18 year old Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen was crowned Miss Vietnam 2014 over the weekend, in Phu Quoc Island in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang. But not before American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, took the stage to perform.
Kelly sang three of her big hits, including “Because of You ” and “Stronger.” But she also performed a song that isn’t often included in her set–the singer’s American Idol coronation single–“A Moment Like This.”
As dumb and cliched as the lyrics are, Kelly manages to add a layer of depth with her honest and heartfelt rendition. I can understand why the organizers asked her to sing the song. It’s a pageant-ready tune if there ever was one.
It’s an odd gig, a beauty pageant halfway around the world. It’s tough, considering all that travel with her baby, River Rose, still under a year old. But I’m sure the experience was unbelievable and so worth it. She arrived earlier last week with her family–including husband Brandon. I’m sure they had plenty of time to sightsee.
