I asked her about the boot song. So far, the eliminated contestants, Kristen O’Connor and Emily, have had their own versions of Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” play as their “goodbye” videos roll.
Emily was able to confirm for me that EACH of the Top 13 finalists recorded their OWN version of “Breakaway” to play over their goodbye video. Yes, the guys too! And I was so sure their boot song would be a tune from a male alum…
“Breakaway,” written by Matthew Gerrard, Bridget Benenate and Avril Lavigne, was recorded by Kelly for the The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement soundtrack in 2004 and was released in July of that year. It peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
