Update:   I’ve posted the entire set of Videos, in order of how they were performed. Plus, Joanna S., the mom of the little girls who gave   hand-made drawings to Kris last night speaks HERE and HERE. girlygirl’s recap HERE.

Kris Allen and Cale Mills played the BB King’s Blues Club in the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas Friday night. It was his second gig there in a week–last Friday he had the whole band with him. This time is was just him and his guitarist Cale performing an acoustic set.

According to @Krinja_Signal on twitter, the set list included: “Heartless/GP”, “Before We Come Undone”, “Man in the Mirror”, “Is It Over”, “Chasing Pavements”, “Falling Slowly/With or Without You”, “Alright With Me”, “Live Like We’re Dying” and “Yesterday”.

  1. He’s kinda beginning to look like Wolverine or something.

Wish I were Magneto so I could pull him closer to me and have him sing to me and a few friends and family maybe.

Falling Slowly is so pretty when he does it acoustic. He probably shouldn’t do much to the melody, that’s my only gripe with this one. But I’m not complaining too much, it’s still very nicely done. So beautiful….. sigh.

Who sings With or Without You? Is that the U2 song? I don’t listen to them much, I just Wikipedia’d it.

  2. I’m liking scruffy Kris – defines that beautiful jawline so nicely! And Cale and Kris together – just so yummy on so many levels. I love Falling Slowly and I really love it with WOWY. Just yes.

Yep jammasta, With or Without You is U2. And I wish I was Magneto too!

  3. I love this mashup! It is awesome. I can’t wait to see more video’s today. I love the fact that we have had so many new Kris video’s the last couple of weeks.

MellowdeeLee on twitter just posted the Yesterday video. Wow! This was awesome too!

mellowdeeLEE Not the best quality, but @KrisAllen covering The Beatles ‘Yesterday’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGD2aJMXTlI

  4. Nice job, Kris!

Anyone know why his set is more covers than originals? Seems odd, and a missed opportunity, for an artist with new music and an album to sell.

  5. I like the covers. reminds me why I voted for him so many times. He’s also playing in a lounge, so those songs are more appropriate. He’s gotta be sick of LLWD and with no band would sound too silly. I’ve been watching AI rewind this week and remember how Kris progressively won my son and I over. Slow and steady, every week doing something more unique. I wish his album were doing better but I think in time Kris will again slowly win over America

  6. Well he did sing 4 off his album. And I don’t mind some covers. So far all are so awesome. And the crowd loved him.

  7. I love when Kris does covers (I also like when he performs his own music too)! I can’t wait to see the Chasing Pavements video from last nights concert.

I think Kris is doing a nice job of mixing both covers and originals in his performances. Since Kris is a newer musician, the covers allow the listener to connect Kris with something that is familiar to them but in Kris’s style. The originals expose people to the songs on his album and make them want to check it out. This seems to work for other musician’s like David C. & Kelly so I think Kris will be fine. Also, it will allow Kris to change things up at every performance so they don’t get stale for the people who go to multiple concerts. One last thought.. Kris did win AI by singing covers and making them his own every week, so I think this is a talent that he should continue. I love that he is still bringing the surprise factor to every concert. This is one Kris fan that can’t wait to see what awesome cover he will make his own next time.

  8. Yeah I so agree jmom376. I hope he comes somewhere close to New York when he does his concert. My husband says if it’s not supper far he’ll take me. I wish I lived closer to New York City. We live in Calcium. My husband is in the military, so we live in really close to the military base here. He would like to also go see Allison when she’s in Concert. He really loves those two. And he isn’t much of in Idol fan so I think thats so neat that he would like to see them. He does like some of Adam’s songs to. But haven’t been able to get him to want to go to the concert for Adam yet. But working him over. Because I would so like to see Adam to when he tours.

  9. The originals expose people to the songs on his album and make them want to check it out. This seems to work for other musician’s like David C. & Kelly so I think Kris will be fine.

Oh yeah, totally. I’m not criticizing the use of covers generally, just wondering about his motivation to perform more covers than originals. All the thoughts offered do make sense, particularly the venue and the need to pepper in new music among the familiar rather than vice versa as Cook and Clarkson do. If this gig were one where folks are drawn to BB King’s, the venue, rather than to Kris Allen, the musician, I understand better what he’s thinking. I suspect the set would include much more original music if this were viewed as a “Kris Allen concert” rather than BB King’s featuring Kris Allen. :-)

Sorry for the detour, just wondering stuff without enough caffeine in me this a.m….

  10. Okay, to correct myself, he apparently DID song LLWD acoustic. Well, to quote Randy Jackson, he could sing the phone book and I would love it…

  11. I’m about to get on the shuttle to the airport, so I’ll write more when I get home. Kris was fantastic last night. Sounded absolutely fantastic. People were sitting on the floor right in front of the stage and he was very engaging, even bringing 4 girls on stage to sing backup for AWM.

After the set, we ran into Cale in the casino and talked to him fopr 45 minutes. What a great gut

  12. Anyone know why his set is more covers than originals? Seems odd, and a missed opportunity, for an artist with new music and an album to sell.

The audience seems to like Kris’s covers. I know I do. I actually think Kris is proving himself to be quite a great live entertainer. Part of that is his ability to get inside a familiar song and somehow bring out new things musically and emotionally. And another part of it is to present his new songs to the audience. I think this is the package people can expect from Kris as an exciting live performer.

And when you’re performing onstage, that’s your job. To be a good performer. To be interesting and surprising, also familiar and inviting.
I think Kris just understands this, pretty well.

Also from a practical standpoint alone, not all the album songs will lend themselves to solo acoustic arrangements, though he seems very good at rearranging them. Still, it takes time to do that, and he’s been a very busy guy.

  13. I can’t wait to hear from girlygirl and others who were there. I want a full report.

I think Kris is very smart mixing in his take on well known songs with material from his album. It establishes a connection and emotional bond with the audience that will help to make them want to check out his original work more. There are also songs on his album that really need the full band for best effect, in my opinion.

My only complaint is that he forgot the line ‘I said something wrong’ in ‘Yesterday’. I’m good with mash-ups and creative license but don’t screw up one of the most important lines of one of my fave songs. Cales’s quiet laugh on that was priceless though, so it’s all good.

  14. LOL, girlygirl!

After the set, we ran into Cale in the casino and talked to him fopr 45 minutes. What a great gut

Didn’t anyone tell you that you should look into a person’s eyes when you are talking to them?

  15. Yeah girlgirl can’t wait for the whole report. I am so excited to hear all about it from you. And oh so jealous.

  16. After the set, we ran into Cale in the casino and talked to him fopr 45 minutes. What a great gut

    Haha, freudian slip??

  17. Who sings With or Without You? Is that the U2 song? I don’t listen to them much, I just Wikipedia’d it.

With or Without You is from one of U2’s earliest albums The Joshua Tree, and I think it came out in 1987 if I’m not mistaken, back in the days when Bono used to be quite good looking. The song was pretty big and it propelled U2 to big big fame. I absolutely love the song. its very pretty. and here’s a youtube of it.

back to Kris. i can never get tired of Falling Slowly mash up, and the MITM. have we got any more vids?

  18. I just reserved my seats for Kris’ concert here in the Philippines. I am so excited!!!!!!! I will finally see Kris live!!!!! :)

  19. Kris’s LLWD video was #6 on this weekends VH1 Top20 Video countdown. It was up two spots from last week for a new peak.

  20. Hi guys, I just had to come back out of lurking to say how much I loved watching these videos. Seems like an incredible concert, and I can’t wait to hear more from girlygirl and to hear from everyone else that was there. Someone yesterday said that Kris was the gift that keeps on giving and I totally agree. I really hope he comes in concert somewhere near me!

Congrats carmine2008! I know you will have an awesome time seeing Kris live!

  21. LLWD just debuted on AT40 at #29. YAY.

Expert krinja work, as usual! I love that Kris is doing all these different types of gigs, and mixing in covers with his own material. I’m dying to know tour details, though! I hope we get some news soon.

  22. That Yesterday cover is just amazing. Kris is so talented. He just knows how to connect with the audience, and make people feel the songs that he’s singing. He’s also smart, he knows that the best way to relate to those who may not be hardcore fans is to sprinkle well known songs throughout his originals.

  23. Kris’s LLWD video was #6 on this weekends VH1 Top20 Video countdown. It was up two spots from last week for a new peak.

AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! I just watched too… I’m so happy right now. #6 #6 #6 – Let’s get him up even more next week.

Girlygirl, can I just tell how many levels of envy I have for you right now. You must be flyin’ high!!! How awesome for you. I can’t wait until he comes back to Chicago.

  24. I am really enjoying all the different videos coming through of Kris’ performances – I definitely like the soulful/bluesy vibe, it works for him I think. I hope he comes and plays a small venue up here in the DC area, I’d totally go, heh.

  25. LLWD at #6? hurray….they only show top 10 videos in VHI in my country so now I’ll be finally able to watch the vid on TV!

carmine2008 and girlygirl, i am green with envy and we need videos and a full report of your experiences

  26. They’re really good performances, don’t get me wrong but Kris has a really good album out that translates live even better. Why all the covers? Idol’s over and Kris is now his own artist. I’m not being sarcastic just apparently uninformed.

  27. Kris performed yesterday 4 songs from his album, actually 5 because Heartless is on his album and 4 covers.

“So last night during Kris Allen’s performance at BB King’s he brought two little kids up on stage after seeing their signs in the audience. It’s pretty much cute overload.”

  28. Girlygirl, I loved all these videos, but I have one question: Did the audience really sound like a middle-school lunchroom at noon?

Hopefully, that was just the audio, b/c seriously, why bother to go if you are going to yammer the entire time?

On a positive note, these were beautiful, Cale’s voice blends well with his.

  29. I think there is some confusion because only the covers videos have been posted, but he did just as many new songs off of his album. I think the whole setlist is listed in the post. This particular acoustic concert he did about an equal mix of album songs/ covers and when he plays with the KAB they do more album songs than they do covers.

  30. I was at BB Kings last night and I have videos of the entire set except for Heartless, MITM and LLWD. I’m currently sitting in a hotel with slower than molasses wi-fi so I will have to wait until I get home to upload them which should be later this evening!

Kris was tremendous last night as usual. I’d estimate that there were at least 500 people there and Kris completely owned the room. There were people of all ages and genders and he and Cale really put on a fantastic show!

  31. mmk28, thank you. That video is just too cute. It put the biggest smile on my face.

I don’t get why people think it’s a problem that Kris sprinkles in covers with his original songs. The covers help him make a connection with the audience, who will be more apt to give his new music a listen, if he sings songs that they know. These performances are also about Kris promoting and selling himself, which the covers help him do.

  32. “So last night during Kris Allen’s performance at BB King’s he brought two little kids up on stage after seeing their signs in the audience. It’s pretty much cute overload.”

Awww, that was so cute! Thanks for posting that, mmk28.

Amused by Kris flubbing the line from Yesterday. Oh Kristopher–a Beatles song?!!! But he owned it. And his version was beautiful in spite of it.

Am enjoying all these videos this morning. Thanks MJ!!

OMG, there was someone on here that was going to take her daughters! IIRC one was 5 w/blond hair and the other 9 w/darker hair! I’ll bet anything those were her daughters!!!! What was her name, I can’t remember…

  34. cookcricket, was it Ratna12? That would be so great if it was her daughters!! Can’t wait for confirmation on that…

No wait, I think it was Joanne? I’m not sure, sorry, should just shut up! :-)

  35. OMG, there was someone on here that was going to take her daughters! IIRC one was 5 w/blond hair and the other 9 w/darker hair! I’ll bet anything those were her daughters!!!! What was her name, I can’t remember…

I’ll bet those were her girls. They definitely looked 5 and 9 years old. Too, too cool!

  36. I’ll bet those were her girls. They definitely looked 5 and 9 years old. Too, too cool!

    yes yes, got to be.
awwww, that was toooo cute :)

  37. Yes hoosiermama, I’m thinking Joanne, because I kept thinking it started with a J. Looking forward to possible confirmation! :D That was just so adorable and sweet!

  38. Why all the covers?

Why? Because it’s smart. Even the most die-hard fan will lose interest in the 14th live version of ___ of of the album. Throw in a cover song and you’ve added some increased interest. It gives us something new to chew over.

Yeah, and one of the primary reasons is because this was a club, not a Kris Allen concert. There would have been a lot of people there who weren’t familiar with Kris’s music. And someone mentioned it sounding like a lunchroom. Well, yeah, it was a club. I don’t go to clubs, so I don’t know, but I would assume it’s kinda noisy in there.

  40. Kris sounded lovely on Yesterday (even if he did fluff the words a little).

I wish the people who were there IRL would show up and give us details. I’m impatient.

  41. Hey all! Yes, those were my girls!!! Thanks to whoever linked the video, I didn’t have my video camera last night so my husband missed out on that part. As soon as we got there, Ratna12 recognized me right away and we agreed to sit together. We also met another gal who came from LA (Gabrielle, if you’re lurking I know you’re there! LOL!) and we got a table inside the restaurant. Girlygirl arrived and we ate and waited for the show to start and Kris is just SO awesome……*sigh* Kris, Vegas misses you already. Please come back soon!

And girlygirl, I’m so jealous that you met Cale! I should have stuck around a bit longer instead of leaving! :O

  42. Thanks for the link Diane. I missed it too

3D entertainment was the focus of the event. Aside from having American Idol Kris Allen entertain the crowd, he became a live demo of Sony’s technology as his performance was concurrently displayed in 3D behind him.

I wonder why the shades but i guess it’s related in a way to the demo

And yes more details Joanne!! You’re girls are so cute btw

  43. Am I the only one who missed Kris and Cale sporting the shades at the CES gig?

Those are not regular shades. The are the 3D glasses you wear when watching the next generation in TV viewing in 3D. They are coming out with 3D TVs as a step up from HDTV. It is supposed to be the next big thing. I saw a segment about it on Saturday GMA. A lot of networks are currently or starting to broadcast programming in both HD & 3D.

  44. I’d estimate that there were at least 500 people there and Kris completely owned the room. There were people of all ages and genders and he and Cale really put on a fantastic show!

That’s great to hear. Thanks for the report adh1018! I’m really torn between Kris doing a tour of small, intimate venues and opening for a big act. Although as long as he gets to the West Coast either way will suffice.

  45. Joanne, please tell us more! “Tell me more, tell me more!” What exactly happened? Why did Kris call your girls up? Detail, girl!!

Hehe! The girls and I had gone to sit up front near the stage and they made drawings for him and held them up. So he called them up and showed their drawings to the audience and gave them hugs! And my 5 yr old kept saying, “I love you, Kris!” And Kris told her, “Come to every show from now on!” LOL, it was soooo cute, Kris is sweet and funny and just amazing. He really is an American Idol!

  46. Yay Joanna S.!!!! I thought that could be the case! Your girls are darling, and what a thrill for them!

I’m with those who want more details! LOL! It sounds as if you had an amazing time!

I can’t wait to hear more from girlygirl either, esp. about Cale’s gut! (giggle) :D

How cool for all of you to get a chance to meet each other as well.

  47. Joanna, thanks! That’s so sweet.

cookcricket, we have Ratna12 to give us details too! yay!

    Did anyone get pics?

  48. Hi all! Made it back safely to L.A.! Running on less than 3 hours sleep so this may not be coherent. Sorry for the freudian slip about Cale — they were calling me to get on the airport shuttle as I was trying to type my comment. I meant to type “great guy”, although it looks like he has a great gut too!

Hi Joanna and Ratna12 (and Gabrielle if you’re lurking) – had a great time meeting you last night!

I got to the club around 8 p.m. I had called Ratna12 to try and meet up there and I ended up getting to sit at Joanna’s table — which was good because by the time I got to the ticket person all the tables were gone — so there was just standing room only. Didn’t sit at the table very much — we all wandered right up by the stage to listen and try and take video/pictures (my camera, unfortunately, was a big fail). People were sitting on the floor litterally inches from where Kris and Cale were playing.

Joanna’s girls were so cute. They each had handmade signs that said “I Love Kris” — he showed them to the crowd and gave them hugs. So sweet. He also brought 4 young women out of the crowd to sing backup on AWM, which was fun. One semi-weird moment…when he finished LLWD, a bunch of people basically rushed the stage, which looked like it frightened or startled Kris, although he handled it very well and got people to chill and back off quickly. After he did his beautiful cover of Yesterday, he stuck around for at least 10 minutes signing autographs. One guy next to me was trying to get Kris’ attention by yelling that he was from Conway — Kris eventually heard him and greeted the man and his wife.

His set was a mix of stuff of his album and covers. What’s interesting about Kris is that he changes the arrangement and phrasing around a lot, so even on something like LLWD he isn’t going to do the same performance time after time. I thought he sounded absolutely great — and of course he looked hot as always. When we ran into Cale after the show, he talked a bit about how they just came up with a new arrangement for BWCU the other day. I enjoyed all the songs, but his covers of Chasing Pavements and Yesterday and the new arrangement on Before We Come Undone were just beautiful. The crowd really were into Kris’ set — although there were some people who talked through the entire concert, which annoyed the crap out of me.

The concert ended a little after 10. Joanna left with her kids and Ratnas12, Gabrielle and I walked around the casino a bit (I lost $25 playing computer blackjack). We ended up running into Cale, and, although we a few other people, we basically monopolized his time for 45 min or so. He loves talking about the music and the band — and he is so sincere in his belief of Kris’ talent, which is nice to see. He said they still haven’t told the band anything about the tour — although he did talk about the 2 shows in the Phillipines. He also said that Kris likes to surprise people and that they will probably play some new stuff once they go out on tour. He raved about Andrew’s guitar skills. Evidently all the guys in the band are songwriters so it will be interesting to see if Kris collaborates with the others as well as with Cale. He also talked about his old band and songs he’s written like “The Sun”. Oh and they haven’t heard anything more about the AOL sessions. Cale told a funny story about how they chose to do Red Guitar for that. I hope he didn’t mind being surrounded for 45+ minutes — he genuinely seemed happy to talk to us, so hopefully we weren’t bugging him. (Kris was nowhere to be seen during our chat with Cale — he said something about playing poker after the show during his in-between banter, so maybe that’s where he was).

Even though I’m exhausted and my feet are all blistered (note to self: purple suede pumps not good for walking 2 miles in), this short trip was totally worth it! We were all telling Cale that they have to play

  49. Ok, you can’t drop a tidbit like that and not follow up! What was the funny story about them choosing to do Red Guitar for AOL Sessions?

(Oh, and glad that you had such a great time!)

  50. Woot! Thanks for the deets so far girlygirl! (That’s right Diane, we get to hear from Ratna12 too!)

I agree with washpd, more on the funny story re: Red Guitar!

  51. Sadz…girlygirl is probably asleep now!! Maybe we’ll get “the rest of the story” tonight!

  52. It’s not a funny haha story . It was just that when they were first discussing the AOL sessions, one of the songs suggested that they do was Red Guitar. But when they actually did the AOL Sessions and were told that Red Guitar was on the set list, they were like, um, what? Because the band hadn’t actually practiced that song in months.

  53. I’m pretty amazed that Kris has been singing his face off and his voice is just awesome, no worries. Anyone remember how Kelly had lost her voice completely by the end of her season, Jordin messed up her vocal cords something fierce, and even Cook, who had a lot of experience touring and singing every night, was hoarse and kind of scuffed up by the end of Idol and at points during the tour. But Kris sang the show and then the tour and now all these gigs so close together, and he seems to just sail along.

I love this boy and his can-do spirit. Not a big fan of the “get-er done” thing, but he really does just put his head down and get it done.

  54. Does anybody know anything about Ryland Steen – I saw an item about Reel Big Fish and their new concert tour (they have some western USA dates then a two-month European tour) and they list Ryland as their drummer. Anybody know what his status is with the Kris Allen Band?

    Love these videos!

  55. love all the videos. I hope he keeps ‘chasing pavements’ in his list when he tour. I just l.o.v.e his take on it!!

Girlygirl and Joanne, thanks so much for the recap. I’m happy that you had such a good time :)

IKR? I remember before the tour started that people were saying he wouldn’t be able to finish it w/o damaging his vocal cords b/c of a lack of training and poor technique. I guess he’s doing something right! :)

  57. Gah, that “Falling Slowly/With or Without You” mash up is just pure genius. He sounded fantastic and just filled it with pure, raw emotion. The rest of the songs sounded awesome also.

  58. jmaster, thanks for the AWM link. Absolutely adorable. How the heck did Kris get so good at live performing so quickly. The audience must have really enjoyed his interaction with the crowd. This and the bit with the two darling girls………now I am completely confused as to what kind of tour Kris should do. Small and intimate sure works for him but then so did the larger radio xmas balls. Maybe it’s because he just loves performing so much that it all works. Oh, and very glad Cale is there with him, there connection is so obviously more than just band mates.

  59. Thank you all for the videos and extra special thanks to Girlygirl and Joanne.

Joanne, your girls are just too precious. You have much to be proud of. Kris was so darn sweet with them too. That was a huge ‘awwwww’ moment.

Hmm, about Ryland and Reel Big Fish. I hope it doesn’t conflict with Kris’ tour. I wasn’t a big Ryland fan at first, but he’s really grown on me. I notice that his other band had been signed to 19 Jive before and were dropped by the label while on tour. Jive later released an album of their work and didn’t give them a penny. Now I’m wondering if there is any connection to the AOL Sessions and the excuse of ‘legal issues’ for not showing the Kris Allen band performances … yet.

  60. Cale said last night that as far as he knows, Ryland is staying with Kris’ band, not going back to Reel Big Fish.

  61. I really like acoustic BWCU and what girlygirl said about the phrasing and the constant changes Kris makes is really apparent in this song. Thank you, girlygirl for your detailed recap. If you have more little details we wouldn’t refuse to read them (any other funny banter, did Kris seem tired, in the videos it doesn’t seem so, was the majority of the audience Kris fans, I mean did they know the songs?) I’m really glad that you got see/enjoy Kris and his music and talk to Cale for so long (no, I’m not jealous at all….)
AWM is a LOT of fan. It seems that the idea to call the ladies on the stage came to him at that very moment, that was cool. The ladies were taking pictures, lol. When will you have the chance to sing on stage with Kris Allen again? You totally need a picture of this once in a lifetime moment.

ETA: girlygirl, I just saw your comment about Ryland. That makes me really happy!

  62. What a blast this seems to have been!!
Thanks so much girlygirl & Joanne for any comments so far- yeah I certainly would not mind any more snippets you might have to offer!! Joanne how did your girls react after going on the stage with Kris – did they say much?? That was so adorable!!
Kris asking those 4 girls on stage was so good!! He seems so comfortable up there now with his reacting with the audience!!
Girlygirl – it must have been so cool just being there chatting with Cale for 45 minutes – wonderful!!
Aghhh about the AOL sessions- hope they are shown soon?

  63. girlygirl there were no photos on the page from the link- do you have to register first to see them?

  64. Joanne how did your girls react after going on the stage with Kris – did they say much?? That was so adorable!!

They were really happy, my 5 yr old spent the rest of the night bouncing around everywhere, and kept calling him “Krissy.” LOL. My 9 yr old cried a little because she was so happy, she did the same thing when she met Anoop, hehe. After the concert and we were on our way home, my 5 yr old said, “Mommy, I miss Kris! When are we going to see my Krissy again?”

Oh, and I soooo wanted to kick my husband today! I told him that Kris played at the CES event, and he said, “hey, they offered me free tickets to that show at work, but I turned it down.” I could have killed him! :/

  65. Joanna – that is so sweet. I think Kris just made 2 fans for life. Actually 6 if we count the 4 girls he brought up on stage. My husband would have been making his own dinner for a month if he turned down free tickets for a Kris performance.

  66. Thanks for all the recaps and the links. AWM (one of my faves)…that performance put a big grin on my face. The kids were sweet and Kris was so nice. Very comfortable up there, isn’t he?

  67. Everything’s pretty much been said. I had a wonderful time with my friends. BBK is primarily a restaurant with entertainment, so yes, it was noisy. It was just a different experience and great in it’s own way. Lots of video already so I won’t post mine.

  68. Oh, and I soooo wanted to kick my husband today! I told him that Kris played at the CES event, and he said, “hey, they offered me free tickets to that show at work, but I turned it down.” I could have killed him! :/

What’s wrong with him????? I’m so glad you and your girls were able to go last night. It was extra special too with them getting to go up on stage. :D

My husband has turned down or given away some great things at work before, but I’m pretty sure he would gotten the tickets. (At least I’d hope so.)

Thanks for posting AWM!! I can’t believe how shallow Kris makes me sometimes, but the wiggling he was doing when his back was to the camera was just…it’s as if the music is moving right through him!!! ;)

Note to four girls on stage, next time continue to sing yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, after Kris starts singing again!!! :D That was so much fun to watch!

  69. Again thanks for all of the video links and recaps! breakdown, I’m so glad you had a great time!!!! :D

  70. I can’t believe how shallow Kris makes me sometimes, but the wiggling he was doing when his back was to the camera was just…it’s as if the music is moving right through him!!!

    It reminded me of Elvis.

  71. “Everything’s pretty much been said. I had a wonderful time with my friends. BBK is primarily a restaurant with entertainment, so yes, it was noisy. It was just a different experience and great in it’s own way. Lots of video already so I won’t post mine.”

Breakdown – I’d love to hear your perspective of the evening. Don’t feel just because others have given their version that yours isn’t just as worthwhile!! Glad you had a great time!!

“Oh, and I soooo wanted to kick my husband today! I told him that Kris played at the CES event, and he said, “hey, they offered me free tickets to that show at work, but I turned it down.” I could have killed him! “:/

Oh Joanna- if I’d been your husband I might have stayed quiet about that!! Just as well you & your girls had your time!! Your girls will be able to relive their moment for life as this is captured on video!! It must have been a moment to treasure for you as well!!

  72. Hi all, just got back. My 4.5 hours bus trip ended, but WOW so worth it.
I’m so happy that when I saw that girlygirl booked the trip, I decided to follow her. I haven’t watch any of the video and just skimmed the comments section.

Kris is incredible. Obviously, coming from idol, his vocals is basically the same like in his CD, which is perfect. But the one thing that really, really struck me is his looks. I’m going to be superficial here and hope I won’t offend anyone.
Joanna S told me that “wait till you see him in real life, he is even more good looking”. So, I thought, well OK, it is I’m sure impossible to do that, since I’ve seen all his photos, videos, etc.

But, my GOD !. Up close, he is absolutely stunning. Soo pretty, soo gorgeous with the right amount of scruffiness. OMG. I think the camera makes him look uglier, and we know how photogenic he is. I see him through my camera and then I look up to see him live, and it is true. SIGH.
All those people that think Kris is goodlooking on TV are missing out. :)

OK, enough. sorry. I’ll comment about something else later. But let’s just say watching him this time makes me addicted and for sure I’ll go to more concerts of Kris.

  73. Joanna’s 2 little girls are just previous. We came in to get the table at 7:00 pm and every half hour the girls ask me and her mom “what time is it ?”. They are so impatient to see Kris and her mom was counting down, “OK an hour and a half more for Kris”, etc, etc.

The younger girl even sat on my lap while eating her dinner. Can’t believe see got a hug from Kris. he-he.
Afterwards, I made sure that I hugged both girls and I told them that Kris hugged them, so I had to hug them so I got secondary hugs from Kris. :)

I know it is difficult to hear Kris talking on the mike, but he asked the little girls to go with him all around on his tour. ” It is fun go to the bus ride.” and some other girl (an adult) yelled “Kris, can I be on your bus ?”

  74. I noticed too that Kris missed some words on “Yesterday”, but really even though he is a Beatles’ fan, it is possible to forget the words.

When we spoke with Cale afterwards, he mentioned about the Red Guitar at AOL session, as basically performed without enough practiced; and then performing BWCU with that acoustic arrangement just practiced the day before; and “Yesterday” was a bonus song that the audience asked. Kris performed that without any practice. I’m sure he has not sung that since Huckabee.

And by the way: from now on always try to ask him to sing one more song. I think he mentioned on the acoustic concert w/ Castro that that was the first time he got asked to do another song, usually people wanted him to leave. (he was joking of course).

  75. Glad you got home safe, Ratna12! LOL, I told you he was even more gorgeous in person! I already wish I could do last night all over again. It was great meeting you and the others! Today my kids were on the phone telling Grandma all about being on stage with Kris and getting hugs from him. They are going to remember this forever. :)

  76. Ratna, I’m so glad you posted your recap. The videos look like so much fun, and I was so hoping we would here more from the people who were there.

If and when I get to see Kris live I’ll be sure to scream for one more song (or better yet, two).

  77. Joanna, your girls are just beautiful. It’s awesome that Kris brought them up on stage and hugged them.

  78. Apparently he concert in the Phillipines are out of all the good tickets. They only have the nose bleeds and people are crying on twitter. I think there were lots of reserved ones even when the prices were even not out. I’m sure this concert is goingto be a blast!

  79. I seriously love that Yesterday cover. Warts and all. He’s got to stop making me tard so much. He keeps taking these songs I’m sick of, or don’t even like, and making me like them. Dammit. I really want to hear him rearrange Happy Birthday. Hee

I prefer this new arrangement of Before We Come Undone. I wasn’t a huge fan of the album version.

    Joanna, your girls are adorable!

Can we please have Alright With Me for second single?

Very happy that Cale is growing that scruff back. He looks too young for me to drool over without it.

And by the way: from now on always try to ask him to sing one more song. I think he mentioned on the acoustic concert w/ Castro that that was the first time he got asked to do another song, usually people wanted him to leave.

Thanks for the info Ratna12. Is that from Cale, or just something you gleened from the conversation?

Thanks for all the reports and video!

Skimble7, even the most veteran acts do lots of covers in their live shows. Like others have said, it breaks up the set, and keeps the audience invested. It keeps the musicians invested too. They tend to have fun on them. It also allows artists to show off their arranging skills, and honor their influences.

  80. I seriously love that Yesterday cover. Warts and all.

Me too! It looks totally spontaneous, which I love. If you watch Cale during it, he looks like even he didn’t see it coming.

Guys, I need you all to pray for me because I friend of mine MIGHT be able to score us Meet and Greet passes to his concert here in the Philippines on February. I really hope this works out, so I can properly “verify” Ratna12’s statements. Hahaha.

  82. I will carmine2008! :D

Also, Wow Ratna and Joanna, I find it hard to believe that he looks even better in person. Gah! I’m too old for this!

Thank you so much for the recap! Anyone who hasn’t seen Kris live loves any news, about Kris live! Thank you!

  83. Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou! So much for all your videos, pics and ADORABLE!!! RECAPS!!!! I’m grinning like crazy!!!!
This man is so adorable (and hot) and I’m so glad you guys had such an awesome time!!!

  84. I loved this “yesterday”, better than the Huckabee one, and the fact that he botched up the lyrics makes it more precious!!! Gaah I love the sheepish smile he shared with Cale!!!

  85. thanks Ratna12 for your report!

lol at the secondary hugs :)

i notice that ‘yesterday’ seemed very much spontaneous; it is great!!!

so he looks better in person than on the camera?!!
it’s hard to believe.. but i’ll take your word for it ;) .. i guess it’s close to his pictures in the photoshoots ..

  86. carmine2008 – i hope you get in the M&G to see Kris and the band. good luck! (share pics & videos!)

got my tickets today, YESSSS!!! now just need to figure out where the venue is exactly and how to get there. heh. :)

No, it is just an observation.
It is obviously easier to ask for an encore in a smaller venue, but just ask. I think that Kris is one of those singer that has so many songs in him that’s why he can just “easily” add songs in his gig without / with small preparations. I haven’t seen if the videos capture it, but after “Yesterday” was over, Cale was applauding Kris.

The conversation w/ Cale was so long, it seemed a blur now, but I’ll try to remember and post the ones that I can post. Girlygirl, feel free to correct me.

But I think I asked Cale at the beginning to twit the plan earlier so that we can be better prepared, and he said that sometimes they did not know ahead of time. Like that BB King gig, they thought that they would just sing 4-5 songs, but then ( I think he said maybe just several days before), the club said that they have the WHOLE hour. So, they have to “scramble” to fill that. Just my opinion, maybe that’s why the arrangement for BWCU was just prepared the day before. Which is amazing if you think about it.

Kris amazes me more and more because of stuff like this. We see and hear how versatile he is as arranger and his song libraries just kept growing. I heard Adele’s song before sang by her and I never like it, but I love it when Kris sings it.

  88. Ratna12

I thought it was the CES show Cale was telling us about where they thought they’d do just 2-3 songs only to find out that they’d been booked for an hour?

  89. Ok you guys who got to be there, I’ve heard guesses ranging from 5’3″ to 5’8″, how tall is he?

Glad you got home safe, Ratna12! LOL, I told you he was even more gorgeous in person! I already wish I could do last night all over again. It was great meeting you and the others! Today my kids were on the phone telling Grandma all about being on stage with Kris and getting hugs from him. They are going to remember this forever.

Hi Joanna, so glad to have met you and the girls and to see them “famous” now is great. Kris is putty in little girls’ hands, I think.

Eventhough it was a busy weekend with the CES, the place was PACKED also with so many who came to see Kris. That is why it was noisy because not everybody came for him, and there is dinner too.
Kris started about 5 minutes after 9:00 pm and many including me were restless already waiting for him to come out.

All the tables in front of the stage were reserved already (we did not know this) for $150 / table, so our table was on the side. I was half way crouching to get a better view without blocking the people sitting behind me. There was a space in front of the stage and then the reserved table. People were not supposed to sit on that floor because of course it is unfair for the people that paid good money already. But, by the end of 4rth song, people just did not care and sat on the floor, including me. Now I know that I can just do that. He-he.
Even Kris was commeting how much he liked the fact that so many people just sat on the floor with their cameras up toward Kris.

I’ll be soo surprised if Kris won’t be invited back. Knowing that he is popular and people came from Los Angeles area and San Francisco and flight from California is just about an hour. The 3 people that also talked to Cale (total 6 of us) drove from San Francisco & Sacramento area. So, I’m hopefull to see you again , Joanna.

  91. I read in a recap that when Cale was asked if Kris is going to play piano on tour his answer was YES, which made me really happy. I miss the “ANS” and “Bright Lights” days a lot. So we can hope for a beautiful performance of “Bring it Back” on piano when the tour starts! I can’t wait. (Ratna12 and girlygirl if you were present during this converastion you can contradict it or confirm it, I hope the latter. Thank you both for all the information that you keep giving us).

    Hi girlygirl,
How many song for the CES anyway ? I think Kris sang about 9 songs to fill an hour with banters in between at BB King. I did not get a chance to see how many songs from CES, but I thought it was only 4 or 5 and they were all covers (somebody mentioned this).
-MITM, Heartless, Falling Slowly, Chasing Pavement, …anything else ?
Like I said, it’s a blur now, so I’m not sure.

We asked Cale, and he said that Kris will play piano too on the tour.
Since I loved “The Truth” , I asked him if Kris will play just once on the piano for that song since Katy likes the piano version; and Cale said that maybe not. It seems strange / not as good just playing it on the piano. :(

Katy wanted to come to the BB King gig but couldn’t. We mentioned to Cale that Katy had this Web premiere thing at Arkansas the same night. Cale seemed perplexed and not now, he then smiled and said that “Well you guys know more of the details and I do.”
    That was embarrasing, but yeah.

  94. Ok you guys who got to be there, I’ve heard guesses ranging from 5′3″ to 5′8″, how tall is he?

    Deez, he’s 5’7″

  95. Sorry, I just can not remember all at once, so I’m just going to post as I remember them.

    Cale convo:

About the AOL session, he did not know what legal thing that prevents it’s airing because we mentioned that maybe it was about the Heartless mash up.

We talked about how some of the songs are so perfect for TV shows and it seemed that Cale liked that idea too. :)
I remember that Snow Patrol seemed to have mixed feelings that their songs are “more” popular after they are used in the medical shows (ER & Grey’s A finale); even though they are happy about it.

We congratulated him about the fact that LLWD single will probably reach Gold next week. He was really happy about that and said that
    ” It is big.”

He said that the band was excited to go to Phillipines and that maybe they will do something different (?) or big (?) . Can’t wait for the videos.
And then Cale said that there is something else at New York after that, and we said “the Kradison” concert. I thought “OMG, I guess I’m the only one that have angst about that concert, because he (and probably Kris) don’t worry at all.” SIGH.

  96. girlygirl

He loves talking about the music and the band — and he is so sincere in his belief of Kris’ talent, which is nice to see.

Yes, Cale was effusive of Kris talents; his singing, arrangement ability, and song writing. Just by listening to it that we are seeing / hearing only the tip of his talents; which is scary but very exciting.

Somehow we talked about Kris’ vocal range. Cale seemed interested on what kind of singers will be on AI S9 after last year.
He said that Kris has great vocal range, and if you don’t think so, just try to sing along with him. Cale sometimes couldn’t.

My opinion only: many people belittle Kris’ vocal range because he is constantly compared with someone with crazy vocal range.

  97. I thought “OMG, I guess I’m the only one that have angst about that concert, because he (and probably Kris) don’t worry at all.” SIGH.

Ratna12, I’m a little worried too but Kris and Cale don’t read the blogs as we do, so they don’t know about the whole discussion that this concert has caused or about the fanwars. Hmmm now that I rethink it Kris (and his mother) definitely knows via twitter, but I’m happy it seems that it hasn’t affected them and their enthusiasm, since this concert with Kradison as an idea (if you totally forget the fanwars) is totally awesome. Also Cale seems to have a really positive attitude about everything. That’s reason #356 that I’m really happy Cale is in Kris’s band. Kris totally needed a friend with him during this crazy journey (Cale once said:”I will follow [Kris] anywhere. His humility is amazing and so I trust what he says and believe he is capable of anything. For his friendship and late nights at the edge.”) So I think Kris will be fine because he will share the stage with 2 good friends, Adam and Allison and he will play his songs with his awesome band in front of many fans. Believe me there are Kris fans in NY or at least that’s what I have heard.

  98. mmk28

… So I think Kris will be fine because he will share the stage with 2 good friends, Adam and Allison and he will play his songs with his awesome band in front of many fans.

I wish that some fans realize that these three are good friends before insulting them.

Believe me there are Kris fans in NY or at least that’s what I have heard.

LOL. And I hope that they will come and support Kris. We’ll see. I’m just concern that the support will not be in proportions (i.e 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 )

And I know that there are Kris’ fans too from Los Angeles and somewhere else in California. Yes, not all of them come from Arkansas. And we voted pretty hard too, I know I did. :)

  99. Ratna12
That is why it was noisy because not everybody came for him, and there is dinner too.

Oh, so this must have been one of those supper clubs!

  100. Ok you guys who got to be there, I’ve heard guesses ranging from 5′3″ to 5′8″, how tall is he?

I’m 5’10 and 1/2″, and I met him (I love saying that. lol), and he’s got to be 5’7″, which is what he always says he is. That’s the height of one of my friends and he’s the same size. He’s not bulky, he’s kind of slender. He’s probably weighs 140.

OMG, I guess I’m the only one that have angst about that concert, because he (and probably Kris) don’t worry at all.” SIGH.

Would anyone like to say what worries them about this concert? Were you as worried about the GMA concert? Fanwars? I don’t think they matter a lot. Are Adam’s fans also worried about the same thing? If not, why not? Or are you worried about the “media bias”? Or do you think Adam is better than Kris and will somehow blow him away? I’m just curious, I guess.

  101. You’re 5’10” Ross? Who knew?
I’m a shrimp (5’1″) and when I stood next to Kris I could swear we were almost eye-to-eye. On the other hand, I often think I’m as tall as 6′–footers. It’s called delusions of height.

  102. I’m 5′10 and 1/2″, and I met him (I love saying that. lol), and he’s got to be 5′7″, which is what he always says he is. That’s the height of one of my friends and he’s the same size. He’s not bulky, he’s kind of slender. He’s probably weighs 140.

ross, my ex was around 5’7″1/2 and had the same body type as Kris. He weighed around 165 and he was quite athletic (hockey player). I guess Kris must be between 155 and 160.

It’s so cool that Kris got such a good friend as Cale in his band!

  103. “Ok you guys who got to be there, I’ve heard guesses ranging from 5′3″ to 5′8″, how tall is he?

    Deez, he’s 5′7″ ”

That’s my husband’s height – & my son is 6’1 1/2 – about the same as Adam & I’m a little under 5’5 & my girls are 5’3 – so somewhere between there might be Katy’s height so I can now picture the differences- making it more realistic!!

Speaking of real – thanks so much everyone for your ongoing titbits about the concert. It really does make things more realistic for those of us who live overseas & have not much chance of ever seeing Kris in concert [ Philippines aside] !!
I really appreciate your recaps – as I can imagine what it would be like to be there listening live!!

So interesting to hear from Cale how some of these performances are put together at the last minute as they are given short notice to extend their programme – so no wonder there are lots of covers!!!!!
[ ha ha] Its fine by me – Kris has such a large repertoire – I find all his performances fascinating. No wonder Kris coped with the idol stage so well- he is able to adapt to any situation it seems !!

The way I look at the performance of “Kradam” in NY – is to think of the concert as maybe the last time the 3 might be performing together for a long time & to just enjoy the occasion. Who cares about fan wars & the media – lets just enjoy the music that all 3 of them will produce on stage!!

  104. Who cares about fan wars & the media – lets just enjoy the music that all 3 of them will produce on stage!!

This is a really good way to look at this!! I think Kris, Allison and Adam will have a blast being on stage together. It seems like it could be a really fun concert!

My angst is about certain fans and the media. Sigh…

Someone mentioned that it would be nice if mj had three different threads for the concert and I agree.

ETA: judes, great catch on Kris’s ability to adapt. I would think and hope that his label and management would see this as a great strength in such an amazing artist. :D

  105. Thank you, thank you for sharing your experiences with all of us. I really enjoyed reading all of your comments. I don’t know why I’m addicted to him and his music, but I am. I work at home and wasn’t getting enough free time to listen to his album so one day I decided to turn off the sound to my exercise DVD and turn on his album instead. It was perfect! I use Leslie Sanson’s 4 fast miles walking DVD. If you start his album when she starts walking, you finish up on Heartless. I use the album with the SMAYA bonus track and that takes you through the cool down. It’s the first time in my life that I can’t wait to exercise! I get my KA fix and do something healthy. I actually walked 8 miles yesterday so I could listen to it twice. I know… I need help… Someday I may go to a KAA (Kris Allen Anonymous) but right now I’m having too much fun…

  106. Lol, Masieta, that’s an exercise plan I could get into to. I might have to try that myself!
I want to add my thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences, pics, and videos. I can’t wait to see Kris in concert sometime, I’m sure hoping he comes somewhere near me.

  107. Ratna, thanks so much for posting more details.

I’m not a bit worried about the Kradison concert. I’m sure Kris and his band will do a great show, as they always do, and those in attendance will love it.

  108. I couldn’t help the stupid rin on my face when I saw this.

    katieschings86
My church definately played @krisallen #livelikeweredying this morning!!!!

To this I say score! I think she lives in Michigan.

  109. this is really random, but today i heard live like we’re dying on the radio for the first time! i got so excited that i screamed out loud lol :)

  110. cool payton. and amazingly, the other day I heard a cut off Taylor’s first album in a store too! “Heaven Knows.”

I think those retail outlets love them some Idols….

  111. We mentioned to Cale that Katy had this Web premiere thing at Arkansas the same night. Cale seemed perplexed and not now, he then smiled and said that “Well you guys know more of the details and I do.”
    That was embarrasing, but yeah.

That’s freakin’ hilarious!! I Love it!!!

Thank you Ratna12, girlygirl and anyone else who added all for the great details of the night. I’m so glad I checked back to this thread. Great new details.
I wonder why he won’t play piano on “The Truth” though? Bummer, I was hoping for that after I read it was Katy’s fav. Maybe it’s a really complicated piano piece or something. He’s not been playing that long – and sure as shit hasn’t had any time for piano lessons… LOL

  112. Okay, so I just saw these couple of vids today (had a long weekend hangover. LOL). Totally made my day. Thanks for the recaps girlygirl, Joanne, Ratna12, et al.

Apparently he concert in the Phillipines are out of all the good tickets. They only have the nose bleeds and people are crying on twitter.

I take this with a grain of salt actually. The annoying thing about ticket sales here in PH is that they block several (good) seats for the sponsors and promoters. Good news for Kris and the other bands because that’s outright revenue there. Bad news for the fans who want to buy tickets early. Last year, a couple of friends of mine got last VIP tickets for the Davids concert for free because the sponsors (who may not be interested in the act) started giving them away to employees etc.

BTW, I already purchased mine — row D — but hopefully that actually means 4th row. LOL.

OMG, can you take me with you? :P LOL j/k. Good luck! Hopefully I get to meet Kris too when he gets here. *goes in stalker mode*

I’m worried that there will be a mass exodus to the restroom while Kris is singing and twit about it, or twits about how many people were sitting down and listen to the singing instead of standing up and screaming, etc.

Or do you think Adam is better than Kris and will somehow blow him

    LOL, definitely NOT this.

But all these are just my own problem, and I will use my New Year’s resolution for sure.

Someone mentioned that it would be nice if mj had three different threads for the concert and I agree.

I was the one that suggested that one.

  115. I guess Kris must be between 155 and 160.

I’m actually about 165 to 170, usually. I wear a medium shirt, and the other day in that interview he said he wears a small. There’s no way he weighs anywhere near what I do. I’m about as thin as the guys in his band and around the the same height (except Cale – I didn’t meet him, so I don’t know). But Kris is actually sort of slight, up close. He has no fat on him at all, his face is very slender and chiseled, and when I shook his hand, it was very slender. He looks like he’d be light. At his height, I doubt he’s even 155. Then again, he seems like he has muscles, and they can add weight. But he’s definitely bulkier on TV than in person.

  116. I know 19E/Jive are having legal issues with Kris’s AOL Sessions but has anyone heard or seen anything about Kris’s ITunes Celebrity Podcast he tweeted about a while ago? I haven’t seen it posted.

  117. ross, you met him so you have i guess a better take on that than me. Yes muscles are heavy. I don’t know how muscular he is. My comparison was my ex; although he was small, he didn’t have an ounce of fat, all muscles, hence his weight

  118. ross, also it’s true that camera are making people look a bit bigger than they are apparently.

Promotional/ticket flyer for Kris’ concert in Manila on Feb. 6th

Anyone know how much these tickets would be in dollars?

    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=11v5dfn&s=6

Using the current exchange rate, US$1 = $45.485 Philippine Peso

    So the tickets are priced at 11.58, 34.75, 69.49, 115.82 & 185.31 respectively.

  121. ross, you met him so you have i guess a better take on that than me.

Yeah, but I’m only speculating, you may actually be right. Weight isn’t something I’m good at guessing, actually. So I’ll backtrack here and say I have no idea! I was just surprised that Kris is actually a kind of slight person. He’s very cool-looking, though. His skin is really amazing, it kind of has a glow.

I think he was a little amused at how glad I acted to meet him, but he was polite enough to try not to show it. He kind of looked curious. “Who are you?” The guy is flatteringly interested in everything you have to say and not interested in hearing about himself. He asks you all about yourself. Easily the most charming person I ever met.

That’s interesting Ross as I’ve met Michael Johns here in Australia & I would say the same thing about him – he seemed so interested in what everyone had to say. He like Kris is also blindingly much more good looking in person than on film!! Maybe I’m just attracted to charming idols!!

  123. thanks tripp_ncwy for the info on the celebrity podcast. I’d like to hear Kris’s one. I like his musical tastes so it s/b interesting

ross, that’s a great quality. I like interested people and not people who sought to be interesting.

  124. Anybody watch the Idol Rewind on FOX tonight? It was Rock Week. Boy, that was a tough week for Kris (the Danny duet + Come Together–which I liked a lot, but judges didn’t). I thought he looked like he was going to cry or be sick after the harsh comments. But, it was so nice to see CALE in the audience on the results show jumping up and down with Katy when Kris was the first one through. He’s such a good friend (who knew back then?)!!

Also didn’t remember that it was Kris who presented Daughtry with a plaque for 5 million in worldwide sales. Made me wonder who will present Kris with his gold record plaque? They really should do it on Idol. Ideas?

  125. Anyone understand Kris’ last tweet?

    # Get away from me Leeds! about 3 hours ago from Echofon

I thought “Come Together” was really good. I didn’t understand the criticism at all. It appeared, watching it back, that they knew Kris and Allison would have to be dealt with (she was unfairly criticized as well). Some people don’t like the conspiracy theories, but I think they REALLY wanted Danny in the finals. They had heard Danny’s “Dream On” and knew that it stunk, they were afraid he’d get the boot. Adam vs Danny in the finals probably would’ve been more compelling TV.

The (Kris-Danny)duet wasn’t good. Strangely though, the studio version of their duet was great, it just didn’t translate on-screen.

Allison’s sing-out made me tear up all over again. LOL, I’m a hopeless dork.

I can’t watch that stuff again. It was too painful the first time. What I mean is: the judges. They annoyed me so much in this episode. Isn’t this the episode where even though Danny did his “scream on” note, the judges all tried to find something good to say about him, especially Paula? Didn’t she actually turn to the audience and encourage them to applaud him? Made me a little nauseous.

    Nice!
