  1. Sounds like a Kelly Clarkson or Pink knock off. Her voice is pretty boring. And what is up with her hair? Sorry doesn’t do it for me :(.

  2. I doubt that anyone would want to look at this video more than once. No matter how much she tries to be sexy, everything about her is just so generic.

  3. Not as bad as I expected, but not that good, either. Her voice needs a lot of processing to sound okay, which it barely does. Girlfriend should go easier on the cosmetics — she’s much prettier without it.

  4. Generic popped into my head, too. But I like her and hope she does well.

  5. Tough crowd. I haven’t even watched the video and I want to defend the girl. :)

    Good luck Kim!

  6. I think her voice sounds fine, but the video is just…odd.

When Pink doubled herself for Sober, there was a good textual reason for it. In this video, I don’t get what the metaphor is supposed to be at all, so I’m just left with “Guy cheats on you? Clone yourself and change your orientation! Problem solved!”

  7. I think the video is okay. I am not sure I like the song. She does sound like Pink or Kelly.

  8. It sounds like she is trying to sing too low in parts. Kim was never one of my favorites but she’s okay.

  9. It is definitely a song, I could hear a guy group singing. It has a harder edge, and you have to give her props. This video does have the Pink vibe though.
There will be a lot of women, that can relate to this story line.
I would like to hear her sing this live, to see how strong her voice really is. That would be interesting.
This is radio friendly, and I could hear David Cook, Kelly, or Alison singing this, with their own stamp on it.
Kimberly is a rocker girl, with spice, and she is beautiful.
The video is just so so. The guy in it is a creep, and you better believe girls will relate to that.
Oh, and it sounds like she does sings better than Taylor Swift.

  10. there’s a reason I stay away from MJs…mostly the mean streak that seems to pervade discussions here…..this is a great song and the video is perfect for it. If you don’t get the meaning of being able to have faith in yourself to “rescue yourself” from a bad relationship…oh well. Par for the course.
Yeah, she does sound similar to Pink and Kelly. Who are both GREAT singers with an awesome sound. Go Kim.

  11. Personally I really like Kim Caldwell’s voice. It’s terrific in the low register and the scratchy quality has worked well for many artists from Kim Carnes to Allison Israhi. Also, I think she is beautiful and has great hair!

  12. If you don’t get the meaning of being able to have faith in yourself to “rescue yourself” from a bad relationship…oh well. Par for the course.

But it was not, in my view, effective at doing that. You have “rescuer KC” staring sadly at “damsel KC” without any sense of interplay or internal conflict. And then at the end, “damsel KC” stares back at cheating dbag not with considered self-confidence, but with a cheeky grin that says nothing more than “I’m going home to hook up with a hot version of me! Woo!” The tone is completely off for that reading.

I like KC just fine. I hope she succeeds. Doesn’t mean that I have to think this video helped her in that quest.

See, I don’t think it’s a mean streak to have folks not like the song and/or video. Some folks do, some folks don’t. The song and video are just ok for me, would be curious to hear other songs on her album. I have no beef with Kim, I think she’s gorgeous, and I hope she succeeds. I actually really love that low, scratchy voice of hers. (I’m one of those sane Cook fans who wasn’t angry at her for dating my teevee boyfriend, after all).

Wow! You must not spend much time on the Internet. Mjs is an island of pleasant in an ocean of ugly.

  15. I watched the video twice, I could imagine myself singing along to this on the radio (which I think is a great sign). I like the gruff in her voice and I was always on her side during her season run.
I hope the song does well for her. Congrats Kim, I’m sure this is a dream long in the making!
& thanx sfbb for your take, I thought of the Kim in the black mini as her conscience, just that little message that says “run, he’s no good for u!”

  16. I think Kim would be better fronting a band rather than being a solo act. Pink and Kellie were mentioned, this could have also been
Jordan, Allison, Orianthi, etc. Put her in front of a rock band like Ting Tings, I say she’s more noticable. She is a hard worker I’ve heard (I think Carly Smithson and Andrew Cook both said so ), so I wish her luck.

  17. OK I couldn’t edit my post! I wanted to change the ” rock band ”
    to ” rockish/ popish band”

  18. Absolutely nothing distinctive about this girl. Not then when she had her AI Moment and not now. Who keeps giving her the chance? Lucky girl.

Her voice is drowned out by the music. Deliberately, I dare say.
