Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta to Perform on Billboard New Years Eve Special On Fox

More details on the FOX New Year’s Eve special I told you about last week, featuring Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta via Billboard

Carmen Electra will host Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live special airing Dec. 31 from 11:00 PM to 12:30 AM on Fox. American Idol season eight winner Kris Allen, Idol finalist Allison Iraheta, and Sean Kingston are set to perform at the event, which will broadcast live from Las Vegas and Times Square in New York.

The special will showcase some of the most memorable moments from the Billboard Music Awards, and will count down the top 5 of the year in music, movies and television.

Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live special is executive-produced by Bob Bain, produced by Paul Flattery and directed by Michael Dempsey.

This sounds soooo much better than the trainwreck FOX produced last year. Poor David Cook had to share the stage in Las Vegas with a lame motorcycle stunt from Robbie Knievel…

  1. This sounds soooo much better than the trainwreck FOX produced last year. Poor David Cook had to share the stage in Las Vegas with a lame motorcycle stunt from Robbie Knievel’ ¦

That show was HORRIBLE. I couldn’t even watch most of it, kept flipping back and forth to watch for David. Horrible, horrible.

  2. It definitely couldn’t be worse. Even DC couldn’t save that piece of dreck. I still have nightmares when I think about it. Yikes!

  3. This sounds better than what they had last year to be honest. Cool for both Kris and Allison. So, this is more a Billboard Magazine gig broadcast on Fox…not the Fox New Year’s Even thing? Regardless, yet more good exposure for both Allison and Kris!

  4. This indeed sounds 100 times better than last year! Yay!

Tierbee, I switched channels back and forth too because last year it was that bad!

  5. Love Kris, Love Allison, Like Sean Kingston and WTF? Carmen Electra? do only over-sexed teenage males watch this show?

  6. I hope it’s okay to put this here. Daniel’s (Kris’s brother) latest tweet:

DA4Real @calevis is Hilarious!! I think he puts the icing on the @KrisAllen Cake, although @charlesbrowder would be the creme filling in the middle

  7. Diane

Daniel is probably reacting to Cale’s twitter party last night, which was a lot of fun, and during which he took some playful jabs at Kris.

Meanwhile do we know if Kris will be in NY or LasVegas for this NYE show? Maybe one in each city?

  8. Yeah, last year’s was horrible. I love Cook, so I switched back and forth between Ryan’s RNYE (not going to watch it this, year, shock) and Fox. Now I’ll keep it there unless Adam gets booked on another one, in which I case I will switch between *those* two.

Carmen Electra, tho? Is she still around?!

  9. They should all join Ryan Seacrest, get more Idols on and have an all-Idol show on New Years Eve…

Too bad Seacrest is over on ABC (maybe FOX can pick up their contract when it is done; I loved the old Dick Clark but sadly he isn’t the same since that terrible stroke – IMO he should retire or at least not speak).

  10. At Billboard.com you can scroll down to info about New Years. Nice, large picture of Kris and guitar. AND….you can click to hear Is It Over! Love this song. So happy to see it featured.

  11. Nice National exposure for Kris and Allison. Hopefully they will do more than their silly singles. At least they have a gig because Adam doesn’t seem to have one and isn’t David Cook playing at an Indian Casino this year, that seems to be a step down, isn’t it?

I wouldn’t call them silly singles. Allison would definitely benefit from another song being out there, but Kris is doing really well with LLWD.

  13. LLWD isn’t my fav, but the fact that it continues to rise daily on Itunes says something. I have to admit Allison’s single made me think of Miley, but she has some really good songs on her album…as does Kris!

  14. I wonder if this is the final line-up – three performers only? If this is the final line-up, that means each performer will probably have more than 1 song, if the program is expected to last for 1 hour and a half. Good for Kris and Allison! Must be a Jive hook-up or something. But Kris has been moving up the Billboard Charts with LLWD, so it can’t simply be a random thing.

  15. isn’t David Cook playing at an Indian Casino this year, that seems to be a step down, isn’t it?

Yeah, but it’s a lot more lucrative. I think he’s taken a lot of pains to say that the two shows he’s playing NYE weekend are NOT part of the Declaration Tour because that means that the label or one or other people won’t be dipping their hands into the money jar to share in the proceeds. (For sure, Simon Fuller will have a cut. Heh.) Plus Cook’s got nothing to promote at this time since he’s off writing for his next album. No need for him to be on TV where he’d likely be making scale anyway.

And yes, I agree with everyone about the horribleness of the Fox NYE Special last year. That show was horrific. They even managed to somehow eff up the presentation of Cook’s platinum plaque for Magic Rainbow. There are not enough words with the words “horror” embedded in them in one form or another that could adequately describe that, that epic disaster of a show.

ETA: On second thought, I take it back. Doing the two casino shows in California ISN’T a step down from doing the Fox NYE Special from last year.

  16. He closed his set with “LLWD” and I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten that emotional at a concert before. The whole sell-out crowd seemed to be singing along, drowning him out at times. It was such a moment for me as a fan – to see this crowd of fickle teens and bored parents embrace a singer that I’ve loved for what feels like so long. I feel like he was like a secret that I finally got to see people discover and fall in love with in front of my eyes.

Awww, LOVE THIS!! Thanks, Diane for the link! *waves hi* :-)

  17. Wow, we watched the motorcycle guy last year and I don’t remember David Cook appearing at all. Must have missed that part. I do remember the motorcycle stunt though, scared the bejeesus out of me.

  18. @hoosiermama: Aww I love that! So proud of Kris! When the crowd is doing the wave for you, you’ve officially made it! Haha :D

  19. The whole sell-out crowd seemed to be singing along, drowning him out at times.

This shows how much of an ear-worm LLWD has to it. It’s one of the reasons I think this was such a great choice for Kris as a first single.

  20. I agree with Keel…….Cook is probably making a bundle on his Dec. 30 and 31 gig. Casinos have New Years Eve specials with room, entertainment, food, drinks. Lots of fun. Even casinos in my dinky neck of the woods have plenty of top drawer entertainment and I am sure they are getting top pay, especially on New Years Eve. I think Cook recently appeared at a casino that Regis Philbin played at and you know Regis gets good money.

  21. hoosiermama, I just had to bring this over from another thread. Betcha can’t guess who I thought of when I read this!

I particularly love this part because it’s true for me too:
‘In short, I love Kris Allen. I love his adorable smile, his plaid obsession, his choice of best friends, and his perfectly humble demeanor. More than that, though, I love his music’ ¦.And his ability to rock a pair of tight jeans ‘

  22. ETA: On second thought, I take it back. Doing the two casino shows in California ISN’T a step down from doing the Fox NYE Special from last year.

Heh, yeah. IMO, it’s a major step (or two) UP.

  23. Not somethig new but interesting: in this Billboard article about the NYE show that MJ quotes above there is a link to listen to 30 sec of “Is It Over” . I like their choice! (for Allison they have “Robot Love” but unfortunately without a link, maybe they’ll put it later)

  24. Definitely a good idea for Fox to have Billboard do their NYE show this year instead of trying to do it themselves. I like it when they have shows originating from somewhere other than the East Coast, anyway, since I’m in Central, and you have to really work to find somebody who drops a ball for OUR midnight. Conan O’Brien was always really good about tossing out some dancing corn and wheat and cows, that kind of thing, for the Central time zone midnight, but he’s now done by 11:35 here, so we’d have to celebrate early. Which we’ve already done at 11 with the Times Square ball, anyway. The Las Vegas ones have tended to celebrate the East, Central, Mountain *and* West Coast midnights.

I think both Kris and Allison will be awesome guests, and LLWD, especially, is a great song for New Years.

    Why not “Holiday?”

If I were setting up the show, it would be at least 6 1/2 hours long, from 9:00 pm to 3:30 am EST (with a break for local news at 11:05 pm local time until 11:35). It would have coverage from all 4 main time zones, with a 15 minute live feed in each time zone for their midnight (from 11:50 to 12:05 in each time zone) and performing acts in the remaining time.

It would be even better if it started earlier with midnight around the world like it was in 2000, but that would take up way too much broadcast time.

Wasn’t that great -seeing the new millenium in all around the world!! Of course we here in Sydney are one of the first to celebrate the new year in – so it’d be great to share it again- seeing Kris & Allison on NY”s Eve this year. I’ll have to check our Fox’s programmming!!

Awww, I couldn’t have said it any better myself!! We are such fangirls!! :-)

Yes. Yes, that was amazing! Made even better by the realization that nothing blew up (with that whole Y2K thing)! Good memories!

  29. Nice National exposure for Kris and Allison. Hopefully they will do more than their silly singles

Silly single? LLWD is top 40 on two charts, and rising. BTW, in regards to the Jingle Ball last night, LLWD has moved up from the 17th most requested song at the station that hosted the event, to the tenth most requested song. And, the station has been getting a lot of calls today from people saying that Kris was their favorite performer from the event, and he’s also leading in the online poll about who was the favorite on the night. So I hope he continues to do what he’s doing, including singing his top 40 hit song, there’s a reason why he’s on more than 150 radio stations, with more adds to come.

  30. I had said it right from the beginning that Jive knew exactly what they were doing. That was when people were slamming on Kris for ” singing someone else’s” song, cover gate, even to the extent of saying LLWD will flop, his career is over, Jive/19E were bussing him and so much that I cannot count.
I kept on hammering the fact that few artists have their songs go staight up the charts upon release and even cited examples with lots of them that became popular after 5 good months! It took some 5 months to get up the itunes chart.
Guess what, it took Kris a little over 2 months for people to sing along to LLWD during his performances.
Clever job, Jive and Kris. You got a top 40 hit on two formats!

  31. Girlygirl *tap tap* are you there? I just wanted to say that I appreciate the hell out of you. Sending you some love for all of your wonderful Kris ninja skills.

  32. Triskel4

    Thanks!

Ingrid Michaelson is on now…Kris’ set is next after that. So probably 15-20 minutes from now (maybe little longer)

  35. Thee was a live feed, I put the link in like 3 threads on here.

He just finished his 7-song set. SET LIST

    Heartless/Gangsta’s Paradise
    Can’t Stay Away
    Is It Over
    Alright with Me
    Man in the Mirror
    The Christmas Song
    LLWD

    The crowd loved him

  36. girlygirl, thanks for the link. I found it on one of the other threads. Dang it, we need daily top-of-the-page threads for Kris!! (Dream on, I know.)

  37. I apologize if I said this before. But they have matching noses. lol

They make a super cute couple.

  38. I apologize if I said this before. But they have matching noses. lol

They make a super cute couple.

I totally agree!!! If Kris is not married, I will so totally ship them. They look ultra-super adorable together in photos and videos. Remember the LA Times videos where they took turns to interview each other? Thoses videos crack me up big times lol.

Anyway, even if they can’t be related romantically, they look like a cute pair of siblings. Actually, besides their noses, they also have huge puppy eyes, just that it’s not so obvious in this photo cos Kris’s eyes seem very tired.

  39. MJ hasn’t posted Kris’s Worcester performances yet. Anyway, if you guys want the MP3s of some of his performances (everything but LLWD and Heartless/GP mashup), I have them here for your enjoyment.

  40. Guys, Kris was awesome, I’ll write a little recap if there’s a thread up later.

  41. yay ross! Can’t wait to read it! Got any inside scoop on MJ after watching the concert with her? (kidding) I’m sure she is as awesome as we think she is. I’m also curious about the girl that went on before Kris because there was a lot of interesting tweets about her.

  42. Other sites are reporting that Kris will hosting the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 this Thursday morning.

  43. I’m thrilled that this is going to be the Billboard NYE party. I remember Fox’s last year and I was terribly disappointed. I wonder if they’ll have Kris in NYC and Allison in LV since those cities are closest to their family homes. I don’t really care, though. I’m just happy we’ll get to see them perform.

Living on the ‘left out’ coast is often annoying for live events. We get ‘live to tape’ even when the damn shows are produced here. It’s really annoying on NYE that the party is over before it even starts for us.

I was just at iTunes downloading some free CHristmas songs (got Archie, Darius Rucker, and Kat McPhee yesterday; Joe today) – I dropped by the Pop music page. Kris Allen’s album is featured in the ‘What’s HOT’ section on the bottom of the page. That was a very pleasant surprise.

I can’t wait for Ross and MJ’s reports on the Jingle Ball from last night.

  44. I am so glad to see Kris’ album listed on the What’s HOT section. I am not worried about Kris as much as I used to be. It seems like he is doing just fine right now and is taking the course he needs to take to get his music out there. Nice and steady.

  45. I put links to M3s and videos of Kris’ concert from last night in headlines thread.

  46. aeyelle, thank you for the mp3 links!!!!!!

ross, did anyone else get 7 songs in their set?

Thank you twigLA for this huge crumb!

I dropped by the Pop music page. Kris Allen’s album is featured in the ‘What’s HOT’ section on the bottom of the page. That was a very pleasant surprise.

I was hoping for a Kris headliner this morning and found depressing news instead. Poor girl. I hope we get videos from mj soon!

And THANKS to all the other peeps who provide such good links, photos, etc. of Kris!

  47. Kris and Allison will be performing in Las Vegas for the Fox NYE show, according to this tweet
