Kelly Clarkson Pays Tribute to Aretha Franklin with “Respect” (VIDEO)

At the iHeartRadio music festival Saturday night (Sept 22), Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to the late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin by performing “Respect.”

“I was asked to do a tribute for Aretha Franklin and she is one of my all time favorites, ya’ll,” Kelly told the crowd at the at the T-Mobile Arena. “I ain’t sang this song since American Idol!”

Back in the summer of 2002, when Kelly was a mere 20 year old, she performed “Respect” during the semi-final rounds. She and eventual runner-up Justin Guarini both earned enough votes to move on to the live shows. She performs the song even better 16 years later.
