and hope to get a few more ticket sales.

Still, it makes it appear that 19 is thinking long term. And strategically. An intriguing move in itself.

  141. Not that I don’t love “Falling Slowly”…but it is and was written and initially performed as a duet and Kris would have to share the stage with the back-up singer for the entire performance. I would like to hear Kris sing something that is about Kris and highlights Kris…not the song!

  142. Fifth House Sun:

To have both Adam and Kris on GMA with no product on iTunes for people to download seems like missed sales. (Not that singing No Boundaries would produce any.

As a Kris fan, my worst fear was that Adam and David Cook would both be debuting new singles on GMA and that Kris would have to sing No Boundaries.

Ok, the death of No Bo is sounding better all of the time.

  143. Yessss….happy dance!

I hope Kris sings Man in the Mirror or Apologize. Tribute to Michael would work really well at this time and may gain him more fans.

  144. and I don’t think David Cook was that disappointed with ‘Magic Rainbow’ – it was his first platinum record after all.

You’ll notice though, that he removed the song from his set as soon as he possibly could. I’d bet my hat that Cook never sings Magic Rainbows live again, unless their is an extenuating circumstance.

  145. I’m happy for Kris but, as someone going tomorrow night to see him in Oakland, I little bummed that I get one less song from Kris.

Can’t he just bust out the guitar and throw in a little acoustic something? Falling Slowly would be lovely.

  146. I’m happy for Kris that he’ll no longer have to sing No Boundaries on the tour! It’s a very diificult song to sing live ! However,no rotten tomatoes please lol I think both Adam’s and Kris’s studio versions are great ! I actually like the song and the more I listen to it the more I like it !

  147. NoBo is and always has been a complete disaster – it doesn’t matter who sings it. Removing it from Kris’ set is a win-win-win for him, his fans and all others in the audience. I’m thrilled that I won’t hear it when I see the show in mid-August. But, I do find it hard to believe that he won’t sing something in its place tonight. After all, Kris is a talented vocalist and musician. He doesn’t need the band to learn a new song and arrangement a.s.a.p. He’d do just fine playing guitar or piano. Maybe I’m overly optimistic, but I’m hoping a creative solution will be in place by this evening’s show.

  148. I’m pleasantly surprised by this turn of events. Yay for AI producers!

But, let’s be honest, their golden boy was getting beat up in the press night after night because of this song (not Kris, the song). The producers couldn’t continue to allow their concert closer to take that kind of beating in the press. Not good for anyone involved.

I’m sure Kris is thrilled. It must have been hard to be criticized for something he had no control over.

  149. Well, shoot. I don’t know whether to be happy or mad. I am going to tonight’s show and hate to be ‘shorted’ any Kris time, even though it means I won’t have to sit through NoBo.

I can’t understand why they would pull one song without having another one ready to go. Kris has performed dozens (at least) of songs in his career before Idol and the band surely must know at least one of them. It’s not like Kris needs fancy costumes, set changes and a light show. His fans are happy to watch him sing and play the guitar. ::sigh:: Ah well.

Maybe I need to go visit a friend on the east coast next month just to check out the new song. :lol_wp: My kids can live on mac and cheese for a couple of months, I’m sure.

  150. TMOL is Cook’s biggest single. It also has a nice melody.

Anyway good for Kris! It must be his voice, but also shows producers are more openminded this year, at least with Kris’ set.

Best senario: Kris test several sub songs in the following nights and decide on one of them. Kris fans will have several new tour songs to witness.

  151. Maybe they should give Adam another song..that is what most people want anyway..

Two problems solved…no more “no boundaries”…and Adam gets a another song!

  152. Thanks GaGaGlambert! I prefer overly optimistic! =) hehe

and I think I’ve finally calmed down. haha

  153. But, let’s be honest, their golden boy was getting beat up in the press night after night because of this song (not Kris, the song). The producers couldn’t continue to allow their concert closer to take that kind of beating in the press. Not good for anyone involved.

I suspect this is EXACTLY why the song was pulled, in addition to the crowds not responding to the song very well.

  154. The more I think on this the more I’m leaning toward them taking it away because it may be straining Kris’ vocals.

I’m with you Squirrely. Taking the song out after only 3 performances leads me to think it has more to do with it affecting his voice than it not being well recieved. I guess they figure it’s better to take the heat for him having 1 less song for a couple of shows than to take the heat for him have to miss some shows. I have a feeling someone in Kris’ camp told them that if he kept singing this song his voice may not hold out. I would rather hear 1 less song than have him take the chance of damaging his voice.

  155. “Best senario: Kris test several sub songs in the following nights and decide on one of them. Kris fans will have several new tour songs to witness.”

    THIS!

  156. This is such great news!!! I thought he did a great job with it, but it didn’t fit his set.

I remember when Kris and Anoop did an interview together pre-tour, that Anoop mentioned that everyone was pretty happy with their sets, for the most part. Or something like that and I thought to myself, I bet Kris isn’t happy about having to sing NB. Just something in Anoop’s body language or eye movement made he think he was somehow referring to Kris. I must be crazy noticing something like this! LOL!

  157. “But, let’s be honest, their golden boy was getting beat up in the press night after night because of this song (not Kris, the song). The producers couldn’t continue to allow their concert closer to take that kind of beating in the press. Not good for anyone involved.”

This! I am really hoping the new song gets better reviews for him. He is a sweetheart.

  158. I have a question. Everyone is talking about how Adam is singing the same number of songs as Kris and so on…how was it last year? Did the Davids sing the same number of songs? Just curious…

@Kanadie Bonttell: I hope you’re kidding!?! That would never happen!!!

  159. To have both Adam and Kris on GMA with no product on iTunes for people to download seems like missed sales. (Not that singing No Boundaries would produce any.)

    LMAO.

    Yep.

Still, it makes it appear that 19 is thinking long term. And strategically. An intriguing move in itself.

Yes, it’s kind of shocking, really. Normally, 19 seems to lurch along like some sort of Fraknestein, oblivious to the rocks thrown at him, the pitchforks being waved and the three guys hanging off his back. The coronation song sucks? Sing it anyway. Nobody is buying the coronation song? Sing it anyway. The coronation song causes half the people in the audience to spontaneously develop hives? Sing it anyway. Could 19 finally have stopped treating AI like the Golden Goose and instead of plotting how they can kill it, decided to feed it and see if they get more eggs that way? Okay, that’s just crazy talk.

  160. Oh, this is good news. I’m happy for Kris (he gets to do a good song/one he likes) and for myself (never have to hear NB again).

  161. Wow, an American Idol who can’t even sing his own first single on the Idol tour. Hard to know what to say about that.

  162. Woo hoo for Kris. No more NB. I would guess Kris will be a song short for at least a couple of shows. Sure he could pull out one of his Idol performances, but he hasn’t performed them in a couple of months. I would guess he might need to rehearse a few days before going that route. I would guess once Kris comes back up to a full set he will go with one of his Idol performances. Or maybe he could have a duet with someone? I always thought it odd that Adam has his duet with Allyson, but Kris does not. (not like anyone really wants to hear that Kris/Danny duet again).

I wonder if they will cut one of Adam’s songs, since he now has the same amount of songs as Kris. I would guess that would be a big no, followed by a hell no by many fans. The videos from the concerts are too available now and fans aren’t likely to accept any of his songs being pulled at this point.

  163. Best scenario: Kris test several sub songs in the following nights and decide on one of them. Kris fans will have several new tour songs to witness.

This has some strategy to it.

They could have an totally acoustic song, just the man and his guitar, every night known as “Kris’s Kall”. It’s what he wants to sing. From a pool of three or four tunes he knows cold. And he decides what he’d like to sing. “What feels right for that crowd.” Personalizing. He could even let them “vote” by applause. (Though a little difficult).

It would add an element of theatre and pizazz (not that he needs any just because he’s following Mr. Pizazz.) It does not matter, sales wise, that some hardcore fans will be disappointed they missed a track they like. They’re buying his album anyway. It capitalizes on the prevelance of Tour Videos and gets him more exposure. Without cutting into any sales because people already got that track for free on those videos, because they’re all covers. It keeps the considerable twitter and online fanbase engaged.(“What’d he sing tonight?) And the singer not bored by town 35. It could have its plusses.

  164. Most of the reviewers praised Kris for being able to bring the crowd back to their feet after a buzz kill like No Boundaries. It was definitely the song getting slammed, and not Kris.

  165. Kris’s voice can’t give out yet, that is for sure. Besides the concert tour I would guess Kris is recording as well. I know past Idols did double duty during their tours. If Kris’s voice is already straining, then they may need to rest his voice for a few days by lessening his load.

  166. Wow, an American Idol who can’t even sing his own first single on the Idol tour. Hard to know what to say about that.

Maybe it’s time to get over the fear of Kris’ name and accept him as your personal American Idol?

  167. EXCELLENT news. I am sure Kris is thrilled. He hasn’t really hidden his (rightful) disdain for the song. I remember the press conference after the final performance night where he was asked about the song (and how crappy it was). His face was priceless. Kris is not a very good actor and I love him for that. Like his face after Regenage and especially after Simon’s stupid comment that Danny “won.” Loved it.

So yeah, my vote to replace it is for Falling Slowly as well. I know it’s originally a duet, but he did it on the show and KILLED it. Definitely one of his Moments of the series.

And having Kris do four songs just for a few shows is I think a small price to pay for his having better songs and a better set. It’s better for Kris and for the show. :)

  168. Let’s face it. Kara did not write that song thinking that Kris would ever sing it. The song was written with Adam’s voice and range in mind.

  169. Wow, an American Idol who can’t even sing his own first single on the Idol tour. Hard to know what to say about that.

not that he can’t sing it but it sticks out not nicely in his set because it’s just not fitting the set. Otherwise i like the song

  170. Would love to hear a Kradam duet, tho!

Good lord, how much of this tour does poor Adam have to carry on his back? Where does it end? Duets with Scott, Meghan, and Sarver, too?

I know… get Adam to sing No Boundaries until the American Idol can work up a full set.

The American Idol needs to man-up and perform a closing set that keeps the crowd on its feet.

  171. Still, it makes it appear that 19 is thinking long term. And strategically. An intriguing move in itself.

We really don’t know why they dropped NoBo. It could be strategic or it could be simply that singing NoBo was straining Kris’ voice too much. Many people observed that he has to strain to sing this thing and that his voice was starting to sound raspy.

I have only heard Kris sing 2 songs live, right after his win. In late May there was nothing “raspy” about his voice. I have read some guesses that he has a cold. But maybe it’s just the strain of singing NoBo.

  172. Maybe Kris just asked it to be dropped since it appears the song was a buzz killer

  173. Wow, an American Idol who can’t even sing his own first single on the Idol tour. Hard to know what to say about that.

No….the comment is easy. Hallelujah! When a song isn’t written for you and you have to cover something that is horrible to begin with it says much more about the “poor choice” from a producer’s standpoint, and the inability of a song-writer to write something that is pretty universally singable.

The other interesting thing is that the guy who took second also couldn’t do much with the song even though key wise it was better for him.

And the third place guy (for whom the song was probably intended for, to begin with) didn’t get the dubious opportunity of even having to try and sing that unmelodious over wordy unrythmic drek.

  174. Let’s face it. Kara did not write that song thinking that Kris would ever sing it. The song was written with Adam’s voice and range in mind.

Or Danny’s ability to turn cheese into mega-cheese with hair on top.

  175. Yes, MJ, I’ll be thrilled to do a happy dance with you LOL. I never have to hear this POS song performed live, thank GOD!! Fantastic news, I really don’t care what replaces it, as long as it’s gone. Heh.

  176. Maybe next year they’ll find a song that in the vocal range of most of the peeps, even Adam struggled with that thing…….

Note to Idol – hire good song writers not affiliated with American Idol at all – I am sure Raine Maida and Chantal Krevasiuk would be happy to oblige now that Canadian Idol is on temporary [we hope] hiatus or worry about having stellar lyrics rather than vocal gymnastics that even the Idol the song was actually written for, aka Adam Lambert, had trouble singing.

That’s my dream, peeps, to see in the lifetime of this show, a coronation song that knocks all our socks off. I don’t understand why AI can’t do the math. If people will buy 1 million copies of a meh coronation song how many copies of a stellar coronation song will they sell and it won’t cost you any more money to hire decent songwriters with a proven track record vis a vis coronation songs, Raine and Chantal might take Canadian dollars eh?

In fact a really great coronation song could easily become an international hit and pave the way for the winner early. I think Kelly’s coronation song wasn’t that bad in retrospect and as she was the first Idol and competed on World Idol she got the international exposure early as well.

  177. Ricket has asked people to twit song suggestion to Kris and since the news is in L.A times, I guess he has received some twits about it!

  178. There is a God! Kris must have done a thousand Hail Mary’s when he got the news!

Good bye and good riddance to No Boundaries.

Maybe Kris could perform one of his original songs in it’s place…….

  179. Great ideas on having the audience choose or having Kris rotate – I wish more acts could or would vary the set list, that is what I love about Crowded House – they change it up every night — clearly they know their stuff very very well, they take requests from the audience – and they have a relatively good sized catalogues and fans tends to love all of them so….

  180. hwc, how would you feel if Adam had won and had to sing that song in between Bowie and Zepplin……talk about buzzkill….it was obvious in the finals that Adam was no more enthused by that song than Kris and that was the biggest perk about not winning…

Time of Our Life still somehow fit into Cookie’s set, magic rainbows and unicorns aside, but man he hates that song so much he won’t perform it live now, so really the precedent probably started with Cookie- you see when you change the rules to attract more singer song writers types they are less inclined to be happy singing trite. I think I heard Cook even tried to get it bumped off the album but when you sell so many copies of a song they aren’t going to bump it off.

  181. LOL! The freaky, rabid, insanely psychotic Glamberts who hate Kris and turned Adam losing into something good because he wouldn’t be stuck with that song are probably PISSED right now that Kris is actually getting preferrential treatment for once by TPTB after being crapped on so much over the course of the Idol season.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if it was Adam who actually went to bat for Kris to have the song removed because of the reviews or the strain to Kris vocal?

  182. sorry, techno glitch, double post. If it turns out to be triple, sorry.

  183. Kris is actually getting preferrential treatment

This is the real shocking part…Winning does get you perks

  184. Wow, an American Idol who can’t even sing his own first single on the Idol tour. Hard to know what to say about that.

Actually, no need to think, I’ve managed to get my hands on the internal memo for this one:

From: Barry Weis, Chairman and CEO RCA/Jive
    To: Simon Fuller, CEO of 19Entertainment;
Subject: What in the Hell is That?

Are you a moron? Have you looked at our stock price lately? Do you even realize what the state of the industry is? We have stables of songwriters writing potential hits and you choose that piece of crud as the Idol coronation song? You make my new recording artist sing that thing? What kind of complete idiot thinks that is a good idea? Who can have any credibility after singing about hurricanes and climbing and every freakin’ cliche in the book? Just because I let you get away with that stupid Magic Rainbow lyric last year, don’t think that I’m going to let you get away with trite tripe forever. You promised me something better after you got rid of the stupid song contest. Turns out that a bunch of housewives from Poughkeepsie have better taste in music than you.

I’m holding the entire Michael Jackson catalogue hostage until you do something about. And that’s just a warning shot. I don’t ever want to hear that song sung again or I’m going to make sure that no song controlled by Sony is ever sung on any of your stupid shows again. No Boundaries? My a$$. There are some boundaries you shall not cross.

    All the best,
    Barry

Well well well…who is the DIVA now?

And dissing songwriters in the beginning of a career would be good for Kris Allen because…

  186. edit: edited the post you were responding to

I actually think that most Adam fans are happy for Kris that he gets to sing a new song. It’s better for Kris, better for the whole tour, and it’s also a hopeful sign that 19E is not as suicidal when it comes to its clients as previously believed, which would be a great thing for Adam, Allison, and Kris. I also think (as do many fans of both these guys) that it was better for both their careers for Kris to win.

I would love to hear Man in the Mirror or Falling Slowly, but if he chooses a new song I’m sure that will be great too.

And anyone saying that NB’s sucking is Kris’s fault: no, that song just sucks. It might be harder for Kris to sing than it would be for some others to sing it, but the song itself is even more horrible than TOML (which was also horrible, no matter how popular it was) and the other winners’ songs.

  187. The other interesting thing is that the guy who took second also couldn’t do much with the song even though key wise it was better for him.

The key is a total non-issue. Every one of the guys in the band uses the Nashvile Numbering System (the I chord, the IV chord, the V chord, the II chord, and so forth) and can transpose a song up or down to any key on the fly. That’s what professional studio and touring musicians do.

  188. From what I have seen and heard, singing No Boundaries seemed to put a considerable strain on Kris’s voice. We already know that he is subject to laryngitis, which almost caused him to miss his Idol audition. Since he will be recording his album during the tour, I’ve been afraid his vocal quality on the album would suffer by the strain of singing 5 songs almost every day. I hope he chooses another song that will be gentler on his voice.

  189. Wouldn’t it be ironic if it was Adam who actually went to bat for Kris to have the song removed because of the reviews or the strain to Kris vocal?

I can totally see this as a possibility. :smile1_tb:

  190. I love your sense of humor Kirsten, especially since it has a lot of elements of the truth.

The problem isn’t that Kris can’t sing the song, because he can, but does Jive really want people to associate that song with Kris? Kris worked wonders when he re-arranged it for a few promotional appearances, but the bottom line is that it has no real melody, and the middle part of the song is unsingable, in its current arrangement. I have no idea how Kara and company didn’t realize that.

  191. Wouldn’t it be ironic if it was Adam who actually went to bat for Kris to have the song removed because of the reviews or the strain to Kris vocal?

It wouldn’t be surprising. It’s in everyone’s interest that Kris close the show with a bang. I am sure Adam wants Kris to hit it out of the park.

Kris has been playing for years, so if there is a delay in him performing a new song, I’m sure it is because he has to work out the arrangement with the band. And perhaps TPTB have heard some suggestions that people want Kris to move around the stage. He does dance well….as I remember in the group numbers. I think he should do something fun and upbeat, with back up singers, etc.

ETA- he needs to work his “sexy face” into the performance, which can be shown on the big screens!

  192. Kings of Leon cool that would make this year’s Idol concert more hip and relevant than ever…….

  193. The key is a total non-issue. Every one of the guys in the band uses the Nashvile Numbering System (the I chord, the IV chord, the V chord, the II chord, and so forth) and can transpose a song up or down to any key on the fly. That’s what professional studio and touring musicians do.

If it’s not the key, so what do you think makes Adam’s performance of this song lacking?

  194. did I mention maturin is my second choice for coronation song writer next year? Bwah.

This is a woo hoo for all concerts goers for the rest of the tour, most peeps won’t even notice NoBo is missing. Most peeps won’t know there was a set change.

something MJ would be cool. I take this is something that will have less trouble clearing?

  195. but the bottom line is that it has no real melody, and the middle part of the song is unsingable, in its current arrangement. I have no idea how Kara and company didn’t realize that.

Precisely. It’s bizarre that they would even attempt to saddle the winner with something so uncatchy. And it did seem to be putting a strain on Kris’s voice. Hell, even Adam said that it was a hard song to sing. And even if it had been given to Adam, who probably could gotten the hang of it vocally, he would have had to go all Mariah Carey/Celine Dion on it just to distract people from the lack of melody, and that would just have been unfortunate.

So, good news all around. I would sort of love to see Adam and Kris (and Allison, if one can truly dream) do an MJ thing in that vacant space now, but I’m sure they’ll replace it with another Kris solo.

  196. edit: edited the post you were responding to

Well THIS “freaky, rabid, insanely psychotic Glambert” :rolleyes_tb: couldn’t be happier for Kris! It’s a crap song, a TOTAL set killer and clearly torture on Kris’ voice to sing. I don’t know who got the balls to cut it, but good for them!

  197. Let’s face it. Kara did not write that song thinking that Kris would ever sing it. The song was written with Adam’s voice and range in mind.

You know Adam is really not responsible for everything bad in the world!! And certainly you can’t blame Adam for this song!

I don’t believe this song was written with any thought! And the lyrics don’t even make any sense.

You = who? I’m so confused!

You know what you want but how long can you wait
Every moment last forever if you feel you’ve lost your way
What if your chances are already gone
Started believing that I could be wrong
But you give me one good reason
to fight and never walk away

    What one thing?

You’ll make it through the pain (or through all your aches and pains)
    Weather the hurricane
To get to that one thing

What are you supposed to take by the hand?

When you think the road is going nowhere
Just when you’ve almost gave up on your dreams
Then take it by the hand and show you that you can

Urgh!! Officially the worst song ever!

  198. I am not blaming Adam. I love Adam. I am trying to look into Kara’s psyche and understand why she and her co-writer would ever write such terrible lyrics.

I eventually came to like Adam’s version in the studio version.

I wonder if they have signed Kara’s new contract. I thought she was okay. Maybe this will put a kink in the deal.

  199. Squirrely Jul 10th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
I think the replacement should be something similar to the rock out style of Bright Lights.

Agreed. I am so far impressed with his rhythm guitar skills and playing lead reflects his growth as a musician. More lead, Kris!

The producers couldn’t continue to allow their concert closer to take that kind of beating in the press

I suspect this is EXACTLY why the song was pulled, in addition to the crowds not responding to the song very well.

Not sure how the PTB chooses the coronations songs, but maybe in the future they will find it incumbent to like, actually listen to them before making the final choice.

  200. If it’s not the key, so what do you think makes Adam’s performance of this song lacking?

That song just had evil powers. It was both Kris’s and Adam’s worst performances of the season by several country miles. As many people said, it just seemed so wrong for both of them, and seemed as though it had been written for Danny to sing.

And now we are free of it. Celebrate.

  201. And dissing songwriters in the beginning of a career would be good for Kris Allen because’ ¦

He ain’t no pushover….present him with BAD MATERIAL and the songwriter is out the door. Why should a singer be held hostage to a songwriter….it’s the singer’s name who is forever linked with the results…not the stupid idiotic songwriter that composes such horrible drivel. That is why most of the idols have such bad inaugural CDs. Because the songwriters are horrible.

If people like Kara would come up with better material maybe they wouldn’t be facing the guillotine. Yeh for guillotines!

  202. Priceless Kirsten, I forgot there is a changing of the guard at Sony and Weiss put himself in charge of Jive which pretty much bespeaks his mindset. And yes Warner and Universal were kicking Sony’s butt until the death of Michael Jackson improved Sony’s fortunes.

Somehow I think if Adam had won, he may have kicked up enough stink to get that song killed before the tour started or insisted on a major redo – Kris figured he would give it a go- because it would certainly ruin Adam’s set as much as it does Kris……

  203. I have a solution!

Give the kid who won American Idol his choice of any one of the eight cheesy coronation songs to sing for the remainder of the tour. He’d be happy. The fans would be happy. Cheese and pointy poses would still be served!

Surely, he can find one of those songs he can sing.

Solution A: Have one of your performers sing songs that people like and that suit his style.

Solution B: Have one of your performers sing one of 8 songs that people hate and doesn’t suit his style.

I’m not the CEO of my company, but I know which one I’d pick (hint: it isn’t solution B).

  204. I agree that this is a horrible song. However, the studio version of Adam’s rendition is passable.

  205. I was all set to buy tickets for New Hamphshire, but now that I know the American Idol can’t even sing his own coronation song, why would I go to the concert?

I hear that the kid who came in second puts on a half decent show. Even if you don’t get to hear the coronation song by the kid you think sucks, it might be worth a ticket to hear the other guy.

  206. Kirsten I love your memo from Barry to Fuller!!

And I must confess to confusion over why anyone would think this is not a good idea. This is good for everyone except maybe a few select Glamberts who were happy to hear that Kris’s set suffered from the lead ballon that is NoBo. Now Kris’s set will flow more smoothly and he and the fans can enjoy a lovely conclusion to the show!!

Yeah for Kris and Yeah for the fans!! Thanks Jive and the producers of the tour – you’all play this one just right!

  207. Sunshinegirl, I am a “rabid” Adam fan who also loves Kris, Adam’s friend! I am delighted that he will no longer be saddled with that thing. I don’t know any (or at least, a very very small minority) Adam fans who dislike Kris and, in fact, Adam and Kris shared many fans, hence “Kradam”. I still believe a duet starting out with Adam and Kris that seques into a Kris single would be a great transition to Kris’ set. Adam would be sure not to overpower Kris — don’t you remember “We Are the Champions”? (Not like Renegade.) Their voices melded very well and they looked like they were enjoying singing together so much.

  208. Pulling out my Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire would be great and very edgy.

  209. hwc, how would you feel if Adam had won and had to sing that song in between Bowie and Zepplin’ ¦’ ¦talk about buzzkill’ ¦.

I would expect nothing less than Adam sucking it up and turning his first single into solid performance on the Idol Tour, just like Taylor Hicks and every other American Idol has done.

Oh, for goodness’ sake. I’m sure that Adam would be able to sing it extremely well. It is more suitable to his range than to Kris’s, and he would probably just be able to go BSC with his amazing voice on it, although it seemed more like a song for Danny than either of them. So, he would probably be able to sing it fantastically. But it would still be a horrible song–even more horrible than previous winners’ songs, all of which were horrible (but at least had some rhythm)–without any melody or rhythm, and it would still very possibly be a little bit of a momentum-killer. I’m sure he could make it a solid performance. But a solid performance in the midst of mind-blowingly brilliant performances (as all of Adam’s are) is not a good thing, and I wouldn’t want Adam saddled with that.

Give people crap to sing, and no matter how well they sing/perform it, it’s still crap. I admit that I can sort of enjoy listening to Adam’s NB studio version if I can turn my brain off and just listen to his vocals, but it’s still a crappy song.

A person doesn’t have to love Kris to admit that it’s not his fault that this unbelievably horrible, life-sucking song was a momentum-killer in his set. It’s good for everyone involved in that tour not to have to deal with that song anymore.

  210. However, the studio version of Adam’s rendition is passable.

Not by any standard I care to measure by. Worst song he didn’t perform on idol. And the idiot who made both Kris and Adam record this and put it on the tour album should be beheaded at dawn. Man….I want to use that guillotine something awful…

    Marie, Marie where are you?

  211. That song just had evil powers. It was both Kris’s and Adam’s worst performances of the season by several country miles. As many people said, it just seemed so wrong for both of them, and seemed as though it had been written for Danny to sing.

And now we are free of it. Celebrate.

Well both Kris and Adam said they didn’t have a lot of time to learn it, and with a song that crappy, and so effin’ wordy, one would need some serious time to try and find out a way to make it not suck as hard. Like Kris did with his stripped down version for later events. But that was after he had more time to work with it. But I don’t think that version of it would translate very well for his set, hence his going with the more straightforward, and therefore suckier, version of the song.

And yeah, I agree, the song was more in Danny’s wheelhouse than either Adam or Kris’s.

  212. Moving on… it’s awesome this song was pulled from the set because it was so out of place with Kris’ other songs. Kris always picked great songs on the show and I’m confident before this was ever announced that he had an ace up his sleeve. He went “all in” (to use a poker term) on the show when he performed Heartless acoustically, and it blew everyone away. He knows exactly what he’s doing and I’m sure we’re all going to love the replacement!

  213. I don’t think there is a snow ball’s chance in you-know-where, that Kris will sing Sex on Fire, but I can dream.

I loved his version of Apologize. That would work. The piano is aleady on the stage.

  214. I still believe a duet starting out with Adam and Kris that seques into a Kris single would be a great transition to Kris’ set. Adam would be sure not to overpower Kris ‘” don’t you remember ‘We Are the Champions’ ? (Not like Renegade.) Their voices melded very well and they looked like they were enjoying singing together so much.

I really like that idea. Have Kris come on stage at the end of Adam’s set and they duet. Maybe they could do a MJ song here, tribute stuff on the big screen….then Adam exits stage left and Kris starts his solo set.

ETA-in addition to the duet, give Kris another solo so Adam doesn’t have more.

  215. The American Idol not singing the coronation song? This is like not singing the Star Spangled Banner before a baseball game or not singing America the Beautiful on the 4th of July. It’s a sacriledge. Idol fans the world over are devastated by this news. What’s next? No more group songs?

  216. The other interesting thing is that the guy who took second also couldn’t do much with the song even though key wise it was better for him.

Don’t disagree that NO ONE can do anything good with this piece of crap song.

But just to be accurate, they were not allowed to change the song’s melody but they could change the key. For the AI final Kris was in D# Major and Adam was in A# Major.

  217. Thank youisisdagmar Adam clearly put a lot of thought into his set and can you imagine him having work around NoBo – the only possible option would be to do it first and hope everyone forgets about it by the end of the set, but most performers like to start on a high note…….

  218. Not by any standard I care to measure by. Worst song he didn’t perform on idol. And the idiot who made both Kris and Adam record this and put it on the tour album should be beheaded at dawn. Man’ ¦.I want to use that guillotine something awful’ ¦

    Marie, Marie where are you

I like the song – you want to talk bad whip out Britney Spears album.

  219. This is revolutionary! I don’t think any winner has been able to avoid singing the coronation song and that Kris is finally freed from this turkey is good news for him. Kris is a musician, and certainly capable of dropping in something acoustic as a replacement while they work out an arrangement for a new number. The song was horrible, didn’t suit him at all, and should never have been picked in the first place. Good for Kris!

  220. “The other interesting thing is that the guy who took second also couldn’t do much with the song even though key wise it was better for him.”

Um well, not exactly. The Gifted Adam Lambert could change up that pos to kill in his sleep. Given free reign by AI. That’s the problem here. The boy is an actual TALENT. All those rearrangements on AI were not anybody but Adam Lambert. Seriously, Cher?

So now we have poor Kris stumbling behind the scenes with not a SINGLE FREAKING SONG to replace it in his repertoire? The Gifted Adam Lambert could show up tonight with the pos NB and make it work or whip out any number of other replacements without even needing a backup band or singer….ie Is Anybody Listening or in HEBREW Shir Lashalom, Crawl Through Fire, Brigadoon, or how ’bout you put a bunch of names of songs in a hat and let him pull. He’d kill.

Hopefully, with Bromance love Adam will help Kris out here. I didn’t know Kris was susceptible to laryngitis. That’s what you get when you and your brother show up for AI tryouts for a joke. No training no clue. Then we have Archey and Sparks killing their cords too, right? sigh…Keep bashing Adam Lambert who’s worked for 17 years with discipline and dedication, people.

  221. It’s a crap song. If Adam had to sing it and they pulled it it would a mercy. Just like it’s a mercy that Kris doesn’t have to sing it. It’s the worst POS coronation song in history. And I agree with whoever said it’s probably affecting Kris’ voice to sing it.

If Kris complained, thank you Kris.

I’d be down with Adam and Kris singing “Under Pressure”. Adam could do the Freddie parts and Kris could do the Bowie parts.

  223. Kris’s best song in his set (my opinion) with the best response in Vancouver was “Bright Lights”, something along those lines would be great…

  224. HWC:

Kris sings No Boundaries just fine. The problem is two-fold.

    1. The song SUCKS. The audience hates it, the reviewers hate it, and Kris AND ADAM both hate it. Even Kara seems to hate it! If Adam had been stuck having to sing this song, he likely would’ve tried to get it pulled if possible as well (I’m assuming here that Kris asked the producers to take it out of his set)

    2. The song wasn’t written for Kris’ vocal range. I believe it was written for Danny — TPTB clearly were shocked that Gokey wasn’t in the finale — and the song had already been written by then. It is putting too much strain on his voice, which could lead to real problems down the road. They could transpose the key, but it was evidently written in a key to make the whole “you can go higher…” part of the lyrics be the focal point of the song — and that is where the key goes up even higher.

As for the previous winners and their own crap coronation songs – the ONLY one who has had any success in not making his/her song sound like a total piece of crap is probably David Cook. I bet all 7 of them — if they have even heard this news about “NoBo” — are thinking that they wished they had been able to get the producers to pull their coronation song during their Idol tour run.

  225. Truthiness what a great name, one of my favourite new Colloquialisms, Colbert fan as well as Lambert fan? And you speak the truth, bwah.

  226. Ricket has asked people to twit song suggestion to Kris and since the news is in L.A times, I guess he has received some twits about it!

The last thing I would do is suggest that fans bombard Kris with tweets. As if he’d have time to go through that mess. LOL.

  227. edit: I edited the post you’re responding to. don’t question the motives of you your fellow posters.

  228. Sorry girlygirl, I agree with everything else but the only coronation song that isn’t total crap is AMLT from Kelly Clarkson. The rest are just warmed over cheese or worse.

  229. Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire is great. But I see it suit Alli or Adam more than Kris.

  230. Well actually sometimes they sing God Bless America or America the Beautiful at sporting events, GASP.

  231. “hwc
    Jul 10th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
The American Idol not singing the coronation song? This is like not singing the Star Spangled Banner before a baseball game or not singing American the Beautiful on the 4th of July. It’s a sacriledge. Idol fans the world over are devastated by this news. What’s next? No more group songs?”

OMG you are hilarious…post more, post more. “idol fans the world over are devasted by this news…” OMG I think I peed my pants…wait, you are being sarcastic right?

  232. Slightly OT: Speaking of “Bright Lights”, I’m hoping that’s the song Kris does when he is on Conan next week…

  233. suggestions that people want Kris to move around the stage. He does dance well’ ¦.as I remember in the group numbers.

No, Kris cannot dance as he laughed about in interviews. Watch much?

Dancing is not Adam Lambert’s forte either per se, but he can pull it off as a trained stage actor with 17 years performing experience and the DISCIPLINE TO WORK on it.

Performance art with dance type moves, however IS his forte, second to his beautiful tenor and alternate rock vocals. Why can’t Kris move around exactly?

  234. edit: edited the post you were responding to

I guess all us Adamites and Krisomites here at MJs know our vocal limitations. I’m pretty sure that I am very happy that both Adam and Kris and the rest of humanity never have to be forced to hear or sing this again.

And for some strange reason I’m thinking that most people are pretty happy about this wonderful event….guess most everybody is a total Kris fan, today.

Oh…and just for the record….I think Adam’s No Boundaries sucks and I am and have been his number one fan since the day he appeared on my TV screen. Loving Adam does not take away the God given sanity that I am blessed with….I can choose to say a song is crap no matter who sings it.

  235. I am certain that Adam has the vocal ability to sign NoBo and the studio version (without the overpowering, off-key backup signing in the beginning) is not totally heinous but can we let NoBo dies a quick death.

Adam does well performing songs that mean something to him or that are just plain fun. This song doesn’t mean anything. I don’t even know what it’s about.

IMO the only possible way Adam could have done NoBo in his set would have been to make it a duet with Alison, rearrange it as a hard rock duet and make it a joke. All I know is that if he had been stuck with the turkey of a song, he would have figured out something creative to do with it.

  236. And the irony is that Cook made it known that he didn’t like singing TOML even though he managed to make it a hit and do something with it. And as I recall he seemed to be able to get away without singing TOML at all promotional appearances as the winner of Idol – he seemed to mix it up as he does now. I wonder is he the only Idol winner who refuses to sing the coronation song on his first official tour? I say Cook sowed the initial seeds of discontent and how they could then come up with a crappier song the next season is mind blowing.

Seriously everyone here could have submitted better lyrics, especially since they had like what 6 months, nine months to do it, looks like they wrote it the night before they had to record it.

  237. Thank God! I am an Adam fan only but I am so happy for Kris now, not having to sing that song again! Neither of them could do that song good, so I am hoping for something better for Kris now. But also I’m a little worried that he will have almost no time to reherse a new song. Maybe they already planned a new song before the tour, like they knew NB wouldn’t be such a hit? Hopefully he’ll do something he didn’t sing on the show, and maybe something a little edgy.
Idk, it would be cool to hear something surprising. Like when we heard Heartless the first time. Not that I love that song or his version too much, but at least it made me listen to him and notice him more.

  238. The last thing I would do is suggest that fans bombard Kris with tweets. As if he’d have time to go through that mess. LOL.

    No kidding.

Besides, I have a feeling that Kris has a few more tricks up his sleeve.

I remember watching those poor guys try to be diplomatic about the song on LKL. It was painful to watch. And given Kara’s negative reaction to the song, it seems possible that she didn’t even have that much to do with the writing of it.

  240. Kings of Leon cool that would make this year’s Idol concert more hip and relevant than ever’ ¦’ ¦.

I know next to nothing about KOL, except for two things: Kris loves their new album, and the song “Use Somebody” that I heard on XM radio is great! So I think that song would be amazing for Kris–would love to hear what he could do with it.
Option 2: do one of the songs he has been working on for his album, hopefully co-written. The buzz would be good for all involved, and when released could be a big hit. Just a thought.

  241. I love Adam, like Kris, I have absolutely no desire to see them duet on this tour. Kris deserves another solo song, not a duet. These guys after the tour will prolly remain friends but musically, the faster they seperate the happier I’ll be. As far as Adam’s set, why should it be affected at all?? If it’s kris’s choice to drop the song and he finally got tptb to agree, he should have some sub song ready. He’s great acoustically, why not him and his guitar, switch bright light to right after the acoustic number, finish with ans and then hey jude.

  242. IMO the only possible way Adam could have done NoBo in his set would have been to make it a duet with Alison, rearrange it as a hard rock duet and make it a joke.

ngl, a part of me really wants to see that.

  243. That’s so very, very, very not true. There’s a little thing called ‘copyright’ that entitles the holder to be paid even if a tiny bit of the words or music is used without permission.

Know why when you get the servers at a restaurant to sing to the birthday boy or girl they DON’T sing the famous ‘Happy Birthday to You?’ It’s because for the restaurant to do it, they would have to pay royalty fees because the song is copyrighted.

They have to pay they copyright holder in order to be able to sing it in concert, but they don’t have the same clearance issues. It’s when you record the performance (for sale or for television) that clearance becomes harder to get. The Idols often sing current songs on tour that they couldn’t get cleared for the show.

For live performances, they submit the money to one of the performance rights organizations (such as ASCAP or BMI).

  244. I don’t really understand why Kris can’t continue to sing NB on the tour until the replacement has been decided and rehearsed. Him singing a song that has already been staged and rehearsed for 2 and a half mins everynight is no big deal on top of having to rehearse a bit during down time.

I know it’s not the best song and it probably isn’t gettiing the same reception one of his other AI songs would get but leaving it out until a replacement’s found is in a way cheating the fans and paying public from one song on the tour (I know that’s no big deal but I’m sure Kris fans will want to see him for a bit longer .. even if it is having to sing that song).

The only reason I can think of them pulling it before a replacement is found is that it’s straining Kris’s voice to sing it. Hopefully he’s not having vocal problems this early in the tour and that if he is experiencing a problem it rectifies itself soon.

  245. Count me in as yet another rabid Adam fantard who LOVES Kris and the last thing he needs is that that vocal albatross hanging around his neck. Whoo Hoo for stepping up, PTB!!

I’ve been watching Adam’s Tacoma videos by MrsHappy2Sing (man, she’s got good ones and they go into full screen without losing resolution :gulp_ee:), Kris doesn’t have to sing NB and will hopefully have a new song in by the time I go to the show A WEEK FROM TODAY. Adam will be on LKL in a couple of hours …

    LIFE IS GOOD!!

  246. Reminder:

If this thread degenerates into a fanwar I’m closing comments. Those of you who have magically appeared to bait Kris’s fans? Knock it off NOW.

Also, I think Kris is doing just fine on his own without Adam’s “help”. There’s also no evidence whatsoever that Kris had to give up the song because he couldn’t sing it.

  247. by the way, for those that are curious, Kelly did not sing A Moment Like This on the Idol tour- at least not my show but I’m pretty sure she didn’t on any show.

I just want to know if he’ll be replacing a song tonight!

  248. Oooh, great idea, girly girl. Bright Lights would be a great choice for the Conan broadcast.

I have a feeling it might be Heartless, though. It is the most downloaded Idol song of ’09, with more downloads than even Kris’ version of No Boundaries.

I suppose it might depend on how much time they give him.

One of his strengths on Idol, was always finding the right song at the right time. I trust him more to choose his song, than fans tweeting the LA Times. My real dream (as opposed to my dream-dream of Sex on Fire), is a brand new single being debuted.

  249. No, Kris cannot dance as he laughed about in interviews. Watch much?

I thought he did well with “shake your body down to the ground” during disco week. So I guess it is a matter of taste. Of course Paula worked with him on that. I was assuming a choreographer could work with Kris for his new solo number. I’m not expecting Fosse from Kris, but a little head bob etc., would be cute.

I also think Adam is a good dancer….maybe I’m easily pleased.

  250. IMO the only possible way Adam could have done NoBo in his set would have been to make it a duet with Alison, rearrange it as a hard rock duet and make it a joke

Yep. That woulda been cute and funny.

  251. Adam will be on LKL in a couple of hours ‘ ¦

    LIFE IS GOOD!!

I agree that life is good, but I thought the LKL thing wasn’t today? Isn’t it more Michael Jackson stuff?

  252. THANK LORD FOR REMOVING THE WORST SONG EVER, I’m an Adam Lambert Fan but I’m so happy for Kris , now he can sing a real song for the audience to enjoy,. Man in the mirror for example, he sang it very well in the top 36. :clap_tb:

  253. Adam will be on LKL in a couple of hours ‘ ¦

Will he? My guide says it’s a Michael Jackson tribute thing on LKL…

    Does anybody really know?

  254. @Kirsten, your letter is genius!!

    @isdagmar

That song just had evil powers. It was both Kris’s and Adam’s worst performances of the season by several country miles.

    …evil powers… i’m still laughing it

  255. Change is good and this is one change this year that finally works for the benefit of all except the songwriters of the song who will lose royalties.

Oh I’m just devastated – Kara can just up her contract fee to cover those lost royalties. This is interesting – people are saying that Kara doesn’t like the song – do you think maybe she was in on the first draft of the song that got handed over to someone who ruined it and then she got too busy to make sure she heard what they did to it?
Because frankly that is what I don’t understand – given so much was made about the fact that song was going to be written by Kara all season long, if I were Kara I would have not allowed my name to be attached to that song and I would have had a tantrum, threatened a boycott or something if it turned out some later parties had mucked up my work. But I would have wanted to make sure I knew what the final version of the song was before it even hit a studio or Idol’s lips.

I am happy for all the future concert goers this season. Congratulations. A victory for the little people.

  256. I think it would be great if Kris had one of his singles from his new album and would be able to debut and sing that on the idol tour. To get a brand new Kris song that no one else has sung!!!

I’m really here just for Adam, but Kris is good too and I wont mind sitting through his set (even with NoBo) and I hope he is successful.

  257. today is a victory for all !!!! horrah

i would recommend a kings of leon song for kris….or maybe Underdog by Spoon? ummm, he’s pretty good at picking songs at the last minute and making his own, so it shouldnt be an issue.

I hope this means he’ll have the new song ready for the LA show :) purrtyplease

  258. Pulling out my Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire would be great and very edgy.

that would be more edgy…. very very sexy!! ;)

i think AI is too family oriented for that though

  259. Well, Adam is doing Whole Lotta Love. Of course, the “sex” in that song is slightly better disguised than it is in a song called “Sex on Fire.”

  260. I saw Kris sing NB in Tacoma and think he did a pretty good job with the song–and BTW, any singer can tell you that you can change the key of a song very easily so you can sing it. I’ve done this many times (and sheet music downloading sites even have automated transposing software to make it easy for you). This all means that Kris “having to sing a song that was too high for him” is not a valid issue. If a song is too high, you just change it to a lower key so it isn’t. Not brain surgery.

I think the reason the song was dumped from the show was that it sucked and was not well-received. Kris did all he could with it, but it just wasn’t a performance friendly piece of music. If you are closing a show (especially after someone like Adam), you want have the best material they can. The producers know this and I have a feeling this move was (at least mostly) on their part, and not because of complaints from Kris. I think this is especially true because of the reviews coming out–the folks in charge really do pay attention to this stuff. Bad reviews = less $$. Plus, you want your winner to have every advantage possible when singing his set.

I think Kris might do a Michael Jackson song because he is a huge fan, and it would be a lovely tribute. Kris seems to know the whole MJ catalog, so it would be interesting to know what he would choose if he goes in this direction.

I’m looking forward to this evening’s concert to find out what happens.

  261. Adam and Kris are Friends. Great friends. Both want whats best for the other. The taking out of NO Boundaries most likely is best for everyone. From what I read it interrupts the flow of Kris’s Set. I am sure Adam wants Kris to be fantastic. NONE of the Idols come across as if they want any of the other ones to fail or do bad in any shape matter of form.

By the way the length of a set does not make it good. I am sure the two nights that possibly Kris will have a shorter set (which is all conjecture on here) may actually turn out to work in his favor as having the best set. Now he has a true representation of what he wants to convey to his fans and potential new ones. His energy and heart can be in the set more. Possibly they will let him sing a longer version of Hey Jude and end it himself ( even with adding the new song I still think that is what they should do.) for the two nights without the other Idols and then let them come on for Don’t stop Believing.

edit: please don’t lecture or fingerwag

I am a Kradamison fan. (Kris Adam Allison) I want them all to do well. But I don’t want them to do well by hoping others fail or by bashing others. Bad karma breeds bad Karma

  262. Of course, the ‘sex’ in that song is slightly better disguised

I’m old but I ain’t dead yet and I’ve got Whole Lotta Love and Slow Ride all figured out!

And I Have been recently introduced to the Kings of Leon and I must say they are very, very good and I would enjoy hearing their material on the tour.

  263. I am confident of one thing — Kris has a really good sense of his own talent and has consistently done a great job picking songs. He’ll make a good choice.

I just still thrilled that he doesn’t have to sing NoBo anymore!!

  264. I’m happy for Kris, but kind of feel sorry for Kara.

I’d suggest not feeling sorry for Kara. She wrote that piece of junk. And she even had *help.* And I’m sure they got pretty good money for doing it. No good melody, ridiculously rangy (high, low, everywhere) to no conceivable purpose because the ranginess doesn’t exprss anything and in fact it hardly even shows except in the discomfort of the singers, and the world’s stupidest lyric. I hope she thinks harder the next time she says, “okay, this song is good enough.”

I’m not sure it would be bad for the set to replace Nope Boundaries with something slow. I suspect the quality of the song matters more than the tempo, in this case. I suspect Boundaries only killed the set because it’s so horrible. On top of everything else, the song doesn’t really *go* anywhere. It just feels like sort of tortured struggle on the singer’s part for no payoff.

  265. Excellent news that tour producers have the guts to do what the TV show producers are apparantly too ball-deficient to do: not include a horrible piece of “music”, just because it’s always been done. Good on them. The idea of writing the winner a brand new song is good in spirit, but since they’ve insisted on dreck from the self-help aisles, they need to re-think this.

I’ve not listened to any of Kris’ videos, so I’m finding the discussion of voice problems a little concerning. If it is because of the nature of the song, that’s easy to fix – cut it or transpose it. Since the lyrics are laughable, they’re doing the wise thing. I hope any vocal problems are not due to performing nightly. I know the tv show is rigorous, but don’t know if they sing everyday. Some contestants aren’t use to that in their pre-idol careers. Adam’s probably ok on that front, because he’s got a trained voice and had a career that probably had him singing at least 4-5 nights a week. I don’t know about the others – would a hotel pianist, like Matt be singing that often? Probably.

But I have a suggestion regarding the bridge period, that should please Kris fans and also help preserver his voice while he gets a new song worked up. One thing that his fans consistently say they like about him (and rightly so) is that, whereas Adam or someone else might be a better vocalist, Kris’ strength is that he’s a musician – plays several instruments, writes music, arranges music, etc. So, here’s what he should do – do an instrumental number. Probably piano, because solo guitar or viola might be a bit thin in the barns they’re playing. But solo piano would be lovely, it would show off the musician side of him. And if he did an original number, all the better for showing off the writing skills his fans love. Personally, I like instrumental numbers in a concert, and it would really set him apart, while not taxing his voice. Even if it’s not a vocal issue, I think this would be great.

Or, given the love of duets, bring Matt and/or Scott back on to play with him. Personally, I’d like a Kris solo better.

  266. I don’t know, Isisdagmar, the last I heard was it was the 10th. If it got changed, I hadn’t heard about it.

  267. Disguised lyrically not in the performance by all accounts.

Very true. And given the (even more) ear-splitting shrieks that can be heard when he sings “every inch of my love” I suppose it’s not even disguised lyrically. :)

Is anyone else feeling more optimistic about 19E? They let Adam get all *human slinky* on WLL and his Bowie Medley and now they’re actually making the smart decision to drop NB? Might they actually understand what is good/sells and what isn’t/doesn’t?

  268. I’ve been watching Adam’s Tacoma videos by MrsHappy2Sing (man, she’s got good ones and they go into full screen without losing resolution :gulp_ee:),

AMAZING, aren’t they!?! Her WLL video is fantastic, but I especially love the Bowie Medley one. With such a crisp, closeup view, you can really see him work his sexual magic! :wub_tb:

If you haven’t seen it yet, you should really take a look at the “special view” of Adam sexiness that lucyintheskhi (on youtube) posted for us! The comments on all of these videos are also extremely entertaining..lol

  269. fine, i can live with kris only doing 4 songs. during that timeslot, i do insist that he does the dance from disco night. haha

  270. I just thought of something while reading the comment about Adam and Kris’ friendship — if anyone stood up to the producers about NB, it probably would have been Adam. I remember reading that during the show he was the one who went to the producers about lip-synching performances on the show. He seems to be the one who is most comfortable standing up TPTB.

  271. I wonder if Megan wish she could change her songs, she’s been getting slammed in the press. BTW I looked up that Anthony Green she mention in an interview, he was so not to my liking.

  272. Is anyone else feeling more optimistic about 19E? They let Adam get all *human slinky* on WLL and now they’re actually making the smart decision to drop NB? Might they actually understand what is good/sells and what isn’t/doesn’t?

I have been feeling very optimistic about 19E/19R based on a lot of the thing Adam has said about getting support on the show and getting some creative freedom on his record. Then they let him really do WLL.

I’m sure that Kris has been getting similar treatment, he just doesn’t talk about much of the behind-the-scenes activity. But, now 19E has the sense to drop NoBo. So the world seems pretty good to me right now!!

  273. edit: stay focused on the subject, not making comments on your fellow posters

  274. fine, i can live with kris only doing 4 songs. during that timeslot, i do insist that he does the dance from disco night. haha

I thought Kris was adorable on disco night! Epecially when he is standing at the end of the row while the other guys are sitting down. You know, the head bob thing.

  275. HALLE-FREAKIN’-LUJAH! They finally listened! It’s a miracle! I love Kris and watching him have to sing that crap fest was painful. thank God TPTB had enough sense to relieve Kris of that duty.

  276. Well, Adam is doing Whole Lotta Love. Of course, the ‘sex’ in that song is slightly better disguised than it is in a song called ‘Sex on Fire.’

lol .. there’s no disguising what is meant by “I wanna give you every inch of my love”

  277. @dhunken ^^^THIS to your whole post.

@madefourbabies, no I haven’t seen lucyintheskhi’s, I’ll definitely check that out – thanks! Especially if Adam’s LKL was rescheduled for MJ.

  278. I would love it if Kris sang “Falling Slowly” in place of No boundaries. I didn’t know that song beforehand and when he did it on the show I loved it. But, whatever he sings I’m sure he’ll sing it very well and the crowd will love it. :smile2_tb:

I’m an Adam fan and I’ve been doing a bit of hopscotching today. Interesting, too, I happen to be skipping the same squares as you.

This. Plus I hope no more acoustic guitar. Kris can dance and move some and it would show more diversity if he did another up tempo song like the very well performed “Bright Lights”.

  280. I thought Kris was adorable on disco night! Epecially when he is standing at the end of the row while the other guys are sitting down.

    Oh please anything except disco!!

This show is actually getting credit from reviewers as being pretty good and more current than they expected.

My big hope is now that they have gotten rid of NoBo that they take away Anoops nerd glasses. Love the silver sneakers but what were they thinking with the glasses!?!

  281. I wonder if Megan wish she could change her songs, she’s been getting slammed in the press.

I’d hope all of them have and use the freedom to change things up some as the tour progresses. It’s not primarily an issue of songs not clicking, but just the normal thing to do in a tour. All of them, band included, will be bored shitless if they do the same thing night after night.

Season 5, I know there was some changing, at least for 1 & 2. Can’t remember about the others.

  282. think the reason the song was dumped from the show was that it sucked and was not well-received. Kris did all he could with it, but it just wasn’t a performance friendly piece of music.

Yep. I actually think both guys did a reasonably good job of the song in their studio versions. But it’s just a crummy song.

It’s not that it’s “high”; it’s that it has a very wide range, jumps around in that range a lot, and doesn’t seem to do the jumping for any reason that relates the lyric or whatever. You can’t lower the key, because then you can’t reach the *bottom* notes.

Plus, it has no melody, and Kris is an expressive kind of guy so he needs songs with lyrics that a person can express. And this song would be better off sung as la la la la la, because the lyrics are so crummy. But because it has no melody, lalala would sound bad too.

Definitely “not performance friendly” in *any* way. It’s the kind of song that, as a songwriter, you shove into the bottom of your drawer. So to write it for a “special” use like this just seems incredible to me. (Of course, I feel that way more or less about *all* the coronation songs. But to me this one’s lyrical hideousness, especially, is rivaled only by those semi-coronation songs that they gave to Kat and Bo. (and they only gave them those because they knew in advance that there was no way they could win, I’ll bet.)

I like the idea of Kris doing an instrumental, but something tells me that he really only plays guitar as an accompaniment to his singing, so I doubt he’d be comfortable suddenly playing it as a solo instrument for probably the first time in front of 10,000 people. And he’s really not much of a pianist, so far as i can tell, probably because, as I understand it, he’s only been playing for a couple of years (maybe less.)

I can’t imagine that there isn’t some nice song that he’s sung for years that he could pull out and sing as an acoustic thing. If he did it with his patented heartfelt style, I’d think he could even have “a moment” with that, depending on the song.

  283. I love it when guys dance, even if it’s a little goofy. It’s charming.

  284. The last thing I would do is suggest that fans bombard Kris with tweets. As if he’d have time to go through that mess. LOL.

I agree mj …. he has 3 shows in a row starting tonight and the Seacrest co-hosting thing tomorrow

anyway, i’m sure this is already all figured out at the moment

  285. OMFG — The shocking things you see when you log onto mjsbigblog — just got home, and I thought I was hallucinating when I saw that headline. With 320 comments (that I haven’t had time to read yet) I’m sure anything I say would be redundant. However, I must say I was disheartened to see the really nasty comments in the L.A. Times thread, particularly since I’m pretty sure Kris will read them.

  286. I love it when guys dance, even if it’s a little goofy. It’s charming

Please, explain to me how guys who can sing like an angel can’t dance to save their souls and have absolutely no rhythm. I would think that to sing on beat would translate to move on beat….but, so often the beat of the music and their voices does not coordinate with their bodies. Some of them can’t even clap in rhythm and they are singing the damn song…..go figure!

  287. That’s great news. Maybe it also means he’ll get out a new single sooner rather than later. I hope he performs “Man in the Mirror” as the replacement song on the tour.

  288. For all of you going yeah! Think on this:

    1. This is Kris Allen’s first single – when the footnote is written it may well say ‘Kris Allen’s First Single was a BOMB’ !

    1) AI fans don’t look at a coronation song as a true 1st single…that’s why they are universally made fun of by viewers and critics

    2) huh, expensive, how? if anything, it should signal to all writers that lazy work does not get rewarded. you get paid to write for a freakin living, come up w. something better than NB.

    3) haha, ummm…no. it says fans hate NB no matter who sings it and TPTB should be ashamed of themselves for allowing to be produced. lame AI coronation songs are pretty much the exception to the “as a fan i must love EVERYTHING my guy performs” rule.

    4) lets keep it real. the number of peeps who love or even like the song are in the minority…and most of those will be A-OK w. the substitute song.

    5) he’s doing cartwheels in the buff right now . (hes a musician, this is what he does for a living LOL )

  289. Will: I read a few of those, too, and couldn’t believe the ugliness. It’s sad. I’m pretty sure some of those people don’t like puppies, either.

  290. Nice! I still think Kris should get another song in addition to “No Boundaries” because I do kind of like that song, but I agree it doesn’t fit Kris and I’m sure they will replace it with something great. “Falling Slowly” perhaps?!

Sucks for the fans for the next couple shows though…they will get less Kris! Glad my show isn’t for another month and 6 days!

  291. Just woke up, it’s almost 8am here but I’ve just seen a miracle. No more No Boundaries on the tour. But having one song less isn’t good. Let him play something acoustic, so he wouldn’t need the band, or a viola intermission. Whatever so long as he gets a full set of 5 songs.

  292. Adam will be on LKL in a couple of hours ‘ ¦

It’s been bumped for Michael Jackson stuff. Won’t happen tonight. No word on rescheduling. So there is something to dilute the Just Say No! to NoBo happiness.

Oh and yes lavender1960 , I’m also a Stewart and Colbert fantard as well of one of Adam’s.

  293. However, I must say I was disheartened to see the really nasty comments in the L.A. Times thread, particularly since I’m pretty sure Kris will read them.

I’ve stopped reading the comments on news sites and magazines sites – some people are overly nasty just to be hurtful. I can deal with a snarky comment or cheekiness but some of those people are evil. And I hate that Kris will see that too, I hate for all of them to read the hurtful comments, but it mostly bothers me when they are directed at Adam or Kris.

  294. i would DIE if Kris did “sex on fire”…. holy smokes. the title and lyrics are rather sexified but kris singing it would keep it PG-13 (the boy is hot but i dont think he would be doing adam’s mic-hump move)…. so the level of SEXAY would be roughly equivalent to my favorite glittery alien singing an only suggestive song? right?

    So, PTB… does

human slinky singing suggestive song = calm crooner singing overtly sexy song?

    Y/Y? (purty please?)

i also agree that NoBo was probably cut for both the career and voice damage it was doing. i would also like to think that kris was the one that made the call. adam might be my rock god, but i dont think he needs to be, or is, Kris’s savior.

and can we PLEASE stop with the assumptions that “kris’s fans would X because adam got Y or adam’s fans are doing X to prove Y”…. i REALLY think a majority of their fans, at the very least, are respectful of the other and are even very LIKELY to enjoy them both. but maybe im just a naive idol virgin.

  295. anyway, i’m sure this is already all figured out at the moment

YEP. And a little birdie tells me this has been in the works for a few days. So save those tweets, peeps.

  296. Ha..I wonder since Kris and Adam are such good friends if Adam actually had a helping hand in getting this song pulled? I mean Adam is a Take control kind of Guy and Adam See’s that Kris struggles with the song so he helps Kris raise a little Hell..lol Hey what are friends for.

Not saying that Kris is not able to speak for himself, just wondering if he had a little push from a friend?

I think it was a great Idea to remove to song, just hope he does something new other than anything he did on the show…

  297. YEP. And a little birdie tells me this has been in the works for a few days. So save those tweets, peeps.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. This news would never have become public without planning ahead of time. Kris is probably already working on his replacement song with the band.

  298. Reminder:

I’m still editing many posts here. If you haven’t read my guidelines, I suggest you do it now.

    4. Don’t attempt to mod the thread. That’s my job.

  299. I wonder if 19E is just going to cut their losses and let the No Boundaries singles just die on the vine at Itunes, with no more marketing, etc. It would seem like the very humane thing to do. The songs are out on the tour albums (so sad) so Kara and her crew will get their bit of royalties…wonder if that is why both are on the album, to help recoup the “obvious” ill-spent money that was paid to the writing team (if they didn’t have a per sell contract).

Hopefully this little hiccup will convince TPTB that a coronation song is slightly stupid (no, actually, really stupid) and that the “best” performance of the year is potentially a better seller.

And MJ…with all your sources and your knowledge…are you telling us that there might be a pleasant surprise tonight?

  300. The only real thing I’m miffed about tonight is how Kris will have less songs than Adam. I don’t mind Kris having fewer songs if it’s better for him, but I know a few
Glamberts who’d probably gloat about it and it’ll piss me off.

Well many of Kris’ fans want a song taken away from Adam along with the fog and his jacket.

But wait, if we take away a song from Adam do we have to take one away from Danny? And then one away from Allison? Let’s see, then there’s Matt, Anoop and all the way down to Sarver. Wow, the show should be over in about 20 minutes.

  301. I really liked She Works Hard For The Money, and I think that song, or something like it, is necessary to lighten up his set. He has no fun songs in his set, currently, and most of the others do.

I guess I see your point, but speaking just for myself, as a fan of Kris, I’ve never said or thought that Adam is a better vocalist. I do think of Kris as a musician, but as a singer who’s a musician. Not as an instumentalist.

No Boundaries: First, it sucks. Second, Kris himself has said what’s wrong with it: you don’t have a chance to breathe. There are too many notes. It isn’t rhe range. Kris his a very good range, as Masterclass Lady, on her blog, and others, have said. But if you can’t breathe, you can’t support notes.

I’ve actually looked up the lyrics and tried to sing it, and it’s a bitch.

  302. Let’s face it. Kara did not write that song thinking that Kris would ever sing it. The song was written with Adam’s voice and range in mind.

Not at all. It was written for Danny IMO.

  303. YEP. And a little birdie tells me this has been in the works for a few days. So save those tweets, peeps.

Ah-ha! So that’s why Kris was willing to risk getting stiffed with some Canadian bills by shopping in Canada. He was buying sheet music. And here I thought the dude was picking up a coffee and a scone at Starbucks. He was too freakin’ busy to mess around with over-priced British pastries. He was re-jigging his set.

Wait, you mean it wasn’t my scathing review of the song that caused it to get turfed? Man, I’m crushed.

  304. It might be quite nice if he sings Man In The Mirror … not just because of the whole MJ thing, but also because it was Kris’s first proper performance and it will be nice to see how he performs it having gained a lot more experience during the show.

Although of course it is another ballad so he may want something more upbeat.

  305. Well, if the birdie is right, then maybe Kris already has the song rehearsed and will debut it tonight. YAY!

  306. Well many of Kris’ fans want a song taken away from Adam along with the fog and his jacket.

Not the JACKET! I think Adam would get violent if anyone messes with his JACKET.

  307. I thought Canadians drank tea like their ancestors…another myth debunked. I hope MJ has some concert going reporters tonight….I would hate to have to listen to a cell phone cast of the concert….my ears, my ears.

  308. Well many of Kris’ fans want a song taken away from Adam along with the fog and his jacket.

We’d take away his pants too, but we are afraid that some of the Adam fans might like that (plus, we no longer need that as a distraction during NoBo).

  309. AnoopDoggDesai i’m sure y’all have heard that kris has a new song in his set. just heard him sound check it, and it’s amazing! sacramento is in for a treat less than 20 seconds ago from web

  310. I agree butte009, No Boundaries is right into Danny’s wheelhouse. Big, soaring cheese, dipped in cheese, layered with cheese, and covered with sweet, creamy cheese.

I said the very first time it was sung that it had Danny written all over it, and I stand by that.

Holy c*ap. I love one Mr. Noop. In for a treat? Yay, me!

  311. It looks like Kris might be singing his new song tonight. Here is what Anoop twittered about it:

i’m sure y’all have heard that kris has a new song in his set. just heard him sound check it, and it’s amazing! sacramento is in for a treat

  312. YEP. And a little birdie tells me this has been in the works for a few days. So save those tweets, peeps.

okay, now I’m truly excited! I was the minority (haha.. or that one lone person) who wanted to hear No Boundaries but not because the song is good or anything, but more for sentimental reasons. does this mean something is already ready for tonight?

I’m thinking that they might have known this might happen before the tour actually happened but they wanted to wait and see the reaction from the crowd to confirm that it is a no go for NoBo and he already had another song in mind.

  313. Edited: This is the second @AnoopDoggDesai twit re: Kris set, and another below one my comment. So, it’s redundant. Nevertheless, I’m so happy!

  314. AnoopDoggDesai
i’m sure y’all have heard that kris has a new song in his set. just heard him sound check it, and it’s amazing! sacramento is in for a treat

    So exciting.

  315. Why do I feel happy? It’s as if it’s a vindication, then a revalidation that god answers prayers.

  316. Yay!! For Anoop’s tweet. So cool that he gets to debut tonight. How exciting. Maybe I need to start following the idols other than Kradison after all.

@Kirsten, I’m so sorry if I haven’t said it properly before, but: LOVE. YOU!!

  317. I wonder what all the peeps in the audience from here on out are going to make of this, since only a very small minority keeps up with news online. It’s so unprecedented that it almost seems like a word of explanation from Kris would be in order, but I think that’s highly unlikely.

AnoopDoggDesaii’m sure y’all have heard that kris has a new song in his set. just heard him sound check it, and it’s amazing! sacramento is in for a treatless than 20 seconds ago from web

Good. Now the Kris Allen clock timers can CHILLAX.

  319. AnoopDoggDesaii’m sure y’all have heard that kris has a new song in his set. just heard him sound check it, and it’s amazing! sacramento is in for a treat

Guess the new song is ready. I wonder if it is a new single that he has been working on. I remember that Clay and Ruben tried out their new singles on tour.

  320. Yay for No NoBo AND new Kris song! I hope it’s Falling Slowly. Dig his version of that. and sigh…such a pretty song.

  321. well, they took away his single, why not replace it with a new single? That would be cool, but who knows.

  322. snuffles- what? my timer is ready to go! haha.. j/k

okay, now I’m calm that I get to see the new song this weekend! you know what that also means? new youtube videos!!! isn’t that what we all want? hehe

  323. I just thought of something while reading the comment about Adam and Kris’ friendship ‘” if anyone stood up to the producers about NB, it probably would have been Adam. I remember reading that during the show he was the one who went to the producers about lip-synching performances on the show. He seems to be the one who is most comfortable standing up TPTB.

Hey, that was my thought too after I read about this news. Or at the very minimum, Adam would have encouraged Kris to put up a fight. Yay for Kris and I think, extrapolating, for all the other idols since they seem to be getting more control over what they sing.

  324. I may be an Adam fan, but I am also a fan of Kris. I am glad that he does not have to sing No Boundaries! While he sounds wonderful singing it, it will do a number on his vocal cords as it is so wordy. My gosh, he hardly has time to take a breath to get all the words in, and the arrangement on top of that would be enough to wear out anyone’s voice!
I personally don’t want to see him perform anything else from the season. I think i would love to see him come up with something that we haven’t heard yet. And I think that is what his intentions would be, too. Something he feels excited and confident to bring to the show, maybe a better representation of the music he is putting out on his upcoming album.
Either way, I am happy for the change. He is the American Idol and his set should include songs he feel connected to. He deserves that :)

  325. I don’t know, but I doubt the song was written with anyone from this season in mind. I just think it was something that was sitting around and was dusted off when they were looking for a song. “Kara, we need a song. Have any in your trunk?”

  326. well, they took away his single, why not replace it with a new single? That would be cool, but who knows.

That would be cool, but I think it’s a bit early for him to have a song ready to go.

And hey, show will start soon, are there any Twitters that we know of going? Any peeps here that are?

  327. YEP. And a little birdie tells me this has been in the works for a few days. So save those tweets, peeps.

LOL You forgot “Caw, caw” MJ. ;-)

Good news about the new song. Fun and fantastic, I predict! Go Kris! (You too Adam. :-))

I do find it curious that we have a change only 3 concerts into the tour… Maybe it was to spare Kara the bad news. Or maybe they were just sure that our Canadian neighbors would adore NoBo even when Americans (and their typical bad taste) would not. Heh.

  328. 356 will Jul 10th, 2009 at 8:24 pm

I wonder what all the peeps in the audience from here on out are going to make of this, since only a very small minority keeps up with news online. It’s so unprecedented that it almost seems like a word of explanation from Kris would be in order, but I think that’s highly unlikely.

Most probably won’t even know it’s missing, they most likely didn’t know the set list to begin with.

I know when I went in S5 I was not aware of the fandoms/blogs and had no clue what people were going to sing. So the few who were expecting NB may be pleasantly surprised or bummed out, but I suspect most won’t even notice.

  329. I think Kris has a surprise Sacramento tonight with a new song. I feel very let down when people say things like he’s losing his voice, and my God, it’s bad when you red some of the comments under the LA Times article. Why are people so bitter about Kris winning Idol? Adam doesn’t even care, and Kris really worked very hard during the competition to get to where he is now. This is not fair to him at all. I’ve never seen this kind of hatred before , for God’s sake they don’t even know him.Uugh!

  330. I just think it was something that was sitting around and was dusted off when they were looking for a song. ‘Kara, we need a song. Have any in your trunk?’

You might be on to something. I suspect that this all occured a few minutes after all the rumours of Kara getting fired were circulating and Paula/Simon were high-fiving behind her back. Kara figured if she was going to get the boot, why not go out in style? So she dug around the very bottom of her trunk for this one. Kind of like the people who leave flaming bags of dog poo on their bosses doorsteps or photocopy their butts when they get fired.

  331. Wow power to the people. Maybe we can get them to:
    1) change up Adam’s Bowie medley too. There are so many other Bowie songs that I would like to hear instead.
    2) Have Allison sing Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just want to have Fun.
    3) Separate the two Rascal Flatt songs in Danny’s set.
    4) Get Anoop to get rid of those Glasses.
    5) Change Matt’s Fray song to something he wrote.
    6) Have Adam and Kris do a full version of the duet “I Will Remember You”(would really love this)

  332. Since Kris is minus a song for a couple of nights’ ¦lets make all of the idols drop a song until Kris picks up a new one.

Oh sure! Let’s piss off ALL the fans!

I agree he needs to replace it with something up tempo. I love Falling Slowly but I think it is too slow for the concert. Some Michael Jackson would be great.

So far I’m not a Kings of Leon fan. I don’t quite get the attraction. I’m willing to give it a try though and would love to see a Kris take on one of their songs. I would prefer to hear a new cover too – let him choose whatever he wants. I doubt that they have even picked his first single yet. I think that pick really only happens once the whole album has been recorded. Since they end up recording way more songs than they actually use, I doubt they can tell what is the first single yet.

I think we should all be looking out for Kris’ voice. If he needs to cut back on a song for a night or two we should let him without complaining while they find a great replacement.

  333. I think one of the reasons why David Cook had to sing ToML, without relief, is because Reggie Hamm won a songwriting contest. What is the point of entering a songwriting contest if your song is unceremoniously dumped by the singer who won AI after only three tour dates!? Not much of a prize. So, Kris should be thanking his lucky stars that NB was not submitted by an actual contest winner. (However, I can’t imagine the American public picking this song, so clearly average AI watching Americans are better at selecting songs than Kara and Co. are at writing them.)

That being said ToML is not a bad song at all. It’s just a bit “cheesy” and not David Cook’s style. It’s David Archuleta’s style. But, luckily for Hamm, DA did not win — and that’s not a slam at Archie. That’s just the recognition that DC made that song a “grown up,” more “manly” song with his growls, world-weariness, and sexiness so that ToML actually could succeed and become a platinum seller. DA would have put his more earnest, younger spin on it and I don’t think it would’ve been as successful. I absolutely love Archie and this is not a slam. Just a recognition that DC can take cheese and make it somewhat edgey while Archie can successfully take cheese and perform it straight.

  334. Maybe they wanted to wait until Kara was away on her honeymoon to toss NoBo! She’ll be in newlywed bliss, she won’t even care that everyone hated her song so much they took it out! lol

  335. So the few who were expecting NB may be pleasantly surprised or bummed out, but I suspect most won’t even notice.

I would assume that most people who are interested enough in AI to shell out money for the tour would be expecting the winner to sing the coronation song. It’s such an ingrained tradition at this point.

  336. With Kris already having another song ready to go tonight, I’m wondering if the producers had something planned “just in case” for awhile. They might have thought, we’ll see how the first one or two shows go and watch the response” before making the change for sure.

With the level of all the musicians involved (including Kris), it probably wouldn’t take more than a few days to work out a new song — especially if it was one that Kris already knew. The biggest issues to deal with are arrangement, movement, lighting cues and backgrounds for the big screen.

I am really looking forward to what Kris sings tonight! And then of course there will be more Adam videos to drool over….

  337. Anoop just tweeted that Kris will debut his new song tonight. I guess we’ll find out at Rickey’s cell cast!!!

  338. Anoop just tweeted that Kris will debut his new song tonight. I guess we’ll find out at Rickey’s cell cast!!!

And a huge sigh of relief from all AI fans around the world. :clap_tb:

  339. lizardino, mj already posted upthread, that the change had been in the works for several days.

I am assuming they decided to make the change right after first night critics all thought No Boundaries was a drag on Kris’ set.

  340. Glad to hear that Kris has been liberated from “No Boundaries To The Suckitude.” But it means Kris is going to have to wait for the chance to become a “platinum selling artist.” I’m disappointed for him that his first single is such a dud. I didn’t like “Time of My Life” at first, but I became inordinately fond of it as it climbed toward and reached platinum status. It still gets airplay.

Next year can we go back to the songwriting contest? Because “Time of My Now Inside Your Hoo-Ha” still beats “No Boundaries To The Suckitude.”

  341. Why am I not surprised that Kris has the new song are rehearsed and ready to go for tonight’s show. It’s clear that dumping “NoBo” had been discussed for awhile. Whether Kris finally got fed up and went to TPTB, the producers realized that the song was a set killer or a little of both, it was very smart that they were ready with another song. Now no one can complain about him only doing 4 songs!

Anoop’s tweet makes me even more excited then I would be. I love Kris, so I would be thrilled hearing anything other than “NoBo”. But now I’m pretty convinced this is going to be a freakin’ great song choice that will go over really well (fingers, toes and eyes crossed!). Now I’m DEFINITELY listening to the cell cast (only 6 days until I get to see the show live!…tickticktick…)

  342. Now I know why I streamed the Bright Lights video so many times in the last two days. It is so I can stream the new song a thousand times tomorrow.
    :-)

  343. As much as I like “Mad World”, does Adam get to ditch this and sing something new?

  344. well, they took away his single, why not replace it with a new single? That would be cool, but who knows.

Stay tuned….but sagi is on the right track for the concert. His new tour song is gonna Kill, in a good way.

  345. I don’t know, will, I am, like many others on this site, a newbie. This is the first time I even realized there was an AI concert, much less plotted my attack to attend a second (or third) show, if I can work it. And prior to this, I’ve considered myself somewhat versed in pop culture. I enjoyed AI in small doses before, but never got completely sucked in as I did this year (courtesy of Adam Lambert and Co).

Many of us who knew nothing of the AI workings last year have become seasoned “experts” (thanks MJ’s!) this year.

I’m shelling out money for the tour (and if I end up going to SD next Saturday) I’ll rack up even more …

  346. will Jul 10th, 2009 at 8:43 pm

So the few who were expecting NB may be pleasantly surprised or bummed out, but I suspect most won’t even notice.

I would assume that most people who are interested enough in AI to shell out money for the tour would be expecting the winner to sing the coronation song. It’s such an ingrained tradition at this point.

    I guess, but honestly I don’t even remember Taylor’s.

  347. We’d take away his pants too, but we are afraid that some of the Adam fans might like that (plus, we no longer need that as a distraction during NoBo).

You can have it all. You can’t take his voice though.

  348. Does Anoop really wear glasses? Was he wearing contacts on the show? Does anyone know?

He has worn glasses in the past but got contacts in college. He was wearing contacts on the show.

  349. I am ever so glad that Kris lost that craptastic song, and I am sure that it will help the overall feel of his set. However, I think that it will do very little for the overall feel of the concert. Going from something SO high energy to a guy with a guitar is never a good thing and I can’t figure out how you can get around that. I think that overall the reviews are going to stay much the same with the exception of a couple of states.

  350. As much as I like ‘Mad World’ , does Adam get to ditch this and sing something new?

NO, no, no – I know people are tired of it, but I really want to see him sing it live just once. He can ditch after August 18th.

  351. LOL Reading some of these comments one would think Kris is this little defenseless person who can’t stand up for himself and has to be saved by hero and king Adam who obviously gets anything he wants!!
For all we know it could have been Megan who used her charm to get TPTB to make this decision.

Good thing he’s playing the new one tonight already. It makes more sense.

Maybe they could do a MJ song here, tribute stuff on the big screen’ ¦.then Adam exits stage left and Kris starts his solo set.

ETA-in addition to the duet, give Kris another solo so Adam doesn’t have more.

    HELL NO!!!!!!!!

  353. Calm down squirrely. I hear that it’s beautiful live. I would not want you to be deprived.

  354. I am not the biggest Kris Allen fan, But I have to admit to feeling very Happy for him that he no longer has to be saddled with that song. I may even enjoy his set more for the lack of it…

  355. hwc Jul 10th, 2009 at 5:37 pm

Wow, an American Idol who can’t even sing his own first single on the Idol tour. Hard to know what to say about that.

But that’s the point. It’s not the winners single it’s AI’s single. Always has been. The is ground breaking news here! TPTB are learning! WooHoo!!!

I’m so very curious to see how the coronation song is handled in the future.

ETA: Hey didn’t everyone see Rushfield’s tweet that said he didn’t the song would be from the show? Since he broke the news, I’m hoping he has some inside info. here. We’ll see!

  356. Someone named @joshskinner on twitter is claiming that Kris is doing a song by The Killers as his new number

#American Idol winner Kris Allen will no longer sing the awful single “No Boundaries” on tour. It’s been replaced by a song from the killers#11 minutes ago from TwitterFon

oooh..I love some of The Killers’ stuff!

  357. In case anyone is interested. Got this from IDF, they were asked who they are best friends with in the tour book.

Adam: Kris, Allison, Lil Rounds, Matt
    Kris: Adam
    Allison: Jasmine, Adam
    Danny: Michael
    Matt: Alexis
Lil Rounds: Adam, Danny, Anoop, Kris, Alexis
    Anoop: Rickey
Scott: Alexis, Jasmine, Kristen, Kendall, Nate, Kris, Michael, Allison, Adam, Anoop, Matt
    Megan: Jesse
    Michael: Danny

  358. Squirrely, I didn’t know you were going to Boston show, too! Feel the Adam love!

I wish he was singing BTBW ior RoF (really wish RoF) nstead of MW, but oh, well…I am sure it is amazing live but with Muse, I wish something a little different (that’s why FG would be cool, tho maybe not with him dressed like that ;-)).

  359. Not sure about Kris doing a Killers song. Hmmm. Well I think it will rock out and for that, be a good addition to his set for that reason alone.

  360. I am happy for all the future concert goers this season. Congratulations. A victory for the little people.

That remains to be seen! Go tell WALMART who just bought umteen cd’s of AI 2009 with “NB” prominent as the coronation song – tell them their support of the idols was misplaced cause noone wants to sing NB!

Also, I love Kris Allen to death but I hope they also pull him from singing solo in “Dont Stop Believin” – cause it really wrecks the song!

  361. Why am I not surprised that Kris has the new song are rehearsed and ready to go for tonight’s show. It’s clear that dumping ‘NoBo’ had been discussed for awhile.

The redemption of Brian Mansfield? Apparently good things do come out of bad reviews! ;)

The Killers? So not Kris’ sound, so it will be interesting to see how he Kris Allenizes it…

  362. If that tweet is true, I wonder what The Killers song Kris will do? Maybe “Mr. Brightside” or “Somebody Told Me”? He wouldn’t do their current hits (“Human” or “Spaceman”) would he?

  363. Please don’t let it be “Man in the mirror”. I know that this is one of Kris” favorite songs. Maybe this will be a way to do a Michael Jackson tibute, but I think Kris has a whole lot more to offer than this.

  364. The Killers! When You Were Young or Read My Mind, I’m thinking…

  365. Kris should do Jason Mraz I’m Yours…it’s fun and upbeat. I know he’ll do a great job.

  366. Stay tuned….but sagi is on the right track for the concert. His new tour song is gonna Kill, in a good way.

Is “Kill” the operative word here? :).

ETA: I heard the Killers was a possibility…so it could be true.

  367. Squirrely, I didn’t know you were going to Boston show, too! Feel the Adam love!

I am and I’m dragging my sister with me – I can’t wait. I was bummed that I had to wait until August, but now I’m glad because by the time it comes to us all the bugs will be worked out and it will be perfection….or they’ll be burned out and we get phoned in performances ;p

    readon Jul 10th, 2009 at 9:03 pm

Calm down squirrely. I hear that it’s beautiful live. I would not want you to be deprived.

    LOL- okay, I’m calm

  368. Also, I love Kris Allen to death but I hope they also pull him from singing solo in ‘Dont Stop Believin’ – cause it really wrecks the song!

That song starts off wretched, with what feels like a 5 minute out of tune solo by Scott. When it’s Kris’s turn, he’s like a breath of fresh air (an in-tune breath of fresh air).

My only problem with Don’t Stop Believin is it seems like the crappier singers get the longer parts. I haven’t seen it live though. And, there’s way too much Scott for me to watch anymore videos of it. So, I suppose I could be wrong. But, I think Kris’s part sounds great.

  369. I find it kind of funny that noone names Scott as a best friend yet he practically names the whole list including 3 of the top 10 as his bfs.

  370. I find it kind of funny that noone names Scott as a best friend yet he practically names the whole list including 3 of the top 10 as his bfs.

Probably because he’s completely effing annoying.

  371. I think Scott’s best friend is his brother…but he can’t put that as his answer

  372. The Killers is good – if this is true Kris set will be very high energy.

  373. Yeah, love the killers. Think Kris will do great. I also think he sounds good on DSB.

  374. Yeah, it’s hard to sit quietly through any song by The Killers…I’m listening to some of their stuff now on my Ipod and bopping crazily around my apartment

  375. I wonder if Kris plans on stripping it down some, or keep it a high energy Killers song.

  376. The problem is that even Kris’s best performances were not really “showstoppers.” Jamie Foxx put it well: that Kris’s performances were so subtle that they would blow you away “and you won’t even know it.” He meant it as high praise, and it IS high praise. I appreciated Kris’s best performances, and admire him as a person. But he’s not a showstopper. The only possible exception to this was “Heartless” because it was completely frakking original.

Having said all that, if they are going to take something that Kris did on the show, I think it should be She Works Hard For The Money. It was a fresh take on a well-known song, and it’s upbeat. Falling Slowly is lovely, but it’s too mellow if they are trying to spice up his set.

Why do people want Adam to stop singing Mad World? I love that song? Is it that they want more Batshit Crazy Adam? Because Mad World never stops being gorgeous to me. (Disclosure: I happen to love Batshit Crazy Adam.)

  377. But that’s the point. It’s not the winners single it’s AI’s single. Always has been. The is ground breaking news here! TPTB are learning! WooHoo!!!

I honestly don’t know how tptb can work this out, but if they are going to have a coronation song, then it needs to fit the winner’s style and voice. I was thinking about this during the finale, it was a disservice to both Kris and Adam to make them be judged on a song that didn’t fit either of them, and worse of all, refuse to let them tailor the song to their voices. It just made no sense.

  378. Well, whatever the new song is, Kris doesn’t appear too nervous. Check out his latest tweet (the photo!! ROFLMAO!!!)

#Anoop stole this creepy lion. I don’t think I would want to play bball with this particular lion http://twitpic.com/9yb6f#6 minutes ago from TwitterFon

  379. The Killers? So not Kris’ sound, so it will be interesting to see how he Kris Allenizes it’ ¦

I thought that too. In fact, I used to imagine Adam fronting a band like The Killers. It must be the guyliner thing. But hey, I luuuuuurve the Killers. I hope Kris works wonders with it like he did with Heartless. Woohoo, less than 2 days to go!

  380. I love Marty Casey – and that is a great very Kris like version.

  381. No Boundaries was a piece of crap from the word GO! but this still surprises me.

I guess Kara is going to be out after one year, otherwise I don’t think they’d crap on her like this.

  382. In only cellcasting for the top 4 so has the concert started already for those listening?

  383. If he is doing the Killers he should do “Read my mind” He would do a great job.

  384. Concert just started…Sarver’s on now…another poor sound quality for the cell cast

  385. About NB:

    Kris’s first single.

Wasn’t NB the first single of both Kris and Adam?
    Everybody seems to forget that.

  386. Nope..it’s the Winner’s single, advertised as that on Itunes. They just released ADam’s version of it. Adam didn’t get to perform it on any promotional appearances or in public after top 2 night. So, really Kris’s single only.

  387. Wasn’t NB the first single of both Kris and Adam?
    Everybody seems to forget that

Yes, they both recorded it and both were released to ITUNES, but Kris’s version was promoted and Adam’s wasn’t. In fact I didn’t even know Adam had a version until a couple of days after the finale. Kris also sang the song on various talk shows and Adam did not. It really is considered Kris’s single because it was promoted as HIS single.

  388. Adam’s version was released, and it charted, it was played on radio, etc. How is that not Adam’s first single? If not, what is it?

Just because it wasn’t promoted? What it it went to number one? Guess I don’t get those explanations, you guys.

They must have expected it to sell, or they wouldn’t have released it.

Sorry, I’m having some trouble editing my posts tonight. So I’m trying to keep it short. Not trying to sound abrupt. :)

  389. Adam’s version was released, and it charted, it was played on radio, etc. How is that not Adam’s first single? If not, what is it?

ust because it wasn’t promoted? What it it went to number one? Guess I don’t get those explanations, you guys.

Yeah I don’t get that either sometimes but it was not his official single. If you see on Wikipedia on any artist who has albums they list their official singles and then the have charted songs not official released as a single.

So Adam’s No boundaries is a charted song but not an official single. Hope that explains it in some way

HaHa…I’m a Kris fan and it doesn’t bother me in the least that Adam gets one more song for a few days!!!! Ears across America are thanking whomever made that decision. I wonder what excuse will be made? Kris has always claimed diplomatically that it was a nice song with a good message, so off camera he must’ve LOATHED it!

  391. Adam’s version was released, and it charted, it was played on radio, etc. How is that not Adam’s first single? If not, what is it?

Just because it wasn’t promoted? What if it went to number one? Guess I don’t get those explanations, you guys.

Who knows, maybe if it was promoted it would have done better? My point is that AI didn’t treat it like Adam’s first single. NO promotion, no singing it on tv shows, and no banner on ITUNES adverstising it.

I’m not sure what your point is? Is it that Kris’s version is superior because it sold more? If that is the case, then you have to take into account that Adam’s version had zero, and I mean zero, promotion. I guess I am unsure of what your point is and therefore do not know how to respond.

  392. Thanks, dhunken, that explains it pretty well.

I’m not sure what your point is? Is it that Kris’s version is superior because it sold more? If that is the case, then you have to take into account that Adam’s version had zero, and I mean zero, promotion. I guess I am unsure of what your point is and therefore do not know how to respond.

No, that wasn’t my point. I don’t think I had a point. I just thought since we were talking about NB, I’d remind people there were two versions.
    *shrugs*

Well, maybe I was thinking: it’s less of a “winner’s single” than usual, somehow, since the winner wasn’t the only one who had a version released. So I don’t think it’s as strictly identified with him as the usual winner’s single is. How’s that? Maybe that was my point.

So if he doesn’t sing it any more, maybe nobody will care. Since it never really was identified with him very much.

  393. Why is everyone saying Kris has one less song? I thought MJ said he had a new one. Usually, I read through the comments, but I got home late so I hope someone will fill me in. It doesn’t make sense to me that Kris would have only 4. I’m sure he knows others very well that he could substitute in place of NB.

And I am also one that that NB has grown on. Oh well…

  394. Well, maybe I was thinking: it’s less of a ‘winner’s single’ than usual, somehow, since the winner wasn’t the only one who had a version released. So I don’t think it’s as strictly identified with him as the usual winner’s single is. How’s that?

Ok, that clears it up. Maybe TPTB knew it was such a lemon that they needed as many versions as possible out there to sell it? Who knows? The good news is Kris is free of it.

  395. Undercooked
I think Ross was responding to my comment that when it comes down to a footnote which everything does “Kris Allen’s first single may be noted as a BOMB!

It would seem that some Idol fans want the win and the goodies but choose to dump what they dont like onto the runner-up and call it Adam’s first single even tho it wasn’t promoted! LOL

  396. Who knows, maybe if it was promoted it would have done better? My point is that AI didn’t treat it like Adam’s first single. NO promotion, no singing it on tv shows, and no banner on ITUNES adverstising it.

I would love to know how it would have done if it was promoted. I still don’t think it was as bad as peeps make it out to be.

  397. Maybe the point is that the failure of the song belongs to both Adam and Kris? I thought that was the point.

  398. I liked Adam’s NB. But when I heard Kris’ on the radio the other day, I thought it was good.

Maybe this is a song that is hard to sing live. I thought Adam seemed nervous when he sang this on t.v., and it’s really the studio version I like. When I heard Kris’ studio version on the radio, I liked it too.

If Kris sings a song he enjoys more and it is one that the audience enjoys more, it is a win win for everyone. I’m sure Adam fans would rather hear Adam sing anything other than NB and so would Kris’ fans.

I’m glad Kris will get to sing songs that suit him. That’s only fair for everyone.

  399. Sunsurger

    Undercooked
I think Ross was responding to my comment that when it comes down to a footnote which everything does ‘Kris Allen’s first single may be noted as a BOMB!

It would seem that some Idol fans want the win and the goodies but choose to dump what they dont like onto the runner-up and call it Adam’s first single even tho it wasn’t promoted! LOL

Hey Sunsurger, I must have come in the middle of a conversation. Yes, you can’t really compare the two versions of NB as they weren’t treated the same. It seems like the competition never ends….LOL!

  400. sunsurger I wasn’t responding to your post. I haven’t even read your post. Please don’t put words in my mouth. undercooked, you didn’t come in in the middle of anything. I have no idea what sunsurger is talking about.

Back on topic, I’m just glad the song has been dropped. You know, the song has only been dropped from the concert. It’s still on the CD, it’s still on the radio, still at around #20 on the Neilsens for AC radio play.

I am so glad it’s out of the concert. I’m glad they’re not standing on ceremony. I can’t wait to hear Kris’s new number.

  401. Maybe the point is that the failure of the song belongs to both Adam and Kris? I thought that was the point

How is that possible when Adam never had the chance to promote it? AI never promoted Adam’s version either? Adam only sang the song once live, in the final two competition.

  402. Adam’s version of No Boundaries greeted me on my Amazon.com homepage, everytime I went to the site for over a month. Kris’ never did.

Adam’s version of No Boundaries was on my iTunes homepage, in the ‘what we’re listening to block, for over a month.

So, yes indeed, Adam’s version of No Boundaries was promoted.

The first time that the idol judges trashed No Boundaries, was before Kris even got to sing it for the first time.

  403. Personally, I don’t look to wikipedia when i need to do research, but selling 270,000 copies of a single probably shouldn’t be considered as bombing. The song sucked, but the fact that it did as well as it did is a testament to people liking Kris.

  404. Vada, when did Adam promote it on t.v. shows?

I don’t go to Amazon except during the holidays, so I didn’t see it. I also don’t always look at the “What We’re Listening to” block on Itunes.

I don’t think anyone is blaming Kris for the failure of NoBo at all. I don’t even think David Cook could have sold this one. It was just a bad song.

I need to go back through the thread as I think I am missing something. I don’t even count No Bo as a Kris song because it is not something he chose for himself. Not sure why this is such a big deal. But I don’t think you can say Adam and Kris’s versions had the some promotion. That just isn’t true.

  405. So, yes indeed, Adam’s version of No Boundaries was promoted

Disagree – Adam promoted Mad World, not NB. If it was his single he would have been singing it on the talk show circuit.

ETA: And I agree Kris selling 270,000 is impressive being that so many people disliked it.

  406. undercooked, I never said anything about TV. I never said both versions had the same promotion. Adam’s version didn’t get a full promotion push, but it did get some promo, as in the placements on itunes and amazon.com. Those are not free placements.

Technically, NoBo is not a failure. Making the top 20 on AC, and the number of downloads sold, qualifies it as a hit. It isn’t a smash, but it is not a failure, either.

  407. Technically, NoBo is not a failure. Making the top 20 on AC, and the number of downloads sold, qualifies it as a hit. It isn’t a smash, but it is not a failure, either

You are correct, it isn’t a failure, it’s just not TOML. I probably shouldn’t have used the word “failure.” I was responding to CindyM who said Adam shared in the “failure” of NB.

  408. Here is a fact both Kris’s Heartless and Adam’s Mad World had outsold either of the version of No Boundaries. My feeling the failure lies in the writing of the song which neither Adam nor Kris was part of and both did what they could with it. Kris’s version got a lot more promotion. True, I personally like Adam’s version better as it had more of a melody. Which is not saying much. Just my preference.

The important thing right now is neither of them have to sing it anymore for the rest of the tour. Hey We all Win. :drunk_tb:

Oh and finally I am reserving myself now to not compare sales of Adam’s or Kris’s sales to past Idols or past Artist(2 or more years ago) as the market and configuration of the whole industry is so different now. Anyone who can sell 500,000 copies or more is a huge success as far as today’s standards go.

  409. I agree, I was responding to another post. I don’t think the song is a failure for either of them, it’s just not a great song. I don’t think it’s the most horrible song in the world, I kinda had a sentimental liking of it.

  410. I kind of wish Adam would replace one of his songs, too. I’m not crazy about Starlight & would prefer he sing something he sang on the show. I can’t think of the title right now, but I think it would do much better. Starlight kind of leaves me flat & I am an avid Adam fan!

  411. Was it “A Change Is Gonna Come” (Sam Cooke)?

Note to Idol – hire good song writers not affiliated with American Idol at all…

Now there you go! I am happy Kris doesn’t have to sing that drivel any more!

  412. Grammie Kari – “A Change is Gonna Come” was picked by Simon Fuller. I guess it depends on which Simon mysuse is thinking of!

  413. You lnow what is really disheartening to this Kris Allen fan who did not have access to a computer for several days while on vacation in the northlands is that I finally get to open a page that says Kris Allen in the title and the first ten posts I read are about Adam Lambert. The honest to goodness truth in my estimation is that No Boundaries was a wreck of a song for both singers. Adam’s version was not one bit better than Kris’s and as a matter of fact I only listened to it once plus the time he caterwalled through it on the final performance night and decided it was absolutely not in his wheelhouse. It was not an Adam song. I bought Kris’s version, more because I am a Kris fan than because the song was good. But it is a horrible song to sing live for either of them and only Kris was stuck with that job. Do I prefer Kris’s version? You bet. It isn’t a theatrical song or a rock anthem. It is a song from the heart and that is what Kris does better than anyone including Mr. Lambert. Sales have to do with loyalty to the singer as much as good music when it comes to the coronation song. Adam’s version should never have been released at all. He didn’t win, why did he release a coronation song? Lambert’s version certainly should not have appeared on the compilation CD from season 8. It was an insult to Kris and to his fans that they included it. I am sure it was to make a few more bucks in royalties for Kara, but it was not the right thing to do for the winner of the competition. I’m glad Kris will get to sing something else, not because he can’t do No Boundaries well, but because it isn’t a song that people have embraced like they did rainbows after season 7.

  414. totally agreed sharig…and the excitement i had for kris doing a killers song totally spoiled by the whole fanwar going on in the other thread

that said, i’m soooo happy kris picked out a killer killers song and it only defines his album and music style even more..

cant wait for his first single :jittery_tb:

  415. I kind of wish Adam would replace one of his songs, too. I’m not crazy about Starlight & would prefer he sing something he sang on the show. I can’t think of the title right now, but I think it would do much better. Starlight kind of leaves me flat & I am an avid Adam fan!

    Oh dear God, no!
    Starlight is fabulous!!!!!

  416. Itunes and Amazon are User oriented. If you buy Adam songs the next time you open up it will highlight ALL of the available stuff from Adam, crap or otherwise. This isn’t national advertising, this is very user specific. So, really only those that buy Adam stuff and AI stuff would see the banners.

It’s just like Ads….mine are pretty much geared to everything Phoenix. Once your computer address is out there and you have indicated a home address on anything it recognizes you. Big Brother is watching all the time!

  417. Is this the first time in AI history that a ‘winner’ doesn’t even have the vocal chops to sing his own coronation song?? Taylor Hicks is lookin pretty good now – at least he could sing the coronation song !! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

  418. Except I have no recollection of the coronation song that Mr. Hicks had to sing. No recollection whatsoever and I was rooting for Hicks once again because Simon was just being so nasty to him.

In other words, it seems most coronation songs fade into oblivion and are for the most part irrelevant. TOML stands out because I believe it was the most successful one and even then David Cook did not hide his disdain for the song.

  419. I

kind of wish Adam would replace one of his songs, too.

Love Starlight. It was wonderful live last night. No replacements needed in my opinion.
