At the iHeartRadio music festival Saturday night (Sept 22), Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to the late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin by performing “Respect.”
“I was asked to do a tribute for Aretha Franklin and she is one of my all time favorites, ya’ll,” Kelly told the crowd at the at the T-Mobile Arena. “I ain’t sang this song since American Idol!”
Back in the summer of 2002, when Kelly was a mere 20 year old, she performed “Respect” during the semi-final rounds. She and eventual runner-up Justin Guarini both earned enough votes to move on to the live shows. She performs the song even better 16 years later.
