Kesha Sues Dr. Luke – Charges Physical, Emotional, Sexual Abuse (Dr. Luke Countersues)

Wow. These are some pretty intense claims pop star, Kesha, is leveling at her former producer, Dr. Luke. She claims he physically, sexually and emotionally abused her and forced her to take drugs. If the allegations aren’t true or unprovable, expect Dr. Luke to come back at her with a counter-suit.

Kesha was sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused for 10 years by her producer, Dr. Luke, to the point where she nearly died.

According to a new lawsuit — obtained by TMZ — Kesha claims Dr. Luke was abusive towards her almost from the get-go — when she signed on with him at 18 — and made repeated sexual advances toward her. She claims he would force her to use drugs and alcohol to remove her defenses.

In one instance, Kesha claims he forced her to snort something before getting on a plane … and during the trip he forced himself on her while she was drugged.

On another occasion, Kesha claims after forcing her to drink with him, Dr. Luke gave her what he called “sober pills.” Kesha claims she woke up the following afternoon, naked in Dr. Luke’s bed, sore, sick … and with no memory of how she got there.

Kesha says the alleged abuse led to her eating disorder — a story TMZ broke earlier this year. She claims Dr. Luke said, among other things, “You are not that pretty, you are not that talented, you are just lucky to have me.” As we reported, she claims he called her “a fat f***ing refrigerator.”

Kesha also says there was physical abuse … once she says he attacked her at his Malibu house where he was “violently thrashing his arms at her.” She says she escaped and ran barefoot down PCH and hid in the mountains.

Kesha is asking a judge to let her out of her contract with Luke.

Kesha’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, tells TMZ … “This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for ten years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and an instance of sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke.”

Geragos adds, “The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain. Kesha is focused on moving her life and her career beyond this terrible time.”

UPDATE: And…just like I predicted. Dr. Luke has countersued, according to TMZ

But in Luke’s lawsuit … he says the pack of lies is being engineered by Kesha’s mother, Pebe and Kesha’s new management firm. Luke claims Kesha tried to extort him by threatening to spread lies about him to a blogger who started a “Free Kesha” website unless he released her from her recording contract.

And Luke says in his lawsuit he’s had a copy of a draft of Kesha’s new abuse lawsuit for months, and she was threatening to file it if he didn’t release her. In other words, he’s alleging more extortion.

Luke’s lawyer, Christine Lepera, tells TMZ, Kesha’s lawsuit about abuse is part of “a campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements,” calling the allegations scurrilous.

Lepera says Kesha and her mom have already admitted the statements are false.

  1. Ruh Oh. This is going to get ugly fast. Dr. Luke’s been a bad boy (allegedly). What is the success rate of artist after they sue to get out of a contract?

  2. Why won’t Dr. Luke just let Kesha out of her contract? It seems to be of no benefit to anyone if she wants out so desperately. This lawsuit coming out after Simone Battle killed herself cannot be helpful. I know Simone has nothing to do with Kesha, but her group is signed to Luke’s label. Kesha’s lawyer plays hardball and he has no problem gettintg ugly if he has to. He will go looking for dirt to prove her claim. Just let her go if she does not want to work with you. This cannot be helpful to anyone.

  3. Well I hope her allegations false, but I’m thinking she might be kissing her career goodby. This is coming across as very unstable. I doubt it’s ever a good idea to get family members involved in an artists career.

  4. So, she’s suing just to get out of her contract? If true, she should be asking to press charges.

  5. Dr. Luke countersuing… never saw that one coming.

All of this is ugly and I don’t 100% believe either of them, but I do know that I haven’t thought very highly of Dr. Luke since early ’05 and if any of her claims against him are true, it just makes me sad.

  6. I don’t hope the allegations are false, that would make her a liar and I don’t think she is. It’s sad that this could be bad for her career but the abusers always seem to have defenders and get second chances in the industry. Just more misogyny at work.

  7. Luke seems sketchy seriously, I mean the dude has worked closely with ke$ha, Britney, and Simone Battle. Im very happy he never got the judging gig on Idol

  8. And Miley Cyrus. Yeah, it does seem strange that a lot of people he’s worked with get in the press in rather sordid ways.

  9. Sadly, her career is kind of dead in the water. The last two years have been pretty quiet on the music front, so it’s not like this is hot of the presses from recent success that she can fall back on, and even if she’s telling the truth it will be hard for her to get another contract.

  10. Plenty of artists are able to get out of contracts. It’s just not usually so dramatic. It only took Kelly Clarkson about five minutes to get out of her idol contract, for example. What I don’t understand is why he didn’t just settle. None of this had to be news.

  11. I thought Kelly was still attached to RCA and her recording contract. Different than her stint with 19R and 19 M, I believe. Am I wrong?

  12. I am a firm believer that, no matter the possible financial losses, anyone who is abused should speak the exact second it happens. Where was Keisha’s Mom when this was going on all those years ago…and why didn’t Keisha go to the authorities when it happened. I can see a child being “to afraid to tell”, but Keisha was an adult at the time.

  13. Don’t know if this story is true or not. But Kesha was 18 when she signed with him. Poor, living out of her car, and desperate for a career. Sometimes when someone deals with another of power they don’t always speak up immediately. It happens all the time. She is older now and more financially secure, so maybe she feels strong enough to speak now. Or maybe she reached her breaking point when she went into rehab.

  14. I believe Kelly got out of her management contract not the recording one with RCA. So maybe 19M, and not 19R?

  15. Part of her rehab had to include some intense psychological counseling. Quite often eating disorders are borne out of abuse.

  16. I have a tendency to believe her. There may be some embellishments, but her story has the ring of truth to me.

  17. Just because someone is an adult does not mean they don’t suffer mental trauma, emotional trauma that may preclude reporting. ive never been in that situation, so I would never presume to judge how someone else copes with abuse.

  18. Her claim may very well be completely valid, and more believable if a contract not involved. The verbal and bullying abuse might be true. I doubt he would let this go so far if the sexual violations have merit. She’s calling him a rapist, when I recall she was singing his praises not long ago. I’m concerned she could be manipulated by her mother and lawyers. Hope this has a good ending, but don’t see that happening now.

  19. Gosh…..listening to this really does make you go mmmm after reading the above headlines.

  20. Just saw Kesha’s lawyer on Nightline. This is getting ugly really fast. He was talking about a date rape drug supposedly slipped to Kesha. Then of course the stupid interviewer had to ask if Katy, Kelly Clarkson or others would come forward with allegations or support for Kesha. Her lawyer said well, they have not come with support for Dr. Luke. I think it is just terrible for the interviewer to bring these other ladies into this. They would not know what happened to Kesha just because it did not happen to them. Why oh why did Dr. Luke let it go this far?

  21. Scary story…I guess now we know how she got into the industry. Makes you wonder who else out there went through the same hardships to get a record deal and reach mainstream success…
