Kelly Clarkson hosted yet another American Idol reunion on her afternoon talk show when former judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson zoomed in to promote their new FOX shows.

Check out these fun highlights

  • Would Paula and Randy ever return to American Idol? Randy said he’d only do it if Paula, Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest “were still there” and Kelly returned to the show to sing. So, in short. Nope. Randy teased, “We all need to go back, KC. C’mon man!” C’mon dawg. It’s over and you know it. Heh. Paula agreed that she’d only return to the show with the original crew.
  • Kelly noted that American Idol season 1 was novel, because at the time nobody involved with the show knew what would happen next. “It was just a different thing, that first season,” said Kelly. Randy calls that first season, “so authentic” because Kelly was only trying to be the best of who she really is.
  • Paula first met Randy at the tender age of 17. Back when she taught dance and cheerleading camps she used to give out concert tickets to competition winners. She and a bunch of cheerleaders attended a Journey concert. Randy served as the band’s bass player at the time.
  • Pop singer Michael Bolton used to babysit Paula and sing her lullabies. Randy met Paula AGAIN when he made a record with family friend Michael.
  • If Paula and Randy had a choice to quarantine with Simon or Ryan who would they choose? “Kelly Clarkson!” Randy answered. Randy Jackson, still obsequious! Paula, also not answering the question, would pick Randy or season 3 joke contestant, William Hung.
  • Randy invokes Kelly Clarkson while congratulating a contestant on Name That Tune. In a clip Randy, who is the house piano player, namechecks Kelly as someone who never gave up.
  • It’s amusing how FOX has been leaning on the success of a show they let go to ABC.
  • Paula thinks The Masked Dancer, where she serves as a judge, is harder than its sister show, The Masked Singer. “You have to really pay attention to the clues!” she says.
  • Both Randy and Paula are grateful to have jobs during the pandemic. Paula’s show, The Masked Dancer, and Randy’s series, Name That Tune, air on FOX Wednesday nights at 8 and 9 pm respectively. Paula and Randy are doing so much promo together, it’s like they star on the same show!
  • Randy is working on a new album with Journey.
