Kelly Clarkson Set to Guest Star on ‘Nashville’ (UPDATED with VIDEO)

Kelly Clarkson watchers had noted her on the set of Nashville recently, so this isn’t news to folks who were paying attention. But now we have more details on the American Idol alum’s guest starring stint on the ABC musical drama.

“As you recall, one of the most popular songs of last season is a song that Gunnar and Scarlett wrote – ‘Fade Into You,’ showrunner Dee Johnson told TVLine. “And in fact, in real life, [Clarkson is] actually cutting that song.”

UPDATE: Check out video of Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen performing “Fade Into You,” which is written by Matt Jenkins, Shane McAnally, and Trevor Rosen, live at the Opry:

It’s a lovely, sensual ballad, and should bring out the warmth and soul of Kelly’s voice.

Previously, Kelly got to show her comedy chops in a role on the premiere of the Robin Williams CBS comedy, The Crazy Ones. And on last night’s Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale, she was featured in comedic skits alongside Ken Jeong and William Shatner. Ever since the disastrous 2002 film, When Justin Meets Kelly, the singer insisted she was no actress. It’s cool that she’s put that early failure behind her in order to stretch herself artistically.  So far, Kelly is proving to be a natural in front of the camera.

Kelly’s Nashville episode will air in January 2014.
